I have been to a few other Margaritas Cafe. This one seems like a distant relative. The staff were friendly and professional. Always asking if we needed anything and how everything was. They did seem a little overwhelmed due to the busyness of the Saturday night. The mariachi band were super talented and fun. From "Happy Birthday" to "Ole Ole Ole" they killed it! The deco is welcoming and artistic with paintings and other art styles. The restaurant was clean as the staff was clearing tables and tending to messes in a timely matter. My only complaint is the food. Most people in my party said the same. I got the special "Cara Mexicana" the shrimp were over cooked, and the steak had a burnt and charred taste to it. I ordered it medium rare and it was still purple on the inside. Which made the meal hard to finish. I will say the table side guacamole was very tasty. Not sure if it was an off night, or they were just swamped. But I will not be returning to this MC. The one in East Meadow is my favorite and I'll be going there. read more

I didn't want to fill up on this so I didn't have any. My boyfriend enjoyed though. For drinks I got a coconut margarita and he got the house margarita. Both tasty! For an appetizer we got queso fundido. Absolutely delicious! Definitely fixed my craving for ooey gooey melted cheese. I enjoyed the chorizo pieces also! For my entree I got shrimp tacos. It was good, but the shrimp was diced up quiet small. Not really sure how many "full sized" shrimp the diced up pieces would be equal to. It came with rice and beans. Overall it was tasty, but I would have preferred full sized shrimp. My boyfriend got arroz con pollo. He enjoyed it and it remained super hot the entire time. Even on the car ride home his leftovers remained super hot. It also came with a side of refried beans. Our waitress never really came back. Someone else brought our appetizer and someone else brought our entrees. She never came back to see if everything was okay or if we needed anything until the last few minutes of the meal. Went to Margaritas Cafe in Smithtown tonight for dinner. Very disappointed. Our water was non-existent most of the night. Took my drink order and ignored the rest of my family. Brought my drink and disappeared again. We finally got all of our orders in. My fajitas came with my plate of sides. Myself and one of my kids ordered double rice and no beans. Both of us got beans. My tortillas came out 25 minutes later after asking 3 times. By that time my meal was cold. Decided to order dessert as we were there for a birthday celebration. We were here for birthday celebration which the guy named Bryan totally ruined it. His cocky attitude, no respect for customers, I am surprised how the owners still tolerate him and let him run the business. We had asked for birthday dessert and celebration in the beginning which he had agreed too but supposedly he told the waitress not to do it since they are busy. Been to the Port Jeff location before and that was great, so figured we'd try this one. Interior definitely seemed a little more spacious, can't speak to outdoor seating as it wasn't set up yet. The food & drinks here kind of missed the mark for us though. -Chicken Tacos: 2.5/5, skimpy and primarily just the tortilla. The fillings were lacking pretty hard and for the cost it was quite surprising. -Taquitos (Chicken): 3/5, I've definitely had better, and for much cheaper. This was just 3 taquitos cut in half for around $14. They were good but felt a little ripped off. -Steak Burrito: 4/5, this was actually pretty good. Decent amount of steak and was filling. But again close to $20 for a burrito is on the high side for what you got. -Margaritas: 1/5, the margs we got at the Port jeff location were fantastic. These ones though? Some of the worst we'd ever had...anywhere. Served in wine glasses, & tasted zero alcohol. We were going to ask if we were served the wrong thing but the salted rim on both led us to believe they were margs and didn't want to offend them. But these legit tasted like straight up mango juice out of a wine glass. No bueno... Overall, we still like the restaurant in general enough to come back..but it won't be this location again. Popped in for dinner for lunch and we loved it all. Excellent service, extensive food & cocktail menu plus a very nice themed dining area. Started off with the slightly sweet shrimp ceviche served in a perfectly crunchy taco shell with the right chew, crunch & texture. The shrimp ceviche was prefect and delicious, served with slices of avocado, side of plantain chips and chopped tomatoes and onions. We devoured it! My burrito mojado had chewy chunks of perfect medium rare skirt steak, covered in green tomatillo sauce, melted Mexican cheese, crema & guacamole. This was good through every bite. My Sous chef has the Tacos de Puero, pork tacos in soft tortilla that was caramelized chunks of delicious meat. Both plates had the best side of refried beans and Mexican rice that we have had in a long time, the beans had chunks of whole beans and a depth of flavor. bonus was both plates came out piping hot! I had an early dinner here this morning. I am so glad we came here! The paella here is very delicious. The scallops, shrimp, lobster, clams, and mussels were so fresh! They make the guacamole right in front of you. The sweet plantains were soft, sweet and not very oily. They came with a dipping sauce - I think it was a sour cream. It was first time I was ever given a dipping sauce with sweet plantains. It was something different I really enjoyed. The service here is so courteous and phenomenal. Our waitress was so warm and personable. They also had a live mariachi band! We were personally asked if we had a specific song we wanted to request. It was lovely to have someone come over to our table. The coffee here is very good and the tres leches was delicious. After ordering some wings at Croxley's Jay O. And I decided to get an app at another place nearby. This restaurant came up on yelp of course and with good reviews we headed right over. We were surprised by how crowded it was. We took two seats at the bar and reviewed the menu. We decided to order two apps- queso fundido and empanadas mixto. Our waitress Vanessa who was very sweet let us know about the chorizo in the queso and stated that the empanadas comes with a chicken and shrimp sauce on top, different for sure but she said she likes it so we ordered it. The queso came in red sauce. I've ordered it in many Mexican restaurants in the U.S. and in Mexico it never comes in any sauce. While different it was good Jay O. definitely enjoyed it more than I did. The empanadas was delicious! The ground beef in it tasted pasty/mushy texture but good and with the chicken/shrimp sauce on top man really good! I really liked the empanadas here. Went to Margaritas's Cafe in Hauppauge tonight with a group from work. Service was great, food was great. But something else really impressed me. Because we were a party of 6, we had auto-gratuity on the bill, which is pretty standard. I didn't notice so I tipped on top of that. Our server stopped me on my way out and said, you already paid gratuity, you don't have to pay more. She then crossed the extra tip out. I was so impressed with her integrity. Hate to say it, but this just wasn't a good experience. I'm really only giving it the two stars because my husband said his shrimp tacos were ok, and my sister-in-law who picked it seemed to enjoy it. The service was terrible. There wasn't a crowd at all, the place was quite dead and it took foreverrrrrr just for us to get our appetizers. We kept making jokes to each other that maybe we were there too early and the chef hadn't come in yet. At least when the food finally arrived, the apps themselves were okay. Then it took that much longer for the main coarse to come out. Though they warned us the plates were hot, the food itself wasn't hot enough. My brother-in-law and I both had fish dishes and both were WAY too salty. So salty in fact that neither of us ate more than half our dish. In my experience, when fish is too salty it means it's not fresh. My nephew's meat wasn't cooked enough and had to go back to be cooked more. My father-in-law, who really isn't all that picky, said his steak was so-so. Obviously, we didn't stay for dessert. I see that overall this place get decent reviews, but that isn't at all how things went for me and my family. Maybe we went at an off time, or maybe the staff was having an off day, but I didn't like the food, the service and even the location was meh (it's in a bit of a cruddy strip mall). Sad to say that I am underwhelmed by margaritas cafe. First, let's start with the name of the place. You name your restaurant "margaritas cafe" and I expect there to be a diverse array of margs to choose from. Alas, there were an average amount but nothing that stood out to be as innovative or exciting. I ordered my ole faithful, the jalapeño marg. It was inedible . Indrinkable . There were huge chunks of jalapeños that I had to keep spitting into a napkin. It was super unpleasant to get spicy chunks with every sip that I literally could not drink it. I had to...send it back :/ and the bartender informed me that they muddle fresh jalapeños . Maybe she meant to say they mince fresh jalapeños ? Or we literally stick an entire jalapeño in. Whatever she meant to say, it was gross. I opted for a tequila shot , which has now become my new ole faithful. Can't screw that up, right? It was not chilled but I let it slide. Now the food. We tried a few tacos and the steak fajitas. The ground beef comes with peppers and onions already mixed in. I've never seen taco meat like this and it was delicious, tasty, and satisfying. The steak and chicken tacos weren't as good as the meat was pretty dry. They make their own taco shells and you can tell, so that's a nice touch. The steak fajitas were very disappointing. The steak used was terrible. Cut way too thick, too chewy, couldn't eat it in the flour tortillas, had to cut it into tiny pieces before fajitaing it. Plus it had NO flavor :( it was just about the worst steak fajita I've ever had, didn't finish it. I guess I'd give it one more try but pretty much the decor was the best part. The outside area was well demarcated but the restaurant is in the middle of a strip mall so not much in the way of visual interest. Food (1/5): I ordered the shrimp ceviche and pork tacos. The ceviche was unlike anything I've ever had before. It was essentially diced cooked shrimp smothered in cocktail sauce on a bed of shredded lettuce served in a fried tortilla bowl. Flavours were absent and underwhelming. My tacos were slightly better but again the food tasted under-seasoned. The tortilla didn't taste fresh and also kept tearing, which unhelpful. To add insult to injury, the food was not cheap. Service (2/5): Our server rushed over as soon as we had sat down to ask if we knew what we wanted. Unassuming little restaurant tucked away in a corner of mildly busy shopping center. Once you enter, you are taken aback by the vibrant and lively interior with a beautiful bar area. We came here for lunch on a weekday and they had lots of options for lunch specials. Prices were good but the portions, at least what i'm used to in a mexican restaurant, were a bit smaller. I had the chicken burrito and chimichanga combo and i also had a taste of the fish tacos. Burrito and chimichanga had great flavor and the rice and beans were tasty. I was disappointed with the fish tacos which were bland and unseasoned. Other than the fish tacos, everything else including the complimentary chips and salsa and the service were top notch. We waited about 30 mins for our table, but we hang out at the bar where they were giving out samples of margaritas! Stopped in with my mom on a busy Thursday night. Arrived just as the dinner wash was ending, we were seated relatively quickly and service was fast from then on. House margarita was good though a bit too sweet for my taste. Mom had sangria which she enjoyed but I don't remember her ever having a sangria that she didn't enjoy. The first problem is my wife has celiac and Mexican food is always safe, but for some reason , like 90% of the sauces and food has added flour to it for no reason.
