It's been years since I've been to an Azteca. I stopped into Azteca for lunch and to kill some time while I was waiting for my partner at the near surgery center. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. During my visit I chose to sit in the lounge rather than the family dining area. Azteca offers a full bar. Complimentary chips and salsa were delivered as soon as I was seated. I enjoyed a Dos Equis for $6.95 while deciding on my lunch choice. For lunch, I chose the Combination Poco #1 for $10.50. I opted for a basic ground beef taco, beans only, no rice. My lunch was decent and hit the spot. Azteca is amazing, especially this location. I have celebrated almost every single birthday there from ages 5 to 17 and then again from 28 to 30 (I took a break for college and grad school). The food is exceptional; I've been to many American-Mexican restaurants, and none compare. The chips and salsa here are the best around. Their amazing tortillas and chicken enchiladas served with rice and beans are my favorites. I love the warm and inviting atmosphere, with beautiful colors throughout the restaurant. The service has always been excellent. Many of the negative reviews are unfair; and come from whiny entitled babies. Costs have gone up everywhere sorry it blows you're mind 8 humans eating will lead to a 300$ bill. And that some of you get mad just because someone didn't pander to you every 2 mins then attempt to claim the workers have some sort language bias. Sorry just upsets me The staff here are lovely and truly deserves your business. I encourage you to try Azteca--or even better, try it 30 times or more! In short Amazingly consistent from location to location. If you just want to chill out and grab a dependable meal you can round this up a star. Full bar. In long They do everything as simply as they can. You get a scalding-hot plate because they prep everything in a commissary kitchen somewhere and run the order through a salamander to get it to temp. Stuff isn't quite sparkling fresh every time but it's solid and tasty enough. This one is in a big strip mall on a busy street, and they're trying to set the mood as soon as you walk in. Nice warm low lighting, pony walls that try to give you a hacienda vibe. Dining rooms to the right, bar to the left. The bar has a couple flatscreens showing the game, booths, highboys, the usual. Staff are super friendly and right on point with menus, chips, salsa, and so on. The chips are decent, salsa is a little tomato-y but has a few chunks of real veg and a tiny bit of spicy warmth. I had a decent mezcal marg and got the tacos al carbon. The carne was slightly chewy but tasted good, nice texture on the tortillas. This all hit the spot and looked exactly like plates I've seen at their other locations. The prices here are pretty good and everything was quick and comforting. I'd come back. read more

Never again. I'm done. We had dinner tonight in Mountlake Terrace. After our plates were brought out our waitress didn't check on us, not ONCE. Interestingly she stopped by the table speaking to her in Spanish six times. Yes, SIX times before they even ordered their dinner. She walked by us each time and glared at us every single time. Maybe it was because we didn't order alcohol? Maybe because we didn't Spanish. Little did she know that I actually do speak Spanish and just got off from work where I am a certified interpreter. There were only 4 occupied tables plus one six top celebrating a birthday in the entire restaurant. I saw a few occupied tables in the bar. I take it from their lack of customers (revenue) that we are not the only ones who came away disappointed. We only continued to patronize Azteca because of a particular dish they make. Everything else is... meh. I had been a customer since 1994 at the Seattle location. When we moved to the north end we started going to the Lynnwood location which soon closed. We moved to the Mountlake Terrace location where we are treated like we are not welcome. The owners need to revisit their mission statement. After much deliberation, I recently chose Azteca to satisfy a Mexican food craving. I ordered Tacos Al Carbon with adobo chicken. The chicken pieces were tender, tasty, and good quality. The tortillas were very barely dipped in sauce, so they could've been more flavorful. I also wished there was more garnish; I loved the taco I ate with the pinch of ice burg lettuce sitting under the pico, but didn't have enough to enjoy the other two tacos the same way. Azteca's beans and rice are very yummy, and better than many other local places. That alone earns them a star! This review is based on a delivery order, so I can't speak to service or ambiance. I will note that the packaging was thoughtful and done with care, which is not something I can usually say about delivery orders. While I only ordered one dish, it was good enough that I'm looking forward to trying Azteca again to try others. read more

Great food as always...but where's the liveliness? Not saying the staff were like zombies. But the atmosphere just felt low. The servers were nice...but music was not playing and all I heard were the multiple games on the TV. Ordered a margarita and a mojito. Dad said the margarita was good, and my mojito was just right! For food; Pollo Ala Crema! Perfect. Chicken cooked and tender, mushrooms were good, and rice and beans were great. 1 plate. Burrito with ground beef. No complaints there. Blanco Burrito plate...no complaints there either. Salsa and chips were on point as usual. Crispy and crunchy. I had to get a side of jalapeños cause I need that heat baby! The place appeared clean and neat. No sticky stuff. No smelly stuff. Bathroom was clean and good. I remember coming here with my parents some years ago and we had a blast cause it felt like a party going on. Sad to see it in a feeling of gloom... Huevos Rancheros is not on the menu, but you can order it off-menu. this location is my favorite. i haven't been here since the lock-down in 2020. and i'd forgotten how good the food is here. the chile verde and the huevos rancheros were just a delcious as i remembered. the pork in the chile verde was tender and not dry. the sauce had a slight kick to it. the eggs for the huevos rancheros were properly cooked to be soft yolk. the rice is well seasoned and not gloppy, and the refried beans are not mushy. love their salsa! it has a medium spicy kick to it, but it's not over-whelming. the restaurant was busy on sunday afternoon but service was attentive and efficient. although she was not the designated waiter for our table, Angelica checked on us frequently and was pleasant and upbeat. i will definitely ask for her table the next visit. time to go back and try my other favorites: chile relleno, sopa de azteca, chile colorada, enchiladas a la crema. read more

Not Your Old Azteca We have been frequent customers of Azteca restaurants for 4+ years in U district, Eastlake, Northgate and Alderwood areas. So sorry that all of these have closed! So we thought we would try the Montlake Terrace Azteca for Happy Hour. No menu, only three food items to choose from, all twice as much as prevoious Azteca HH items and only a house margarita available at HH prices ($10.00). Well the drink was so watery it was like half water and it was not even served with a slice of lime, sorry to say, the food (quesidillas) was not tasty with very little cheese and the bill came to almost $40 for four HH items. The two male waiters were not even friendly and weren't familiar with the menu but the woman who served us was very kind and solicitious. She was the best thing about our visit. This is the second time that i've ordered online and the total that I received in my confirmation, was les then what I actually paid. I should have noticed it when I was picking up and paying, but I didn't until I got home. I called the restaurant and talked to someone there. And they said that the prices online are not correct, that they are lower. I explained to the lady that that is absolutely unfair and that they should honor the price online, and that it is not the customer's fault that the prices are not accurately reflected. We just returned from the MLT Azteca, and after enjoying great food there for 50 years, we were served dried out leftover chicken and taco meat. My grandson's tacos were tasteless and dry with nothing served to top them. My fajitas had no peppers and were completely flavorless with the dried out leftover chicken sliced on top. THIS IS NOT THE AZTECA THAT I'VE KNOWN FOREVER! $67.oo for tasteless food we could barely get down our throats from the texture, and certainly didn't want the the massive amount left to take home! My 7 year old granddaughter likes this restaurant. I didn't realize that what she likes is very Americanized. She had nachos with cheese, refried beans & rice. Hey at least she's eating something little more ethnic. Well, sort of. I am hoping she will eventually want to try something a little more authentic. I don't care for the MLT location as a rule. This time around items were packed in compartment foil trays. Felt like I was in grade school. SMALL portions. Maybe a singe scoop of rice and 1.5 scoops of Beans. And then a tiny 1oz container of salsa was provided. And since it was in foil, it sweated so the crisp tortilla wrap was soggy. I'm sorry; we pay the same amount for take-out as we do for dining in. We should get the SAME QUANTITY/SIZE servings. Highway robbery. Won't go here again if I can help it. I have always loved the spinach enchiladas and my husband loves your combination plate. But this time he asked for a shrimp taco and the waiter did not return to us to say that wasn't an option. Instead the waiter gave him a shredded beef taco which my husband said was awful and he couldn't eat. He normally would have ordered a chicken taco. When I explained this to the waiter when he came to get our dishes he was not apologetic at all. Once again he explained that you can only get a shrimp taco when you order the shrimp taco dinner. One day it's a fantastic crunchy taco bursting with flavor accompanied by fresh creamy guacamole..and the next day it's a plate of sogginess overrun with grease. My friend took me to dinner here on 12/4. I've been to a few Aztecas in the Seattle area, and this one has been the friendliest and the fastest! We were seated right away and our waitress appeared one second later. My friend told her it was my birthday and she offered a few drink specials. We ordered dinner and just five minutes later it appeared along with our sodas. Our waitress checked on us a few times and took care of refills without having to be asked. Their food is universal at all of the restaurants. I like their tamales and fajitas. Prices range from inexpensive to reasonable and portions are huge. We had to rush out, and my friend paid at the register since we were running late. A much quieter Azteca than others, would definitely come back here. When you go to an Azteca, you should already know what to expect, as they're all like your typical chain Mexican family restaurant, so I'm comparing this with other chain and/or family restaurants. We came here with a large group of about 16 people, and they were able to accommodate all of us in their space. They have 2 main rooms on each side of the cashier. There's also a big booth by the cashier for those waiting for tables or take out, which is nice because it doesn't mix in with the dining rooms (keeps the waiting area separate from the dining area) and lets those who need/want to sit have a seat. Inside the biggest room, there's even more separate seating areas with walls and booths to keep them more private and away from the central open space (where our group sat) with some buffers. If you can't tell, I really liked the layout - both for our large group and also the smaller ones taking up the booths or other tables. As soon as people started arriving (we all showed up at different times), the waiters/servers were on it and brought over multiple chips and salsas, while taking drink orders. They came by multiple times before our main order to see if we wanted appetizers and more drinks. Once we got the appetizers, though, they waited a while before taking the main order, so I don't know if they were waiting for us to call them over for that, they were trying to give us more time, or they weren't ready for us yet. It just took too much time between our arrival and them taking our main order. Azteca has a hugely vast menu, so it can be hard to pick, if you don't know what sort of protein and/or style Mexican dish you want. Most people tend to go for their tacos, fajitas, or enchiladas. I chose the mariscos mojo de ajo (shrimp) because I wanted tortillas with rice and beans, along with some sort of seafood. This dish was extremely buttery/greasy and spicy, so the tortillas, rice, and beans came in handy. It's also served on a huge circle platter, so you'll need a lot of room for it. The portions are decent sized here, so you might end up with leftovers or be able to share with others while staying full. I was surprised that they didn't get any of our orders wrong - at least that I'm aware of. That earns them an extra star above the mediocrity of other chain and/or family restaurants. read more

Same thing, two small items and no garnish. Taste of food has changed and I think ithe restaurant may have changed hands. Came in on a Saturday night. Place was a little busy, but we were seated quickly. Although our waiter was also helping with a larger party, he was on point and quick with our order and drink refills. The food was very delicious and came out rather quickly. We were completely satisfied with every aspect of this visit. I eat here all the time as it is very close to my house. I am addicted to chips and salsa, and theirs is pretty tasty, not too spicy and a little chunky. This is also a good place for drinks, although drinks can be pricey. We often sample the margaritas. They have a decent selection of beer as well. It's a good place to meet up with a friend. Parking is easy. The televisions in the bar are not too loud and you can almost always just walk in and get seated. Although beware some of the bar area is not actually bar area and occasionally I find children seated too close for my comfort. There are not a lot of other good dining locations in this area so choices are limited. I also like that they have a vegetarian menu. Sometimes I get the veggie fajitas, I also enjoy the black bean soup. My family is full of Azteca lovers as well. My dad can be pretty demanding about his chip and soda refills and they always keep them coming with a smile. He loves the borrega y mas. My boyfriend is sad that the bar no longer provides free bean dip, but they do have specials and usually a happy hour option. This is convenient to work and I was desperate for food. This wasn't the best or worst... The service was excellent which was a pleasure; the food was so-so. I don't know if it's me, however the burrito I had was kinda tasteless. I'm vegetarian and worked with the hostess to have a black bean burrito - it wasn't quite black bean it was more refried (which would have been fine if wanted it). The gauc was fresh - need more salt and lime juice for a little kick. I'll go to a few other Mexican restaurants before I return. NOTE: I'm picky about my Mexican food lean towards more authentic flavors instead of chains. This is probably fun for a group night out of drinks! read more

It's good food but you get super full! I just don't get excited over the flavor anymore. The chicken is bland. I'm honestly not sure why Azteca has received a lot of low ratings. My wife and I ate at Azteca for the first time and we were really impressed with the food quality, the service, and the beautiful Mexican decor. We went to Azteca on a Sunday afternoon. When we arrived, it was pretty busy with people who had just gotten out of church. However, my wife and I were seated almost immediately. Not only were we quickly seated, but our orders were taken within a few minutes. We've both been to busy restaurants where it takes forever for the waiter/waitress to come back to your table, but Azteca was on top of it. I ordered the Enchiladas Mole while my wife ordered the Camarones. My wife kept complimenting how fresh the shrimp tasted and I was gushing on the sweet chocolate flavor of the mole. The shredded beef was also juicy, the rice was light and fluffy, and the beans were tasty. Maybe the service was bad at one point, but they must have stepped up their game, so I hope people are able to give this place another chance. I'll definitely be back again very soon! read more

I was born in Albuquerque NM and raised in Austin Texas so I know good queso. I have searched Seattle and the surrounding area for good Queso since I moved here in 2014. My search ended when I stumbled up on Azteca. The best queso ever! Do not limit yourself to just the queso as all of the food is authentic and made with love. However, my family has to order individual bowls of queso so we do not fight over it (be sure to add their from scratch salsa with it). read more
