It's a little weird that we didn't order from a cashier, I like human interaction, but once we figured out how the system worked it wasn't so bad. We opted to dine-in and got to enjoy the cute decor in the restaurant. I loved the tiles and the surfboard ceiling fixture, very fun. Our meals were delivered in a timely fashion and our server was so incredibly nice! They got my sisters order wrong so she brought it back and they were more than happy to get it right and threw in a bowl as an apology. What a level of customer service! I ordered an ahi tuna bowl without the cilantro lime rice, just to keep it a little on the light side. It was a great mix and the seared tuna was expertly executed. Nice and warm brown rice and quinoa base with chilled/lightly dressed lettuce mix, chopped pineapple and onion, avocado and seared tuna squares. There aren't any decent tacos in New Hyde Park, point blank. So when Avo Taco showed up on a quick Yelp search last month, I was more than excited to check it out. Their setup reminds me of a dining model I've only experienced in states like Texas and California: walk in, grab a table number, order and pay for your food/drinks via touch screen, seat yourself anywhere in the restaurant with your table number clearly displayed, and receive your order less than 10 minutes later. Super efficient, tbh. I recommend either their calypso steak bowl or seared ahi tuna bowl. Just add tacos or a quesadilla to share if you're extra hungry! Perfect portions, healthy ingredients, and leaves you satisfied. Oh, and did I mention their happy hour includes $5 margaritas?! I've been going to avo since they opened. I have had nothing but great experiences since. Until my last order, it was taco Tuesday (05/19/20) I had to do curbside pickup because of the covid situation, I totally understand that safety of employees and customers is of utmost importance in these times, but the online order system needs serious tweaking. I ordered while in the parking lot, and waited for over an hour for my order. There should definitely be a notification sent or a call sent when the food is ready and with clear instructions on where to park. Upon arriving home with my food, I open the guacamole and there was plastic in the guacamole. I have attached a photo. Happen to stumble upon AvoTaco tonight and boy did we find a gem. Aesthetically, it has a super cool vibe and bonus of live music tonight. Each employee we encounter was fabulous. I wish I wrote down their names. The bartender was super sweet and gave perfect recommendations for drinks, dinner and later dessert. Definitely save room for dessert, best vanilla ice cream and churros and keylime pie had the perfect twist if uniqueness! Went here for first time today craving tacos. I qas really surprised to find such delicious tacos in a really unassuming location. I had the shrimp remoulade, the Californian, and the steak calypso. I love that you can place your order through their screen kiosks and order alcoholic beverages through there as well without needing to go to the bar separately. Staff was courteous and friendly. There is an option to use your phone to order from the table, a server come to the table to take your order or order from the front counter. We choose the latter. If you are a seafood taco person the -coco loco- is awesome. Grab a cocktail and take home a mason jar with there logo. Dessert is also a surprise! Their steak tacos were really good, we had ordered one of each kind, however on everyone of the tacos, the steak was really cold, not even room temperature. If the steak was actually warm, it would've be absolutely delicious. The corn salsa topping is by far my favorite on the tacos. And their elote is a must order and the churros! From salad bowls, veggie, chicken, pork or beef tacos, each of those with at least 4 choices! The tortilla chips are warm and delicious. They have five dollar drink choices, and they give you a free glass on Thursdays and sometimes a complimentary tiny free ice cream cone. And servers run around asking if they can help you. Clean facilities in the "Whatever" labeled bathrooms, and.... live music that Thursday. What's not to enjoy?! The crowd is from college age to folks in their seventies with enough parking.
