I have used them a few times before, but sadly my last visit was not a pleasant one. They are a smaller rental and you can't leave your car there, like you can at other rental facilities. Lucas the attendant was extremely unhelpful and rude upon returning the car. I had a few questions and concerns and didn't really get any answers to them. I use to think they were a better deal than most of the other car rentals, but I'd rather pay a bit more if it means the customer service is actually courteous and helpful. First of all Mrs. Shandell or whatever her name is was so rude the first words that came out of her mouth made me want to turn around & leave. Mind you I drove to Vista all the way from national city. Yes I understand that they sell tons of cars & are there to sell cars but please don't let the first thing that comes put of your mouth be so rude. Anyways the deal didn't work out for me which I am so thankful for as I went down the road to an actual car dealer.& got a way better price, great customer service & way better miles on the same car. We rented a car for a month after a car accident. We paid over $1300 including $250 for additional insurance. (which covers a car accident but not dog hair). 10 days after returning the vehicle they charged my cc $450 additional to cover vacuuming dog hair. I never agreed to that in the contract, was never offered to vacuum myself and was never provided a contract or invoice that showed an extra cost to AVIS. What a scam!!! This was the last straw! Last summer I had made a reservation through Costco to rent a van for our upcoming family camping trip. When I arrived at this office they did not have one available. The front desk representative said they would have to find a van at another branch. I said forget it! This time, I rented a sedan for one week, again through Costco with the weekly discount. At the end of the week I contacted Budget Rental to extend my car rental for an additional week at the same Costco rate. At the end of two week rental, we returned the car, but was over charged $70! I asked the front desk rep to speak to the manager since she could not help me. She said the manager would call me back to discuss the overcharge. He never called me back. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! I rented a 16 ft truck to move and it was a very smooth and good experience. Not only was it the most reasonable rental I found, but the people working there were very very nice and helpful. This was my first time using Budget because in the past I used the other well known place that starts with U and had a terrible experience with them. I tend to move a lot so from now on this Budget will be my new go to for rentals. Easy pickup/dropoff (for 3 days rental). Staff was pleasant. Paid exactly what I was quoted. The car itself could've been cleaner. Found some trash in the front passenger door and random dirt smudges. The floor could've been vacuumed too (found a few fries and pennies). I have rented from them dozens of times and every time it has been a fantastic experience. The negative reviews, in my opinion, are likely unreasonable people. The two guys who run this place are always super understanding, generous, and just cool, casual people. I was rear ended and had to trade out the car, and they gave me a free day to make up for the lost day from the accident. Even though the accident obviously wasn't their fault, they were just really awesome about it. Also, they aren't pushy on buying Avis insurance, which I truly appreciate. A truck rental from California to Arizona... what could possibly go wrong? Actually, a lot. For starters, the rental truck was not there on time, even though they called several hours in advance to make sure we were still coming to get it. We had to wait TWO HOURS before the truck showed up from another location. Second, they didn't have any of the blankets we requested, which took even more time and hassle. The final straw came from the manager of this location who was EXTREMELY rude. I've dealt with rude people before, but nothing like this. She wanted nothing to do with us and was so uncooperative, she answered the phones while we were trying to resolve the problem and then walked away from us. Her tone was very snotty and her actions were essentially a passive aggressive way of saying, "screw you." The manager explained in an indifferent tone that basically nothing is guaranteed to be at that location, so why do you allow customers to make reservations when you can't be sure that they will receive the services they requested?! It doesn't make any sense! It is appalling that this person is employed at Budget, or at any customer service related job. It's even more baffling that she got the job as a manager in the first place. My experience was so awful I will not be using Budget ever again. Traveling from Texas I rented a truck with Budget, from start was having issues with operating correctly, so I called the location I picked it up from in Texas, they told me I could drop off any budget location and have extra two days. Today I go to drop it off, and Cynthia the woman working there was extremely rude, terrible customer service, all my issues and concerns were a "customer service" issue... Well than what are you doing there? So in the end she threw a $160 additional fee at me without my consent and told me too bad. Very strange and out of the ordinary experience we had with Ernie and Anna, the two representatives (husband and wife) at this Avis/Budget branch. Upon post-rental inspection of the SUV while returning it, we were told by these two employees that we would be charged $9 to fill up the fuel tank because it wasn't not "on the F" part of the fuel gauge. I informed Ernie and Anna that the tank was just filled (about 6-7 miles from the store) prior to our arrival. Insisting that the tank had not been "topped off", Ernie persisted to take a photo of the gauge and showed it to me. Is this part of the Avis policy? Unfortunately for him, the needle on the gauge clearly rested over the "F" to which he refused to show his wife, Anna. Guilty. At the gas station, we topped off the tank curious of what we were lacking in fuel. The fuel added was 0.90 gallon (less than a gallon)! This SUV has an approximate fuel capacity of 20 gallons! This is what Ernie and Anna were arguing with us about. Shame on them. Apparently, they don't understand that the vehicle requires fuel to travel from the gas station to their branch. Ernie's conduct was very offensive, constantly insisting that I was incorrectly reading the guage and suggesting I had not "topped off" the fuel tank. Anna was more polite and professional, maintaining her composure through the entire ordeal. As customer sales representatives, they need to re-analyze their approach to situations such as this. Business will continue to falter without immediate intervention that emphasizes on conduct and professionalism. Good luck Ernie and Anna! We will NOT be back. read more

Get a call the morning we are supposed to move and the employee states that "they cannot find the keys the truck" and that the owner had gone to big bear. On top of this, if you ever try calling this place no one ever picks up the phone. They run a 1/2 assed business and just don't care at all about customer service. Well the owner was supposed to call me back Saturday before closing. He didn't. He didn't call on Sunday either. And then he text messaged me at 6:40 something in the morning saying he still had no truck or call back from the customer service. He was supposed to keep in touch with us and never called us back or messaged back. End of business came around and still no word on a truck. I am glad I didn't cancel my reservation with Penske. I arrive at the location at 12:50pm and there's a note on the door that eyre out to lunch at 1:30pm. {Ticked me off - that's why I called ahead of time. Beware Budget Rental truck, all locations. The people behind the desk may be friendly, but that doesn't mean anything when they overbook their reservations for trucks. We showed up at 9:00 am with a reservation in hand for a 24' truck and were told they had no trucks available, despite the fact that our reservation had been made well in advance. We watched them turn away 4 other people who were in the same situation that day, which demonstrates that this is a common practice and not a rare occurrence. The people at this location explained that it was Budget, not them, who does the overbooking via the Budget Rental Truck website. While that may be true, the people that operate that location clearly had our name and phone number on a printed list of rentals for the week and they could have contacted us to let us know that they did not have a truck for us, when they realized that they had many reservations for a 24' truck and only ONE available to rent that day. Very poor management of inventory. We received very poor customer service with no resolution after an hour of waiting in the office for them to resolve the issue. We ended up going to Ryder and had a very pleasant experience. I recommend that you do not rent from this location due to poor customer service and do not rent from Budget Rental Truck at any location. (PS: this is my first negative review on Yelp... Been standing at the front door for about 5-7 minutes now, and haven't even greeted yet. There are eight people in the waiting room, and a singular representative at the counter who looks less than happy. Nonetheless, I feel for her, because she's singularly going back and forth from the front door to inspect rentals arriving and departing. They need to bulk up their staffing and re-emphasize customer service by providing more staff, especially on high volume days. Honestly, I am really starting to be hesitant to rent from Budget as this seems to be the standard at any location. I get speedier and friendlier from service from Thrifty or Fox rentals than Avis/Budget. As of me starting this review two more parties have entered the door and I still haven't been acknowledged. Note/follow up: the attendant, seeing as I was in a rush to get on my way to meet my mother, sympathized that I needed a car RIGHT NOW to drive the 100 mile distance. The wait to clean the car was 45 minutes to an hour, and I just didn't have time for that. She set me up the next available car that rolled in, even if it wasn't cleaned out. I was grateful for her help, but again, am frustrated that the company as a whole will take reservations for cars currently not on the lot. read more

I read other reviews before I go somewhere. This was not an exception, and I have to say I was scared that the truck I had rented online would be given away. As luck or fate or perhaps just proper planning would dictate, the truck I rented online was there and ready for my pickup when I got there. The associates / owners were nice and cracked a few jokes. They helped me look over the truck and mark the damages. If you've ever rented one of these trucks you'll know how many small dings and scratches are on them, so this can get overwhelming pretty quickly. They don't have a night drop (with an extra 10 dollar fee in places I've seen them). I rented the mid-sized truck for 24 hours with a dolly, and ended up forking over something like 60 bucks. Honestly, I think thats quite a deal. read more

This Budget location is easy to miss. I have been in this shopping center several times to go to Big Lots & never noticed it was there. Budget saved me on Memorial Day weekend when Enterprise screwed me over. I had a reservation there but due to accounting issues on Enterprise's part I was unable to rent. I contacted Budget & they were honest & up front. They had a car available & fully disclosed the company policy regarding using debit cards. They do a soft credit check when they run the card which may not allow you to rent. I appreciated this because I have less than stellar credit. They also put a hold on funds but they did this on my account for only a day before the funds were put back into my account. Luckily, I was able to rent a car & the cost was the same as my Enterprise reservation would have been (and that one had a corporate discount). The gentlemen that worked there were honest, efficient, understanding & sweet. I rented a sexy 2013 red Ford Focus that was sweet!!! It had all the modern features with Bluetooth compatibility. I loved it! If I need to rent a car again I will be using Budget in Vista for sure! read more

Earnest was able to make some calls to make it possible for us to pick up the truck we ordered a week earlier. I too just experienced all of what other Yelpers experienced at this location. Although I had a reservation for a car, I called in advanced to make sure they had the car I reserved so I would not experience the bait and switch tactics described on Yelp. When I spoke to the agent she told me they don't guarantee the car you made a reservation on and I would have to pay an upgrade if my car was not available. They also said I would have to pay $25 per hour for every hour I was late in returning. Normally, rental care agencies give you a 1 or 2 hour window.. Also, the lady who helped me was rude and could careless if I was a satisfied customers. She basically told me to go pound salt if I did not like their policies. I recommend to all Yelpers to never do business with this company. PLEASE do not do business with these folks. They need to be run out of business. read more

Two out of two attempts to rent through the location in Vista, CA, and both were extreme disappointments. The first time, I was chastised for showing up 30 minutes before my rental time and was forced to return half an hour later. They still did not have a car available to me, and I had to stand at the counter for over an hour before someone gave me a rental. Today, I had a rental appointment at noon, and was not going to make the same mistake as last time, so showed up at 12:00 on the dot. The woman was locking up, and told me that her paperwork indicated that she locked up at noon (which clearly she had forged, since it was 12:00 when I got there), so she was unable to reopen. She told me I could come back in the morning, but I need to leave for work at 5am tomorrow. Extremely unhelpful and poorly managed. read more

This place is horrendous! My boyfriend made a reservation a few days ago, he had a coupon code for a free upgrade + 30% off the rental. He gets to the office and is greeted by this horrible "customer service" (what a joke) agent, whom gets very upset that he chooses to not purchase their insurance. I understand that I'm sure they get some kind of commission or recognition for selling the insurance, but if a customer politely refuses it does not give that supposed "customer service" agent to treat him like garbage. She gave him such an attitude and was so demeaning when speaking to him, I'm absolutely appalled that such a person works with people. Wait for it though, it gets worse.... She then proceeds to tell him that she doesn't see his coupon on the system (even though he can clearly see it in his reservation email) and when he asks her more questions she responds with a lovely "what do you want me to do about it?" She's a charmer, right? He decides that he's just had about enough and just wants to leave. When he walks out to the car he notices that A) it's full of dings and dents all over the car, that this broad failed to make notes about and B) it REEKS of cigarette smoke! When this was brought to her attention, she had the audacity to say that's what the car is supposed to smell like. That they steam it and that's the odor. Apparently, she thinks we're idiots and don't know the difference between cigarette smoke and a "steaming." When he asked her what happens if he just chooses to not take the rental, she replies with a "we'll charge you a 'no-show' fee." Uh, hello...he's standing right in front of you. Oh, and that fee happens to be $100...how is that even possible when the reservation was for a week and it was $165? That makes absolutely no sense. Customer Service was called and they opened a case and told him he can just exchange it at any other Avis...here's the problem with that. Not only do we have to drive around to other locations, which costs time and money (we work), but all the other locations refused to exchange the car! I am so disappointed with this company. This is not how you do business and you definitely don't hire such an incompetent, rude individual to be face-to-face with your customers. I will definitely be filing a claim with the BBB, we will never again do business with this company. read more

This is the worst place to rent a truck. 1st we made a reservation for 9am pick up & they did not have our truck, the lady up front Cynthia was of no help at all ! She was rude, and disrespectful ! Then the freaking truck doesn't arrive until 11am 2 hours later, again she did not help she was not sorry. The owners (Ernest and his wife) are amazing, however their staff member Cynthia (I think that was her name, she is a short round woman, with dirty blonde curly hair) is horrible. When we returned the car she was screaming at someone on the phone saying "You aren't dealing with the owner, you are dealing with me", after waiting a few minutes she directed her attention to me. I gave her my name and rental car keys. The ring on the keys was damaged when we got it, and we replaced it with a twist tie. She immediately yelled at me saying "YOU HAVE TO RETURN THE CAR KEYS AS THEY WERE, AND IT WILL BE A 50 DOLLAR CHARGE FOR THE DAMAGE". When I said that seems like an excessive amount of money to pay for an already damaged key ring, she went off the rails. She went out to the car and immediately screamed at my Dad to remove some wrappers from the car, which he was in the process of doing. She refused to open the gate to allow us to use their dumpster to throw out the wrappers. When we tried to throw the trash out inside the office she screamed at us "YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR TRASH, GET IT OUT OF MY OFFICE". I started to get mad and asked her to open the gate so we can throw it in the dumpster, she finally did open the gate and almost slammed the gate in my father's face. I asked to speak with the owner and she yelled again "HE IS NOT IN. YOU'RE DEALING WITH ME". When I went inside to get the final bill and asked to go over the car with her, she threw the final bill at my father, and then threw some books. She refused to go over the car with me, and didn't even want to see the rental agreement. I filed a formal complaint with Avis, and will never be renting from this location again unless I'm dealing with the owners directly. Hopefully this horrible employee will be fired, reading other people's reviews she has a track record of doing this. read more
