Love this place and usually work in a visit when in Dallas. I like the atmosphere and the servers' friendliness. Located on a small plaza, there is ample parking. I had the Crab Cake Benedict because what is not to love about crab cakes, tomatoes, Hollandaise sauce, and poached eggs. Interesting combination of flavors and textures. Very good according to my tummy. My chosen side was unfortunately grits: runny and no flavor. My guess is they were of the instant variety. Adding some butter, salt, and pepper helps the taste but they are still swimming in too much liquid. My wife went with the traditional Benedict with the seasoned ranch potatoes. The entrée was very well prepared and full of flavor. On the other hand, the potatoes were not fully cooked. Some pieces were nicely golden brown and appropriately soft on the inside but most were very close to raw. I mentioned this to our server and she said we should have specified crunchy. What? The Egg-ceptional Omelette (first picture) looks basic but is very hearty and pairs well with the seasoned breakfast potatoes (substituted for no charge) and English muffins, which were TOASTED and yum. Update: The Egg & I did communicate with me, did offer to invite us back with a complimentary meal, but the last three visits were not pleasant. So we turned them down. We are simply done, sorry guys, but thanks for having a good customer service department. Yes two stars, the food is usually pretty decent, the service is OK, but, when you try to pass of Salty Chicken Stock Gravy like you would put into a pot pie, I draw the line. I am Southern, I am not a fan of chicken gravy on anything but chicken, even then not so salty you can't eat it. I want real cream gravy sausage, not some cheap imitation low grade slat cream. You sit down in the south and you order Biscuits and Sausage Gravy you expect a Cream Gravy made with at minimum, Milk, Flour and Sausage... MAYBE a touch of corn starch as a thickener. NOT Pot Pie Filler Stock with Flour and Sausage. It is disgusting. Now I have been... correction I was a fan of the Egg and I for the last several years. Eating their with my date(s) or whomever for breakfast. There was a time when they had really good cream gravy. But over the last year I guess, they have had this disgusting salty chicken stock sauce with sausage. I was tole originally that they ran our of the cream gravy, and their truck wasn't due in until later in the week the first item... OK, but still sent that back. Then again, the cook had made it rather than the cream gravy, still sent that back. Then Again with the running out, and I even asked when it would be a good time to gt there to get ';real gravy for my biscuits', yeah, truck needed to come in etc. This last time, I made sure to ask the waitress (who all but totally ignored us the whole time), to please check on the gravy BEFORE I got it. If it was Chicken Stock based I DID NOT WANT IT. She went back there, 15 minutes later she came out, stopped by said it was cream gravy. Then a minute later our order was on the table. Guess what color the gravy was? URINE YELLOW, It was chicken stock gravy. I complained to the manager about it, he was just the polite side of curt, and his expression was one of 'OMFG WHO CARES.' He literally rolled his eyes as he walked away from the table, mumbling something. My partner and I finished our meal, WITHOUT the CHICKEN LARD AND BISCUITS, then she and I paid and left. I will not be going back. I feel they intentionally lied to us as customers, they showed little or no concern for our dislike of the 'new' food items and we both felt totally unwelcome after the managers eye and facial expressions. read more

I had the Huevos Rancheros. They were ok. Nothing spectacular. They had juice, like First Watch. I think I like the ones at First Watch better. But don't let them sit you near the planter. There were ants coming out of that thing. It was so gross. If we had seen that before, we would have left immediately. But it was only after we were nearly finished and about to ask for the check, that we saw them. We ended up killing around 10 of them before we could get our check. Ugh! I must admit that I didnt have high expectations. When I drove up, I noticed that the place was situated inside of a shopping center and there was a bit of construction going on as well. So i must admit that the curbside appeal wasnt there. This has absolutely nothing to do with how the food could possibly taste. I'm just simply mentioning my first impressions. However I will say this... from being used to brunching in uptown, I was grateful for free and ample parking this time around LOL. We were a party of seven and had reservations by noon. We were seated promptly and given menus. Of course, I had already took a look at the menu beforehand. I decided on the Vive La France French toast. I got the breakfast potatoes instead of eggs. I also got sausage. Our food came out in a timely manner and our waiter, Diego was did a good job. I will post a picture in the gallery but let me tell you that my two slices of French toast were huge. I was pleasantly surprised with the overall portion of not only my plate but everyone else's at the table. Everything was delicious and exceeded my expectation. Also the price point for the food was excellent. I was a little disappointed that they did not serve mimosas, but I understand that this is not that type of establishment. However when I hear the words brunch, mimosas definitely come to mind. Our waitress was super sweet, she said she usually works in the kitchen so she wasn't used to waitressing but she did an awesome job by being attentive and making us feel comfortable. Met a friend for breakfast this morning at Awake (formerly The Egg and I), and upon arriving found that this restaurant was not adhering to Covid-19 guidelines, by being 100% occupied, with a waiting time. Customer were waiting in an area without 6 ft distance guidelines and customers were seated at every table. We decided to leave and informed the manager that he was not complying with Covid-19 guidelines. He said the he didn't care and that it was up to the customers whether they wanted to come to his restaurant. The manager did not have on a proper mask and there were people walking around the restaurant without masks. I realize it is up to the individual as to whether they want to patronize a restaurant or , but this restaurant is proudly flaunting the fact that they are breaking the law ,by not being Covid-19 compliant. I am sad to write this review, as this was one of my favorite restaurants pre-Covid, when it was The Egg & I. read more

Got food to-go. Said over the phone that it would be ready in 10 mins. Got there 12 mins later and had to wait an additional 15 for the food to be ready. The place was nearly empty. Brought my food home (3 mins away) and the egg scramble was very oily and sloppy. The ingredients were just thrown together and there was no cheese like I asked for. The flavor was not good at all. Let me start by saying feta cheese + eggs is a heavenly combination. I had a most delicious mediterranean omelette that had feta plus sundried tomatoes, artichokes, and I don't quite remember what else but that thing was packed full of yummy goodness!! Also, iced tea comes in a carafe! I came here with my cousin, aunt, and uncle a week or two ago and it was the perfect middle ground choice between Dallas and Frisco. Wasn't tooo crowded either, but I went ahead and put my name on the call ahead list, so we were seated shortly after our arrival. Service was good but two weird things I noticed were 1) ice spilled by one of the waiters on the carpet was there a WHILE before it was cleaned up, one of the (many) older patrons might have slipped and 2) the waiter didn't really ever stop by to refill water glasses. He came by to check on us and asked us if there was anything we needed, but didn't pick up on the empty glasses. If you like eggs, this is your place. But if you don't, you'll be set too. We went here for a family breakfast one weekend -- there were probably 8 of us. I called ahead to make sure we'd get seated, and they were SO NICE about it. I mean, they thanked ME for calling ahead. That was definitely icing on the cake. We got there and they had a table all ready for us - our waiter was Sicilian, which we had to inquire about later on, because we couldn't pick out his accent. He was very friendly, but decided that by asking his nationality, we were also asking for a history of the country. And he went into detail about Sicily and its people. Which was a little awkward. He was sweet, though. Maybe a little over the top, but very nice. And very knowledgeable. I had the Greek Fritatta, and it was outta sight. I ordered the Taos skillet yesterday for breakfast with 2 poached eggs. Diced potatoes and chicken covered in corn, black beans, salsa, guac, cheese and sour cream with two runny eggs on top? Yes, please. However, there was an uninvited guest. A little bit of shell was mixed in to the meal. I didn't mind. . .it's just freaking shell and a small bit at that, so I picked out the offending pieces and continued to feast. When the server came to clear our plates I made a passing comment about the shell. This is how customer service is done, so take notes (especially YOU, BJ's Brewhouse). The waitress immediately ran to get the manager. He grabbed the plate and told me he would have a fresh one brought out and my meal would be comped. I had eaten 95% of the meal and not only did they want to comp me, BUT also give me a completely new meal! I said no to the extra plate but still got the meal for free. Cute indeed! I liked the feeling of this restaurant. Went on a Sunday around 9, and surprise! No wait. I guess we were a bit early. Yay for us. We were seated immediately and I ordered the Hiker's benedict. That 2 poached eggs on 2 english muffins halves with diced ham, asparagus, mushrooms, (tomatoes if you want, the server told me they were raw, so I passed) with dill hollandaise sauce and topped with 2 slices of bacon. This was a GORGEOUS presentation. All the colors and fresh looking veggies, the table next to us was looking over and when I made eye contact they told me they had food envy and asked what I ordered. I win! These were served in a skillet on a plate, and the plate had potatoes. I'm a sucker for breakfast potatoes, but these left a lot to be desired. Greasy, and floppy, bluh. I want crispy magic. Sad. The benedict was really good though. And that bacon on top was crisp/tender/chewy, and very much perfect. My friend had the wisconsin scramble that just looked like really cheesy, fluffy, uh, scrambled eggs. Not really my cup of tea. He got a side of that perfect bacon, some toast and the potatoes, but his looked somewhat better than my spuds. All in all, a winner in my book.
