Great customer service. I often come here to pick up a vehicle for work. Always well taken cared of and usually less than 30 mins of waiting if even. They are understaffed with 3 people working including the owner. All the low ratings are from the KARENS who's never worked a single customer service job in their life. The worst place to deal with. Three holds on my card + a charge, and the car they rented me smelled like cigarettes. Worst part is the EV doesn't charge and left me stranded. I had to make the arrangements to have it towed because they wont, take an Uber to get to work on time, and then was told they wouldn't rent me another vehicle until they had this one back in inventory. My response was oh no! Why didn't you get U-Haul. I was being somewhat sarcastic but I have always rented from U-Haul no issues. Wow was I right!!! Budget/Avis was the worst experience I've ever had with any company. The guy at the budget counter had a long beard. If you get him get ready for anything wrong being deflected and blamed on you as the customer. He told my girlfriend sorry we don't have the truck you reserved. That sucked but then he said we have a truck with a lift gate (when moving that sucks!) luckily I know how to use a lift gate. He then said the problem is you have to bring the truck back to us in Escondido. Our reservation was one way to drop in as a Diego. He said he would cover the miles but didn't offer to cover the extra gas. We asked and he said no. But it was double the trip. I left to get my ID. He proceeded to tell my girlfriend that she was being such and inconvenience and that he can just cancel her reservation. This would leave us with no truck to live on living day. In all my years I've never heard of that before. Customer service agent telling someone they are an inconvenience due to the company not having the correct order or equipment. CRAZY!! You can't make this shit up. We took the truck. My girlfriend spent 2 hours wheel we were driving and moving getting bounced from every department on the phone. Everyone telling her it was someone else's fault. Here's the kicker!! We did what they asked and returned the truck to Escondido. Their loss prevention department called her today and said they are charging her a no. Return fee because she returned the truck to Escondido. WTF!?? Never rent a moving truck from this place. Returned a car to this Escondido location that we had originally rented in Albuquerque NM. After lots of miscommunication with the Albuquerque location about return of this vehicle, we took it to the Escondido Avis and our issues were quickly and professionally taken care of by the Manager there, he is very knowledgeable, extremely helpful, courteous and very eager to help us get our issue resolved. In the end, he took care of us and went out of his way to handle our situation. We will definitely use this Avis in Escondido for our rental car needs in the future! Jack was downright hostile and totally stressed me out. I had reserved a Rav 4 as I'm most familiar with it and would be driving to the desert alone. He gave me a VW Tiguan. When I wasn't happy with it and explained why, he offered me another vehicle with a huge dent in bumper and a big frayed hole, the size of a tennis ball, in the carpet right where my foot would be to drive. When I told him in that case I'd rather have the Tiguan, he insisted it wasn't possible according to the contract. I asked if we could please make a new contract. He got very angry and threw the paperwork & keys onto the counter. Then he aggressively hopped in the rental and peeled out of the lot and parked it at the curb in the street, forcing me to walk off property to get in the vehicle! I drove the rental to the desert for wildlife photography only to find there was no windshield cleaner fluid, making it very difficult to see. The rental location looks dingy and has no hand soap nor paper towels in bathroom. I'm completely turned off. Next time I'll use Enterprise down the road! read more

I could not give this place a negative rating so I am doing a one. Horrible business, the owner is super rude with no customer service! I made a confirmation pick up at 1:30pm and he didn't have the car ready at 2:00pm, he asked me to come back in an hour so he can run and clean it. An hour later, the car was not ready, he did t have my paperwork ready, even thou he got all of my information and cards. He charged the card double the cost and when he tried to tell me that the car was ready, I went in the car and it's filthy, dirty and it smells like death! The seats are stained, sand everywhere and the car has big guts all over the front of the car. I tried to complain to the guy and he was going to take the car back and cancel my rental after I was left there with no ride and no other choice but to take this dirty ass smelly car from Avis which is not even the business name when I booked it online. This guy said he is the owner but I don't believe it because he is too stupid to be one! He acted like I was being picky about the dirty car. I asked him why the car was not clean since he made me come back, he said he didn't have to answer to me since he is the owner. He lied about going to clean the car and made me drive home and back an hour later, and the car was still dirty! He was acting like I would. It notice it and when I brought it up, he threw a fit and threatened to cancel my reservation. I will report this to Avis corporation and the other company that he is using just to grab business. I've rented from this location for over a decade. Michael is always 100% professional and he works his butt off. He's helped me so many times that I owe him at this point. Couple days ago this weird kooky hippy guy was in there screaming and Michael was professional and calm and didn't agitate the weirdo any further. The guy tried to make off with a car without having the ability to pay. They stopped him, though the creep threw the keys after a lot of screaming. I recorded the craziness on my iPhone. Guy was nuts. Michael came up to me and said I can just leave and he will take care of my return on his own. I appreciate that he didn't want me in the mess going on. Horrible! I am not a racist but I do not have the name of the white male, black hair, mid 30's (no name tage) this male was very condescending towards me on July 25th 2023. I had an issue with the app the night before, I thought that I could bring the phone to Avis tomorrow witch is today and have them help me. The employee there told me that I was incapable of operating technology even and I haven't even shown him what was the problem. DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS!!! They over charged my credit card almost $100!! I rented a car for only 1 day, but they charged me a 2-day rental fee for a toddler car seat and claim that I was late returning my car, so they charged me a 1-hr late fee of $48. How could they charge me two days for the car seat, when I only had the car for one day?? Sounds stupid to me. And, on top of that, the car was returned on-time, but there was a line in the lobby so by the time my husband got to the front counter to turn the keys in, it was 15 minutes after our return time. CROOKS!!!! Avis Escondido is not where you want to spend your money and rent a car. Their customer service and lack of communication is unprofessional and unacceptable. Also, the car wasn't even clean with we picked it up from the airport as we found empty water bottles and candy wrappers stuffed under the driver & passenger seats. UBER Drivers beware!!! I rented a vehicle from Mike at this location. Everything started off well. Mike spent most of the time bad-mouthing HERTZ and their UBER business model. He suggested they were screwing over drivers who rented from Hertz. In the long run, I had to make 3 visits to Avis to figure out why they charging me $688/wk for a Toyota Camry. Mike was not helpful and acted like I was inconveniencing him by asking for printouts and clarification around their charges. Their customer service number and Mike do not know what each other is doing. They both charged me at the same time and now I have to take legal action to recoup my money. It's our twins Quinceanera at the end of November. We prepaid a rental for pick up on Black Friday at noon. We arrived at 12:10. They told us that they close at noon today, and gave away our van we paid for to somebody else. They claim that the emails when we paid for everything state that they close early today. Mike got me in and out in less than five minutes but my car wasn't ready so his associate Justin grabbed my keys, vacuumed it and washed it in less than 10 minutes. I was on the road and ready for a fun weekend... Long story short, when I came back to return the car I was in and out in less than 15 minutes as their sever was down... no biggie. Justin was able to drop me off. Excellent service and great pricing, AVIS definitely tries harder. My first rent a car! I really didn't know what to expect. I had to plan a trip to Sacramento in 2 days and didn't want to take my gas guzzling truck which may fall apart at any moment on that long drive. Ended up getting a red jetta. Loved the car. It was good on gas and was comfortable on the long drive. The online reservation made it really easy to reserve a time to pick up the car. I really think the insurance is good just in case something may happen but they charge so many different types of insurance. I wish it would just be one package instead of saying you want 4 or 5 of the insurances they offer. The dude working was nice and all. He explained everything in detail. I came right at 9am on the days I picked up the car and dropped off the car. Ended up waiting 15 minutes the day I picked up the car. He had a sign up saying they are open but would be back in 10. Then when I dropped the car back we waited again for like 5 minutes.. When you open at 9 then I think you should at least get there before 9! The office just was out dated also. He had one of those printers where you have to tear off those sides with the holes in it... I forgot what those printers are called. I did get a parking ticket on my trip and I asked the guy what the process is. He just said to pay for it on your own because you won't want AVIS to charge an administrative fee. I rented a car at this location a week before and arrived on time to pick it up. After waiting in line for a while i was told no cars were available. The attendant said they were overbooked. He said maybe they would have a car in a couple of hours. I asked him why he didn't call us that morning so we didn't have to drive out there in heavy traffic? He replied that he didn't have time. This place is a scam. The people that work there are ok but I had nothing but trouble with the rental and received a bill more than a month later for damage that was already done to the car. The first car was filthy inside and a low tire, the second car smelled like cigarettes and body odor and also had a low tire. I just put air on the tire of the second one but not even half way through the trip the tire light comes on again. Now we have a low tire and can hear the air coming out. Bought fix a flat but that didn't help so we traded in the car. We were one of four cars that had a flat tire at the Palm Springs location. Seems like a common issue with Avis/budget. The person gave us a new car, refunded the fix a flat and said we wouldn't be charged any fees because it wasn't our fault and a preexisting issue. Guess that wasn't entirely true. Couple weeks later I get a notification that our rental is checked in...ummm I didn't rent anything. The car that I apparently checked in was a 4Runner, not the first, second or third car was a 4Runner or even a Toyota. Then I try to talk to customer service and they say they need all original paperwork...it's in your system. Just pay the extra and rent from a rental agency that won't cause such a headache or you can be like me and send frustrated emails and reviews. read more

I arrived at Avis and was told that they did not have a car for me and my contract was null and void because I was late picking up the car. They continued to lie and tell me they called me (no missed calls, no voicemail, no email...nothing) and someone spoke directly to me. I was also told I could wait until 4PM to see if someone returned the car (They wanted me to be on-call for a car I already reserved). Then as a dolve they offered me a car in Vista, but I had to drive there and it was more of a gas guzzler, but don't worry they won't charge me extra (eye roll). I was hopeful when I decided to rent from here for our move. With all of the Covid craziness I thought this was covered since I had booked the truck and towed auto insurance several months in advance. I got confirmation emails up to Tuesday before our reservation date (Friday). Then, Friday morning, we go to pick up the truck and dolly and it isn't there. It's not only not there it's over an hour away. Fine, we can come back in an hour, just give us a call. Well, 3 hours later, we get a call to come get the truck. Go in. Still no truck and dolly. Another hour later we finally getting the truck and load it up. And the right tail light on the dolly doesn't work. Maybe it's hooked up wrong? Nope, just broken. Great. The next day we start our trip with the little car we are towing all secured with the straps on the wheels, pins in place to hold the straps in place, but still the broken tail light. Less than one hour in, our car comes loose and crashes into an industrial trailer on a big rig. Thankfully no one is hurt. But our car is totaled. Come to find out that the guy who finally gave us the truck and dolly REMOVED the auto tow insurance I had signed up for and didn't tell us. Now we are down a car and trying to figure out a peaceful outcome. Budget essentially set us up for failure from the get go by removing our insurance. I'm hopeful that we'll be able to resolve the situation. But I will never use Budget again. read more

This place deserves negative reviews..not only was the car filthy when we picked it up, but they had told us when we were dropping it off that there was a small amount of animal hair..We made it clear that no animals had been in the car but they didn't care. They then proceeded to tell us we had two options one was to pay $150.00, or to take it back home and vacuum the car(basically do their cleaning responsibilities for them). There were 4 workers 13 guest in line and one guy assisting all of us. 45 minutes later (even if you have a pick up reservation). As I wait for my vehicle, 20 additional minutes later, there are 3 guests in line and at this time all 3 associates who were here jump in to assist the guests... don't forget my appointment was at 10am and it is now 11:30 am and I arrived at 9:30am.
