I've had my haircuts done by Lori at Excellent Hair and she's the sweetest! For the past few years, I've always been afraid of getting rid of length so I ended up doing my own layers and varying cuts at home, which didn't really end so well as I would botch my own head. I have very thick, wavy Asian hair that I find difficulty in managing, and Lori was great in following everything that I asked for in a cut! I love the layers and blowout she did for my hair. She's also great in making sure I'm comfortable and asking ahead of time if it would be okay for her to proceed with doing something to my head. Ty is super nice and very communicative. The salon is pretty clean. Cons: First of all its expensive compare to union city and what kind of service you get. I had layer with front bangs and it was $65. They dont blow dry and set up the hair after hair cut. So you wouldn't know how it looks if you have a curly or wavy hair. The layer cut was ok but I am not happy with the front bangs. I would suggest to go somewhere else. read more

I am terrible at getting my hair trimmed every six months. I have gone up to a year, or longer (eeeeek!) without setting foot at a hair salon. Tsk tsk I know. I come to Excellent Hair to revive and refresh my hair of its sufferance from damage, dryness, and dullness. The outcome is always satisfactory, never disappointing. Setting up an appointment has always been a breeze. If they are full for the day, I simply set up a different day/time that works out, but it's never too far out from the calendar. Aside from a fresh haircut, I look forward to getting my hair washed because the head massage is sooooo relaxing. Do note though that I literally just get my hair cut when coming here. I get the dead ends chopped off, however long deems needed, and I'm done. I have never gone here to get a drastic change in hair style. Granted, I have worn my hair long with layers in the past fifteen years. Though this place is not fancy inside with gaudy mirrors, chandeliers, or an elaborate waiting area, the owners keep their shop well maintained and orderly. The price point is yet another positive point to consider. For less than fifty dollars including tip, Excellent Hair really does live up to its name. Excellent! read more

I've been coming here for maybe the past 3 years or so and every time I come in, I walk out satisfied. Ty and Lori are both such excellent hair stylists and I don't know who's my favorite. They have each cut and styled my hair just how I like it. It makes me want to come back time and time again. The location is a bit small and though walk ins are welcome they tend to get busy in the holiday seasons so I would recommend calling for an appointment. Was suggested to me by a friend and I'm so glad I took the chance. My daughter who has been trying to grow her hair out left super happy with the cute and service she received. Ty gave her a cut which opened the door to me making the next appointment. Salon staff was super friendly and respectful to how they spoke and addressed it's clients. Yes they did do take walk-in but since they do tend to be busy making an appointment is a plus. My typical appointment tend to be for my four kids all on one day. I'm always looking for a kid friendly salon. Quality of work matters. No child should walk around with a bad hair cut. There was only one stylist TY was able to accommodate us as the other stylist were booked. He didn't rush, checked in with me to make sure sure he cut was as I wanted. I do tend to be little picky with my girls hair. He didn't just take a spray bottle to wet the hair a quick wash which helps to get a precise cut. Ty was the best. Kept my kids happy and always had a smile even at the end of the day. I love when a salon is well kept, clean and doesn't have hair flying everywhere. A selective variety of products which shows a stylist uses selective products that they believe in, and won't sell something to make a sale. I would highly recommend this salon. Price was fair. I got my hair cut here for the first time ever. I am quite happy with how Lori cut my hair. I have always worn A Line but not many can do it the way I like it. Others can't seem to get the angle properly and it ends up looking like a bob. I was told by the lady who asked me if I wanted a shampoo while I was waiting that it was $5 so I decided to get it done since Lori looks like she wasn't done with the one she's working on. The shampoo was quite relaxing and I almost fell asleep. I didn't get the lady's name who shampooed my hair but it was so worth the $5 because my hair felt so soft and smells so good. I knew I was quoted $30 just for the haircut but for some reason, I was billed for $40 (not including the tip) and not the $35 that everyone here on Yelp is paying here. I did make a 3pm appointment on a Thursday but had to wait around 15 more minutes to get called. Lori did thank me for waiting. I will definitely make an appointment because they look quite busy even for a weekday afternoon. Lori is very good and she even used a straightener when she was almost done. A bit disappointed to say the least. Maybe Lori is better with thick hair? Well that's not even true because not only did she thin my hair out way too much, she also put way too many layers in my teen's hair. I was then charged $70 for a haircut my teen can't stand and is absolutely miserable with. At a loss because now all that can be done to fix this is wait for all the hair to grow back again which thankfully will happen in time. Seriously overpriced and we didn't have the same experience that others did sadly. read more

This review is long overdue, this was about 5 months ago...Agh I really hate to give an ok review to this place, but I gotta be honest. Yes Ty and Lori are very friendly and yes they do a good job. Reason why I am knocking off 2 stars is because I had an appointment and I arrived about 5 min early and was told that Lori was with someone else and she was almost done. It was a good half an hour before Lori was done. They apologized for making me wait, but what's the point of having an appointment if they're not going to honor it? The bad part too was that the next client after me came in at her appointment time and had to wait because Lori was with me....Lori was rushed and sent me to Ty to get my hair washed while she attended her other appointment. The lady was apparently getting highlights because Lori put the color and foil in her hair before coming over to me and finishing up with me. I hate going to a hair salon that double books and makes me feel rushed. I am a momma of 3 kids that never leave me alone so when I go get my hair done that's my time to myself. The last thing I want to feel is rushed!! I want to feel relaxed and pampered. There are many good salons out there, so I'll think about maybe coming back to this one, IF they improve the way they schedule clients. read more

I've always seen this place since it's right next to my house and decided to give it a try! I needed a trim badly and they squeezed me in last minute! Once I got there I did have to wait for about half an hour, I was getting upset but got over it after my hair was cut haha! He washed my hair for me before cutting it which was nice and relaxing! (Unexpected but loved it) I also got a blow dry at the end (it's extra but worth it). I don't know what his name is, but he made my hair look nice and healthy! I came in again (because I'm so in love with this place) and now they have another lady working, I notice she's mostly reception/shampoo station she has a short bob and wow she gave me the BEST shampooing of my life! She massaged my scalp and just made this experience 10x better! Lori never disappoints she always listens to what you want done and gives suggestions then gives you exactly what you agreed on there's never a doubt in my mind that I won't like my haircut! She knows her way around hair with those scissors she's incredibly quick and precise before I knew it I had the perfect haircut and blow dry! The overall experience is the best I've had at ANY hair salon definitely give them a try! I finally found THE place! I scheduled an appointment last minute (15 minutes early), good thing it's a Thursday so Ty was nice enough to give me my haircut. Right when I walk in, everyone was so nice. I was greeted right away. Ty shampooed and conditioned my hair and he even massaged my scalp. He asked what I wanted and he made sure that he knew what haircut I wanted before he started. I have long straight hair and wanted to keep the length but I also wanted layers. I had a two hour lunch break and spontaneously decided I needed a haircut. I called about 5 other salons and was told they didn't have appts available within the hour. To my luck, Ty from "Excellent Hair" said they had a spot available for me. I was a bit weary walking into a place called "Excellent Hair" because it sounded so cliche but I'm glad I was led there! I showed Lori a picture of the style I wanted and she warned me how short my hair would be in the back. Once we agreed on the style, she went to work! I have never seen someone cut hair so quickly with precision!! I loved her confidence! After my haircut, she blow dried and straight ironed my hair. As she styled my hair, she continued to smooth out my hair with her layering shears to give my hair the perfect texture, shape and volume. I really appreciated how much time and energy she put into my haircut. I've gotten an A-Line haircut elsewhere and have never seen it look this good! I'd highly recommend this salon, especially Lori! A decent hair cut place. Came here because of high yelp reviews. I was expecting to have my hair wash and cut for $25 dollars since that is what everyone say on yelp. Nope~ the lady (the owner I sure) told me $25 cut and $30 if wash and cut. Very disappointed, I said I just want the cut. They do still conditioner you like the yelpers mention. Again the owner cut my hair, I think because she was the only stylist there. Great lady. Very friendly. She asked you what you what before doing anything to your hair. She is fast and efficient as well. I like how my cut turn out. The only problem is she tend the flip the hair a lot while she cuts and couple times she flipped my hair right onto my cheek! Ouch! My little guy wears his hair a little long but when it grows out it can really get in his eyes and can be very bothersome. We needed a haircut for him fast, and decided to try this place out based on the reviews. Good thing we called to make an appt (same day) as others recommended because I saw quite a few walk-ins turned away and asked to come back at a different time. Ty was the one who cut my son's hair and he is super nice. I showed him a picture from one of their books but as he finished it just looked like a bowl haircut. He was patient with me as I asked him to taper here and texture there to make it even and symmetrical (and not so bowl-like) and he kept saying "that's just the way his hair grows" ...but isn't part of the skill of cutting hair is to know how to maneuver around the challenges unique to each person's hair (type, growth pattern, shape of head)? It was a cheap haircut ($11 or $12 I think?) but I wasn't willing to walk out with a lopsided or bowl haircut on my little dude. Really great people and a well-kept salon, but I don't think I'll be back to get my son's haircut and definitely not for my own. :( read more
