Ben is probably the worst customer service representative for Hertz. I was reading some comments, and I did feel their pain. I reserved a car, and when I got there, BEN not only ignored my existence, but he also laughed as he was explaining my issues. He said there is nothing he can do if there are no Cars. This is one of the worst places to rent a car for Uber. They are not honest--when you reserve a specific car, they make excuses and try to give you something else instead. The cars they provide are often not clean and have mechanical issues. I rented a car for Uber, but I couldn't even use it because it was broken. I kept calling, but no one answered, and the customer service is very poor. I don't understand how Uber recommends Hertz to drivers. read more

They charge you for cleaning when it would take 5 min to vacuum it and the tell you after they charge the card so you don't take it to the FREE vacuum at Ducky's. I think the overwhelming one stars this "business" is receiving pretty much says it all. I reserved a vehicle via Expedia, and upon arrival was told they had no vehicles and no record of my booking. When I asked them how that was possible they just sort of shrugged their shoulders and laughed and said something to the extent of "Expedia doesn't know what we have in stock, so reservations are meaningless", as if this makes a shred of sense. Clueless/dismissive employees. And when I asked if I'd be getting a refund, they literally laughed and said "nope!" Look guys, I get it, I'm sure it sucks working there. But seriously. Fortunately, I was able to take an Uber over to nearby enterprise, who had vehicles in stock, and were very polite. As for these clowns, Zero stars if I could. read more

Rude staff. Won't recognize or honor President"s circle. He called me before the pick up and told me they were running low on cars he would pre- process my booking. When I showed up the pick up the car, he would not let me use my credit card of choice, which I needed for rental insurance. Bad, and not seeming to get better. My 3rd rental this year, and family members have two others. Since they've gone to Lyft for pickup/return fir rentals, you can NEVER GET AN ON TIME PICKUP!! Reserved my pickup a day ahead, called when they were 15 minutes late, was told 'we'll call our driver NOW' which means another 30minutes wait, so AN HOUR LATE by the time I get there!! Also, last trip- reserved a class of car TWO WEEKS ahead and paid in advance, and they DID NOT HAVE my class or an upgrade. Not sure what to expect when I get to the counter today, I have a coupon for a free upgrade, hopefully I'll AT LEAST get what I paid for! Well okay, they DID HAVE what I paid for, but could not upgrade me, so my coupon went to waste. If I KNEW I was going to get it, I would have reserved one car grade lower! I had called them the day before, but they didn't even attempt to get a car from Dublin or Walnut Creek-- instead, they suggested THAT I GET A CAR FROM AN AIRPORT LOCATION!!! For all the negative reviews, I've used this place many times and never had an issue. Jake, Matthew and Patti (I think) have been great each time over the last couple months. I tend to reserve my cars ahead of time online, am a Gold Club member and also use Triple A. Every time I've gone in, my car has been ready, we do the walk around and we drive off. Returns are just as quick and painless, especially with the night box return. Even using this, had no issues with extra charges or confusion. Left my phone charger in the car at one point & simply called them up, verified the vehicle and they had it for me no problem. The one car-related issue we had was taken care of within a few hours by the manager and the car we got, though similar, was definitely an upgrade. My husband was in a really bad accident and our insurance policy covers a rental car for us. We were told to call our local Hertz Rental Car location to setup a rental. Gave the San Ramon location a call and the man who answered my call was EXTREMELY RUDE. I ended up stopping him mid convo and told him I would take my business elsewhere. Called the Concord location and they were professional and friendly. Take your business elsewhere or hire someone to answer calls with professionalism. read more

Total scam!! The worst service ever. On April 18 I rented a car via the phone. I went to pick it up and it took 90 min, because the agent on the phone wrote "Visa" and was actually "Master Card", because of that I could not rented the cat. I need It to cancel and rebooked again. I was also late for my appointment because of that. Then while I was driving I got flat tire. They sent me to a service shop that ask me to come next day. The next I called the office and they say to change the tire and present them the receipt. I present the receipt to the office and they didn't honor it. I had insurance provided by Hertz too. Insurance covered a full size vehicle. Hertz was unable to supply one. I called every day for 2 weeks. I was promised I'd get one as soon as they got one. I was told they call let locations. I was told they'd call me back. None of this ever happened. The car they gave me was a base Sentra, and it sucked. I complained on day 1 and every day they were open. I has a reservation for a van and when I arrived no van was available was offered a SUV it was beautiful and drove excellent but it was a 8 cylinder which was so much more gas money as I was traveling for 16 hours round trip, trip was amazing but when we returned the vehicle I was charged a $300 fee for a smoking fee. Had to get a rental car b/c my car is in the shop for at least 23 days. AAA is paying for my rental, and Hertz set me up with ..... a ...... NISSAN VERSA. How did I get a Nissa Versa when I drive a TL? That's not comparable... Lucky me, Robin was nice enough to swap me out of the Versa into a larger car as soon as they got one in. Unfortunately, that took five days. And here's the kicker. They would've gotten 4 stars, but the Camry that she swapped me into now has the "Maintenance Req'd" light on! I'm sure it's just an oil change is needed, but c'mon. I think that's something that should've been taken care of before you put someone in a car. No stars deducted but when I picked up the Camry, it wasn't washed....and there was a dead bird stuck in the front bumper grill. Awesome! read more

All of the negative reviews for this location are well-deserved as far as I am concerned. Weeks before my rental, I had reserved a full-size car to ensure our family of four had a comfortable drive to LA. When I arrived, the location had a sign out front that said "Be Back in 10 Minutes". I noticed another man outside the location who said "They went to get my full-size car" which did not make me optimistic that my car would be available. Sure enough, when it was my turn at the counter, the agent indicated they did not have the car that I had reserved, making up some excuse that their rentals had not been returned on time. The agent indicated I could rent an "intermediate" size car instead. He took me out to the lot and showed me what has to be the most pathetic excuse for a rental - a Nissan Versa. Oh, and this car came with all the bells and whistles including a CD player, manual locks, mirrors, and windows - which my kids laughed at because they had never seen a window that you actually had to crank to get down (and they are 8 and 10). The car was a compact at best, so we were all nice and cozy for 700 total miles of driving. Fun. And the agent was so apologetic, he discounted the car rental price to the standard rate for an intermediate rental. Wow, way to take care of a customer whose needs you did not even come close to meeting. I got to rent a car I did not want at the regular price. Thanks Hertz! Needless to say, I will never rent from this location again and encourage anyone who expects excellent and reliable service to steer away from this place. The on site staff was very helpful. However, I was told if I brought the car back with half a tank of gas or more I would not be charged extra. Also, I mentioned we might bring the vehicle back a day early and the service rep advised we would be credited if it was by 1000 am. I did as I was told regarding the tank of gas and had the vehicle back by 1000 the day before it was due back. The company charged me for a full tank of gasoline and did not credit the early return. The gentlemen who checked me was polite and kind fast had me in and out. However, the car itself was not. The van sputtered when I tried to pick up speed on the freeway and made a loud humming noise from the rear as if the wheel bearing was bad or the tires had a lot of tread, almost like a truck. I had no choice but to keep the car I had plans. The day after I returned the car I noticed an additional charge so I called to inquire about it and to tell them the car needed some maintenance it was not a smooth ride at all. When I called to see of that was going to happen I was told the driver is in Antioch and so they would come pick me up when he got back. I asked a friend for a ride. Went to pick up a car and they said we will give you a compact when I had booked a full size. Being a hertz five star renter and traveling with 4 adults and a child that was not acceptable. They said they couldn't do anything. I asked if they could upgrade me, the answer was no to every question. They told me they could not tell me what time my car would be ready. This situation could be handled much better by simply trekking me when I called for a rode that my car was not ready and they would come get me as soon as it was. Instead they showed no respect and care. When I told them they should check their yelp reviews, their response was, all of the rental car companies in the area have bad ratings - for that make it okay? Never again. I usually go to Enterprise when I rent a car while mine is getting repaired. Today was a different story. I tried to rent at enterprise but they would not rent to me due to my temporary license. I have rented from Enterprise many many times and yet they would not make an exception. I called my insurance company and they reserved a car for me at Hertz. Hertz sent someone to pick me up, her name was Daryn. She was very accommodating and helpful. Even though she was still rather new, she still exhibited great customer service. She set me up with a great car and only charged me 1/2 the reservation deposit that Enterprise wanted to charge me. I highly recommend them over enterprise. read more

Our car was in for a few days at the body shop for some "re-do it over again" work. Hertz delivered the car at the body shop and afterwards, I dropped off the car at the body shop, saving me the hassle of picking up and dropping off the rental at the local Hertz office. Real convenient, good customer-focused service. Our rental was a 2010 Jetta with 32,000 miles. Not too bad, pretty clean, well maintained and it had heated front seats. It also came with Hertz Magellan GPS (which I did not use) and with the spare key in the glove box, which is kinda of a dumb place to keep it in case someone breaks into the car. Friendly and courteous staff members. Can't comment on the pricing as it was paid for by the body shop, but the service and car was better than what I experienced a few weeks ago with Enterprise Rent-a-Car. Enterprise gave me a POS Ford Focus with DIY bodywork and a Chevy HHR with no remote. read more

I had an absolutely terrible experience at this location. I was forced to use Hertz at this location because my car was in the body shop. The other party's insurance was contracted with Hertz. They offer a pickup service. I was picked up 40 minutes late than what they had told me. Once at the location, I had to wait another 35 minutes before I could even get to the counter to get the paperwork started. They are very slow here for moving the lines. After I got to the counter and paperwork was completed. I was given a walk through of the car, and asked to wait back in their office for another 20 minutes so they can wash the car before they can give it out. They wash their cars right before renting them out?!?!! Give me a break!!! read more

The agent at the counter was rude and difficult to deal with. I had a same day rental as a Gold Member, and there were no cars available. The vehicle that was offered was almost double the amount of the rental I reserved. I asked for an accommodation as a Gold Member and the gentlemen did not provide one. I requested his name, and the managers name, because he was being rude, short and didn't want to answer my questions. The agent blatantly told me "do you want the vehicle or not, take it or leave it." I said I would contact the area manager, he replied, "you can call who you want" and hung up in my face. I prepay for a luxury car, thinking it might be a more guarantee to get this level of rental, I go to pickup and they tell me they have "impala" as a luxury (which is not!) then try to offer a Ford Escape/ minivan as an alternative! Very upsetting, they lady keeps apologizing, but how good is that! If we get the impala they will still keep the same charge for the luxury which is totally not right! I will never rent from Hertz again. On Friday morning my boyfriend and I rented a car from this location and drove down to San Diego. Much to our surprise the registration on the vehicles had expired FOUR months ago. We were pulled over twice by police over the course of the weekend. When we returned the vehicle the person at the counter was not very helpful and in a very cavalier way basically told us $30 off was the best she can do with no apology whatsoever for the hassle we had to endure. I then called and spoke with the Manager Robin who was incredibly rude and also not helpful. After giving us a car that was illegal to drive and all of the hassle that came along with that - it was a huge disappointment to also have to deal the incredibly poor customer service from two different employees.
