I moved to Punedale a year ago and have been looking for good restaurants in the area. On a whim me and my kids decided to order from Ay Caramba. We all got burritos. We were all pleasantly surprised. The burritos were some of the best I've had. I usually get the Carnitas Burrito With the whole works. The tortillas are really good. The filling has a really good combination of textures and flavors. These are really filling. The first time my son and I have had a hard time eating the whole burrito! Definitely a hidden gem! I've always loved it -- their shrimp and ribeye tacos are yummy. I took a friend visiting from San Diego (forgetting how good their Mexican food is) and got nervous he wouldn't like it as much once there. We ordered enchiladas and they were mediocre at best. The rice was tasteless, the enchiladas were pretty small, they were wrapped in the smaller sized flour tortillas. The chicken tasted ok but not extraordinary. The horchata was really tasty. Not too sweet or watery, a perfect combination of rice powder and cinnamon that comes in a huge glass jar. With all the great reviews I decided to try this place out with high hopes. I was so let down by this restaurant sadly. I went on a random day of the week after work. The place was not busy (maybe 3 tables at the tail end of their dinner) but it took us about 10 min to get our drinks. I ordered the enchiladas and although they looked promising they were bland and tasteless. To say I only finished one of the 3 plated, only things good was the rice as my side only downfall was that it's a small portion. Same can be said for the beans on the side. My friend got the molcajete and even though it was better than my enchiladas I wouldn't get it again. The only good thing o can say are the churros. They came out warm and very nicely presented. I wouldn't return here unless it was to get some churros to go. Overall it does not taste authentic. read more

Ordered a shrimp burrito the other day, a good friend of mine ordered tacos with some type of steak meat (can't remember exactly what kind they were), The burrito was AMAZING!!! This was excellent. The host at the door was so welcoming. He gave us a choice of where we wanted to sit. Our waitress, Vickie, was amazing and friendly. She asked our names so she could remember us. I had a breakfast burrito for dinner. Delicious!! Fresh tortillas! Everyone else said their food was great as well (chicken super burrito, pork super burrito and chicken enchiladas). This is a fairly small place and the dishes are packed with flavor. The chips are fresh and that is a good sign of attention to detail. The lengua burrito was tender and juicy and the carne asada nachos were meticulously made. Ordered a bunch of Molcajetes and sopes to-go for a family of nine and Ay Caramba did not disappoint! The staff was excellent in receiving our order and seeing to it that we got everything that we wanted. We used their phone app to see the online menu and they placed everything in an easy to hold crate which was nice for transporting everything. Even though it was a to-go order they made it special by helping us take everything to our truck. When we showed up they still offered us refreshments which was great! I sat at the bar and Louis helped me and was so knowledgeable and a great salesperson!! Second time I ordered for pick up ( not sure if that is why my experience was different) I was extremely unhappy with the flavor of my food. I got the enchiladas Rojas with mixed chicken and cheese. The molcajete platter is out of this world good and worth a trip on its own! The homemade tortillas - wow! They were accommodating for a plain cheese quesadilla with side of beans and rice for my youngest who is a picky eater and he loved it! Very nice decor. Made a reservation for Valentine's Day for 5:30. When we go here at 5:25 I told the young man (server) we had a reservation. He seated us. 15 minutes later the restaurant called me reminding me we had a reservation. I told the caller we were here sitting in the corner waiting for our meal. When the food arrived it looked very dry and was it ever. Evidently which we appreciated is that every dish is made to order. The chicken in the enchiladas was so hard along with a dry tortilla we could barely cut into them with a knife. The server came back about 10 minutes later to deliver the already cold rice and beans. . Came here for what I thought would be a quick pit stop/take out. While the order took longer than expected the reason was clear. They make bomb made to order Mexican food. I had a super burrito with the most tender marinated arrachera steak ever. Literally the tortilla and meat combo melted in my mouth. We also ordered a Sopes which apparently was really good too. But I didn't try it. Why ruin the good thing I had going. The only thing that should be called out is this place is more sports bar vs. traditional taqueria and the wait will be longer because they take their time making the food great. Difficult website, but really good food! This was my first online order and I found the website very unfriendly and difficult to use. Yes, I got through it but I'm an IT professional. I suspect many would give up before completing an order. My order was almost ready when I arrived at the requested pick-up time. There were a lot of staff just hanging around in the restaurant with seemingly nothing to do and not much initiative. It was 5p so maybe they were getting ready for the dinner rush. The interaction at the register was interesting as there was obviously some animosity between the young lady who helped me and another young lady standing at the register who refused a request to help with my order. However, the food was very good. We had chicken fajitas(4.5*), chicken enchiladas(4*) with green sauce, and cheese enchiladas(4*) with a red sauce. I'm fairly particular about chicken fajitas and I would rate theirs a 4.5 out of 5. The flour tortillas were small and a bit dry but still tasty. Bottom line I will consider them in the future when I have a hankering for some good Mexican food. read more
