Finally tried this local place for dinner and boy is it worth the hype. Showed up on a Friday evening without a reservation and were able to get the last available table for two. The service was stellar - friendly, attentive and provided recommendations. We had the turnip and green apple soup - very rich, the potatoes - oooh a bit spicy!, and the chaufa with chicken - perfect amount of seasoning, absolutely delicious. Some of our absolute faves: Fig & Goat cheese toast, avocado toast, pork belly bites, steak and eggs breakfast, shrimp tacos, even the patatas bravas are ridiculous. Service was excellent every time (just understand it is not a rushed environment, so if you're in a hurry, you may want to follow up on getting the bill quickly, but never rush the chef ;)) and the ambience is always chill with just the right music playing. Went in yesterday, Saturday morning to support this Restaurant. It did not disappoint Both my friend and I ordered the Criollo dish. Arepas are like corn tortillas but a little thicker and finer dough. Steak was so delicious and tender. Potatoes were yummy. One order of coffee is plenty for two. It comes in a coffee press. Decided to come here for breakfast finally and it didn't disappoint. The restaurant is small but feels very open due to the design. The service was excellent and very attentive. People here are very friendly and warm. The food was sooo good as well. I ordered the Chicharron Sandwich. So much flavor that I'm not sure I'd be able to order anything else! My love got the Steak and eggs dish. The dish was also delicious, only problem was she didn't get much steak. Please fix the portion size on this, it was maybe 4oz of steak at best. She also ordered the hot chocolate which came in a great little hand crafted mug. We will definitely be back for dinner sometime. The food quality alone is worth giving this place a try. read more

So excited to discover this new gem in Camarillo - warm and welcoming service, exquisitely balanced flavor profiles and elevated plating showcases delectable Colombian cuisine. It's a welcome addition to the cultural food scene in Camarillo. My friend and I spent nearly 2 1/2 hours slowly savoring the food and treat. She also ordered a coconut lemonade which was deliciously light and tart- and not at all heavy as I expected it to be with the coconut milk. Shrimp tacos-- juicy, tender, tart and creamy tacos in a corn tortilla that didn't fall apart when handled. As my friend said -- this is not first date food- messy, but finger licking good. Peruvian ceviche, fresh fish, Peruvian corn kernels that are crispy and a good foil to the acidity of the incredibly delectable crudo, which I finished off with a spoon as if it were soup. Sweet potato two ways - a purée with a hint of tart that complimented the sweet, and crispy house made sweet potato chips. The pièce de resistance was the pan seared octopus with a white bean purée that will make you think you're eating the best mashed potatoes you've ever eaten. The octopus is flawlessly seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection. The char is perfect and a morsel of the bean purée with the octopus is out of this world - creamy, crispy, tender, homey and yet so elegant. I am always looking to support small minority food businesses. Also searching for new menus, in this case ethnic food, away from the usual, mundane breakfast or lunch items. Azafran, in Camarillo, is run by a cute Colombian couple and they state that their restaurant is a Latin fusion establishment. The dining area is small but cozy. The menus are very limited, but attractive. First, I had to have coffee. Served uniquely, and bursting with flavor. For food, I chose the Huevos Criollos, a Colombian presentation of scrambled eggs, steak, arepa, corn, cheese and potatoes. The whole dish blew me away, in all departments. The eggs were soft and creamy, not too much cheese (the way I like it). The steak pieces were medium rare, cooked perfect, juicy with char flavor and had satisfying texture. The potatoes had the right blend of crispness, softness and rosemary flavor. If anything needs improvement, I would say that the arepa was overdone and dry, hence difficult to even cut. Happened upon their grand opening today, and I'm excited to see what Azafran will bring to Camarillo! This is a charming, Columbian family-owned restaurant, and I had the chance to chat with Camila for a bit to learn a little more about their passion for food. Her husband, the chef, will be curating a rotating American menu with a little Peruvian-Columbian twist here and there, using locally sourced ingredients. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner options and I'm stoked about some of the appetizers on the menu, like Crudo. I tried the Peruvian Ceviche and the Patatas bravas. I would've loved more lime and chips with their ceviche but their patatas bravas were AMAZING - the perfect seasoning and crisp to the potatoes. It seems like they still might be figuring out their overall vibe and are eager to learn what locals from Camarillo (Camarillians?) enjoy. I love the fig and goat cheese toast as well as the prosciutto. The roast potatoes as a side are unforgettable!!! Every thing I've tried so far has been wonderful. Be sure to memorize their name because Azafran is a challenge to remember. It's a small restaurant at the corner of Ventura Blvd and Palm. My only complaint is that the acoustics are BAD, making conversation difficult. If decorative rugs were hung on the wall, it might soften the harsh sounds. Have you ever been to a restaurant where, after the meal you feel like you want to stand up and applaud?! This is that restaurant! If it's Tuesday or Wednesday they serve paella after 4. If you're not there for paella, try absolutely anything else! The chef had a wonderful array of sauces that can transform something that is usually ordinary, into memorable. I've only been here twice so far, but have tried their prime rib sandwich, shrimp tacos and vegetarian sandwich. The shrimp tacos were the best I've ever had and served unlike any place else. That thin, shaved tomato on top of the avocado was beautiful, and again the sauce put it this dish right over top. My prime rib sandwich was juicy and tender with a wonderful flavor. Still raving about the vegetarian sandwich with roasted potatoes. . Wouldn't it be wonderful if they turned Old Town into a foodie paradise?! read more
