Des Moines location is my go-to butcher when I want a quality piece of red meat. I feel kind of special when visiting this location because I am remembered by name, I know I am going to receive a quality piece of meat. Any beef lover will tell you beef purchased from this butcher shop is exceptional to any beef purchased in a conventional grocery store. I have purchased everything from my Christmas roast beast to my ground meat for chili. My next project is braised short ribs...can't wait to get back. I am incredibly disappointed with B&E. I went in a few weeks before Christmas to order a fresh duck, thinking I would help my local butcher out. They told me they would have no problem, and I went on my merry way. I showed up the day before Christmas to pick it up, and to my surprise, it was simply the same pre-packaged frozen duck from 2000 miles away that they have in their freezers. Apparently their idea of "fresh duck" and "good service" is simply moving a frozen duck to their cooler to thaw for me. The kicker: they charged me $38. I was running out of time so I begrudgingly paid and went off. Only later do I find that the same exact ducks from the same exact farm in Indiana are sold for $14 in other supermarkets. Having a neighborhood butcher is truly a privilege, so I can't say that I'm not somewhat self-invested in writing this review--I definitely want them to keep doing what they're doing! The quality of their meats and seafood is reliably high, and they'll get custom cuts for you if you give them enough heads up. I would like it if they emphasized more which of their meats and seafood were locally sourced, grass fed, and from what farms/seas, but that's a nitpick. We have used B&E Meats & Seafood for the past 4 years for our salmon filleting, smoking, and vacuum packing. If we could give them more than 5 stars, we would. They have been extremely professional, good listeners who have delivered the fish exactly as ordered. I had a terrible experience at the Queen Anne location and with the social media management. They had no masks on their staff. I called ahead the day before to order and pay my bill to limit interaction as much as possible. Explained I was autoimmune and vulnerable. They wouldn't take my card in advance or deliver to my car. They did nothing to manage customers in the store. The store was busy with some customers wearing masks, others that didn't. Their staff was working very close together easily passing spray back and forth. The guy who rang up my bill literally stood with his mouth uncovered leaning over my head while I signed. His mouth was less than 2 feet from my face. When I privately wrote to them in a Messenger the response was very Trumpian saying their staff had the "right" to do whatever they want. They weren't going to enforce masks. I'm not going back! read more

I'm not a meat eater but yet I adore this place! The guys are incredibly friendly, knowledgable and generous with their samples. I personally come here for their smoked salmon selection. The best stuff I've ever put into my pescatarian mouth! Along with the knowledge of where my 'meat' came from, freshness, and how to store/cook it all rolled into one local neighborhood shop. Yes, everything may be a bit higher priced, but isn't most quality meat anyway? I think its worth the extra $$ knowing you're getting the best than most stores like Safeway. read more

B&E meats is a great family owned shop, I LOVE this place. They are all excellent - every location. They let you try items before you buy, the people at the meat counters are all really really friendly. My favorite item here is the dry aged ribeye steak. I have probably had everything they sell here, the prime rib I have had has been incredible, the smoked salmon was incredible, The stuffed chicken cordon bleu was great too. Some of my friends stop by for the jerkey. I would challenge anyone to find a better butcher with a friendlier staff- not possible. read more

I've never been in a butcher shop before and today we passed it on our way to Bounty Kitchen. We decided to go in to check it out after our delicious brunch at Bounty Kitchen and we were happily greeted by the staff. They asked us what we're looking for and told them that honestly we're just looking around since we just saw their store today. We walked out with Candied Salmon, bacon wrapped scallops and shrimp, sausages and peppered bacon. Ahh, the butcher had us taste the candied salmon and we walked away with it. It was so good! Try checking out this place. Since we have brunch at BK almost every weekend, I can foresee us coming to this place every weekend as well :) read more

I called ahead and the gentleman working named Avery, not only had some of the things I was looking for, but also connected me with a supplier whom carried the product as well so I could get large amounts delivered to my doorstep. It is with sadness that I post this review about their Newcastle store. I have been a loyal customer for years but the behavior of this store during the pandemic has been disgraceful and shows that they do not care about their community, customers or their fellow employees. In May/June when I went in their store when the mask mandate first came out for food stores I told them that they needed to be wearing masks and they lied and said it was only recommended. That was false which I confirmed with the Health department. I sent an e-mail to their website which was not answered. One of their staff told me their shifts were too long to wear masks. I went in an month later and still no masks on most of the staff. Neither were they mandating it for their customers although most were compliant. My wife went in yesterday to see if they were possibly compliant yet and walked out after seeing that one of the staff had it below their nose and others were not complaint as well. I guess my switch to Golden Steer in Bellevue will have to be permanent. Shame on B and E! read more

We had beef filets from B&E for Thanksgiving and they were beyond delicious. They had wonderful flavor and could, literally, be cut with a fork. The only downside is that I don't live closer. This was exceptional. Christmas ham will be from B&E, too, as it has been in the past. They never disappoint, and really, how many times can you say that? Thank you B&E! read more

Excellent butcher with a great selection of meat and fish. Just picked up some steaks this week and they were incredibly tender. Trying their pre-prepared cuban pork roast wrapped in plantain tonight. You can also walk through an adjoining door to the excellent wine merchant McCarthy & Schiering next door. I don't know about the other stores but the Newcastle one is a tight ship. We started dropping by B & E a couple of years ago when our family decided to make healthier meat choices. The Quality of beef, salmon and chicken at B & E is outstanding. The Jerky is savory, sweet, smokey, and just downright tasty. If all you've ever had is store jerky you're in for a real treat. The Bison is the leanest and our personal favorite - but you really can't go wrong here, just don't get addicted cause it's hard to crack. Subnote: Our Asian relatives were in town from the east coast (NYC, Chicago) they got hooked on the jerky bad and ended up buying 25 lbs and shipping it home. Hams, some pre marinated meats and try the potato sausage for god's sake. Marrow bones for the most savory and leanest healthiest bone marrow you've ever had. . . . The Newcastle Staff is pretty darn good and reliably friendly (we miss Roman tho!) but more than likely if you've been in before they can remember your name and what you ordered last time. Store detail we really appreciate was the overall CLEANLINESS and the careful way the fresh meats are handled and packaged. The staff is conscience about this and BELIEVE ME we notice.* Other: Food Compliments: Decent selection of red and white wines btwn. $11 - $30 each and a moderate election of craft beers and old fashioned sodas for the kids. Pickles (probably the only 'meh' here but - hey it's a butcher shop. Quick BBQ supplies if you need 'em There is Smith Brothers milk and half/half and Beecher's Cheese in the large fridge. One commenter mentioned the Burien store service lacked somewhat - we've only visted there twice but both times they did seem a little short and quick to get you dealt with - we were the only ones there. I have tried candied salmon in many places, and this shop has the best!. And the teriyaki tri - tip is amazing. I make a teriyaki beef gravy out of the drippings to pour over the roast and mashed potatoes. So happy to have them in Queen Anne. read more

Meh. The higher end steaks are legit, but most of the rest didn't impress. Especially sad to see they offer little/no pasture-raised pork, grass-finished beef, etc. Strange, given the market on top of the hill. They do sell quality lump charcoal, but Sutter Home & Hearth is maybe a 10 minute drive and sells the Ranch T for a few bucks less. read more

The service was so warm and helpful.....the employees all looked happy which makes us think they are treated well. They all seem to know their stuff and are very service-oriented. We received a great value with a special they advertised; the steaks and crab legs were of superior quality. I can't tell you how much I love this neighborhood spot. My family goes there nearly every week for our meat, and we get top notch customer service every single time. Honestly, we haven't had even an average customer experience there once-- always stellar. The guys are informative, helpful, patient and just your all-around nice guys. I usually bring my toddler son, who is a total handful, and the guys are always so sweet rolling with his craziness, quick with a high five and a joke. We truly feel good patronizing this business and look forward to our visits with the staff. If that's not enough, the meat is delicious, sustainable and varied.
