I really wanted to like this place, the menu is awesome and the pizza is tasty, and it's not a chain. But, they get our order wrong 99% of the time, unfortunately. My wife and I ordered takeout a bunch of times and they always mess up the order, sometimes there's no sauce on the pizza, sometimes another ingredient is missing, it's all over the road. Great spot for a close to home drop in. Good service and food. The waitress was very nice and attentive. We were seated quickly, but it was late Wednesday evening and not a lot of patrons. We've been there several times and have always had a positive experience. It's a little noisy in the main dining area, but also cozy with a fire in the fireplace and the bar is comfortable. I had the spinach salad with chicken, my husband had the Mediterranean salad with chicken. Every neighborhood needs a great little Italian joint and Aviva is mine. here's why: It's consistently great! Friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, very casual. Can get a little loud but it's a nice energetic feel that's open to families with young kids, couples, groups. Our favorites: greens and beans, Aviva salad, portobello mushroom pizza, sausage stromboli. My sister raves about their ricotta gnocchi but I always get pizza. Servers are great. Shout out to Stanley and Melanie. Jay, the owner, is almost always there to make sure everything is running smoothly. Most nights you can get a table without much wait but weekends get crowded and some Thursdays, so check the Yelp no wait app and get in line if they're busy. Once the weather warms, they have a great patio for outdoor dining. Also very affordable -- so you can eat here on a regular night out and not feel like you spent a mint. On a recent trip tried the place because we were over Bob Evans and having a hard time finding a good local place when we asked we were told of chains to try. (yeah right) the place has an odd lay out and we did not know you could bring your own wine (no bar) but the pizza was pretty good good enough that we took it back to the motel with us and finished the leftovers. if we come that way again we will stop again. the reason behind 3 stars is basically slower service than we prefer and no bar read more

Not often in this area, but we were looking at a vehicle in Wexford when we happened upon this little gem. We have now been there twice and planning another visit soon! The salads are fresh, crisp and delicious. The homemade dressing is outstanding. The Aviva pizza is a must! Crisp and loaded with tasty sausage and fresh hot peppers. I think that really makes the pizza stand out, they don't use the usual salty, vinegar laden canned peppers. Service is efficient and knowledgeable. read more

Decent, but nothing that makes this place stand out. As italian fare goes, the food is reliable. Service is good, not memorable. Prices are reasonable ($30/person on average incl. tip). Our table was a little bit wobbly. The restaurant is a bit on the noisy side. Would recommend for lunch specials, soup/salad, gnocchi or whole wheat pasta options. My partner ordered a mojito and I thought that might have been a mistake at an Italian restaurant...but it turned out darn good, so I ordered a margarita, another cardinal sin at an Italian restaurant. Horrendously bad experience. We called for delivery on a Sunday evening and we were told "sorry we decided to close an hour and a half early tonight." What a nice way to treat a loyal customer, and after we spent the time to decide where to eat and what to order. Went there for lunch - big mistake! If you have a limited time for lunch DO NOT go to Aviva. We were thirty minutes late getting back to work. The food was OK but the portions were small and it was not a value at all. $60 for three people at lunch is insane especially when there were no appetizers or alcohol. I LOVE AVIVA! I am from Nashville and everytime I come to Pittsburgh I make time to go to Aviva at least once. The crust is thin yet chewy with a great flavor. There's not too much sauce where you can't pick it up but not too little where you can't taste it. One time I had the sausage and banana pepper pizza which was awesome but watch out! They use fresh banana peppers making it VERY spicy! I have also had the salads at Aviva and I can't complain there either. The service can be a little slow here but the pizza is so good I deal with it. read more

My wife & I love to go to BYOB restaurants all around Pittsburgh. Checking out new places and enjoying a bottle of wine with friends is a favorite night out even if it's on the other side of town. But when we want to stay local to the Cranberry/Wexford area, Aviva Brick Oven is a BYOB favorite. The menu is simple but good. I'd love to see ABO make more pasta but we've had the salads and pizzas many times and they're excellent. After reading the reviews, I'm going to try the meatball pannini for the first time; sounds great! I've read reviews here that fault the service for being slow. I understand the comment but my sense is that ABO has a more relaxed pace. They're not rushing you out the door or pestering you. I guess that makes some folks feel ignored but when we're enjoying our meal, wine and conversation, I've been very comfortable with the pace and care from the staff. So look, it's not Marea in NYC but we're heading there AGAIN for dinner tonight and looking forward to it. read more

Took my 9 year old son in around 8 after a swim meet. What a pleasant surprise! Decor is beautifu; service was quick and perfect. Food was excellent, delivered quickly and quietly. Fairly crowded place, but one of the few where you can take a kid or a date. We ate indoors but could have dined outside. You can see the crew making the food and my son asked how the man learned how to toss the pizza dough into the air and catch it! Like everything else, you gotta practice. 2nd best pizza I ever had. First goes to the now closed DiCarlos pizza that used to be by old navy. But been here 3 times so far and haven't had a bad meal. My wife and I found this place when we moved to the area, and it became our go-to pizza place because it was hands-down the best around. Yesterday my wife ordered a plain pizza to-go; which we've done countless times before on our way home from work (we also love their BBQ chicken and buffalo chicken pizza, and their chicken parm sandwich) Yesterday however, it was no better than a chain restaurant pizza. The crust was bland and thin, and the amount of cheese was pathetic; so much so the cheese started to bake into the crust where the sauce was thin. Literally every occasion before yesterday, the cheese was plentiful and gooey, and just plain delicious. Also, on all past occasions the crust was hearty and captured the wood fired taste. We'll no doubt give this place one more try, hoping it was a fluke, but if this is the new norm to cut costs or whatever, then off we go to some place else with better parking, and a friendlier staff (two things we happily overlooked because the food was that good). read more

Very good brick oven pizza. The crust was crisp and flavorful, the pizza was light on the sauce, and it had a good helping of toppings. And the meatball appetizer was flavorful and melted in your mouth. I'll definitely be back as we had a very good experience there with friendly service. And the place was crorwded. It's obvious from some reviews that they may not be authentic. And i mean the review and the food.!!! I hate to post bad reviews. I love food. we go out for almost every meal....but....... The food here is terrible. I don't know where all these other reviewers are coming up with these 4 & 5 star reviews but this is a terrible italian/pizza joint. The only reason i would give this place 2 stars is because the service was decent. Food was a zero. Service was a 4. Do not waste your money at this place. Go to Anthony's Coal Fire Pizza in Cranberry or Bellisarios in Allison Park. You can even go to Whole Foods and order a better pie. Do not waste your money at this place. Sad but we literally live a mile away. To add to our experience, 2 guys walk in and one of them is holding a 40 lb dog. The one holding the dog sits down at the table next to us. I love dogs. I don't want to eat my eggplant rolatini 3 feet from a dogs butt. We're talking about the center of the dining room. When I mention this to the server, she tells us that she can't do or say anything because it's the "owners son". Wow. Good luck with this place. Good news for them is the place was packed. Aviva's pizza is just as good or better than the "other guys" (from Mt Lebanon and Market Square) and their pricing is where it should be. We were there for happy hour and sampled a few dishes including the margarita pizza. Nice and cheesy with fresh mozzarella. No skimping on the toppings as we saw around the bar/dining room. Sauce was fresh and light, not too spicy or overpowering. Fresh salad, homemade dressings. The sausage in the greens and beans was spicy, yet fresh and lean. We also tried the eggplant rollatini stuffed with ricotta. Again, yum and cheesy! The bartenders were very friendly and accomodating. We will be back! read more

We are frequent diners here. The pizza is great, but pricy for the portion size. The spaghetti and meatballs are also very good, as is the pasta in vodka sauce. This is a kid-friendly restaurant, however, they do not give kid menus and crayons. Bring your own kid activities because the wait for your food can sometimes be kind of long. The one thing that needs improvement is the customer service. The servers are inconsistant. One young woman in particular is very friendly and outgoing, very good with kids. Then other servers are quiet and don't smile much. We went a few nights ago and the server's attitude was pretty blah, which of course was awkward for us. Every time we go we hope the friendly, outgoing girl is there! Don't go during peak dinner hours unless you don't mind waiting for a table. This is a popular spot! I will say their table spacing is good and you don't feel like you're on top of your neighbor. Go before prime time if you have children with you. read more
