I had no intention of giving this place a low rating but unfortunately I have to. Let me first talk about what was good here. The ambience and ambience is really good. Very lovely hand made plates - really captured an essence like very few other place does. The presentation is also good. I liked service as well. Food came in time and our server was lovely and very attentive. However the idea of restaurant is food. And I really doubt that I will be returning. The fish and chips were poor. Very oily. I am being honest but the fries (chips) were the worst fries I ever had. Soggy oily and absolutely disgusting. I came here on date and she wanted queso and chips. Since they didn't had queso they melted cheese and brought that. Very bad idea, queso and melted cheese are not same thing. The cheese got solidified by the time it was served. Rule of thumb for any restaurant - if you don't serve an item, just refuse and say you don't have that in menu. There is no need to go and extra way but get something disappointing. The service was 5 star. Because we accidentally ordered more and the server mentioned that she can write the extra item off the check. However we decided to keep it and make it to go. Now I am writing this review at 4 AM in night after dinner last evening. Why ? Because I have an upset stomach and it's getting painful. I don't think the food was hygienic. I hope I don't get sick. Although low lit the interior had a nice aesthetic. Liked the art and clay pottery. Waitress was slowly attentive. Started with frijoles puercos (pork beans) with chips. The bean dip was good, chips were stale. Liked their variety of salsas both in flavor and textures. Tried many, favorites were the cascabel (earthy and smokey) and the pineapple (roasted components with sweetness and not very spicy). Hubby got pozole rojo while I got menudo blanco. Both were underseasoned and not very complex. Las Brasas del Volcán is my go-to spot for Mexican food. Their food is very Jaliscense style, so their food isn't what you typically see here in Seattle/Lynwood area. As a Mexican, who's family is from Jalisco, their food represents our culture and state beautifully. Their lunch buffet is a bunch of different kinds of guisado (braised meats/stew). Their tortillas are hand made and AMAZING. Margaritas? Best I've had here in WA. Queso fondido? AMAZING (especially if you get carne asada AND chorizo). My biggest recommendation? Carne en su jugo. Hands down. It reminds me of my mama Chela's carne en su jugo and takes me back to being a little girl. Every Latino I have recommended this place to LOVES it. Big side note, if you expect your Mexican food to come with sour cream, shredded cheese, and crunchy shells, please go to Taco Bell. If you're expecting queso, like the kind you get a chipotle, go to chipotle or a Tex-Mex restaurant. If you're expecting renown french fries, go to McDonald's or any other American restaurant that surrounds us (also, who orders fries at a MEXICAN RESTAURANT). It's very disappointing and frustrating to see low reviews from people who expect Americanized Mexican food from an AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurant. Order the authentic stuff and you'll love it. I decided to check out Las Brasas del Volcán on a busy Sunday (10/15/23). I was the only solo diner onsite. Tables or booths were parties of 2, 4, 6, 12, 14. No surprise, the din was fairly loud. It's great to see groups of families and friends gather to enjoy each other's company with authentic cuisine. I upgraded my homemade chips with fresh guacamole. Tasty! I ordered the carne asada enchiladas. Made two meals out of the entree which came with four total enchiladas. It was topped with shredded iceberg lettuce, sliced radishes, and queso fresca. My mom wanted to come here for her birthday. Let me start with the good Food 10/10 . We all tried different dishes. Everything was well seasoned, fresh and tasty! You could taste the homemade A plus handmade tortillas yumm! The mangonada was amazing not sweet at all! Now the reason why I did not give a 5 star was because the service was slow. My family and i were there like 30 mins ago, el servicio fue bueno but the food it was kinda bad, i ordered a tacos de birria, my sister ordered empanadas de camarón, my nephew ordered camarones al mojo de ajo, and we were waiting for like 20-25 mins and just 2 people were there so we were confused about that. Then after then gave us our food we started eating but the food was cold and the flavor it wasn't that good, only the empanadas de camarón were good and the flavor was so good, maybe it depends on the food but i was mad at them cuz i told them that the food was cold and they didn't even change it, my nephew was sad cuz it he only had 5 shrimp. Some thing about this place is a little underwhelming. It's missing that " WOW" factor. When you walk in, it feels like a dead dive bar. They definitely need to upgrade their decor or at least make it somewhat brighter in the restaurant. The music should definitely be turned up a little bit louder because the only thing you can hear is everyone crunching there chips. Food was just okay. Rice was plain. My chorizo and Carne Asada tacos were definitely on the dry side. Meat was definitely precooked and not cooked to order. It tasted like it was preheated in the microwave just minutes before it was served in front of me. Baked potato was good, but again with the dry carne asada. I think what attracted me to try this place was the salsa bar. What a great concept! Only the sauces were also very underwhelming. I don't think I would come back here. Note: Lunch buffet review only - from a Lynnwood born Gringo. Not what I expected. Was mostly stew items. No chips and salsa. No cheese. No sour cream. Asked for them and got charged $5 for little amount of each. Limited buffet choices, all soupy or watery stuff with meat and vegetables in it. The refried beans were runny not thick. The rice was white with little color and nothing added like Spanish rice does. The tortillas were small and a mushy texture. The items on the buffet are evidently called guisados which is not said on the outdoor buffet sign and I have never heard of, meaning stew like. Nothing made up to have like burritos, chimichangas or flautas etc. as I thought a Mexican food buffet would have.. Nothing here I really cared for and I love normal Mexican food. The bill was $28.69 and I only had water and I was by myself. Came to over $30 with a $2 tip. And beware, they have a King County food service rating of "ok" which is concerning..... I have been excited to try the Mexican buffet since I saw the sign a week ago, but I thought it would have normal Mexican style food, not guisados. I'm still new to Mexican food but my experience here was pretty good! The waitress was very attentive and always asked if there was anything else we needed. The food also came out right away so there wasn't a long wait. Having their own sauce bar was pretty unique as well; I enjoyed having that available. Not pictured, but I had ordered a horchata, some carne asada tacos, and fried bananas and churro cheesecake for dessert. The tacos were tasty (three of them already had me feeling really full) and I really loved the cheesecake for the dessert. The condensed milk on the fried bananas was also really good. However, I assumed there would be complementary chips but we were charged $4.25 I believe for a small bowl of chips, which I personally thought was a little bit excessive. Overall good food, but a little more on the expensive side. Hoping to come back and try more dishes! read more

Obviously I'm a foodie person always in search of new restaurants to explore. I saw this place from another foodie person's blog. My bf and I were disappointed because the food was lacking flavor. Their doraditos are literally 2 hard tacos. It was so hard that eating it wasn't appetizing. I like that they have a self serve salsa bar but even the salsa lacked spice/flavor. Damn. You get tortilla chips with bean dip. Their chips are super hard as well. My bf had to had salt to his food and with everything it just didn't do justice. Portion was alright. I got their carne asada mole. I did enjoy my dish more because the mole was very good. No words for the carne asada and the beans with cheese. Just simple and plain. Now I realized they have happy hour. I love going to happy hours and especially a good margarita. So I asked my friends to come with me and try this place on Thursday. As my 2nd experience, even their margarita wasn't good. Couldn't taste the alcohol in our large margarita. It was super sugary and sweet, just straight up limeade. So we left to dine in at another Oaxaca restaurant that I know serves well margaritas with delicious food. Went here just for drinks, was craving a Michelada and this place nailed it. The clay glassware, Tajin rim, chamoy, went excellent with their well made Michelada mix. Generous size for the price as well. We got Margaritas for our second round. Tasted well balanced, not too sweet and not too liquory. Can definitely go for a few. They had football on the tvs as it was Sunday so good place to check out games. They were a little short staffed but isn't every place? Regardless the servers were so friendly, kinda, and accommodating. We did not try to the food but will be back soon to do so! Take out review : it can be challenging to find really good Mexican food in the Seattle area and las brasas del volcan is definitely top tier in food quality! I'm from south texas and love my Mexican food... I like my tortillas handmade and my beans made with lard . This place is right up my alley. Their corn tortillas are awesome and they have frijoles puercos for the people who eat pork and frijoles de olla for those who don't. I ordered the carne en su jugo (a steak, bacon, and bean stew made with a green salsa) and their arrachera plate. The arrachera plate came with the arrachera that had a perfect sear, grilled chorizo, grilled onions and a jalapeño, a little bean and cheese quesadilla, grilled zucchini, and a nice sized slice of queso fresco. It also came with the whole beans (frijoles de la olla) and tortillas. I can't attest to in person dining as this was takeout (and packed extremely well!), but 10/10 for everything.... no notes!!! I'll be back to dine in person because after their bomb food, I can already tell their michelada is gonna hit the spot read more

The chips are not free and a small container of Guacamole, I was charged 9.00, which Chipotle does a better job and you get more for your money. The food had no flavor or salt. Upon entrance, we were greeted by a friendly server, who brought us delicious homemade tortilla chips and beans. There's also a self-serve salsa bar, featuring a variety of salsas. My partner and I shared a margarita, which is huge and we could barely finish it :) Not pictured, but our food was so fresh and delicious. The quesadilla I got came with a generous mount of beef, chorizos, and cheese: the homemade tortilla was definitely the highlight of the dish. We ordered carne asada with mole and the carne asada dinner. They were excellent! Perfectly cooked flank steak with very good mole. The dinner includes chorizo, grilled vegetables (green onion, zucchini, jalapeño) with this great soft cheese. The whole beans were just ok, lacking flavor, and the gravy was a bit gummy. I had the Volcán and my gf had a Diana margarita, and they were good enough. The dining room is nice and comfortable with several booths and lots of windows. Service was attentive. We will return because we were impressed with the food quality and style. This isn't the kind of restaurant that serves an entree with rice and beans covered in shredded cheese and put under the broiler for too long, this food is a lot better than that. read more

Seems one server to assist entire dining room, about 30 booths. This puts a strain on service. First time, had chicken tortilla soup. It was good, but my server appeared disappointed I did not order more. Given complimentary bean dip and chips as I sat down. Second time, my waitress told me now there was a charge and now this appetizer item is listed on the menu. I showed her the menu and there was no bean dip and chips listed. Ended up being now 4.50. No problem, but the chips were quite hard and had a unlikeable sweetness to them. Went to the salsa bar to find salsa to cut the sweetness. Unfortunately, nothing was labeled. A customer before me was smelling the salsa choices, to judge what they were and their level of hotness. Not blaming her, but seemed unhygienic. Salsas were good, but you could not judge what they were, only taking a chance on what you took. I ordered Camerones de Ajo. These were nice tasting, however cooked completely with a hard to remove shell. My order did not come with the standard tortillas, but with prepackaged saltine crackers. Ah, you want to use the tortilla as a package, to use with the shrimp, rice and salsa. I tried to use my chips from my appetizer, but the sweetness of them and hard texture did not work at all. For this, I paid 25.00. Disappointing. I have never been served saltine crackers, unless I am in a diner and order soup. Service was good, had the same server both times. Young woman who was helpful, but kept asking me if I wanted more items. A theme I felt from the first time I was here. Lunch ended up at 50.00 for food and tip.
