    The best cortadito in Texas
    Elaine A.

After a year of working in Texas and being completely disappointed by the local food scene, finding this gem was an absolute miracle! I stumbled upon it by accident, and I'm so glad I did. The cafecito was absolute perfection, made correctly with evaporated milk--a detail only truly authentic Cuban spots get right. And the pan con bistec (I had it plain with just onions) was one of the most flavorful I've ever tasted, even beating out some of Miami's best. Ending my work trip on a high note with food and coffee from my people is the perfect send-off. The staff was kind and helpful, and the place, though a little dated, was cute and clean. Don't walk--run to check this place out, especially if you're traveling through from out of state!

Many of the appetizers such as empanadas and papa rellenas are meant to be crispy fried foods. The empanadas while they had color on the outside, yet the inside of the empanadas dough was raw. Weirdly enough, the exterior and interior of the dough was also separating. The meat filling has so many red peppers in it that you can't even taste the flavor of the meat because the red bell pepper takes over flavor wise. Rather than using fresh mashed potatoes, they're using rehydrated potato mix, which inherently gives food a different flavor. The papa rellena had the same meat filling as the empanada, so it was boring flavor wise. Many of these appetizers are pre-prepared and placed into storage and then warmed up . This means that food is coming out a cold fridge or freezer -- golden brown on the outside -- but cold or lukewarm on the inside. We had to ask them to warm up the papa rellena twice because the interior was still cold. The staff had no understanding that they were literally dishing out cold food from their kitchen. To me this says they don't have clear protocols on how to bring refrigerated foods up to service temperature. They don't have consistency in their delivery. They don't know or don't care that they're pushing out mediocre subpar foods to customers. There is a darn good reason why they're empty on a Tuesday night while the businesses in the same shopping center, same night, are booming with business. This place has food that flat out sucks. A homemade version of empanadas or papa rellena would never run into cold interior because even a home cook would know how long to cook it so that it is adequately warmed up on the inside and golden brown on the outside. The Cuban sandwich is a classically pressed sandwich that has golden brown toasted bread. When I opened my sandwich and saw the pale yellow colored bread, I knew it had not been sufficiently toasted. This is their restaurant. They should know the proper protocol to toast bread. Showing once again, they don't know or they don't care. The inside of the restaurant is in bad shape. From the broken concrete floors to the out of service refrigerator to the rags on the floor to collect refrigerator moist to the taped on signs on tables. This place looks dark, sketchy, unmaintained on the inside. I wish there was like a sign to warn people don't dine in here. It was totally terrible. The place was practically empty on a Tuesday night, and now I can see why. This establishment is not worth being a loyal diner. This is the kind of place that should totally shut down because it does such a disservice to a Cuban cuisine. The staff put puts in below bare minimum effort. The food is below mediocre. It was a total waste of money to visit this establishment, so I cannot recommend it at all. It was so bad that this was the first restaurant that I ever wanted to ask for a refund because it was that bad.

This was my first time going to a Cuban bakery, and I had no idea what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised by the cafe. Beautiful cakes and pretty pastries were neatly showcased in the display cases. I had a hard time choosing the pastries I wanted, because, firstly they all looked super good. Secondly, I did not understand the language, thus, I had to google all the names of the pastries. The staff was sweet and patient as I took my time to select. The cakes that I got: Dobo (my favorite), Rollitos, and Cabezote were delicious. The sponges were soft and fluffy, and the flavors were good. I got the butter cookies as well but they weren't fresh, and weren't buttery rich. I am not in love with the masa real as the top layer was very hard. I reached the cafe at about 10am on a weekday, and there were only two trays of bread in four shelves. About 20mins later, freshly made bread came out from the kitchen one tray after the other. It is probably best to go in the noon time to have full shelves of freshly baked goods. There are two tables with four chairs on each table available for dine-in customers. Most customers got their food to-go. The cafe is clean with simple decor. Parking is plentiful and free.

Love the bakery items, reqnny nice sandwich options for lunch, but I come for the best coffe ai have anywhere in Houston Cafe Cortadito Doble Don't ask, just go and order, ask for it sweet, then taste and understand. This is the best, your day is set and nothing is going to bother you all day long. I am inHouston for work a few times a year, and one of these is mandatory on arrival. I just bought three to take to friends back at the workplace. Add some pastellitos, the tres leches, flan, the Cuban breads and cakes, everything it worth trying once, or twice, or more.

The best Cuban in Houston. Besides the amazing food, you cannot beat the prices. Quality and quantity!

I'm Colombian but I will say there is nothing that makes me happier than a fresh Cuban cafe con leche in the mornings! I moved to the area almost 2 years ago and kept missing this place. I now visit weekly to get a coffee and if you get here around 8am they have fresh hot pastelitos! My favorite ones are guayaba con queso! But they have quite the selection of pastelitos available. Along with pastelitos they have a small menu of quick cuban foods, think panes cubanos. The shop specializes in baked goods so I highly recommend purchasing some sweets and coffee when you are there. The staff is very friendly and always helpful with recommendations and if you have any questions. They have a very small seating area so I usually grab my things to go. But if you are lucky enough to find a seat it smells incredible all day long!

The food was good, the sandwich is huge and flavorful. Chicken and picadillo empanadas were my favorite, the lechón one was very dry The service is good, quickly and friendly

I left my card at the bakery. Tried calling back when I realized I had left it but had no luck getting them on the phone. Since it was the holidays they didn't open for several days. The card wasn't used immediately but it was used several times a few days later . Luckily the CC company was able to identify it as Fraud and a few purchases later it was put on stop. I called the store to talk to the manager about this and he was very dismissive.Per our request he checked the cameras and within Two minutes he called us back saying "it wasn't here, the card could've been lost at another place" and he's right, it's could have happened somewhere else but it didn't bc I didn't go anywhere else and I tried calling them immediately. I wasn't asking for money as the CC was covering the fraud but I was for sure expecting a different reaction than what I got. You would think the manager would really want to investigate and be able to remove access from the register from whoever did it in order to avoid something like this to happen again but he wasn't interested. So disappointed! I will not be returning back to this location. Coffee here is LEGIT! It's is definitely the Best thing in the whole bakery . They have a huge variety of Caribbean pastries and a separated section of Mexican bread. I can't speak about the Mexican bread as we only had sweets from the Caribbean side . The quesitos or pastel de quesos were my favorite but I have had better ones. The Cuban sandwich was good . The Sandwich de biste had good flavor but the meat needed to be tenderized- save your teeth and don't order this . The croquettes were fried to order and tasted ok. The location is super small. It has two tables with 4 chairs each. Service is slow and food is overpriced

FOOD/DRINKS - Rollito de guayabana: 2/5 -- too sweet, soaked with a syrup so the crumb is too wet, the jelly-like exterior is kind of gritty - Pastel de guayabana: 5/5 -- lots of filling, buttery and flaky pastry - Flan cheesecake: 4/5 -- very sweet - Cafe con leche: 5/5 -- strong, full-bodied coffee; good frothed milk; customizable sweetness (slightly sweet was perfect) AMBIANCE - Tables are in the center with the pastry cases surrounding - Small shop SERVICE - Friendly and fast

    Everything was so good

Tastes just like a Cuban Bakery you'd find on Calle Ocho in Miami. Everything was fresh and delicious and I will definitely be back! I had the Cuban Sandwich- amazing. Also took home some meat pastelitos, cheese pastelitos, papa relleno, croquetas. Next time I'll get a cafe con leche and take a loaf of Cuban bread home.

Ok so I originally went to a business next door however I'm glad I popped in! The pastelitos de queso were amazing! So much so I might turn around and go get more! Lolol maybe not today but I will be back! They had a ton of other options but these sounded yummy and my oh my were they! The place is small but so worth it!

I also ordered their strawberry lemonade, which had a thicker consistency for juice. It was refreshing and had just the right amount of sweetness and tartness. Their drinks are solid. I tried the Cuban sandwich, which was okay in my opinion. As I dove right into it, the pork flavor was interesting & every few pieces of the outer meat were a tad bit hard. When I ate it later for dinner though, the sandwich tasted so much better for some reason. Lol maybe cuz everything was marinating and softening idk. It's good, but I wouldn't order this sandwich again. I prefer chicken. I tried some of my dad's fricasa de cerdo. Loved it! Reminded me of a stew, but I would not drink the whole bowl because it is on the saltier side. It was served extra hot, and the chicken was tender. For the sides, my dad got the fried ripe plantains (sweet and soft) and the fried yucca sticks (tastes like potatoes - crispy on the outside), which paired nicely with a garlic sauce. Service was great! They are very warm and kind to their customers. I highlyyyy recommend this place to anyone looking for good Cuban cuisine. It's never too busy or loud when we go. Plenty of parking!

The space was a bit bigger (they've since redesigned it smaller), but the crowds were smaller. Success hasn't tarnished their food. It was a very rainy and soggy afternoons and the place was packed.
