Cold rainy night and I chose to sit in the bar area, by the door. I was freezing. Nice little place. Great friendly staff. Went in specifically for the fish and chips. They delivered! Cod surrounded by Crispy flavorful batter, fries and slaw. Not sure if the slaw had any type of dressing on it. I tasted it but usually don't eat the slaw. Fries were fresh and crispy. The tartar sauce was amazing. Not your regular sauce. I cannot remember what else was in it but it was so good. I used it for my fries. We wanted to really eat here, so we stayed. The next thing that sucked was they were out of lumpia, so we opted for the coconut shrimp appetizer instead. I saw different beer and cider menu items online, and I got excited to try some, but maybe it was the menu we were handed or because we weren't close to the bar that we didn't get the full list of beers and ciders. Never got the side sauce requested. Needed protein so ate the meat. Let our server know it wasn't great but insisted on no discount -- we ate it so we're happy to pay for it. Had a whiskey soda and it was $12. Fine but would have felt better at $10. Might have a drink there but will never eat the food again. read more

Had a flavor I couldn't quite put my finger on. It was slightly tangy. I asked about it and the wait staff said that they ran out of their usual lemon garlic vinaigrette so they substituted avocado poblano cream. It was really good and told them they should do it permanently. I enjoyed my wait staff. I came in on July 3rd at 8:30p. There were two, apparently the young man was experiencing his first day on the job and was teamed up with a young lady (don't know her name but she has long eye lash extensions). She was very nice and pleasant and I appreciated her service. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. I've been to Axe & Arrow several times, but lately they've been extremely hit or miss in terms of the food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere and front of house staff have all been great, but the kitchen is about 50/50 at best.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Sometimes the food is fine, but other times several menu items have been either unavailable or absurdly undercooked. I ordered the prime rib a few weeks ago, medium rare, and it came out literally room temperature and barely cooked at all. Then a few weeks later I came back and ordered the New York steak, again medium rare, and it was lukewarm and bloody. I suspect there's one person in the kitchen who doesn't know or doesn't care about how to cook food, and it's total luck of the draw if they're working when you arrive. If it just been a single incident I'd be happy to overlook it -- sh!t happens -- but it has become a clear pattern. Plenty of other places in Kitsap do a decent steak and prime rib, and I'll be patronizing them until Axe & Arrow gets its act together. read more

I realized I never updated my review, after giving this place a couple more chances. The wagyu burger is excellent with every flavor of each component mixing perfectly together. I have had it several times and it's consistently delicious and perfectly cooked. I've tried several appetizers and although I love the crab cakes there should be one more for the price. They are small. I love their whiskey sours complete with foam top. Best place in kitsap for both a whiskey sour done right and a burger done better. I was charged more than the price on the menu but when I brought it up, the response from the waitress was yes, the prices are wrong but the manager wouldn't honor the written price. She added that new menus were going to be ordered. Its obviously not acceptable for a business to charge more than their menu prices when they don't disclose it, but most people likely don;t notice. It's right across the street from Marriott Fairfield Inn where most contractors and DOD civilians stay when working at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. 4 stars for the convenience and quality.
