I needed a car rental last minute this evening for a few days. I booked through Priceline and they had the best price and I was able to pick up in just a couple hours. This was very convenient! I booked a vehicle equivalent to a Corolla and when I got there they wanted to give me a Mustang. I told her that's not an economical vehicle and I have a child in a booster seat. The lady at the counter offered be a Buick GX and said it was a small SUV. Not is it small. My son has a wheelchair stroller and it doesn't fit in the back. The service was great. The price was competitive. The car was clean. It was dark outside when I picked it up so I made a video walk through of the vehicle. The process went smooth. Compared with other companies, Thrifty had the best rate and only involved one shuttle to the rental car facility. (Read carefully if two shuttles are needed.) When I got to Ontario International Airport, I walked outside, crossed the street, and went to the curb where the shuttle stopped. The ride to the rental car facility seemed like it took just a few minutes. Thrifty shares the building with other companies. There was just one customer in front of me, and Avi at the desk was efficient. He was quite conversational and pleasant. However, when I got to the assigned stall, it was empty. I dragged my suitcase and backpack across the lot to make sure that I was at the correct lot before I went back inside the facility. Luckily, Avi was still there. I told him that there was no car in stall #76. He apologized and found me another car. I told him that it was kinda dark outside at 11 p.m., and the dry summer heat in July wasn't helping. Update to my previous review about Thrifty Car Rental located at Ontario Airport. When we picked up the car after spending the night in the Ontario airport, the manager said he would credit us a full tank of gas and to return it empty. He noted this on the contract. I returned it with a few gallons left and was charged $79 for missing 7 gallons of gas!!! I am still waiting for a call back from their billing department to credit the error. Poor, poor customer support and very difficult to understand their strong overseas accent over the phone. read more

I wish I had read reviews before booking. I booked through my airline as part of a package, so without realizing it, the reservation was put in my husband's name. Just as we were leaving for the airport, we got the confirmation text on my husband's phone, realizing the error. In the car to the airport, I called the Thrifty location we were headed to. I explained to the agent that I only needed to change the name on the reservation from his name to mine. I had to do that a couple of times. He wasn't sure how to do that, so he put me on hold for 20 minutes to go ask someone. He came back on the line to fix it. He kept saying that he got the name changed to my name and everything was set. I kept repeating, I'm all set. My reservation is ready in my name. He confirmed. When I got to Thrifty that night, the counter agent said my reservation was cancelled and asked if I wanted a walk-up price. I calmly explained that I did not; their agent did, and I still needed my vehicle. The agent radioed for the manager. The manager mumbled something back. The agent basically said he didn't have any cars available (it was late). I said to get the manager back. The manager came and said, "I understand you cancelled your reservation." I stopped him there and said, "No. Your company did." I went into the whole story again. The manager told the agent how to change the computer to give me the price I originally paid (instead of the walk-in rate), told him to find a car, then walked away. The agent clicked away for a long time. He finally found a car, but it was not in the class that I had reserved. But it was late, I was travel-tired, and wanted to get going. However, when my son and I got out to the parking lot, the car wasn't there. By the time we went from the counter, to the lot, someone had taken it. We went back inside, for the whole process again. The counter agent finally found use a minivan. A very upgraded minivan. So, not only did Thrifty's agent cancel my reservation, the manager didn't stick around to make sure the customer was taken care of, he didn't stick around to help his newer employee learn how to handle this situation (he had to radio the manager with questions often), but he also had a similar/better vehicle he could have automatically put me in and resolved this whole sitaution immediately. I emailed Thrifty corporate the next day with no response. When I got the automatic email asking "how did we do?" I answered honestly and got a quick response from the location owner. When I emailed back the specifics, I have not heard back about that either. Again, I wish I had read the reviews. I will not use Thrifty ever again and will warn my friends and family away. read more

I rented a car on 8-4-24 There was only one person on the counter due to this I was not explained all of the charges. I opted to get their gas since it was only $4.22 however I was not explained I was buying a full tank and I only used 1/2 of tank I did a survey today and I just got an email from Ben saying sorry but nothing else. This place is one of the WORST places to rent a car. I was running late and went to pick up my vehicle about four hours after my pickup time. I had no idea that the midsize vehicle I had chosen would be rented out to someone else. I also had no idea how rude the lady helping me would be. As I would be driving out to Arizona for a company trip, I was looking forward to the drive ahead and came up to the counter and greeted her amicably. I provided my information, and she told me that the car was no longer available and that an Odyssey was all that was available. The next few minutes were a blur, but if this woman is in a place of leadership she deserves to be demoted. She was incredibly dismissive, unapologetic, and unwilling to rectify the situation. Needed a rental for a 2 week trip to Colorado for a softball tournament. I always book with Costco then thought I should try booking through my Marriott membership. It led me to thrifty rental. I had a standard suv booked through Costco for 2 weeks for about $1100. Right before my trip I found that it was cheaper through thrifty. I ended getting a way better deal half the price! I rented a midsize car for a few days for work. I arrived early Wednesday morning and found no line at the counter in Ontario and a helpful, friendly associate. I used my debit card (they will hold a $500 deposit for the duration of the rental plus the amount of the rental, just FYI). I returned to LAX for a late red-eye flight Friday evening around 11:55 p.m. I was able to catch a shuttle to my terminal very easily and quickly. They have a 24/7 shuttle. You have to check your receipt that is sent to your email. This employee wrote the figures in pen for me and my wife. I have previously reserved a vehicle for $20/day. We had got hit by a hit and run driver on Thanksgiving Night and our car was totaled. We relayed that story to the employee. She sympathized and after it was said and done we had three vehicles to choose from. I repeatedly ask if it was $20/day because we had limited funds on our credit card. Tell me why my rental agreement in my email was something completely different, $40/day. And we needed the vehicle for about a month. They must make commission because why would she screw us so bad. This company needs to be honest and tell customers that they are gonna pay more for things they offer and stop lying about what is going to be charged. After this review the operations manager email me, Victor Limon, Operation Manager. He literally said: "We sincerely apologize for our customer service, but unfortunately when our agents go over the EOC (Estimated of Charges) they are 100% transparent and disclose any additional charges by highlighting it on the EOC before processing the contract and charging the credit card." What.. you mean transparent in blue pen. This is the biggest "Your loss, not mine" I ever seen. No intention to correct the issue at all. Zero Stars for this business. read more

WHY THEY ARE SLOW: The agent has to call the garage for every car they dispense. So each rental takes 20 minutes to process at the counter since the agent has to go into an office, call the garage, check and see if they have your car and then tell them to bring it to the pickup area. You will spend 1-2 hours waiting in line because of this silly system. The other car rental companies do not operate this inefficiently because they manage their inventory electronically. Do NOT rent from Thrifty. Also, I arrived 4 hours after my scheduled time, and I still had to wait for them to clean my car. Going to the desk in the garage is not faster. No line when I arrived, Not too many cars left to choose from. To say i had a reservation they had no car for me, She offered me a Tesla. I always wanted to test drive one, yet the weekend was not just about me. Not enough room for four ladies with long legs and luggage. So the only options was to take the Kia Sportage. They were cheap and I guess I got what I paid for - I had an absolutely horrible experience renting from Thrifty. They lost my reservation when I came to pick up the car so it took a lot of extra time at the counter. The car I was given was crappy!!! I did not feel safe driving it and it was actually scary to drive in the rain. The steering wheel had a piece missing out of it. When I got to the car the headlights were left on, but I opted to keep the car because it started, and it was pouring down rain and it was a long way back to the office. I no longer needed the rental and had a week left on my reservation. I sat on hold for 20 minutes to inquire if I could return it early and I was told that I would be charged additional money to turn it in early. Used to love Thrifty pre-pandemic. Thrifty is now a miserable experience to rent a car from. Extremely SLOW to process rentals now as well as poorly maintained cars. Flew into Palm Springs Airport on Dec 1, 2022. With only 1 customer being processed in front of me , I watched National and Alamo, which was empty when I first walked up, soon process 4 separate customers within 10 minutes while I continued to wait for the 1 customer in front of me to be processed. The check out process took 20+ minutes with just 1 person in front of me. Yikes! The next day, my Thrifty rental car broke down (2nd Thrifty rental breakdown last two recent trip to Palm Springs). Same slow and lumbering process to return and exchange for another rental as already described...well worse, because Thrifty required handwritten entry of their vehicle incident report by me, the customer which asked numerous personal information questions which should have already been in their computer system for my rental. Note: the lone Thrifty employee at the desk each of my two visits this trip was courteous, professional and apologetic. Wake-up Thrifty and move in the 21st century with faster, more streamlined computer and car rental processing system and hire a better management team. read more

Using this company because I am on a budget and my van needed to be serviced on a weekend I had to travel to San Diego. I booked the vehicle a week in advance for an 11:30am pick up. I did the "express check in" to "skip the line" via their website where I provided my driver license and CC info ahead of time. At 11am day of reservation I received a text to "choose my vehicle" when I proceeded to the link I was informed there were no cars available and I was "checked in early" the website was supposed to automatically refresh every 15 minutes however if you navigate away from the page the time resets. It has now been 2 hours passed my reservation and the website still says there are no cars available. I have attempted to call the office and there is no option to speak to anyone, and the automated number hangs up on the customer. I am now headed to the location and am prepared to be confronted with incompetence and rude customer service agents as now I HAVE to leave in enough time to get to San Diego for my medical appointment. Beware...they will charge your credit card with additional fees and no documentation to back the charges. They charged me an additional $54.96 over the contracted, written price. No explanation what this charge was for. Also, when I picked up the car, I asked the young lady at the Thrifty rental counter at the Vienna airport whether I have to purchase a Vignette for the car. She said "no" that the car had a digital one in the car. NOT so, I received an additional charge of $167.10 for a "digital ticket" for not having one. Very unprofessional. read more

I loved my experience with Thrifty. I booked a 7 person passenger van rental with Thrifty through my local AAA travel consultant. He hooked us UP price wise. We flew into Seattle and I can't say I enjoyed the experience of shlepping our large amount of luggage (5 people not used to PNW wet/cold/windy Fall season on a 15 day road trip from Seattle, across Washington State through Southern Oregon, and back down the coast of California into Riverside County CA equals several pirces of BIG luggage) onto a shuttle outside the SeaTac baggage claim area and then standing in a REALLY long line at the rental counter. But once we made it to the counter the rental agent was a sweet, helpful, cheery and informed ray of sunshine. Only issue we had was we discovered quite quickly that the windshield wipers were SHOT and the inside of thecwindshield was caked with a oily substance thay would not be removed with a cloth and lots of pressure.... in Seattle rain...i mean... come on. A "Cyclonic Boom" of a storm was forecast so...um... what exactly is on the checklist of examining before renting to the next party? That was a a HUGE mistake on the part of Thrifty "offsite" SeaTac Int'l Airport. HUGE. But I am not even gonna ding them as we got a phenomenal price and just LOVED that counter rental agent. We stopped at an auto parts store and had the attendant change them out for us. Next we bought some heavy duty window cleaner that supposed to even remove TAR and we used newspaper to try and mitigate the smearing... ummm.... nope. We continued to attempt to clear up the swirly, unsafe windshield the ENTIRE trip. There was also a lot of chips, pretzels, bits of trash, under the seats in the rear that made me feel this was not as sanitized or scrutinized at all. FAIL on cleanlinliness. You guys are getting this 5 star rating solely based on the excellent counter customer service in Seattle and the great price negotiated by AAA. We even washed and vacuumed the can before returning it cuz we had made a mess with leaves and dirt from the rain we experience for many days. Upon returning the vehicle to Ontario Airport Car Rental we were going to speak to a counter agent regarding the issue w the wiper blades and being reimbursed for the wiper blades and window cleaning products, but that line was super long too so... fuggit about it. Rented a car designated as a Manager's Special which guarantees a Compact Car or better. My rental period was for 11 days as I was going to travel up north about 600 miles. When I arrived I was told that I had an option of 2 vehicles; an electric car which had a range less than 200 miles a charge or a Dodge 2500 which they said gets 10 miles to the gallon. I told them that neither of the cars would work for me based on my driving area and distance this trip. They said this was the only two available and that they choose the cars based on the amount of the type of vehicles on the lot (the more there are the more the likelyhood of getting that vehicle). They offered me an upgrade at an increased cost of about two C notes for a Nissan Sentra. A Nissan Sentra is a COMPACT CAR!!! They said it was not part of the Manager's Special. They eventually offered me a Discount on the Manager's Specials Discount Discount. That is exactly what he said. So I was getting a Discount on a Discount on a Discount. Drove away in a Buick Encore for one C note extra charge. When I went on the lot to the vehicle I noticed that there was only one electric vehicle on the lot and only one Dodge 2500. When we got up to the counter we were greeted by Amanda and she was kind from the start. After having a horrific experience at Alamo on Saturday 6/12, thrifty saved the day. I rented a car for 6/12-6/28 for a road trip. Last minute I went over to thrifty since Alamo was awful.. I was helped by a super friendly lady who was super kind, and did what she could to help me out last minute. I ended up with a Nissan Pathfinder, the car was clean l, really nice and worked out great. Thrifty is where I'll rent from again in Ontario! read more

When they are actually selling you a full tank of gas for a car rental that is less than a day. There is not actual number to talk to someone and the line actually has an option about this fuel scam. And when you contact the company online, the email you the full agreement that was actually not given to you at the time of purchase. read more
