This review has been a long time coming. Honestly, part of me didn't want to leave one because this place is already busy enough, and I still want to be able to book my last-minute haircut appointments But great work deserves recognition. A little background about me, cutting hair has always been a hobby of mine. I used to cut my own hair, my kids hair, and my brothers' hair, so I'm really picky when it comes to fades and detail work. Cindy has been my go to for a while now, and she's amazing at what she does. I get a haircut about every 10 days, and every time I leave feeling like a brand new person. A fresh haircut really does make a difference, it's basically makeup for guys I walk out looking like I suddenly have my life together. She listens carefully to what you want and always gets it right. She's also very easy to talk to, which makes every visit enjoyable. Honestly, half the time it feels like I'm getting therapy with a fade, no judgment, just clean cuts and emotional support. Zheng is also excellent. I used to get my hair cut by her before she went on leave, and both of them are incredibly skilled. Honestly, better than a lot of the expensive barber shops out there charging "luxury beard oil" prices. I was disappointed with my eyebrow service. After the appointment, I noticed wax residue left on my eyelids and the area was not properly cleaned up afterward. I'm also pretty unhappy with the shaping I asked for a bit thinner of a brow which she did do, but she completely changed my soft arch into a sharp arch, which she should have discussed with me first. I HAD thick, beautiful, straight, Nicki Minaj bangs & the lady that cut them RUINEDDDD it by THINNING them out & making them SOO un-even! I also hated the fact that she had the scissors sliding all over my face while snipping away at my bangs! I can't comment on any other barber, other than Pat ( I always ask for him) He does fades pretty well. I'm sure everyone else is good too, as long as you know what you're looking for. Disclaimer: As of January 1, 2025, fades are now $20, while non fades for men are still $16. The notice is at the front desk. I'm okay with this. It takes a lot longer to do fades, and it's more difficult. I get my money's worth at $20 + tipping. Prices for men's barber cuts are pretty affordable here compared to others. For the people complaining about the $25 spend requirement for using a credit card... They have this notice at the front desk. It's not a scam! We all know credit card companies charge merchants, and this hurts smaller/local businesses especially. Just bring cash always if you don't want to use credit. read more

On top of that, there was a lot of unprofessional behavior--staff seemed more focused on gossiping than helping customers. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. A cheaper dependable place to get a haircut if you're being budget friendly. I was able to walk in on a Saturday and wait for a minute - it helped that I called ahead asking if they were busy. They are very decent for the price. I was a little concerned with the smell when the lady applied the color on my hair. The smell was very strong that my nose was burning a little bit, I had to ask for a mask. Not sure if it was the quality of the hair color, or I was just allergic to it, that never happened to me before. The employees including the manager were very friendly. read more

Stopped by Hair Express after work since it's close by. When I came in, they were fairly busy but I was greeted quickly and waited maybe about 5 minutes. Tina greeted me and took me back to the chair and I showed her one inspo picture and told her I wanted layers with face framing pieces. She knew exactly what I wanted, and I feel like she was super quick. I was in and out within 45 minutes. She styled my hair and we both loved how it came out. My total was $35 before tip. I wish I could give this business more than one star because there were a couple very nice employees working, but our overall experience was bad. We came upon Hair Express while looking for a nearby salon for my son to get a quick haircut. My son, who is trans, has short hair and usually goes to a barber but this place was open and on our way to running errands so we gave it a chance. The ladies working at the front and the lady cutting his hair were very friendly and welcoming so we thought it would be a great experience. The lady at the desk informed me that my son's haircut was $16 which is the price for a men's cut. I pulled out money to pay when the gentleman cutting hair at the front (assuming the owner) stopped her and said to charge $25 for a woman's haircut. He did not speak to me, nor acknowledge me standing just a few feet away from him, but instead directed her to charge for a woman's cut and that was that! I asked why we were being overcharged for my son's haircut and the reason given was that he had more hair?? The female employee appeared to recognize my confusion and frustration with the situation and apologized profusely. The male stylist never looked at me or spoke to me at any point but insisted she charge us the extra $9. Conveniently, the male stylist was cutting other male clients hair at the same same but charging them $16. We were disgusted by the treatment but paid the $25 plus tip and left the now unwelcoming business and won't be back. read more

This is actually my second time getting my haircut here, and it was just as good as the first time. I went to Tina for a high and tight fade. She did a great job (very quick as well). The reason for 4 stars is that I had to ask her to tighten up the sides a bit; she was more than willing to make it right without any fuss. Haircut was only $14 and they don't charge extra for lineup. Many Black/African Americans are paranoid to have their haircut by Asians, but I'll definitely vouch for this place! read more

I am currently writing this as I am sitting here inside the salon. I usually come here for a 'hot oil' treatment every 2 months or so. I'm usually the one who calls in for a the same treatment. I don't think I will ever return here as they did such a below par job. The first lady who had me handles things with a very heavy hand. The second lady who washed my hair did not execute washing very well in comparison to the last times that I went. Water was getting everywhere it shouldn't have been in such as: in my ear and all over my forehead. They seem to be in a rush and wrapped my hair very poorly, which resulted into water seeping into my shirt front and back. I am just unhappy with the process of it all which is really disappointing. I was dying for a haircut, because my long, damaged hair kept getting tangled. Hair Express is really good at picking up their phone, which I really appreciate. I called to see if they accept walk ins and debit cards, and they said yes to both. I went inside, and the lady asked if I had just called. She jokingly said she has been waiting for me and seated me immediately. This was on a Thursday night at around 7pm. Cindy was my barber. She asked if I wanted 1, 2 or 3 inches cut. I went with 2.5 inches. TIP#1: Under-exaggerate how much you want cut off. Once they cut off specified inches (it's actually longer than what you think an inch would be), they cut more off to style it and what not, so keep this in mind if you would like to keep a long length (like many girls do). I really liked the fact that she took her time cutting my hair, paying attention to the little details, rather than trying to rush through the job. Within about 20 minutes, my hair was normal and healthy again! Hooray! TIP#2: Don't take it personal if someone tells you that you could use a service of theirs. Cindy commented that my eyebrows need to be fixed up. To some people, they may think that this is rude. To them, they think they are helping you out, trying to make you look the best possible, and/or they're just trying to squeeze more money out of you, haha. So instead of getting offended, just say no thank you and move along. I'm happy with my haircut and would come back! read more

In short, this place is just under average. I would say that pretty much all the barbers except Cindy are of the same skill set. If you are coming here for male or female haircut than I would recommend asking for Cindy. If you need a quick and cheap haircut then this is the place. For male haircuts this place has a huge caveat. If you are getting a male haircut than it's about $16 only if you have cash. If you don't have cash and are using card then it's $25. HUGE SCAME! You have to essentially sweet talk the register lady to make her not ever charge you. She says "my boss says only card payments over $25." In my eyes there's shouldn't be any reason for them not to use a card payment for the regular $16. I make her charge my card the usual price and don't tip because I'm not spending the extra $9 dollars for a dumb management opinion and have tipped well over anything worth it in the past. read more
