I chose this Avis/Budget simply because its the closest to my home. I booked the rental online, and when I arrived onsite the next day, the car was ready. The Jeep Compass was remarkable new with only 11,000+ miles on it, still with new-car smell, and gas tank was full. On 2-10-2026, I returned it with full gas tank, no damage, and no dirt that a 10-second vacuuming of the driver's floormat couldn't clean. Since I'd heard horror stories of rental agencies adding extra fees for damage, dirt, or less-than-full tank, I was a bit apprehensive that I might get billed extra and thus have to start a grievance process. But nope, the final billing turned out to be exactly what was stated from the start. So I have nothing bad to say about this Avis outlet. They treated me well!

We walked out and the car is covered in big scratches, multiple dents, plastic trim falling off, etc. Went back inside and told her at which point she offered to come out and gave me a receipt marked with all the places the car was damaged. Third red flag - drive off and the alignment is absolute trash, car is pulling hard to the left. Make a U-turn and go back. No apologies, nothing. Decided to pull the plug, return the keys and go to our normal rental place in Pleasanton. Gal tells me she will have the manager cancel it and I will not be charged. She said I would receive a call within a hour to confirm. SHOCKER, never got a call and to top it off I have TWO $536 pending charges on my Visa. DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION.

First off, the attendant that I dealt with was very patient with me {though he wasn't wearing a mask while on duty}. I am like the Princess and the Pea when it comes to car rentals. He wasn't the problem, but the cars were a problem. Since 2020, the quality of the car care has gone downhill. I noticed this at the airport and at my local Avis. I don't think they really clean it because it's one person manning the front desk and cleaning cars in between. We have washed the car before we left and clean it out before we return it. Plus, the staff does not fill the cars up with gas if they are returned empty. It's assumed it's the customer's responsibility. I noticed even if the cars are "filled" up, by the time I leave the lot, it's below the "F" line. I went through several cars before I could settle on the one. One of the cars I almost settled with was a Buick. I had the keys and noticed there's a lot of debris on the windshield, so when I went to use my wipers, the right wiper was broken, so I had to get another car. I finally settled on a 4Runner. The inside was fairly clean (until I was cleaning it on the last day and found some garbage from the previous renter), but the major problem was the tank was on empty! The range was 65 miles. I end up taking this car after being told I do not have to fill it when I bring it back. When we filled it up, it cost $78.50 which is like paying for an extra day or two for me. While we were on our trip, the Change Oil reminder lit up as well. At least the wiper blades worked because on the way back we had a little rain. When I returned it right at 11am. One of the employees almost took me out when I was parking the car. But I almost got very upset when he questioned why I didn't fill it. I told him I'm giving it back the way you gave it to me. Oh wait, I doubled the range and gave the car back at 120 miles. Unfortunately, I have to use Avis for car rentals for business for expense purposes, so I will be back. I'll most likely end up filling up the car more than when I received it, as well as cleaning it out before I return it.

Upon returning the vehicle, I said I wanted the correct price for the Sonata. Again, double-talk about changing inventory, availability due to "problems in the world." Notice the quote marks. That's what the (presumed) owner said. When I said, "I don't know what world problems have to do with renting a car," he left the room and slammed the door behind him. The saving grace for a 2-star review is the young woman who checked in the car. (I know, I'm generous.) She (supposedly) charged us the Sonata rate and applied a $20 discount. She did have to make a call to get approval to do that. I told her that was all I wanted and thanked her for her help. More about taking possession of the car: No introduction on how to use a car I've never driven. Unfamiliar gear shift, the control panel is all new to me. I spent about 20 minutes aquatinting myself with how to operate the car. I did enter my phone so I could use Car Play map. There were previous drivers shown on the screen. I asked to have my fake name removed from the list and was told that would be taken care of by the technician. Right. Do not trust this company to be fair or honest. Call ahead to confirm you will receive the vehicle requested. Or better yet, use a different company.

I get there and they offer me $8k, then after I declined, they offered $9k. That's nowhere near what was discussed before I made the drive. As a woman walking into a dealership alone, I left feeling like I was being lowballed and that they expected me to just accept whatever number they gave me. What bothered me most was that they didn't stand behind what they told me before I drove all the way out there. The frustrating part is that we were actually pretty close to making a deal. Had they been willing to work with me more, I would've bought the vehicle that day. Don't promise numbers you can't come close to just to get someone through the door.
