Hadn't been here since the beginning of covid and my review was an enthusiastic 5 stars. Finally got back there tonight and I don't think I'll be going again. It's changed. If this is what people like then ok, but it's not for me. I ordered my usual lamb korma mild but it was too spicy and had no underlying flavor. The other problem was the huge serving. Used to be just the right size for a meal but now it's just another one of those places that value quantity over quality. I enjoyed the lassi and the water. But the food was so spicy my mouth burned and there was too much food. I didn't take any home. My friend disliked it for the same reasons and I was sorry that I had taken her there. Maybe someone will start another Indian restaurant, hopefully. read more

My family and I went to Avon Indian Grill for the Christmas buffet. The staff here are all incredible and very attentive. There was such a variety of foods in the buffet! Each and every item I tasted was absolutely delicious! Each item was made with such care. The spices and seasonings were to perfection! You can absolutely tell that they love what they do, because it shows in the service and the food. The restaurant itself was very clean and the ambiance was very nice. We will absolutely be visiting again very soon! read more

Came to Avon for A rare occasion and st ambled upon this place by accident. It's not flashy outside but quite classy inside. My family don't like spicy food, so the only time I can have Indian food is when I am by my self, I better take advantage of this, LOL. I happen to step in during happy hour so I sit at the bar & ordered Samosa appetizer and a huge beer for half price, nice! The samosa came out shockingly big, bigger than my fists, two of them for $2.5 is incredible deal. It's pretty much mushed potato inside a fried shell, I think my wife would love this if I could convince her to give the Indian a try as she loves mashed potato. The main dish I ordered is lamb curry, my barometer for judging Indian food similar to using pad Thai to judge Thai food. The lamb cam out perfect, very very flavorful in both the meat & the sauce, just terrific! In addition, Ravi, the manager was chatty & full of interesting stories from Nepal, where he came from. Popped in for a late Sunday lunch at the buffet. Lots of variety, first class service, very good quality. I really wish I knew about the food itself to talk about specific items, but I haven't really mastered this sort of cuisine. Everything I tried was tasty. The dessert (looked like munchkins in glaze with a rice pudding like sauce) were phenomenal. For $11 its seems like quite a nice deal. read more

A very classy, NYC style ambience as you walk in and at the far end is the traditional Ganesha statue. Unlike all the other Indian restaurants in the Hartford area, the weekend special buffet here starts from Friday on. I have only been here for the Friday lunch buffet and it is very elaborate. The chat station and the bhel puri that they serve you at the table along with dosa (rice crape stuffed with potatoes) is also different when compared to other restaurants. Over the quality and variety of the lunch buffet is good. This place is worth a visit. I'll come back. read more

Worst food ever. I am not sure how they get so much stars. Just because it is in my neighborhood, I have tried many food even after every food has been disappointing. - went for happy hour, had a chicken appetizer. This place was the best Indian place in New England for years. Then they decided to get experimental, and the food quality suffered- tho the service was always great. Didn't go for about 2 years then I ran into my favorite waiter in a deli nearby and felt guilty, so went back. The food is excellent again, though the service is spotty and my favorite servers were not here. Stopped in tonight to a half full restaurant. Sat for 20 mins after ordering drinks before getting drinks. 1 hr 30 Mins later still waiting for main course. One dish came out and they put it on top of the used appetizer dishes. No clean plates. Still missing the complete order and the restaurant is closing. Looks like it's time for another 2 year hiatus. read more

We have been craving Indian Food lately and so we came across and found Avon Indian Grill - we have been for lunch buffet on Saturday twice now and we have NO regrets. To start, rather than only being limited to Naan, they will ask if you want Naan or Dosa - and I LOVE DOSA! So both the Dosa and Naan (just the basic flavors) are really good - and we love that we can order one, the other or both - which we did both times. Our first visit there we ended up chatting with the owner, super nice guy - and he told us that on Monday's they have AYCE DOSA I think for like $9 - and you can have any of their varieties. Not just the basic one. The food options for the buffet are really good - 2 rice, a couple of vegetarian and a couple of meat (chicken and goat/lamb i believe). There's some yummy deserts too. Everything is labeled so you will know what it all is. We LOVE it here and the buffet price is more than reasonable - I think it's around $12-$13 per person? Loved our experience. So friendly. That's how staff should be. Smile and be friendly. We had bad experiences in Indian restaurants in Manchester so went with a very low experience. But I was shocked by how friendly and well behaved they were. Food was great too. We went 10 minutes before their closing time and they graciously welcomed us in and told us that they will give us 10 mins extra to finish our food. That really made me feel great. They even chatted with us at the end and told us more about the restaurant. Thanks to all staff members. We will definitely go back. read more

What a great find! The authentic dishes from various countries and regions are so delicious. Service with a smile and fun atmosphere.

I will say a couple of things about this place: 1. The Chicken and Lamb Tikka Masala dishes were overly sweet and lacked a complexity that you expect from Indian dishes. 2. Service is not great. The waiters made us feel like we were annoying them that we were there, and were playing on their cell phones at the bar instead of paying attention to patrons. I would describe this place as mediocre and underwhelming. My guess is the reason it's rated well/still in business is because it's the only Indian restaurant in town. read more

We have eaten here twice since the change in ownership. The dining room has been refreshed and the food is excellent. I have had the chicken curry and the Chana masala, and my wife has eaten the chicken tika masala and the lamb tika. The garlic naan was marvelously soft and puffy, perfect for wiping up the excess sauce. They're only using the dinner menu at present and I'm hoping they will introduce a lunch menu soon. I finally was able to persuade my significant other to get Indian food. And wow! What a gem in Avon. Everything we tried was outstanding. The simply named "Fish Fry" appetizer was delicious with a spicy coating and tender fish on the inside. The honey cauliflower appetizer was also a standout. Sweet but not overly so, this is a dish I could eat over and over again. For main dishes, we got one lamb curry and one chicken tikka. Both were perfect. They come with generous portions of rice and we also got some naan too. Service was very friendly and helpful with water glasses refilled without question. And the decor on the inside is surprisingly modern and clean. Overall, this is a knockout. It's Indian food for everyone. Go. Next day update: Opened up our takeout containers and...they mixed up our food with another couple! Well, I suppose it can happen to the best of them but disappointed not to get leftovers. Recently brought a group of 10 seniors here for lunch. Our party included 4 folks who used wheelchairs and a couple who used walkers. Our bus pulled up outside and our waiter came out to hold the door, push chairs and assisted everyone in getting to a comfortable spot in the sleek sunlit dining room. In a few moments we were having beverages, there is a full bar and perusing the menu while Indian music played softly. There was a very diverse menu which included lunch specials that included 4-5 items. One member of our party is from India she helped us with some menu translation. Our party tried a wide variety of dishes and we were all pleased with the choices we'd made. We had everything from Chicken Lollypop and Shrimp Curry to Samosa Chat and Baigan Bharta (spicy roasted and mashed eggplant) and warm fresh naan. Lunch specials included chicken, lamb and shrimp all cooked with the aromatic spices Indian food is known for. There were smiles all around. We were served Mango Lassi as a complimentary first visit welcome which was delightfully sweet and delicious! We'd love to return soon to experience more of Avon Indian Grills' warm hospitality and savory menu. read more

Ravi and his team are top notch! The service is excellent and the decor is refined without feeling the least bit snooty. I sat solo at the bar and Ravi made me feel right at home while engaging me in conversation. He was very considerate when it came to my being vegan. I ordered the samosas which were so good i wound up eating both of them hahaha I had planned on bringing one home for a late night snack ;) For my main course I had the Aloo Gobi which was probably thee best I've ever had! We were famished after a day of art and antiquing with friends and had Indian food on our minds, so when we got back to our friends' house in Simsbury, we ordered it out. We decided on Avon Indian Grill because compared to our recommended first choice Indian restaurant, Avon Indian Grill's rice was sans butter or ghee. Love and I ordered an Aloo Gobi entree and a Baigan Bharta entree as well as an order of Samosas to share. We ordered it all to be delivered. It was delayed and so didn't get to the house until about an hour after we had ordered. At that point is was just warm. In flavor and texture, the Samosas were as expected and good. The Aloo Gobi was a bit dry and not entirely flavorful. The Baigan Bharta was good and had a nice texture, but was less than remarkable, also lacking in the flavor department. We ordered medium spice on both and the heat level was definitely noticeable, but comfortable. I've had better of each dish on several occasions from a variety of Indian restaurants. Though the rice was good, there wasn't enough in our order for my partner and I. We were very hungry, so we finished most of what we had ordered, but left what we hadn't finished at our friends' house. I honestly wouldn't bother with Avon Indian Grill again. read more

We were the only ones in the restaurant and it took a very long time for our order to be taken and then for our food and wine to come out. Service was definitely not as attentive as it could have been. I ordered a dish that I did not realize had dairy in it (not mentioned on menu) until it came with a swirl of cream on top. Being as how I can't have dairy I asked for a different dish. Right before they took the first one away they asked if we wanted to take it to go. We said sure since we didn't want to waste the food and I know someone else in the group would eat it. We got the check and were charged for the food that would have been thrown out and were Also overcharged for our wine. $9 glass was now $12. We were told that's just how it is... what. Food was good but a bit of a scam on the check when you have to pay for food you don't want and an unexpected up charge on wine... read more
