    Burnt CornBread

A full chicken comes with 2 legs, correct? I feel bad for this place. Prime location and they could be killing it. The chicken I ordered, full one, looked like it had been mutilated and wasn't even complete as a chicken. Potato salad was creamy, not good. CornBread was burnt and super small. Just give some decent portions and you will have repeat customers. Super simple food, how do you screw it up??. Not sure how they are surviving but I would put a big bet it's not on their BBQ. Service was nice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance needs an update, doesn't take much. Just a little effort.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] What is going on Los Angeles??!! Away for 8 yrs in the Bay Area and I come back to this?!! Yikes

I feel bad doing this, but I feel like it needs to be done. To preface, I had really good brisket at some place in OC this weekend, so I had high expectations and was hoping to get the same level of satisfaction. I went on Yelp and got excited to find this place. To sum it up: NO. I got the brisket, and it was tough, lacked smoke flavor, and tasted a little old. I was hungry, so I forced myself to eat it since it is food, and the BBQ sauce made it bearable. The positive side... Mac and cheese was ok (3/5), baked beans (2/5), and the employees were friendly.

Horrible place! Ordered rib-20$ ?! It was just a bone, no meat at all! Ask to change a dish- no, asking manager- no. Not recommended

A great little find in Marina Del Rey! They have a bbq menu and a mexican menu, since it was out first time we went with all bbq options. The man at the counter was friendly and said everything was good. The brisket sandwich was very yummy but could use a little more meat for the price. My friend had the beef ribs combo which he said were the best he had ever had, we watched the meat fall off the bone! Will definitely be back to try the mexican options.

Everything was cold and has no flavor and is all burnt and I am very upset on that fact they took over a great texas bbq spot and now are mis representing the original owners name! PLEASE DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE MY DOG WOULDNT EAT IT AND I THROW AWAY EVERYTHING ELSE I took pics just to show case this travesty.

Marco is an amazing Chef ! I had the Beef Brisket, collard greens and cornbread. It was delicious ! I immediately had a flashback of my childhood days, when my dad & mom prepared food for me. The Brisket is tender and flavorful. Your choice of sweet & mild or spicy barbecue sauce. The collard greens are smoky & tasty. The cornbread is moist & sweet. Easily my 3 favorite choices for my Friday dinner. You'll want to try this for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

    The menu. Amazing staff.

Food was amazing! The value per portions was generous. I definitely will be back..I recommend the hamburger or the brisket sandwich..

This place was not good. At least for the BBQ. It was cold the entire order, threw away the cornbread cuz that was cold and extremely dense, the Mac and cheese is watered down and the brisket half a pound was only 3 slices of brisket (that was depressing) deff don't recommend

Haven't had the ribs but they have the best street tacos I've ever had in LA. The chorizo is my favorite and their hot sauce is soooo tasty.

If you've been to a popular BBQ place in the South, you're no stranger to the lines. I've been to APL at two pop-up locations: Ayara Thai in Westchester & Gin Rummy in MDR/Venice. The latter (and current) location, Gin Rummy, has seating, so it's a better experience. Ayara is a Michelin-listed Thai place, but Chef Adam was serving out of the back & there was no seating. So far, Ive tried the burnt ends (9/10), beef ribs (9/10), lamb chops (9/10), and pork ribs (7.5/10). To put this in perspective, I would not score any of these items anywhere else in L.A. higher than a 7/10. Yes, some of the sauce can be overly-sweet, but the craftsmanship that goes into smoking the meat is unparalleled in L.A. And, yes- I have a charcoal smoker at home and make decent brisket and ribs. As other reviewers have mentioned, prices are high, portions are large, and there's almost always a wait, so best to go with a party of 4 or larger so that you can sample more of the menu. And, they should add one more order kiosk and add one more person to cut the meat in order to move the line quicker. I could eat this BBQ every week. Bon Appétit!

The guacamole was perfectly seasoned and they gave you a good size bowl for seven dollars. Most restaurants give you a little scoop and charge $10-15.00 which I find hard to believe. One avocado cost about $1.50 and that's about what most restaurants serve. It's a ripoff at most restaurants. Then I got the Gringo Tacos which were excellent. Everything came out very burnt and crispy. I suspect that is their style of BBQ. It worked for some things and less so for others... My favorite was the tri-tip. It worked well with the char on the outside but the meat still retained its tenderness. It was very flavorful. Some of the wings were good -- crispy on the outside, but other wings were too dry. Same with the ribs. I was initially excited for this, but as I continued eating, found that some of the ribs had really dried out. I thought that the collards worked well with the super charred bacon bits, and the mac and cheese was very creamy. However, the corn bread was a bit dry, which is a shame, because I thought that the cheese might have saved it with a bit more moisture. Overall, I might come back to try different options -- and probably stay with things with the tri-tip, but avoid the other BBQ meats.

My…read moredad hadn't been here so it was a perfect time to give the ribs, brisket and tri-tip a try again. We got the 4 bbq deal that comes with 2 sides. Get the coupon online for $10 off! Ribs were the tastiest. Not overdone and slathered with their signature BBQ sauce. While I'm a dry rub person, the sauce was sugary but ok. The brisket was second and then the tri-tip was alright. Overall the beans and slaw sides and the garlic rolls were probably better than the tri-tip and the portions were so tiny for what you pay. So it is these days.... Though I do recall it feeling the same back on the day when I first tried out HC when they opened. They have a variety of brews on tap and happy hour not for the bbq but the sandwiches if you wanna not break the bank. Lots of salads and sandwich options if you wanted to not focus so much on the BBQ. Dining inside is ok. For a Friday night there weren't many people helping out in the front of house. Staff were friendly and it's got a chill vibe; they've got 2 TVs if you wanted to catch a game. Parking is the free valet kind since the shopping center is packed with eateries with little parking. From someone who's had BBQ from other parts of the country... not sure HC is a must have. But it's not a bad option on the west side that doesn't have much BBQ to write home about.
