Went here for a curl hair style for a wedding for $45... gave her a $50... and they didn't give any changes. Was an easy 10 mins curl. Was going to tip her $3... the curls didn't even last. Bummer. I live in Union City and happened upon B&B Salon a few years ago (so this review is long over due!) I wasn't used to leaving a salon without having to hold back tears, so it came as quite an unexpected surprise after my first visit when I realized that I'd just been given what might have been the best haircut of my life!! My sister was living in Sebastopol at the time, and she was so jealous of my haircut that she started driving down from Sebastopol just to see Ruby! Next was my niece, and now my mom who comes down from Seattle a few times a year, and actually waits to get her haircut until she comes to visit me. :) Ruby is THAT GOOD. She's also amazing with color and highlights, which my sister discovered, and now I hope Ruby never retires because I'm certain I won't be lucky enough to find someone as talented and all around wonderful. B&B not BB. I got lost and went to wrong salon for a 930a appt. But all was well and took me without any questions. Ruby and her husband worked on my hair for shampoo, haircut, blow, and full hilights. I'm a very impatient customer usually but it was well worth it. Hair came out better than i expected - back to blonde for the summer. Prices were reasonable- and given the attention needed for best outcome. Will be back again for touch ups again! This place used to be City Salon but I found out from the lady that just cut my hair that B&B Salon is about 4 months old. This place is in between the laundromat and Sheng Kee Bakery. There's a huge parking lot right outside but it looks like the laundry mat customers got to it first so I ended up parking around the corner right by Wells Fargo Bank. There's more parking in front of Marina Foods and you will have a short walk. Their sign right outside shows haircut at $10 ("& up" in small letters) and I paid $25 (plus tip) for my A-Line cut. I came early, around 10:30am on Fri. July 5th which is a holiday for some people. I was lucky enough to get the last open chair for a haircut because another customer came in a little after me for a haircut and was told to wait ten minutes. There was only one other customer already getting a haircut before me. The lady that cut my hair spoke very little English. I showed her a picture of the haircut that I would like, explaining how I like my hair to be long in the front and very short in the back. Unfortunately, I got a haircut where my front is cut shorter than I would like which is how most hair salon seems to prefer to cut my hair. The picture showed straight hair but as always, they try to curl my hair in. I also came in with a side part and she styled my hair with the center part. Not a lot of people can get away with a center part including me. So, my search is on for a salon that can cut my hair the way I like instead of how they think would look good on me. I came here for the first time to fix my haircut and have set appointments with other family members needing a haircut. Ruby used to work for the BB Hair Salon across the street 4 years ago. But then the owner decided to buy the hair salon at the Decoto Asian Plaza next to Sheng Kee Bakery and the Ramen Shu/ Chicken n' Rice restaurant. Her expertise is cutting hair, but she can do other services like perm cut, hair cuts, fix other people's mistakes when cutting hair, highlight, color dye your hair, waxing on every part of the body to remove any hair like eyebrows, under arm, legs. Shampoo. Her services are pretty reasonable like $25 and up compared to other high end hair salons. Ruby is very friendly, polite and tries to understand the customers' request. She also knows the causes and what customers should not do. Before getting a hair cut - shampoo your hair but no conditioner. If you are doing any color dyes and highlights - don't wash your hair, so chemicals won't get through your scalp. She even has a greater understanding of how to fix messed-up hair cuts made by other hair stylists who don't how to cut your hair. I am fully satisfied when I saw my sister, mom liked their hair cuts from her. So they got her business card to get an appointment with her. If you needed a hair cut and do something with your hair for everyday thing or a special occasion. Call Ruby for an appointment, or you could walk-in on the weekday. Search for B and B Hair Salon near Sheng Kee bakery and Ramen Shu restaurant at Decoto. This is a 1 lady hair stylist who has expertise but works alone. Just had one of the worst haircuts of my life. It's a shame because I went I few months earlier and loved it. I thought I'd try a new style of more layers. Big mistake. Wanted face framing layers and gave me the worst, most blunt cut ever. A red flag was the hairdresser saying to the next customer "This will only take 15 minutes". It was my fault for staying after that. It's going to take months to grow this out. So just a warning if you want layers this is NOT the place, but if you want a straight cut then this is the place for you... but honestly go somewhere else. read more

Gave this place several tries because of the convenient location. Cuts were quick but not always even on the sides. Every time the lady Ruby cut my hair, I got red rashes on the back of my head that took a few days to heal. It doesn't happens anywhere else I go. After my last cut, the rashes didn't heal, it was nasty. I ended up seeing a dermatologist, it was a fungal infection. I was so disgusted. She goes from customer to customer, yet I've never seen her wash her hands or clean the clippers. Doubt any of her other equipment gets cleaned properly. Pretty sure that's breaking some laws. Ruby used to work at the original BB Hair Salon right off Decoto (Union City location), not to confuse you with the Fremont location - they are ran by different business owners. I've know Ruby since she was still working at BB which is right across the street from this location; this new location that has opened up is called B&B, (same owner as BB Hair in Union City). In plaza where Marina Market is located. Ruby has moved locations, so she's no longer at the OTHER location. Ruby is the main stylist here who does hair, waxing, facial, etc. Ruby has taken over this new salon for a few months. Not all her clients know that she has RELOCATED - so you will find her here if all you don't already know. Ruby is very personable, she always listens to your needs, and she goes out of her way to ensure you leave the salon satisfied. Also, for everyone who is looking for affordable eyebrows - Ruby is the eyebrow queen! Eyebrows are one of those things you never want to mess up! She has always been careful, and precise with her skills from shaping to trimming. Ruby is also the best massage hair therapist! If you are also looking for a clean wash, and style - she is very efficient and takes her time. You literally feel like you are in a luxurious SPA. She makes all your needs feel special in every way. Given the location isn't as busy as other, there is barely any wait or none at all! So if you're looking to drop in without appointment, or even call in for last minute appointments - Ruby ensures to accommodate you right away (without long wait times).
