I am so so upset from what Ayman did to my hair. I asked for face framing pieces and he gave me wayyy to short, blunt, chops down the front of my face. I can't even tuck my hair behind my ears the face framing pieces are so short. This is not at all what I asked for and he cut it way shorter all around than I wanted. He did such a rushed job and it looks so choppy and is going to take forever to grow back. Everyone I showed after commented how botched my cut looks. Ayman absolutely crushed my hair!!! I usually like to hop around to different salons because I've never found one that really stood out to me, but I will be back to Ayman's for sure. He's one of the only stylists I've ever had that completely understood the mission and delivered 100%. After another salon canceled on me last minute (hours before my appointment) the week of my birthday, I went on an emergency hunt to find a last minute appointment. Good luck finding a place to do any sort of balayage or highlights the same week in Chicago. BUT luckily Ayman had an opening and I booked with a little over 24 hours notice. He not only accepted my appointment but called me himself to make sure he understood what I wanted and that he could provide what I need. My hair was faded and grown out, and he completely revived it, refreshed my look, and my hair looked amazing for days before it needed a wash. I showed one picture for inspiration and he nailed it. The salon was clean, had a wide range of products, and Ayman was a great conversationalist. It felt like I had known him forever. My only note is to confirm your pricing beforehand if you have a tight budget! My end total was more than the online price, but I was more than happy to pay it as he provided me with so many services, so last minute, he was amazing overall, and the end total was still hundreds cheaper than what I would have paid at a place down the street. Ayman and his wife are absolute sweethearts and amazing at what they do! I found their salon because it popped up in my neighborhood last year and I was in the market for a new one. Taking a chance, I booked an appointment online for a trim. I'm pretty easy going when it comes to my hair and don't do much with it, so trying a new salon isn't a big risk for me. Ayman and his wife are so welcoming and kind. They always offer me a beverage and make me feel relaxed and happy to be there. They give a great shampoo prior to the cut, which my previous salon stopped doing. After the shampoo, Ayman asks exactly what I'm looking for before evening touching the scissors. I appreciate this so much -- he'll even show how much hair he will be cutting so I have an idea of what to expect. I can tell he really takes into consideration what I want out of the cut and style. On top of that, he is just so dang sweet! He always seems genuinely interested in my life and how I'm doing. The price is RIGHT too! $45 for a haircut and shampoo, you really can't go wrong. Today I had an appointment with Ayman and got the times wrong (I showed up 30 minutes late!!). I offered to go home and come back, but he still managed to accomodate me despite having another client at that time slot. This duo is A+ in my books and I am so happy to have them in the Southport Corridor neighborhood. My split ends were crying for a trim, so after scouting through Google, I stumbled upon Ayman Salon and decided to give them a try. Ayman is one of the most attentive hairstylists I've had in a while. Besides the haircut and wash itself, he gave me tips to better take care of my hair. One that stood out was to do looser ponytails because he noticed my hair health wasn't the best. I wouldn't have known it if he didn't point it out. Haircut and wash took around 35 minutes and looked pretty similar to the photos I shared. I docked one star since the back of my head was kind of damp when I walked out, but the front part of my hair was fully dry. At times, the water when he was washing my hair got kind of hot but these are pretty minor critiques. Prices are also quite reasonable for Chicago haircuts. Overall, I'd recommend them if you're looking for a hair salon! read more

This haircut was truly the worst experience and worst haircut I've ever had in my life. 1. Never had a consultation before washing. 2. Didn't ask any questions about what I wanted. Only asked about length and then tried to start cutting and I had to stop him and tell him what else I wanted. 3. Parted my hair without asking where I part it. 4. Took about 6 minutes total to cut my hair and never double checked length was even in front and back, never took the weight out of it. Cut WAY too much and so now it's too short and too thick. I have a wave in my hair that I tried to tell him about but he didn't see my hair dry, only wet because there was no consultation. 5. Half rough blow dried my hair towards my scalp which is not the correct technique. Literally just tangled my hair and then said "that's good" and I left with wet knotty hair. Would literally never return. After seeking out another firm at that location, I gave Ayman a try. He was just setting up shop, sweeping floors. I asked him to wash his hands; he may not have appreciated that. However, you would be surprised at the beauticians who are offenders. Moving forward, on the second visit, a phone call appointment, my hair cut was even shorter. But I still thought it looked long and lacked shape. The angle cut is wrong for my chin line. He is making business for himself. Moreover, the third visit for me, a senior using a walker on state assistance, I asked for hair magazines to solve shape issues. He had none. He thought again and ran to the rear and came back with a good book. I picked out a style about 3 to 4 inches in length all around, and set my conditions for a hair cut of 3 to 4 inches. My taste was reinforced. It didn't matter. Ayman wanted to style it for another face (finer features & 75 lbs. lighter). The results: "It was extremely short." I bitterly complained and he made comments, some kind and some steering me closer to home. Ayman does what he thinks I should wear and not what my experience tells me what wouldn't work on a 205 lb., 83 year old. He doesn't know I have had no justice on a Title VII lawsuit, since 1989. He also didn't know I am an auditor, a CPA & litigant. However, he did make reference to getting a car (for intentional emotional harm), perhaps. A quiet appearance, modest in good taste, not an adjustment and forced rejection. It all could have been avoided if Ayman trusted my tastes! The left-side was clipped at an angle nipped at the crown flowing down the temple. It looks ugly; I part my hair on the reverse side. Sorry Ayman my guess you didn't want my business. On 2nd visit, he joked and pretended to decapitated me, when he said he was from Georgia. Please forget that scare tactic. Good luck to you. It won't be my $40.00 you ring up though. read more

Clean, prompt , efficient. However, Ayman is not a good hair stylist for female hair cutting. Cuts extremely fast but not thorough. Got home and noticed blunt cut was uneven. He talks about politics and complains about high rent he pays for the Southport salon. I was in and out in 20 minutes for the cut and blow out. Didn't use any products to blow dry or light hair spray at end. I felt very rushed. Too bad as the location is great. read more

I am not one to make reviews, but I thought it was important to share this one because I really did not enjoy my time at Ayman's hair salon. To start, there was very little time for a consultation of what I was looking for and didn't feel like I got the chance to explain how I wanted my hair highlighted and cut. Then I was transferred between three different people (highlight, shampoo, and cut) which made me feel like I had lost the one on one connection with my stylist. After all, the stylist is why you go to a salon and if it keeps changing then you loose the fact why you are there. Also when they were washing my hair the would leave me for extended periods of time with my head back in the sink which was just uncomfortable but also confusing without an explanation. All these things were just little treads in my experience as I figured at atleast my highlights would be good, but they were NOT what I was looking for. The highlights don't blend in naturally at all and are not evenly placed throughout my hair. I went to this salon for the time convivence and price, but should have just gone to my original stylist. Lesson is, wait for the right stylist to have an opining (there is a reason they are so busy) and if you are going to get your hair done pay the extra buck to have it done right. read more

Terrible. I'm LIVID. He did the opposite of what I asked. It took me two years to grow my hair out from a bad cut during COVID. I told him I wanted to keep it as long as possible while my shorter layers were still catching up. I told him only LONG layers. I have curly hair but wear it straight sometimes - I told him I did not want short layers because it's unmanageable when it's curly. He said he would take 1/2 inch only. He took at least 3 inches off the bottom and 5 inches off the shortest layer. He disregarded everything I said I wanted and made the decision to "even me up" by giving me shortest possible layers. It looks terrible - it will be at least a year before the shortest layers grow back. I could care less about his "professional" opinion. I'm the one who has to look in the mirror. I'm fine living with my own choices - I shouldn't be forced to live with someone else's. This is the worst haircut I've ever had. read more

Hot coffee and tea offered right at the door! I've always tend to get a brassy color in my hair when I go elsewhere for coloring service, but Ayman knows how to get it right and blend my colors in evenly from root to tip. I go from dark to light & light to dark as the season changes, and we work on transitioning colors together. I always love my haircuts by Ayman, I go for the subtle cut with the right amount of volume needed. He's humble, creative, and takes suggestions really well, easy to work with. If it isn't right then he fixes it without hesitation. I gave him a try once and never looked anywhere else. It's worth the 45 min drive in!
