Alexrad had a nice variety of beer and other alcoholic beverages. There is the pizza paroe right outside the doors as well if you get hungry. Axelrad normally has at least one food vendor inside the beer garten. Today they had a burger stand and someone selling crawfish. There are hammocks and lots of table space. On certain nights there is a live band on the outside stage. There is also a sitting area on top of the building. Its a nice view at night when the fluorescent lights are on. read more

This is my favorite outdoor dog friendly bar. It's spacious and has a ton of things going on. I love the Mexican pizza from Luigi's Pizzeria but also end up eating from the various rotating pop ups and food trucks they have. They really support local here! I recommend parking on the street vs trying to even pull into their parking lot as you will most likely not find one and could get stuck behind those that are also trying. Completely understand why this is one of the most popular spots for Houston nightlife. From the entrance through a former house, to the multiple hammocks outside, the general ambiance- Axelrad has so much to offer. The major drawback is that due to its popularity it can be very busy and the line for the bar can get long at peak hours. That being said, the bartenders did their best to keep the line moving and mingling is part of the experience anyways. Depending on the day of the week there is everything from an open mic to live music on the weekends. The live music and vibe are less clubbing and more lounge with your friends and relax. You can also avail yourself of the food trucks that rotate through or the pizza joint in the back. Parking can be found on the various streets and lots surrounding the location. Would absolutely recommend as a top choice for Houston nightlife for anyone looking for a laidback experience and plan to visit again. read more

I went here after work to unwind and I can say that it was quite an experience. The no shrub drink was quite refreshing and the hammock I sat in brought joy to my life. It was so comfortable to just swing and drink without any worries. There were vendors selling item that you could purchase and an added jazz band playing live music. I was able to drift away my work stress while swinging and enjoying my drink. The service of ordering a drink was unique, there were no lines they wanted you to just approach to order. Parking is extremely limited to the parking lot, you will be better off finding street parking. This is a great place to visit and relax after a stressful day. A little hard to find if you haven't been here. I didn't see any signage and parked somewhere where I thought was the back but it's to a place called Prospect. Hope I don't get towed. They have a huge yard area with hammocks and warming lamps. A good selection of beer and they serve liquor too. Since it's cold today I decided to try their apple cider. It has whiskey and it's good at warming you up. There's also a little food stand outdoors along with an RV looking thing where you can have beer. We went for Sunday Funday and although when we got there it was pretty quiet and empty by the time we left it became pretty packed when the group The Vanguard Collective started setting up, man we're they good. They don't have food themselves, but Luigi's pizza shares a beer garden with them and they usually have a food truck! Overall fun experience! I would give this place a 3.5 stars if I could. Solid 3.5 stars. but unfortunately the parking situation is non existent, there is only really outdoor seating, and the bar situation is terrible. There is no real line for drinks, but the line is still huge. They have the smallest bar inside, for the most amount of people I've ever seen waiting for a drink. For sure uber, and just get two drinks when you finally make it up to the bar. Once your done with the second drink, you should be next in line to order again. read more

Axelrad provided everyone with poncho, so we can still enjoy the live music outside. Parking is a bit limited. There's a small lot in the front or street parking nearby. You must have an ID to go in. I believe it's 21 of age. Apparently it doesn't matter if you look older than 21, an ID is a-must to get their entrance wristband. There are frequent food trucks and nearby food joints for your food options. Their ginger beer which is nonalcoholic is a good choice if you don't drink. The taste is richer than the ones you get from a can. You can order drinks inside. There are a few seatings with TVs. It gets crowded when there is a game on. Outside, there are various type of hammocks from singles to the ones where you can lay down. Careful on some hammocks because they might be broken. It's best to not sit more than 2 people on one hammock. Love the chill vibe here with the vibrant lights strung everywhere. read more

There is also an awesome pizza spot connected to it, so I would definitely recommend that. It does close earlier than Axelrad though, so I would beware of that. There is a reasonable amount of parking, along with street parking offered. It is also dog friendly. It is also 21+ after 8 pm, so keep note of that. Originally our plan for our last day in Houston was to go to Buffalo Bayou Park for a walk and check out the city skyline view, but unfortunately, that day had some music festival running that weekend, so the park was pretty much closed off. Parking is all street parking unless you want to park in a parking lot for a fee across the street. We had found a spot in the small park so that's where we went. They check your ID as soon as you walk in and give you a wristband. Otherwise, without ID or underaged, you get a X marked on the back of your hands. We had a friend who didn't have her ID but didn't plan to drink anyway get marked. HAHA ! Avery Lilikoi Kepolo beer was the one I got. There was a few others that sounded interesting but the bartender said this was one of her favorites so I went with that. Very bright yellow color. Not that bitter. Quite refreshing actually xD The cool thing about this beer garden is their outside area. Very chill "backyard" style layout. They have a lot of hanging hammocks on one side for people to sit/lay in as well as tables/chairs in the area next over. Luigi's Pizzeria is also on site as well as another food truck (forgot what they had, maybe tacos?) Saw a lot of people order whole pizzas to share with their party's. It wasn't too busy on the Sunday afternoon we went but it was the warmest day of the few days we were there. I had wished there was some sort of cover over the hammocks. It felt amazing when there was some cloud cover but got pretty hot when the sun was blaring its rays onto us. Would be a nice place to chill on a cooler day. I don't mind being outside but coming from a city that was cold, the extra warmth was a bit un-used to. XD read more

First time here after hours. While this venue is small, there is plenty of seating outside. Here you find tables, chairs, swings and nice shaded areas, everyone will find their place. What I especially enjoyed seeing Houston's diversity and age ranges, all hanging out and enjoying the live band (VODI). The sound was great and you felt part of the scene no matter where you sat. There were lines at the bar but it moved quickly. There is water stations around the propert as well. During the day, it's a nice place to hang out with the family but afer 8pm, it's 21 and up venue. Great spot, near my old neighborhood and HCC Central campus, to grab some brews and just chill in a backyard-like setting. The selections of beers (especially local ones) is pretty vast. You can grab specialty mixed concoctions, if your heart desires that. The "yard" has all sorts of seating. You can choose a full hammock, a sitting hammock, high chairs at the high pub table, typical chairs for typical tables, benches, etc. They have an inside bar, outside bar, and a small mobile trailer in the yard that works as an additional bar, so you're never without a way to refill your glass. There seem to be more pups than kids running around and I see that they have a projector and a stage. We'll have to come back and check it out when there is something going on, at dusk. read more

This is one of my favorite spots in Midtown - away from the noise of the regular midtown bars, you feel like you may actually have found your way to Austin. It is a large beer garden with interesting beers on tap, hammocks, picnic tables, and board games. It is just overall chill. It doesn't directly serve food, but there is typically a food truck or two, and it is connected to Luigi's pizzeria. Luigi's will actually deliver your pizza to axelrad's picnic table, so you can enjoy your craft brew with a delicious slice! During the days, it is kid friendly, and there are often family reunions. Okay, now that I've got your attention: I held an event here a few weeks ago and was so impressed with the team I worked with that I'm planning on hosting another event here next year. They reserved two tables for me and provided me with drink tickets (each set at a predetermined value) and ensured that their bartenders were prepared for our party. They had a few specialized drinks and a variety of beers. What I appreciated was that they allowed you the opportunity to sample a drink of interest before purchasing which was helpful. I tried this festive little drink (I think it was a mango margarita) with a chile rim...so chili style mangorita?) and it was fabulous. I definitely plan on returning to swing in the hammocks and play with all the dogs in the park (yes, I should have mentioned that it also moonlights as a dog park). Went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was 90% empty. Was able to find outside seating without a problem. Their non-alcoholic options were limited and had only one beer on the happy hour special. It was $3 and my friends said they enjoyed it. It's attached to a pizza parlor through the courtyard so you can get your drink then go grab your food. The set up to get in is really confusing though. We parked in the back and walked around at least once to try to figure out the entrance. I thought the experience was just average. Maybe it's better during the weekend. read more
