This is an update from my rental on 1/12/22 - 1/17/22. I needed to rent an SUV to move my son back to college. First off, the attendant that I dealt with was very patient with me {though he wasn't wearing a mask while on duty}. I am like the Princess and the Pea when it comes to car rentals. He wasn't the problem, but the cars were a problem. Since 2020, the quality of the car care has gone downhill. I noticed this at the airport and at my local Avis. I don't think they really clean it because it's one person manning the front desk and cleaning cars in between. We have washed the car before we left and clean it out before we return it. Plus, the staff does not fill the cars up with gas if they are returned empty. It's assumed it's the customer's responsibility. I noticed even if the cars are "filled" up, by the time I leave the lot, it's below the "F" line. I went through several cars before I could settle on the one. One of the cars I almost settled with was a Buick. I had the keys and noticed there's a lot of debris on the windshield, so when I went to use my wipers, the right wiper was broken, so I had to get another car. I finally settled on a 4Runner. The inside was fairly clean (until I was cleaning it on the last day and found some garbage from the previous renter), but the major problem was the tank was on empty! The range was 65 miles. I end up taking this car after being told I do not have to fill it when I bring it back. When we filled it up, it cost $78.50 which is like paying for an extra day or two for me. While we were on our trip, the Change Oil reminder lit up as well. At least the wiper blades worked because on the way back we had a little rain. When I returned it right at 11am. One of the employees almost took me out when I was parking the car. But I almost got very upset when he questioned why I didn't fill it. I told him I'm giving it back the way you gave it to me. Oh wait, I doubled the range and gave the car back at 120 miles. Unfortunately, I have to use Avis for car rentals for business for expense purposes, so I will be back. I'll most likely end up filling up the car more than when I received it, as well as cleaning it out before I return it. read more

Check the fuel when you pick up the car!! 3 times I've picked up a car stating the fuel was full and it was less than half. I had to call Avis the first couple times, now I check every time. They've never picked up the phone and the car is almost always dirty! Convenient, but terrible experiences at this location!! read more

This complaint is against the manager and his Staff at 2551 San Ramon Valley Blvd Ste 106, San Ramon, CA 94583. I cancelled the reservation after the manager told me he had the right to not serve me.This was the confirmation number 43837716US6 On Wednesday April 10, 2024, at 4:05pm I entered Avis Rental Car Office and approach the desk and greeted the agent hello my name is Sheila and I have a reservation. "I stated Hi how are you?" and she responded fine thank you. The agent asked for my Debit or credit card, and I provided it to her. I assume she was in training, or this was being done on purpose because they did not want to serve me. I am describing the one agent at the desk from India and the Mexican female was training her at the end of the desk. I asked her what car was available "a SUV" she said I don't remember the name of the SUV but do remember letting her know I did not want a big SUV she said it's not a big SUV. Then asked please don't charge my card until I see what the SUV looks like. If it's dirty I will ask for a discount of $100. I was given the key then walked over to the SUV; the SUV was nice, but the exterior and interior was dirty. The seats were not clean, it was just filthy. Walked back over to the office and told the agent the SUV was dirty, and I needed a cleaner SUV, how about the blue KIA? The Mexican female agent (just describing her only) said it was an electric car and it doesn't charge. I didn't want an electric car anyway even though the Mexican Female Agent kept asking me after repeatedly told her no. She also kept picking in her nose which was discussing. I had to wash my keys, this is inappropriate and unsanitary in a public business. Also, she kept looking at my card for at least a minute I asked her don't look at my card. I am 67 years old how do I know she is trying to take my card number. I was then given another key to look at the chevy. I walked over to the chevy. I liked the car but the exterior and interior were dirty, not clean. Walked backed to the office and I said this SUV is dirty and no clean either and before I can say anything else the Manger walked out of his office pointing his finger in my face bullying and yelling at me in front of his staff and a customer "no more discounts, no more that's fraud". And no more complaints. I said that is not fraud customer service requested those pictures before they would even issue me a discount. I then said do you want to see the pictures? I have them on my phone. After that he said I was being rude to his staff and he said this girl name couldn't make it out, it was a name from India he said she left because of me. No, she didn't leave because she left because she couldn't give me dirty filthy cars/SUVS or maybe she wasn't being paid appropriately. It does not have anything to do with me. I have been renting for year all sudden she left because of me. The manager then accused me of call this girl a racist. I told him that is not true. Did you read my prior complaints? They are on file along with the pictures I sent customer service. The girl called me a racist. The accused me treating his staff with disrespect when it was the other way around, he said it was on camera I asked can I see the pictures from the camara? He didn't know what to say then because he could not produce them. Again, I rented for a year he could have told me about this, and he didn't. I believe the two females' agent one of Indian descent or from India was discriminating against me and told the manager lies or they were not dishonest, and he believed him. He told me he was recording me; I don't think he should be recording me without my consent it could be a felony. He told me I have the right to not serve you. I told him I have the right to have a clean car and it's your responsibility to clean the car/SUV prior to the customer arrival. I have a right to make a complaint, "The Manager stated I told you we don't have water here to clean the cars." I said there is a self-service carwash down the street from your office. The manager said are you going to complaint again "I had to say no in order to rent the car." This is manipulation. I said the SUV is dirty. He snatched the keys from me and threw my cards back at me and told me to rent your car somewhere else. I plead and plead with the manager I need this car; I must go to work tomorrow I have a reservation. Please, please. He said no, he did not care. I told him I will let the corporate office know about your unprofessionalism, I was a good customer. I rented an estimated $10,000 for that year and brought the car/SUV back cleaner than they gave it to me. And this is the way the Manager treated me. This incident occurred due to the following: 1. When the two female agents went to the manager informed him, I was being rude to them when I was not. 2. When I mentioned if the car is not clean, I will ask for a discount of $100. read more

My husband and I have been coming for almost a year and renting 7days a week..we walk in to get our car and a lady by the name of ELLIE was there and we asked were is Karen?she then told us no longer working here.. She had given us trouble in the past for No Reason and she refused to rent us a car with the worst customer service we had EVER EXPERIENCED.Ellie is Rude and simply UNPROFESSIONAL how she can be behind a counter serving the PUBLIC is beyond comprehension. NO ONE DESERVES THIS KIND OF TREATMENT,I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE GOING TO ELLIE SAD THAT ANYONE HAD TO EXPERIENCE THIS BEHAVIOR!!!!!!!!!!! read more

The car was filthy, and I had to walk a long way to pick it up. They did not drive it to me.

I went to pick up the car. Waited 30 min for someone to just help me. Once he finally come he told me they don't have cars. He said he tried to call me many times but phone just rang. The lady behind me ask why she didn't get a call they don't have cars. After I told him I never got a call or email. This guy was rude and not helpful. I asked for his managers name, he told me no. He said they should get cars sometime in the day but had no clue when. He said he's not call to find out when either. I highly discouraged using San Ramon Avis! read more

*** Renters Beware *** Location appears to have created an alternative source of revenue. Just like a previous review, I was charged $25 for "cleaning pet hair" when there were no pets in the car. I rented the car from SFO @ 3am due to flight delays and it was at St-Ramon Avis parking lot @ 10am. I contacted Avis corporate office who told me to resolve this myself with the franchisee. I rent cars for work every week as I travel for business and never have any issues with Avis. This location is simply poorly managed and wished Avis held their franchisee to the same standards. read more

I have successfully rented here many times, so its unfortunate their rude response to a simple mistake causes this negative review. I rented a car from SFO to San Ramon, put luggage in and luggage out, had the car for about 1/2 day and expected normal one day charge plus tax, fees, etc. Later I found an extra $75 had been charged for "cleaning of pet hair". I explained I never put a pet in the car, had only driven from SFO to home and then to their office. I had not noticed any pet hair, so it was probably the wrong car, but if there was any it would have been how I got it from SFO. One does not "forget" whether one had a pet in the car. I assumed it was a simple mistake and opened a claim through my Avis Preferred call center who said the local office would respond in 3 days. When they did not respond I called them and spoke to Bethany who said she would have the person that cleaned the car call me back. Six days later I called again, spoke to Rebecca who said, "I don't know nothing about it but you have to have all claims in 24 hours." When I asked for the manager, she advised "John" was the manager but she could not give out his phone number or tell me when he would be in the office. I have protested the charge via my credit card company. Avis Preferred member since they started the program and it's sad when a simple mistake is so badly handled by these locals. read more

Ally and Melina are the best. I was renting from this place for a full year and they have been very nice and helpful. I enjoyed dealing with them and they always tried their best to help. I wish all Avis locations are like them. read more
