My boyfriend and I discovered this place while heading towards a bbq joint near by. The delicious charbroiled chicken smell made us very curious as to what the food might taste like here. We both love a good charbroiled chicken, so we decided to check this place out. We went around 4 pm in the afternoon, and it was fairly empty. There's a cute and spacious seating area with fans, but we decided to take the food to go. There's a counter area where you can see the menu and place your order. We decided to order the whole chicken combo, which came with Mexican rice, beans, fresh corn tortillas, and some delicious green and red sauces as well. It was a good amount of food for two people. I also saw that they had sweet plantains on their menu, so I got an order of that as well. The total came out to around $40 which is amazing for the quality of the food, as well as the portion size. The chicken itself was juicy and flavorful and so was the rice and beans, corn tortilla, and the sauces! Chefs kiss! The staff were very friendly as well and service was fast! I have nothing new to say. I still like this ay papa que rico and its food. It's still tasty as the first day they opened. I'm right in the middle of two locations and this location is my preferred go to. I like the service. never rude. always smells good whether i'm getting food or just passing by. Quaint ambiance. I want to give it a 5 star, But i'll give it 4 stars because their prices keep going higher and higher. That's really the thing i dislike. that every 3-6 months prices go up. quality is still good, but i remember when i could get a whole chicken combo from them for $20 bucks and some change. Beyond BBQ Chicken/Meats (a must get), their Cuban Sandwich, Pupusas, Empanadas are popular on the menu. So, the outside of this location of Ay Papa Que Rico in Sunland/Sun Valley looks kinda sketchy in an industrial part of town. However, this restaurant is very reputable with more than 5 locations around San Fernando Valley (and Palmdale); location wise it's a true case of don't judge a book by its cover! At first I though $16 was a bit much for one plate, but actually you get a lot of food. I got the 1/2 chicken plate, came with thigh, breast, drumstick and wing. All very tasty, nicely seasoned and have a good smoky flavor to it. You also get two sides that are quite large (beans and rice). Rice is a bit bland but obviously not the star of the show so that's okay. You get tortillas and two sauces as well (a spicy red one and a green sauce). I went to a party which someone brought chicken from this place and it was delicious. When I was in the area, I knew I had to come back. The restaurant is casual with enclosed outdoor seating. Parking is limited but we didn't have a hard time finding a spot. Chicken is perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful, the half chicken is 4 pieces and can feed 2 people. This restaurant must've changed hands a few times over the years, I am glad Ay Papa Que Rico took over and have been here a cool min. Decided to visit a couple weeks ago and they did not disappoint... ordered the half chicken combo which came with a choice of black or pinto beans, tortillas, rice, salsa, grilled jalapenos, radish, lemon and an avocado! We also got 2 empanadas, beef and chicken. Both was enough for 2 (women) hungry patrons. They actually offer table service which I was surprised, I really thought it was seat yourself but a nice older gentleman brought water, napkins and the food to our table. This place is amazing.. 1st time I've been at this location cuz I think they have like 8 or 9..I've been 2 the one in canoga park and 2 on van nuys Ave.. the food is consistent from location to location.. but the service here is beyond fantastic .. Vicente was super amazing. He is very attentive and polite. I will continue to come to this location just because he works here. Stopped in late evening for a quick bite. The space is so neat. It's all outside with a walk up window. Plenty of seating with several outdoor lamps for the cooler evenings. Even though it's outside the atmosphere is very quaint and cozy tucked behind a gated enclosure with security. Very hearty menu! We ordered an asada sandwich (lettuce, mustard, cheese), an asada burrito (white rice, black beans, cheese, tomatoes and onions) and an order of fries (shoestring). Elijah: 3.7. Super happy this vacant spot become a great, Cuban eatery. It's a nice, outdoor restaurant with covering and the smoky wafts from the grill in the back are always a pleasant tease. Been coming to this new location of Ay Papa for several months now, since its opening, and I'm mostly enjoying everything I try. The bottom line is that meat, and it is always grilled or barbecued to perfection. So an A in the protein department. Unfortunately, as much as the food is tasty and the portions satisfy, I must say that the preparation of the items tend to be inconsistent from visit to visit. Most of the time, it is good. I will say that. But it has occurred too many times in which the fillings of the burrito are skimpy or something else is a little overdone. Another thing that's a tad annoying is that their menu designs are a little generic, to the point that some of the menu items you order might not reflect what you see on the menu marquees at the service window. The biggest difference being their empanadas. They looked like baked pastries on the marquee, but they were definitely fried. Still tasty though. One thing that does stay great every time, and it has turned into one of my favorite items on the menu, is their bacon, egg, cheese and tot breakfast burrito. The bacon is cooked well - not too crispy, not too soft - they aren't stingy with the amount of egg (really does seem like two eggs every time) and those tater tots add the perfect amount of texture and salt to the dish that is far from the bland, shredded potato filler a lot of other places stuff their breakfast burritos with. And they serve it all day now. Hooray! I for sure plan to keep going to Ay Papa. Their menu seems to be growing with fun, seasonal and daily specials I want to try eventually. And I'm just a sucker for a good breakfast burrito, and authentically grilled, charbroiled meat. Dalena: Got the Asada Burrito. Beans were cooked and seasoned very nice, and the rice was very fluffy, but not overcooked. Meat was seasoned well, but not very prominent inside of the burrito. Luckily, the rice and beans were great. I definitely want to try the plates next time though, so I can experience each item separately. While pulling up to the restaurant your nose will take in the aroma of charbroiled chicken and spices. A half chicken plate with two sides will only cost you $13 and keep your stomach satisfied the entire day. Another favorite is their chicken and asada sandwiches. These bad boys put Subway to shame. Filled with fresh ingredients they're sure to satisfy the heartiest of appetites. Finally they're pretty efficient. In these times where we're all on the go and in a rush they can put together an order for my entire staff in about 20 minutes. I'm definitely going to be a frequent visitor. read more

At the window I ordered the 1/2 grilled chicken combo (marinated, cooked tender), more than I could finish. Included rice, beans (choice of black or pinto), tortillas, fruit, and grilled jalapeño and hatch chile peppers. After ordering Vicente (a sweet older man who brings to your table) came right over with plate, silverware, my drink, and the fruit. Over time he would check up on people, asking if everything was okay, and clean up after customers, all with a smile on his face. I ordered 45 min before my lunch time and it even told me that the food would be ready by 11:30 am when I got there they hadn't even started with my order and I ordered a simple sandwich.
