    Cuban Sandwich

The Cuban sandwich and Yuca fries are delicious and plentiful! I highly recommend this restaurant. I can't wait to try their other dishes.

Stopped by to get a burrito for my dad after an appointment at the DMV. Customer service was friendly, lots of parking and indoor seating. They are famous for their grilled chicken, there was smoke everywhere and smelled good. Will try it next time .... The carne asada burrito I got was good. Flavorful and filling. Came with two kinds of sauces. I noticed they have bbq ribs, meats, burgers, quesadillas etc..... it's a good spot to order food to go

Hate to say this, but I'm done!** It's small things like this that just ruin it for me. I've been eating at Ay Papa's for years--for the last five, I've been hooked on their carne asada burrito, which has always been grilled. But over the past year, half the time it's not, and it's just not the same. Today, I specifically asked them to **please** make sure it was grilled, yet--no surprise--it wasn't. ‍ I didn't bother sending it back because I don't trust that they'd remake it with care. So I took one bite, left the rest with my full Coke, and walked out. Feels like throwing money away--I should've given it to someone in need, but I'd rather leave it there to make them wonder what went wrong. They don't seem to check their Yelp reviews, and I don't get why they wouldn't prioritize keeping their customers happy.

The service at this location is outstanding. All the locations have good service, but the older gentleman who works there spoke to me only in Spanish is a keeper. His hospitality is unmatched in the Valley. I would eat there just for him. I felt like I was in another country or a guest in someone's home. Whenever I pass by Ay Papa Que Rico and I feel like I could eat, I will stop by. They specialize in pollo al carbon (grilled chicken or whole rotisserie chicken) and Cuban food, but I also enjoy the Salvadoran pupusas on their menu. This is one of the San Fernando Valley essential restaurants to try with multiple locations to choose from. If you're looking for Cuban baked goods, try their location in Canoga Park.

Love love love ay papa que Rico! I appreciate that they have outdoor seating. Their grilled chicken is the bomb and you can't go wrong eating this. I usually order the black beans and rice with the chicken order and ask for the tortillas to be extra crispy. The service here is always great. The ladies here are always so sweet. I also order the ribs and the ensalada de frutas is so delicious. They also do catering

This place is as good as it smells when your drive by Staff was friendly, answered every question I had , as you wait for your food there is a worker that brings you chips with salsa and the salsa is really good, little spicy but lots of flavor. Prices are very reasonable, for the amount of food that they serve Now the food is delicious, I ordered the Cuban sandwich and it has tons of flavor however the way they roast the bread is delicious , amazing great flavor just enough crunch. One sandwich is shareable!!! Will definitely be coming back to try more of their menu, highly recommended

This was the half a chicken along with black beans and rice so good

Well, I gotta say it's been a long time since I've been to this place. I truly do miss the original spot that was here. I'm sure if you're local from Arleta, you will remember Shoestring, but anyways that's long gone. I gotta say the spot here has taken over and it is amazing how they recommend the grilled chicken along with other things as well. Their whole menu is outstanding. The service is great. They got a sweet old lady going around cleaning up after tables. Very, very sweet, asking if we need anything; definitely recommend this spot. The ambience to eat there is great, super chill.

The restaurant is in a strip mall, next to a barber shop. The woman behind the counter was so friendly and helpful that I was genuinely concerned about the quality of the food. Typically in a Jamaican restaurant, the ruder the service, the better the food is. This spot is the happy exception to the rule. The food was EXCELLENT. I asked for a recommendation for their best menu option and she suggested their fried chicken and maaaaaannnnnn, I think about that chicken like white dudes think about the Roman Empire. I'm actively trying to come up with reasons to take the long drive back to Chatsworth to try more of their menu. If you're ever in the area, this is worth a visit.

Stopped by this restaurant towards the end of the day on a a Saturday…read more Experience: since I'm not local, I called first to make sure they had oxtails and jerk chicken. The gentleman who answered, was dry and quick. Damn near hung the phone up in my face to get off the phone so fast. Upon arrival, said gentleman was sitting at one of the dining tables. It was empty inside of customers. I greeted him with an excited smile and he softened his disposition. Now, if you know Jamaicans, being fair I wasn't overly surprised at his stoicism and seriousness. The restaurant: There was only the remaining patties in the display case. Outside of that, a pretty empty place. Doesn't look like a bustling and meticulously decorated restaurant. It's cold and cafeteria like. There's no smell of deliciousness in the air and again nothing to see. No pictures of the food, nothing. Even the kitchen was so clean and closed down, it looks like the food is prepared elsewhere and brought in. Service: the gentleman wasn't rude. He just didn't offer any advise, ask any questions.. nothing. But as I was waiting on my plate, another young lady walked in. She called in as well and received the same dry and quick energy when she called. But when she walked into the establishment, clearly she's a regular. He lit up like a Xmas tree. She was such a pleasant and beautifully spirited woman, she gave her opinion of the gold (she said it was good). The food: Reminder, I was basically going off of the pictures on Yelp. My boyfriend talking about if the Mac n cheese looks good get him some. My response, I can't see a dang thing! The regular customer was surprised they had Mac n cheese (mind you). I ordered a large Oxtail plate. Wasn't asked about sides at all. Basically giving I'm getting what he's got. And I ordered a large jerk chicken plate. When the gentleman began bagging up my food, before he tied it up, when I saw him try and give me (1) small ahss thing of jerk sauce.. I had to stop him to look before he tied it up. Sure enough, chicken dry as hell. For dang near half a chicken with some dry rice and peas (1) jerk sauce?? At the price point of each plate (over $25) . I ask for more sauce, I said, if I bring this home to my boyfriend he's going to have a fit! He gave me one more. I insisted another and he was getting ready to deny it, but ok told him I'll pay for it. I said there's no way my BF is eating that dry. I was so caught up in making sure the jerk was right, I didn't peep everything else too deep. I bought (2) patties as well (beef). $70 to feed (2) with large plates and a patty. The Oxtails: small oxtails, a good portion. They were ok. Some pieces were a little tough and dry, let me know this was definitely the bottom of the pot. Had they had Mac n cheese (they were out) I would have opted for that over rice and peas. Only because most places don't do it right. Again, it's end of the day.. Both my plates definitely got the burnt bottom. My boyfriend had more of the crispy parts than I. But definitely dry and sitting. BUT not bad actually. I threw some of this Carribean hot sauce I have on it, turned it up. The oxtails: 6.5/10, The cabbage a total NO (0/10) . The beef patty: 9/10 (good ). The rice and peas: 6.5/10 The jerk chicken... as a disclaimer, Jamaica is my choice vacation spot, jerk being a staple upon visits. So my idea of what jerk should taste and look like is high. Do not expect your chicken to come to you already sauced. It's dry, like it's straight off the grill. The chicken was tender, and had a really good flavor. Without the jerk sauce. Now does it give me that taste the grills in Jamaica give the chicken. No. Being fair, it has a really good Smokey grill to it. IF you have your own jerk sauce use it. The sauce they provide the texture wasn't saucy more like applesauce texture. It wasn't spicy and just not jerkie. The jerk: 7.5/10 Last, I was irritated I didn't pay attention. The menu I could have swore said , festivals come with the plates. Instead we were given (1) plantain each. That had me hot. Overall: 6.5/10

I honestly wish I had ordered more than two. The fresh juices were also a standout; the Pineapple Ginger and Hibiscus were both spot on. Even the imported ginger beer from Kingston was really good. The jerk wings were absolutely delicious, and those small bread rolls (similar to cornbread muffins) were super tasty. The peas and rice and the plantains were also on point. Now for the downsides, the oxtails were disappointing. They weren't very meaty, and at $35 a plate, I expected more than mostly bones. I did get one decent piece, but overall it didn't feel worth the price. The vegetables were also bland. Dessert was another letdown. The sweet potato pie wasn't sweet enough and had an overpowering nutmeg flavor. The cobbler was undercooked, the crust was raw and inedible, and the peaches tasted like they came straight from a can. Overall, a mixed experience, but I'd still come back for the patties, wings, and fresh juices.

I had never had actual Jamaican food (only like Jerk style stuff so not authentic) so I was also pretty excited. We all three tried the wings and I also had the jerk mac n' cheese. I don't even think I can call them wings, they were so unbelievably tender, they slid off the bone like a braised short rib! I couldn't even pick them up because they were falling off so neatly. The flavor was incredible and I kept mixing them in with my Mac which was also delightful. The noodles were tender and relatively thick, with the perfect sauce. I didn't find the spice to be unreasonable! If you're very sensitive just know that, but I have pretty high spice tolerance and they didn't really linger much for me. They were just very flavorful. I would also mention that the flavor was great and I didn't find the jerk seasoning to be very salty! So for someone watching salt intake I found them to be mild in that regard. Since this is my first foray into it I'm not sure if this is standard or not but I do think a lot of people will really like that aspect! We were helped by an extremely friendly gentleman whose name I unfortunately didn't get, and then Yvonne who is the absolute sweetest! She was very helpful when I asked her opinions on the menu, and just has this aura of absolute joy which I don't see very often. I'd honestly come back just for her (and also probably to try the plantains because those also looked heavenly). The location is in a little strip kind of location next to a few other businesses and it's very unassuming! I loved the bright colors, and the small parking lot was pretty easy to get in to. The vibe is pretty casual and with a lot of fun things to look at. I'm not this deep in the valley almost ever, but I can honestly say I would take the trek this direction again for this spot alone!

While the rice and beans were a bit too wet, the plantains and cabbage were great. I would have preferred some hot sauce and fluffier rice, but overall it was a solid meal.
