We came here on a Friday night and the place had a steady trickle of people. We got the spinach empanada, vegan plate and the bandeja paisa, which is a standard Colombian plate. The vegan plate had black beans, white rice, plantains, and a side salad. The bandeja paisa had beans, a fried egg, chicharron, steak, rice, plantain, and chorizo. The meat was perfectly grilled but the chicharron was a little tough but still good. The vegan plate had much flavor -- the beans were tasty and the rice fresh. They were very generous with the plantains. The complimentary tortilla chips and salsa were so fresh and delicious. The spinach empanada was a little tough - it was crispy but there was less spinach than I would have expected and the cheese in it wasn't really melted either. Overall the food was very fresh and delicious. Parking can be tricky bc their lot fits only 3 cars. We parked a couple blocks in the neighborhood. Front of the store parking also seems limited. Service was kind and efficient. Food came out in less than 5-10 minutes. Place is well decorated and has nice seemingly traditional decor inside. read more

Once I found a go-to dish at La Maria I increased my visits, and in doing so decided to really go through the menu and try dishes ol' whitey here had (in some cases) never heard of. Doing this has made this restaurant impress me more and more. The food here is just excellent, and I've learned and expanded my favorites each year. The staff is always accommodating to my questions (and middling pronunciation) and also helpful with suggestions and substitutions. New favorites have been the special Arroz Mixto (if this is on the special list, go for it!), Pesto Salmon, Pollo Encebollado and Pollo en Salsa Verde among others. Their Carne Asada is very tender and flavorful as well. The atmosphere is relaxed and without any pretention, and it's a hidden gem in this part of LA. read more

We stopped here on our way out of SoCal before we headed to the airport. There are not that many Colombian restaurants in NorCal, so when we are in SoCal we try to go to a Colombian restaurant. It was a nice day so we sat outside (we also had our pupper, so outside was a must). The restaurant itself is small and cozy. Outside there were about 10 tables. The service was quick, we ordered Colombian hot chocolates, but it did not come with the queso (cheese), so we had to ask for it. We were charged for each order. Normally, the queso comes with the hot chocolate, but I digress. The food was good, tasty, and authentic. It is definitely a place we would recommend trying out at least once. read more

For entries, we ordered the Pollo en salsa criolla for me and the pollo sudado for hubby, both were excellent. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful with the menu choices. Mostly, I just wanted to try a real Colombian beer because I've become so accustomed to the smooth and nutty flavors of Colombian coffees. What was a wonderful surprise was the quaintly decorated and impeccably clean and comfortable dining room that greeted me with a view of Victory. The menu was an ample yet manageable display of traditional options. A perfect plate of Arose Con Pollo struck me as a familiar choice, though I will opt for something more unique to Colombia next visit. What was strikingly delicious were the empanadas. Crispy and chewy. Salsa: Perfect. Minimalist. Cilantro, Onions, and a couple other things. Not tomato based. Scrambled Eggs aka Huevos Pericos: Very nice. Three eggs with fresh tomato, green onions and side of Cheese Arepa. They def don't cheap out on the eggs. Usually I find restaurants give two smallish eggs and you leave hungry wishing they had thrown in one more GD egg. Cheap ass mo-fo's! Not here though. They give you three nice sized eggs.
