Very disappointed with my experience at the Avis Ontario location. I originally booked and paid for a midsize SUV (Mazda CX-50 or similar), but the Covina location gave me a Mazda CX-5 instead. Not only is the CX-5 a smaller compact crossover and not a midsize SUV, but the vehicle also had an oil warning light on and a cracked windshield covered with clear tape. After calling Avis customer service, I was instructed to drive over 45 minutes to the Ontario location because they supposedly had the midsize SUV I had originally reserved. When I arrived and explained the situation, three front desk employees immediately insisted that the Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-50 were the exact same vehicle. They repeatedly dismissed what I was saying, spoke to me rudely, and made me feel embarrassed in front of other customers. Even after checking with a supervisor, they continued insisting the two vehicles were identical and refused to listen. I was eventually told my only option was to swap into another Mazda CX-5 because that was "all they had." However, when I drove into the return lot, I noticed a Mazda CX-50 sitting nearby. I asked lot attendant Ron whether the CX-5 and CX-50 were the same vehicle, and he immediately confirmed they were not. He explained that the CX-50 is larger and falls into the midsize SUV category, exactly as I had been trying to explain the entire time. After taking photos of both vehicles and bringing them back to the front desk, the employees quickly realized they were mistaken. Instead of acknowledging the error or apologizing, they quietly processed the swap and handed me the keys to the CX-50 I had originally paid for. The only reason this situation was resolved was because of Ron in the lot. He actually listened, understood the issue, and helped find a solution. Thank you, Ron, for providing the customer service that should have been offered from the beginning. The front desk staff could benefit from additional customer service and vehicle classification training.

Renting a car in Los Angeles, California... In November 2023, I had a car reservation for a really low price at Long Beach Airport (LGB). It was less than $300! However, Avis Car Rental at LGB closed promptly at 10pm. Our flight was delayed. By the time I walked over to the Car Rental Center after retrieving my luggage, Avis had closed. I was stranded! In a panic, I called Avis, and all they could do was transfer my reservation to a later date. Luckily, I knew that I was returning to Los Angeles for a concert on January 6, 2024, so I moved my car reservation from November to January. Fast forward to December 2023, the flight to Long Beach was sold out. I couldn't get a seat on the plane! I changed my flight to Ontario International Airport (ONT), which Avis also serves. Everything at ONT went well. I found the free shuttle that stops at Terminal 2, Terminal 4, parking lot 6, and the Rental Car Facility. The gentleman at the Avis counter was efficient and polite. There was just one customer ahead of me, and they were done in a few minutes. I was surprised that I received no paper contract. I walked to the designated parking stall, found the key fob in the car's cup holder, and drove off to the exit. I just showed my driver's license! Returning the car was alright. I drove slowly and missed the entrance for Avis on the first pass. The arrow is pointed upwards instead of to the left. LOL! I found it on the 2nd try. Whew! I will search for the lowest priced Rental Car again for my next visit in May 2024, using Auto Slash (Dan O.'s method) and maybe I will see that Avis has the best rate again. In the meantime, I should sign-up and become an Avis Preferred Member!

As a preferred member I was helped fairly quickly when I stood in line . I was here to pick up my car and didn't see the notice that my car was ready in the app and when I walked to the kiosk board just to see if it was posted there , it didn't . At the in person help desk was brisk and friendly personal . I had an issue with the car at pick up , the car had a smell of cigarettes odor. I took the car home anyway and figured the smell should disappear with the windows rolled down and odor spray over night . During our drive the cigarettes still lingers. My headaches were getting worse. I called the customer service while on the road and was eventually transferred to Kadesha, she was professional and helpful in finding our nearest Avis rental at our next destination city . At the new rental location fresno ca airport , the process was effortless and quick . Thank you Avis and their employees for making the transition and our rental experience hassle free .

There's no one answering the phones. There's no direct line. I finally got a live representative and the number they told me to call is no longer in service. Avis gave me and my family a vehicle that is dirty, has food smeared inside, smells like cigarettes and is causing the children to have breathing problems and creating a very unpleasant and nauseating ride for all of us. Turo would have answered our calls and equipped the vehicle with a care kit that would improve the quality of the air if needed. #Takeyourbusinesselsewhere

Okay, I use Avis most of the time for my work, and I don't have a problem with the rental cars. My problem with this location was today, that the signage was confusing. There were two lines but, not signs where located by one line. So we assumed that Avis & Budget work together like I have experienced in other locations--St. Louis for example. A costumer in front of me taught so to, but when he walked to the counter he was told it was the wrong one. Good thing I listened in to the conversation so I made my way quickly to the so called Avis line. The costumer ended up behind me in the line that only had gotten longer since we waited in the so called Budget line. To make a long story short. The Avis line was still long and the Budget line was no more. To our surprise the Budget people started to call people in the Avis line and help them. WHAT?! Very confusing, and unprofessional. I was helped by Avis but the customer who was told by Budget he was in the wrong line....you guest it, was helped by Budget. Common Man!

We were able to skip the line and get right into our vehicle which was a Waggoner. However, within 2 miles of driving the Waggoner off the lot, we began to experience problems. As we drove down the highway and made full stops at red lights, the car would idle and completely turn off. It was very scary and we were almost rear ended twice. We knew that we could not drive up the mountain to Big Bear in this vehicle, so we decided to pull over into a parking lot and call Enterprise. This was when customer service became very poor. To explain, I called their hotline, and the woman who answered said she would have the Ontario Enterprise call us from their store right away. This NEVER happened. Since we did not feel safe driving the vehicle, I called another number provided on the Enterprise website that was supposedly linked directly to the Enterprise Ontario website. Once I connected with someone the woman on the line directed a tow truck to come jump the car. I informed her that what we really needed was the tow truck to tow the vehicle back to Ontario Airport and that we would need another vehicle. This person on the phone was not understanding this. She kept saying that the jump was on the way. I asked her how were we supposed to get back to Ontario airport and she could not explain. After being put on hold, I decided that we would drive the car back ourselves and risk being rear ended and potentially getting in an accident. The woman on the phone said okay. As we drove back, luckily we made it back to Enterprise unscathed, however, the car did shut off again 2 more times, and I put on the hazard lights for other cars to avoid us. Once we got back to Ontario, the Ontario staff was very helpful. When I asked them about the customer service hotline, they said that they do not even have a phone that is linked to their site. Furthermore, we were charged for a tow truck service, but I explained to the on site staff that we refused this service. Luckily, this was taken off our bill. This whole ordeal costs us an additional 2 hours of time when we were trying to get up the mountain to Big Bear. It was extremely frustrating. As you travel, no one wants to be stuck on the side of the road, and Enterprise is not helpful with their communication system. Our reservation was 71822394. I would appreciate to be contacted by Enterprise about this experience. *Please see comment below from Enterprise. If you actually read my review, you would see that I went through circles to get help on your hotline phone system. I would like to be contacted directly.

She offered some extra services but didn't push for them. One thing she didn't explain was how to return the car when the office is closed. She also didn't tell me that we needed to keep the slip she gave us - it was needed at the return. Return itself was easy. There was an attendant at the parking who was helping with the return and taking pictures of a returned car. Car was in a good condition, full tank, running smoothly. Front windows were very dirty. There was not a positive regard or focus on customer service for people in line. The gentleman who may have been the manager was more focused on straightening (to his liking) the stantions with the retractable ropes instead of focusing on customers and taking the line down. I actually rented my car through Priceline and wanted to potentially extend the rental beyond the return day. I wanted to know a price. The man refused to let me know what the cost would be stating it would only be potentially up to 3 times the amount I originally had rented it for because I went through a third party and if I wanted to extend the rental for a week, an amount could not be given to me. In questioning how this would even make any sense, he stood by the idea he could not give me a dollar amount because I went third party. So basically, as a customer, you need to just say yes and they can charge you pretty much an amount without your consent which makes no sense, is highly illegal under CA law.

My husband immediately went to the Alamo Ontario location the next day, around 8:00 a.m., and the staff told him the wallet was not there. I then filed a lost item claim online around 8:15 a.m. Strangely, at 3:30 p.m., we suddenly received a call saying the wallet had been "found." This entire experience felt dishonest and extremely unprofessional. Trying to contact the Ontario office was nearly impossible, and there is no direct corporate number to properly escalate concerns. The lack of accountability is unacceptable. Now I have to take time off work and return in person just to file a complaint. Horrible customer service from start to finish. I will NEVER rent from this location again, and I strongly suggest others avoid it as well. Alamo needs to hire employees with integrity and create a system where customers can actually hold locations accountable when issues happen. I am extremely disappointed. I will not return to this location!

And frankly, are just extremely very, very awful employees. I rented via expedia and paid ahead for a standard suv. When I arrived the worker, Leticia, told me it would be a Volkswagen Jetta. What? She looked at me like I did not understand her. I told her I paid for a standard suv. Then she said oh it's a dodge hornet, which I looked up and saw it's a compact Suv. So I told her that doesn't sound right, I asked her questions about what their categories include and she said categories between expedia and fox are different but failed to provide a policy or image where we can see what the definitions were and sad "it's just what I am telling you it is." Wow. So then she ended up telling me it would be a Rav 4 which to my understanding is a mid-size suv. So I settled for it because honestly we were on our way to a funeral and just wanted to get our car and leave. I told her I wanted to add 3 drivers since it's a long drive and wanted additional driving help. She told me it would be 13 dollars per person per day (we had a 8 day rental). I told her that I had researched and according to California State Law (Assembly Bill 901), car rental companies are legally required to waive additional driver fees for specific family, business, and legal relations. This includes spouse, parents, siblings, etc. She said no different. I told her it's state law and she kept saying no so I asked for a manager because I told her all my questions I'm asking you dont know or telling me no. She said she would call the manager and I had to wait for her to call back asked me to step to the side. I spoke to the manager she said I rented a 5 person suv and that a rav4 was for 5 people. I told her my understanding is that is a mid-size and I paid for standard for more comfort for a long trip, she didn't care. I gave the phone back to Leticia and when it was my turn rolled her eyes and did a "whatchu waiting for gesture" with her arms and hands up to hurry up. I asked her why she was being rude and giving me attitude and I she said because I gave her attitude first. I told her that was not true, she knows that, and that I was simply asking questions and she seemed to nit know the answers so she was getting upset. She processed to be rude and told me to give her all the drivers licenses. I told her during times like these we need to be grateful for our jobs and kind to all. She told me "you will not tell me how to behave! And I am NOT SERVING YOU!" I told her okay no problem, asked for her name and left. It's important we speak up when we are victimized for asking questions or being treated differently than other guests. The party prior and after me where White who were treated visibly better than I was. I am Hispanic. I felt this treatment was partly due to my racial background and her failure to take accountability for mistakes and not have the capacity to see faults and apologize. Nothing I said or did was rude and I know they have cameras to see that. I am extremely disappointed and after renting there many times ( and having bad experiences) I will not be coming back, neither will my friends or family, and anyone who reads this, because that this in, and go somewhere else. This company does not have the right to not follow state law, or behave differently than the rest. I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE ANYONE FEOM RENTING HERE. PLEASE RENT ELSEWHERE.
