I came here for late lunch/early dinner on a Sunday. The restaurant wasn't crowded and we were seated immediately with the only other family that wanted hibachi. The waitress took our order as standard but I wouldn't say the waitress did anything exceptional to say the service was great. It was just standard service. There were some younger children at our table and the chef didn't do any extra tricks to wow the kids. No extra fire tricks, no choo choo train, almost nada. Of course the chef tossed some food in people's mouths but, that's about it. Most importantly the food was good and it was cooked as requested. I needed a quick small healthy meal so I thought I'd try Aya. I ordered via delivery service. I ordered the Yakitori (Chicken) appetizer. Delicious! Just the right amount of chicken I was looking for. The Seaweed Salad was okay, but a bit too sweet for my taste. I ate only a couple mouthfuls. The Green Salad was just iceberg lettuce with 1/2 a slice of tomato and 1/3 of a slice of cucumber. I didn't care for the dressing. Japanese Hibachi is one of my favorites - have been here a number of times to enjoy the shows with flaming onion volcanoes, etc - even ordered take-out a few times during the pandemic ...never realized I neglected to review ;) ...sooo here we go! Took my daughter & her bf here for dinner tonight - did not call ahead to reserve a hibachi table & wouldn't you know it - 6:30 and already packed (seems like EVERYone is eating out this week;) No problem, we were fine with the regular® tables. Drinks came in a jif & we placed our orders - same entrees as we would have ordered at the big tables. I ordered Hibachi Chicken & Shrimp w/ small side salad. Our entrees we on the table in less than 10 minutes! Taste - definitely a cut above the norm. Veggies were well prepared - not mushy & meat was not overdone! Let's start with how dirty the place looks. Walls are filthy, exhaust fans have accumulated grease and dust, floors were sticky along with the tables. The food has barely any flavor, however, I did enjoy the ginger salad. The chef needs some communication skills as to what sauces he's using or at least speaking to people around the table, and making the experience more than just a big flame-up. Overall, the place needs a good cleaning and when serving drinks, fresh plastic should be used instead of having to reuse the same cup or pour water from a pitcher instead of the waiter gathering the cup to wander off and refill the same cup. read more

Dust and cobwebs everywhere, empty boxes and random stuff piled in empty booths and behind the bar, bathrooms are falling apart, and food was served on plates with giants pieces cracked off the edges. The staff just sits at a booth on their phones in plain view of customers. Food wasn't bad, but I'm sure the kitchen cleanliness is similar to the front. Will NEVER eat here again, no way. We've been looking for a local habachi restaurant since moving back to PA and stumbled upon this gem. The restaurant was clean and the staff was welcoming, with different sushi and habachi sections. The cook at our hibachi table was professional as well as interactive. We had so much fun. But really, the dinners were absolutely delicious...and plentiful! This is my favorite quick grab Japanese restaurant. They have a very good hibachi chicken platter that has both rice and noodles, chicken, and of course the yum yum sauce to smother it with. They are also quick and fairly affordable. I haven't tried other items there so I can not say if everything is as solid as this dish, but my philosophy at times is to find what I like and stick with tried and true. I never expected to return triumphantly to Carlisle, Pennsylvania and find sushi that is comparable to what I can get in Tampa. Yet, after experimenting at AYA for a bit, that is exactly what happened. On our first night back, when we arrived at my brother's house, his wife had some sushi from AYA waiting. We had specifically asked for some Sweet Potato and Avocado Rolls. Considering the long delay to our flight and our pit stops at every Sheetz in the area, by the time we ate the sushi, it had been through the ringer. It held up decently but the overall reaction was just meh. We've had better. I'm not sure why, but when we were out and about one day we decided to swing by AYA and give it another whirl. Boy am I glad we did. Inside the restaurant there were so many more options than what the take out menu has to offer. I went back to my old stand by, tempura sweet potato, but instead of an avocado roll I saw something even more intriguing. A tempura pumpkin roll? Say what? Don't mind if I do. J-Fur got her usual, avocado and asparagus roll, but she too noticed something out of the ordinary. On the hand roll menu there was an avocado and peanut roll (like actual peanuts, you know). The results? A complete 180. Eating the sushi fresh was an amazing experience. The sweet potato was so much warmer and crispier. But the highlight of the show was the pumpkin. That roll was beast. On J-Fur's plate? The roll of the night was the avocado and peanut. Silky and crunchy and salty all at one time. Everything was so good, we wound up coming back a few nights later. If you stop here and are a vegetarian or vegan, I recommend the pumpkin and the avocado peanut hand roll. Sure they are unique flavors that you won't find elsewhere but the real treat is that they taste amazing. read more

Where to start..the staff here is SO horrible. The waitress barely understands you and makes zero effort to do so, let alone an effort to provide good service. She clearly doesn't care if you enjoy the service or food. It sucks because the food is SO great, but half of going in for habachi is the experience, and the chefs here don't give you that. Overall, food is great and service basically destroys the food; only reason it doesn't is because it's BYOB so you can be a little tipsy and forget that it's trash. We went for takeout. Picked up two house salads, a spicy tuna roll and two hand rolls, yellowtail and salmon. The salad dressing was watery. The spicy tuna roll was just mushy tuna, wrapped in seaweed; not spicy at all. The hand rolls were mostly seasoned rice. The salmon and yellow tail slices in the hand rolls were the trash parts of the fish. Delivery was quick (less than 10 minutes) and we could understand why. So disappointed! read more

**SERIOUSLY BEWARE!!! Used to go there a lot. NOT ANYMORE!!! Got the habachi chicken and shrimp and I was given LITERALLY two (2) shrimps. It started off where our daughter wanted chicken and salmon on the kids meal and we would pay extra for the salmon and she said no. Then she asked the age of our daughter we said 12 and said she had to order and adult meal. (Way to encourage childhood obesity). We explained that neither one of our daughters eats that much, then she suggested they share 1 adult meal (mind you we'd be spending more based on what we wanted, we weren't trying to get anything for free). In retaliation for my husband getting agitated they gave us all including the 3 adults paying adult prices, kids meals. We been there plenty of times to know the portions, plus we looked around at all the other tables even the people at the same table but across from us with the other chef, and sure enough we had kid size meals. The young man across fro us with his steak and shrimp had a lot of shrimps on his plate. Also, the food was over salted. We did say something about the 2 shrimps to the manager and she apologized and gave us something off the price, so obviously she knows something was wrong with just 2 shrimps. AYA steakhouse is a good place to go with friends or on a date. Outside is nothing special being in a plaza but the inside has a nice decor and feel. Service is a bit slow but could be worse. Reason for the 3 stars is that the menu is pretty confusing and some things aren't available on certain days (which you won't know until ordering). I got the all you can eat sushi, the price for that is great for what you get, if you're a big sushi eater like me. You can't beat this quality sushi (in the general Carlisle area that is) Overall this place is good but could be GREAT if they had clearer and more specific menus and faster service. read more

Four for the sushi (for southern Pennsylvania), 2.5 or less for the service. AYA does a $25 all you can eat roll special, so if you're like me and can eat at least two special rolls, it''ll save you money to go this way. I ordered four rolls total. The Butterfly roll, had a tasty chili sauce with a hint of spice (that complemented the fish without overpowering the flavor). My favorite was the Carlisle roll, with spicy mayo and tuna melded together with avocado for a delightfully filling treat. The Fuji Morning hand roll was nice, but the mixture of fish didn't meld as muc has I hoped, and the Seafood roll was alright, but needed soy sauce to give it a bit more distinction than just the fish in it. Overall I think there's plenty on the menu for anyone who likes sushi. Just spend a little more time contemplating your options than I did. Otherwise, this felt like a standard American hibachi restaurant. The ginger and wasabi came from the same source it does in all of these restaurants. The party on the hibachi side celebrating a birthday got a weird Happy Birthday rendition with some terrible drumming to go along just because the drum might have sounded vaguely Asian. I had to grab the soy sauce from further down the sushi bar when the waitress didn't bring me any. In another odd moment, the woman next to me didn't enjoy one of her dishes, so two waitresses stood there asking why she didn't like it and guessing at random reasons it might have been prepared wrong. It was incredibly awkward to watch. In their defense, I then had to watch a waitress put up with some older woman's semi-racist questions about China, so I suppose there's some give and take on both ends. In summary, the sushi was decent (good for Carlisle) with nice portions and a chef who did a good job with presentation, but the rest of the restaurant was completely standard fare. read more

I was really pleasantly surprised with my visit here on 2/5/16. I really liked the selection of sushi and sashimi that they have here, and the variety of their chef's special rolls was impressive! I had the samurai roll and the shrimp tempura roll, and my father had the lobster tempura roll and fried oyster roll. I really enjoyed all of the rolls! I tried the ones my father got and they were really flavorful as well! Service was pretty good and I have no complaints about that. I'll definitely be returning sometime in the future for sushi. The only negatives I have about this place is the fact that the restaurant had a bit of an off smell. It's really hard to explain what it was, it just smelt a bit old and unpleasant. The second problem I have is with the booths. They aren't attached to anything, so if you love or slide, the booth and seat are coming with you. My first visit was for hibachi. It compares to the others on about the same level. You get your soup, salad, meat and veg with a choice of noodles or rice. They do their thing, perform and then you eat. Price is just about even with the competition. Second visit was for the AYCE sushi. It's a tad pricier than those around them (except for at lunch when they are the best value), however you will want to go for dinner at least once if you are a sushi fan. Why? Because that is when they offer the full menu. All the fancy, artistic designs are made to order 'til you're done and full. I got the regular sushi platter (the California roll is a bit of a waste), and also the Ichiban roll, which was a flavour sensation. The miso soup was underwhelming, but free. I would give 4 stars, but it's a bit overpriced. My family came here after church one day, trying to find something new. The restaurant is in a strip mall next to giant and a pizza place. It's separated into two spaces: hibachi and sushi. We came for sushi. It was very nicely decorated, and the bathrooms were very clean as well. However, the floors were weird because they were really slippery, but luckily there's a rug to prevent slipping. The first thing we noticed was the price of sushi- pretty dang high (16$ for a specialty roll? We have a favorite sushi place that serves endless sushi for that much!). We ordered anyways- I got a seaweed salad and the sashimi appetizer(8 pieces for 9$). My dad order the salmon lovers, and my brother ordered the "spicy tuna million dollar roll"(a speciality roll with roe on it). They also split an order of chicken fried rice. My seaweed salad was really pretty and slightly spicy, which was a tasty surprise. My sashimi were thick and fresh- it came with yellowtail, tuna, and salmon. My dad's order came with three types of salmon: sashimi, spicy, and roll. My brother's looked attractive, but he didn't comment on it. The chicken fried rice was HUGE. Definitely split with at least 4 people. We probably won't come back, though. Don't get me wrong: the service was excellent as well as the food, it was just really really overpriced (64$ for the three of us... Before tip). read more
