Avy's ribs is somewhat new. It replaced another rib joint at the same location. The place is clean and the service is nice. The food was fine. it was not great. They don't put sauce on the ribs etc. when they are cooking them, but they give you sauce on the side. But it is not the same. They could just make ribs in mild, medium or hot. Also their tacos are fine, but no better than a taco truck. I liked this place. The prices were okay, but there is a lot of BBQ out there so I am moving on. On the 4th of July, we were craving BBQ, but every other place had extremely long lines. I decided to try this hole in the wall establishment, but unfortunately, the food was disappointingly subpar. The first order included a beef link, mac and cheese, and greens. The mac and cheese was awful, and we even had to recook the beef link. The second order consisted of a chicken link, potato salad, and baked beans. While the potato salad was good, the baked beans were undercooked and hard, though the barbecue sauce served with them was tasty Even dessert was a failure; the tiramisu was strangely spongy and lacked flavor. While waiting for our order, I observed a man enter from outside. Without washing his hands, he was instructed to go behind the counter and bag our food. A full chicken comes with 2 legs, correct? I feel bad for this place. Prime location and they could be killing it. The chicken I ordered, full one, looked like it had been mutilated and wasn't even complete as a chicken. Potato salad was creamy, not good. CornBread was burnt and super small. Just give some decent portions and you will have repeat customers. Super simple food, how do you screw it up??. Not sure how they are surviving but I would put a big bet it's not on their BBQ. I feel bad doing this, but I feel like it needs to be done. To preface, I had really good brisket at some place in OC this weekend, so I had high expectations and was hoping to get the same level of satisfaction. I went on Yelp and got excited to find this place. To sum it up: NO. I got the brisket, and it was tough, lacked smoke flavor, and tasted a little old. I was hungry, so I forced myself to eat it since it is food, and the BBQ sauce made it bearable. The positive side... A great little find in Marina Del Rey! They have a bbq menu and a mexican menu, since it was out first time we went with all bbq options. The man at the counter was friendly and said everything was good. The brisket sandwich was very yummy but could use a little more meat for the price. My friend had the beef ribs combo which he said were the best he had ever had, we watched the meat fall off the bone! Will definitely be back to try the mexican options. read more

Marco is an amazing Chef ! I had the Beef Brisket, collard greens and cornbread. It was delicious ! I immediately had a flashback of my childhood days, when my dad & mom prepared food for me. This place is very very tiny and I know previously was another rib place the extra condiments Seymour on the Mexican food side when we asked for like extra spicy hot sauce and was not like a regular rib joint type spicy and the meat was just OK really extra salty and the sides were just not edible. ***PLEASE READ*** The Spareribs were generous, meaty looking & was pleasing upon sight. They are served dry with BBQ sauce on the side. The spicy sauce is HOT. Unfortunately the ribs were soooo tough it was impossible to chew. Needed a knife to cut them off the bone & then into pieces. My boyfriend was scared when I choked twice trying to swallow the meat. We got 1/2 Rack Spareribs not Baby Back Ribs. We also got a sliced pound of Brisket. It is sliced so thick like a beef roast with big thick chunks of fat and very tough. Almost tasteless. Please cook your meat longer. Spareribs & Brisket need time to cook. Both are choke hazards. Beans - pinto beans disguised with a smoky flavor not BBQ Potato salad - with big not expected chunks of carrots Cole Slaw - miniscually shredded lettuce & cabbage something on it but dry unable to chew another choke hazard. Nice guy behind the counter but the reviews look fake. I couldn't get my head around the hot dogs instead of links, the sides that were all off and the meat that wasn't smoked properly. Bring in a smoke master and a chef to consult or to teach you how to do it right and you will be making a fortune! Too overpriced for what you are serving. read more

DISAPPOINTING - I am sad to say we still don't have a good barbecue joint in the neighborhood. I saw this place re-opening and I've been watching it for the last few months. I was excited to try it and find a new local bbq spot. Despite the new pitmaster being a very nice guy. I was greatly disappointed with the food! I ordered "pulled pork", Mac & cheese, and baked beans; three staples that every bbq spot should do well. The "pulled pork" was DEEP FRIED!!! (why would you fry meat when you have a giant smoker‍‍‍). On top of that it was soggy, over cooked, and swimming in oil! The mac & cheese was mush and didn't really have much flavor and the baked bean were in so much liquid they were more like bean soup. Even the bread was a dud, it was just short of artificial wonder bread status. I'm glad blue ribbon shut down, because that place was horrible. Sadly this place isn't calling for a repeat visit either... As of today, if you want some consistent quality bbq, head south a few miles and go to Sauce in El Segundo!!! I have a little hope that this place is just having growing pains and they completely reinvent their food, but that hope is a speck of sand. Always on the look out for delicious BBQ and felt like give this little spot a try. Beef ribs, yesssssss!!!! The menu is straightforward: 1 rib, 2 ribs and a rack. I completely took a chance on the rack!! My gamble paid off!!!! I placed my order: rack of beef ribs, side of collard greens ( pork-free ), macaroni and cheese and cornbread. My order, that could easily feed 4 people, was packed and handed to me within minutes!! Now, one could eat there ( small smoke joint ), but I chose to take out. I LOVE these ribs!!!! SUPER tender and delicious!!!! My sides were equally delicious!! Fast friendly service. Reasonable prices. Off street parking ( I charged at a near by Volta and walked there ). The menu also has baby back ribs ( I don't eat pork ) and other things, e.g. links. Sorry, didn't take a pic of the menu; next time. I will definitely go back there when the BBQ bug bites me!! Hesitating between three and four stars, four seems just a bit high but three is definetly too low for what it is. Now, it's definetly no morfia's but it was pretty decent. I got the pulled pork, potato salad, and baked beans. To get the worst out of the way, the beans were just not it, they are edible, and they taste fine, but that's it they're just ok. The flavor on the potato salad was pretty good, but there were huge chunks of potato that made it a bit awkward to eat. Unfortunately they didn't have brisket when I went which was odd, but I got the pulled pork instead and I gotta say it was rather delicious and I really enjoyed it. So happy another BBQ joint opened in this spot. Definitely some of the best BBQ in MDR/PDR/Playa Vista. Will be back to try pie and the rest of the menu! Both the spare ribs & brisket was so juicy tender & full of flavor without BBQ sauce. Super delicious, especially with sauce & all the sides Mac & Cheese, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, & Corn Bread all so tasty! My only note for the coleslaw was that it needed more dressing, but the coleslaw itself was very fresh & hearty. For the price, quality & amount of food you get, this is probably one of the best meals you can get in the area. Now I don't have to drive to Inglewood to get legit smoked bbq. Service was really fast too & the guy working the counter was also very friendly. We just ordered some delicious barbecue from here for the first time. We got a full rack of beef ribs with three sides, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, baked beans. The ribs and all the sides were delicious! The barbecue sauce, taste, homemade, and has a nice subtle kick. The place looks fresh and clean and the gentleman I met. Seems like a really nice guy. Highly recommend you give this a little barbecue spot a try! It's smoky, delicious heaven. The ribs just melted in our mouths.
