I'm updating my review to include the stellar service and food I received yesterday when ordering curbside ( car side I should say) yesterday afternoon. A nice young man came out to inform me that all orders will be taken simply by calling in or GrubHub/ Door Dash. I called in my order and Amanda politely took my credit card info and placed my order for 2 Amy Shroomer Tacos, 1 Prickly Pear Margarita ( You heard right ! Dranks To Go at Happy Hour Menu Price !!!!!) and a order of chips and guacamole. I used my Yelp Coupon and my food was ready in 10 minutes tops. AVO is keeping it totally sane and sanitized with the orders To Go. Customer Service equally matched the food. The Prickly Pear Margarita on the rocks was the best I've had. Super Strong ! Super delicious. The Amy Shroomer was delicious. Fresh scallion, fried onions, mushrooms and horseradish crema. I'm still drooling ! The tortilla chips were way too salty for my liking. The guacamole however redeemed the chips. Chunks of avocado, decent portion to share and nice garlic flavor. Could use a little more cilantro but hey! I'm far from complaining. Avo. Great-tasting tacos and burrito bowls! Located right next to LA Fitness, which is amazing for me, because I work out so that I can eat! The Food: 4.5 out of 5 stars I would highly recommend their delicious tacos. They have so many different types to choose from. I also liked their burrito bowl. We got the honey chipotle chicken, which was a decent size bowl with a good amount of meat, veggies and guac. My recommended tacos: 1. Shrimp Remoulade: this was my favorite taco so far, with lots of shrimp and great seasoning. 2. Calypso Steak: delish, and they don't skimp out on the meat. 3. The Carny: tasty pulled pork with a nice cheesy sauce on top. The Space: 4.5 out of 5 stars I like the way they decorated this restaurant. It has a beachy vibe to it, even though we are far away from the ocean. They have a rack of surf boards on the ceiling that makes me want to get out on the waves again. The seating is plentiful and clean. The Service: 5 out of 5 stars Everyone who works here seems happy, and they are very pleasant. Haven't had any issues whatsoever. They have all been great both times that I have been here. We most recently even got free ice cream! The Price: $$ Each of the tacos cost about $4.25 or $4.50, which is a tad bit expensive compared to other taco shops. However, you do get a good amount of food with each taco. Picked up Avo 2 weekends in a row and have not been disappointed! Our first run was a "large" order to feed about 6 adults...steak, tortillas (made in house), guac, cheese and all the fixins. We also added some street corn which is messy but ohh soo good. High quality food for sure! I was hooked after one bite. My last run here, I ordered the Rastaman tacos and they were exceptional! It was very crowded at first but I did get a table. When you order your food and beverage they give you a marker to take to the table and the food is brought to you. The food is delicious better then Chipotle The drinks are good at the end of your meal your given a small free ice cream cone. They had live entertainment ( he's talented ). The food is extremely disappointing, I've never seen a restaurant that is literally named for Tacos serve cheese burgers on their menu (Big red flag).The Birria tacos were $17 for 3 little tacos that honestly seemed frozen. The Birria dip tasted sweet like ketchup and was not authentic whatsoever. This place is modern, clean and the tacos are delicious! I have ordered through uber eats and have dined in and both have been very positive experiences. Although the tacos are a tad expensive at $4.75, I find the flavors and quality to be well worth it. My favorites are the Juanita steak taco & Coco Loco shrimp taco. So flavorful and fresh! When I am hungry, 3 tacos are sufficient. I came here once during happy hour ($5 cocktails!) and went through pretty much all their cocktails- they pack a punch! My favorite out of the ones I tried was the Prickly Pear margarita. Pro tip- come during Taco Tuesday and get any 3 tacos for $10! (I only wish the online ordering system would pick up on the Taco Tuesday deal so I can order ahead for lunch at work, instead of sending someone and having them wait for it) They also give out cute little ice cream soft serve at the end when you dine in! read more

I typically don't order quesadillas at restaurants because it's something that I can make at home but I was wrong- what they make cannot be duplicated! When you sit inside you receive a number and your items will be brought to your table. The elote (street corn) was brought out to me first and it was love at first bite! Next I had el flaco and the flavors were so delicious I ate the tomatoes that I forgot to say no too but it was too good. Warning they were giving out free ice cream and I didn't tip on the website I prefer giving cash tips so as we waited on the ice cream that never came I knew that had to be the factor to them not bringing the ice cream so I had my man ask and they said they would WE NEVER RECEIVED THE ICE CREAM SO THEY NEVER RECEIVED THE TIP. I'm very torn with this review. I've been wanting to come here for quite sometime, but I'm never in the area anymore, but I happened to be today..so I couldn't pass it up. Upon walking in I wasn't greeted by anyone. The only register said "this register is closed." I place my order on the kiosk. Before checking out the kiosk asked me what my tent number is. Tent number? Didn't know I was camping. A quick look around and I saw the table number tents under the kiosk table. I enter it. Pay, and head to a table with my tent number. Again, if I was greeted and this process was explained to me a little better, confusion would have been non existent. I ordered a shrimp coco Loco taco, shrimp remoulade taco and el flaco chicken taco. The shrimp coco loco taco was my favorite. The shrimp had great flavor and the toasted coconut was wonderful. The other two were just okay. But if I were to pick my favorite out of the both of them, it would be shrimp remoulade taco. The chicken flaco was flavorless. While eating an employee was giving out small ice cream cones. People to the table next to me was offered ice cream, and some people on front of me waiting for take out. I was not offered ice cream. Not sure why. But, hmm? Tacos range from $4.00-$4.50 each, which is very reasonable. Tuesdays are 3 for $10, which is a great deal. Tacos were very filling. It's been a while since I have been to avo taco. I was so excited to go today and get some tacos. 3 tacos are for 14 this time around. Inflation ppl. I got my usual and it was different. Tacos were just meh, it used to be amazing. I am not sure what changed but this is not the taste I am used to in the past. Tacos taste a little lifeless now. Came here again at 9:30 pm on a Friday night! Tried the Brusselsprouts appetizer, it was okay but I would skip this next time because it tasted more burnt than roasted. Their guac options look interesting though! I also tried the Loco Coco taco (coconut shrimp) and the Carny taco (braised pork). Both tacos were sweet and savory but I think I slightly preferred the Loco Coco over the Carny because the Carny's sauce was a bit overpowering. You haveeeee to ask for the free ice cream! They give you a little soft serve in a small cone that's super cute and the perfect way to round out your meal. Came here a few time, had the Guacamole & Chips to start, Coco Loco, El Jefe, and Calipso Steak Tacos and a Signature Margarita to wash it down with. Their happy hour drinks are pretty good for $5. After eating all that I was still a little hungry, the portions are reletivity inexpensive but they are quite small too. I found the food quite tasty and the staff was excellent and very attentive, however if you are a big eater be prepared to order a lot and can be quite pricing. Came to Avo Taco for lunch part 1 with a friend after hearing the raving reviews. We ordered through the Kiosk system, which was a nice way to see the detailed description of each item on their menu. Don't be idle for too long tho, because it might refresh! We got the guacamole to share, two calypso steak tacos (highly recommended to us by a friend), a Californian fish taco, and a shrimp remoulade taco. We also shared a prickly pear margarita. I was disappointed that the tortillas for all of the tacos were cold. This definitely took away from the overall enjoyment, which is sad because I could tell there were some great flavors there. All of the fillings tasted pretty good, but definitely did not get the WOW that I was expecting. By the way, I brought some disposable plastic gloves for us to use and that saved us a lot of trouble/stress about eating with our hands and taco sauce dripping, so I highly recommend you bring if you have. The guacamole was standard and came with ample chips. The margarita was delicious, not too strong & not too sweet, and looked really cute too. My visit to Avo Taco was nothing short of amazing! I fell in love with the restaurant even before the food arrived. Something about the Hawaiian vibes, cute decor, chill island music, and generous Happy Hour makes you want to stay awhile. When we arrived, we were given free reign to pick a table and order with the QR code. We had arrived just in time for happy hour, and ordered enthusiastically given the shockingly cheap happy hour bites. Yucca fries for $2! A trio of flavored guacs with chips for $7! Margaritas, mojitos, and other cocktails for $6! Is this for real?! We had to stop after picking our three custom guacs and move on to the mains. The culinary paradise did not stop there. Their menu was filled with a plethora of taco options, burrito bowls, quesadillas, and more. As we perused, the options sounded exceedingly mouthwatering. There were at least 3 different type of fish tacos including mahi and ahi tuna. There was a Pineapple Fried Pork Belly taco too. The combos were extremely colorful and unique, each one a balance of different types of slaws, sauces, and proteins. Our apps came first and we dug in eagerly. Surprisingly, the yucca fries were amazing. The tray of beautifully presented fries was sprinkled with cotija cheese and topped with chipotle mayo. They were so flavorful, delightfully soft, and fried to a soft crisp. The guac sampler was amazing as well. There was a selection of 7 different guacs with toppings. Definitely order the sugared bacon one, the shrimp remoulade and corn, and the carnitas one! These guacs are a must try! By the time our tacos came, I was admittedly 75% full. We expected our tacos to be on the skimpier side but they were loaded. My crispy pork belly and pineapple taco was a tasty sweet and savory option. The Californian was a classic fish taco with juicy fried Mahi and crunchy slaw. My Virgin Pina Colada was the perfect pairing to this meal. Avo Taco is a spot I should love, I want to love, but sadly don't love. It's a great spot to hang out providing you love that Mexican via all-inclusive vibe going on - It's clean, the staff is super-friendly, the island vibe music playlist sets the tone along with the decor. If I closed my eyes I could imagine I was at a resort in Playa Del Carmen instead of NHP LI. To paraphrase an Impractical Jokers recent episode, the food lacks "zest" (Pardon my pretentiousness). I have no issue paying upwards of $4-$5 each for a taco, but they better be bringing it, but it is not brought. I've been here a few times, tried different things to give them a fair shot. The Californian fish taco was basically a room temp fish stick on top of a bit of slaw covered in remoulade sauce. The texture of the El Jefe chicken taco can only be described as mealy and again room temp. The worst offense is the food is all somewhat bland - even the guacamole which I ordered on its own (no additions) need squirts of hot sauce to give some type of flavor. The other items I tried in the past did not leave much of a impression either. Their red hot sauce does have a nice kick thankfully and they have freshly made thin tortilla chips. You might be better off at happy hour, or the 3 for $10 taco Tuesday specials - just keep your food flavor expectations in the low/mid range and they will be met. The bar has some quality choices. The house tequila is Hornitos which is 100% blue agave based and makes for a fine mixer. For my birthday my mother wanted to take me to lunch and so here we are we sat at a hightop table next to the bar again which would mean we would have the bartender as a server. This time around we had a young lady who came over introduced herself and seemed nice. We ordered some drinks, appetizers, and this is where the issue began. My mother ordered a piña colada and being that she was here last week only just a few days ago she was set on getting something that she enjoyed her last visit. The drink was completely different, completely filled with ice and when she asked for less ice she actually gave her half of a drink. The manager on site saw us leaving and intervened asking us to stay after explaining ounces to me and I told him I've bartended for many years and this is not 5 ounces of a drink which he agreed. We did decide to stay however I was already over it but to not spoil the mood I ordered 3 tacos shrimp remoulade, Buffalo shrimp & flower power which I sent back I'm not a curry person at all and it was a recommendation I had no idea it had that flavoring to it. The shrimp remoulade was the best one. My daughter got a kids chicken quesadilla and she did not eat it it was shredded chicken on a 1 taco tortilla very small in size, she's used to something else so she refused to eat it. The quesadilla wasn't even cut in half and my mother ordered a quesadilla chipotle chicken which she only ate one piece of my daughter also didn't like her quesadilla she questioned why it had pineapple and didn't want it after that. Raped with the bill. My boyfriend and I came for drinks and food. We normally order doubles everywhere we go, and know for a fact it's going to be a bit more pricey. To tell me my $11 margarita PLUS $20 (what they consider a double) puts my drink at $31. Came across Avo Taco on Yelp as I was looking for a good taco place and was really excited to try it. I ordered the el jefe, coco loco and the cowboy tacos along with the Hawaiian chicken quesadilla for pick up. The tacos were all pretty good, I'm usually not a fan of corn tortillas but really liked them with these tacos. The el jefe taco was definitely my favorite, the sweet juicy pineapple was perfect with the juicy shredded chicken. It was flavorful and delicious. The coco loco taco had two large crispy coconutty shrimp with coleslaw. I enjoyed the sweet almost Thai chili-like sauce. The cowboy taco was good but out of the three my least favorite. The bbq sauce is great and the onions were crispy and a great touch but I do wish that the meat and the onions were seasoned a bit more. Overall these tacos were really good but they are on the more expensive side ($4+ for a taco). The quesadilla was my favorite out of everything I got. It was packed with juicy and tender chicken with a little sweetness from the pineapple. It was packed with flavor and they definitely did not skimp on the meat. We've been long time fans of avo taco because the food has always been consistently great and I will not stop being a customer but the service is sometimes lacking. The last two times I have visited, there has always been something missing or incorrect in my takeout order. I understand that they are very busy, but it is frustrating to arrive home and find something missing. The first time was a missing guacamole and chips. The second time we were given a "virgin" pina colada that actually contained alcohol that my child ended up trying before I could get to it unfortunately. Management did try to rectify the issue with a refund of the items so I do appreciate that. I ordered the Blackened Shrimp bowl: blackened shrimp, mango salsa, avocado, corn salsa, avocado poblano crèma * I asked for extra crema and they gave me a side of it with none in the bowl. I think the extra crema would've made it taste better. I get really irritated when restaurants can't follow simple instructions when it comes to extra sauces - it was on the receipt too so I'm not sure why it wasn't in there. The food was bland, and so I wasn't impressed. On the plus side, the interior is really cute, with lots of colors and lots of drink options. Their happy hour is really appealing too! It had a great, laid back atmosphere and very relaxed bar scene. There are plenty of seats and even a table top video game to play. Seriously, I'm so torn on Avo Taco with 3 1/2 stars being the perfect grade. My recent trip here for dinner (with two amigos) explains the process and why I headed south of that half. One step inside this new Mexi-spot and you'll get a blast of fun in the style and decor. Welcoming employees at the front explained the choice between kiosk and cashier ordering. Even if one day we'll be taken over by robots, I opted for the technology and was able to order things easily through the touch screen right after one of my chums finished. The other fella in our party ordered at the cashier in between our two kiosk orders. Worth noting as his meal came out quick while my kiosk-ordering friend and I waited a good 10 minutes before our tacos arrived. Odd. Before getting into my grub, I will say Avo's menu has some nice variety. The taco choices, bowls, chips with guac toppings, and street corn (along with a bar of adult beverages) makes for some quality selections. Speaking of quality, I think that's there too, for the most part. You'll see what I mean in a sec. Two tacos and a fountain drink was my order along with some chips and guac topped with pineapple, cotija cheese, and bacon that we shared between the three of us. The chips were fresh and didn't taste bag-based while the guac was one of the better non-table-side selections of encountered. Taco numero uno was a fried shrimp selection (Coco Loco) that gave off some nice breading even if the sweet chili sauce that was supposed to accompany it was almost nonexistent. Taco numero dos (The Carny) was shredded pork that (my buddy and I agreed) was a little dry. Maybe it was an off-meat day. Truth be told, the taste was still worth returning. It's the amount of food to the price that had me pondering what was taken out of my pocket (i.e. money). The base-price for every taco was $4 which is not a bad deal when comparing usual monetary amounts of chicken to shrimp to steak. Problem is, that shrimp taco had just two shrimp in it and left me questioning the cost. The pork made sense, though that guac? Those toppings ran it up to $8 and it didn't feel like there was all that much. I don't know, maybe I'm being picky, but it rubbed me the wrong way. The last uncomfortable concern were the mini ice cream cones that were being distributed to some, but not all customers. The table right next to us each received one from a few employees while the three of us ate, finished, and departed without even a nod in our direction. Perhaps someone from that table saw the cones and asked, but how would anyone know unless it was something that the staff supplied without some original wonder? Hmmm... Overall, Avo Taco has the makings of a respectable taco shop, but currently, seems to be falling short of expectations. Yeah, I didn't get any bowl or street corn or cocktails so a return trip should happen to help round out this review. For now, things are three until I do get back. Proximity to my abode makes this possible as sooner rather than later, though I can't guarantee just when that will be. For now, maybe Yelp can work on that half star system to help in giving this place the proper review-ranking. Please? read more

Let's TACO bout AVO TACO. What a fabulous new addition to New Hyde Park! I have seen this being built from the beginning and was wondering for quite some time when it would open and let's just say I'm happy it's finally open! The atmosphere of this place is awesome. It really is an upscale, trendier version of every taco place you can think of. You can order at the counter or on the screens and the food is brought to you at your table. Drinks! There are plenty of options of drinks: Pina coladas, margaritas, sangria, you name it! They are served to you in cute little mason jars with the logo engraved. We had great service from the bartender, Bailey! She was so sweet and gave us a little background on the place and what she recommends. The food: the tacos were filling and a reasonable price (4-4.25 a taco). You can also customize the taco after you select it on the screen if you don't what some toppings or sauces on it. The chips and guacamole were also delicious too! There is an option to add condiments to your guac such as bacon and other items. Just when we thought we had a great experience... Bailey comes up to us after our meal and asks if we want free ice cream. FREE ICE CREAM?!? I was waiting for the catch and there wasn't one. She brought us out two adorable mini cones of vanilla ice cream (picture attached to this review) and it was just icing on the cake! She later told us that you are not limited to just one ice cream so obviously had to get seconds! I loved AVO TACO and will certainly recommend this to everyone I know. It's Taco Tuesday and I'm writing a review for a new, 4 star place called Avo Taco. I walked into the restaurant and there was no line. They're pushing me to use their stupid kiosks, I have important questions about beer. Don't bother me with your kiosk system. I walk up to the counter and the gentleman points to a girl on a cell phone. He says once she's off the phone, she'll be able to help you. I almost ripped the phone out of the cashiers hand and said she'll call you back. Um.. hello new restaurant? I am your most important customer. You have all these people standing around waiting to help, such a incorrect response. Once I have everyone's full attention, we start talking beer. I hate IPAs, I see two beers on tap and one of them is an IPA. The other is a dark beer? I want a Modelo or something similar, I was given a taste of the dark beer. Pass. They need to get off the craft beer train or have better choices. What they did have as taste like IPAs.. I do have to say, the happy hour $5 margaritas are killer. Avo Taco has a full bar with beers on tap and tasty margaritas. So far so good. The first time I walked in, I see either the owner / head chef talking to someone. We make eye contact and I say, first time here guys. What I see looks great. And it does, Avo Taco is located in a small strip mall but what they did with the space is make it a fun baja style place. Lots of simple items like fresh chips and queso, street corn and tacos. I ordered two tacos to start. What I liked about Avo, both tacos were made with quality ingredients. Everything I ordered tasted fresh & fun. Now someone comes up to me and asked if I wanted fresh guacamole and chips. Um.. Yes! The chips were insane! Freshly made, not out of a bag, this is a cool spot for sure. The Mexican Street Corn was seasoned perfectly. Very tasty starter, a must try if you love Mexican Street Corn. What I was hoping to see on their menu was a homemade Pozole soup. I bet if they put their minds to it, Avo Taco can make a dynamite Pozole soup. The next time I came, it was for lunch and I ordered a bowl. The short rib bowl was topped with a truffle flavored creama. Wow! Very very good, total fan. Now someone taps me on the shoulder. Hey, have room for a free ice cream? Heck yes! It was small but welcomed. Avo Taco, a Florida chain but what they have here in our nabe is something very good. 4 sold stars from me.
