Paella
Matt L.

If there was a 4.5/5 stars, that's what I'd give RockCreek. My only knocks were that they changed their happy hour which removed the mussels bruschetta and service seemed a bit slow. The servers were very nice, but it felt like we had to ask flag them down when there were only a few tables at the time. Now to the food, everything we ordered was from their new happy hour (at least new to me). The sandwich, fries, and oysters I would order again. The paella was good, but the rice could have had a bit more crisp for me. The calamari was just ok. I would rather try something else next time. Overall good restaurant with a solid happy hour!

Fries and calamari

Came for our first time during happy hour because we heard great things. Was promptly greeted and seated as they were not very busy on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. Server was great and explained the menu, bringing out food promptly, coursing each dish out and clearing our table when needed. As for the food, it was nothing too special. We got the raw oysters, grilled oysters, black garlic Caesar salad, tuna tartare, fries, and fried calamari. The hot food could've come out a bit hotter rather than room temp and some of the other dishes were lacking salt and acidity. The fries were too heavily salted in my opinion. Overall, a great atmosphere to enjoy seafood and get together with friends or a date but would appreciate the food being a bit tastier for the price point.

Came in for happy hour on a quiet Tuesday night and had a great experience, as usual. Rock Creek continues to deliver bright, flavorful food. We ordered some of our go-tos -- hamachi crudo, tuna tartare, and calamari -- and everything was spot on. The vinegar dill fries are exceptional: thin, super crispy, and loaded with seasoning (honestly hard to stop eating). We also tried the loaded fish sandwich and the cornmeal-battered lingcod -- both solid choices. Spicy margarita lived up to its name with a nice kick. It was pretty dead when we arrived around 5pm, with only one other larger table seated, which made for a relaxed, easygoing happy hour. Always a dependable spot when you're craving seafood done right.

Crispy Fried Calamari

RockCreek in Fremont is exactly the kind of seafood spot I wish I had in my neighborhood. The happy hour goes absolutely insane -- the menu is big and most items are more than half off, so if I lived nearby I'd honestly be here all the time. The oysters were extremely fresh and briny in a good way, literally tasted like the sea. The calamari wasn't in the usual style I'm used to, but it was still tasty and interesting to try. My surprise favorite was the steamed clams: super flavorful broth, served with a half piece of bread that made the whole thing feel very rustic and comforting.

Such a good experience! We had a 11:30 reservation on a Saturday, and the place was pretty empty (more people at around 1pm) Surprisingly, the fried chicken w buttermilk pancakes was amazing!! The ginger chili crisps, perfectly crispy chicken, and fluffy pancakes - a dish I would come back for! Our server was also great! She was kind and balanced when to check in w us/fill water etc perfectly FYI there is a 23% service charge

Oysters Fresh and bright; the vinegar and shallots were a classic, clean pairing that let the oyster shine. Fig and Lardon Loved the balance between the fig and bacon with that bright, tangy dressing. Would've been even better if the figs were roasted for a deeper flavor. Cauliflower Salad Nutty and pleasant, but a little one-note for me. Could use more herbal or aromatic depth. Baked Oysters My favorite dish of the day. Creamy, garlicky, buttery perfection - rich but still fresh. I could've eaten a whole order myself. Blacken Fish & Gritz Beautifully cooked fish with a roasted, garlicky sauce that brought acidity and warmth. The grits were smooth and creamy -- total comfort food. Enchiladas Really good flavor with crisp edges and just the right amount of sauce. The shrimp was subtle, i wish there were bigger chunks. Overall RockCreek nails the balance of cozy and elevated seafood dining. Fresh flavors, thoughtful dishes, and a warm atmosphere. Staff were super helpful and friendly!

We came to Rock Creek on a Friday evening, and the place was very busy! We only got bar seats. We ordered two starters: the Barron Point Manila Clams and the Barbecued Spanish Octopus. The octopus was the highlight--perfectly charred, served with nuts, and wonderfully seasoned. The clams were pretty standard, came with a lovely clam soup and sourdough bread. For our main, we shared a seabass. You could taste the freshness and the pure ocean flavor of the fish. It was very tender and juicy. The desserts were just okay, nothing special. Overall, the food was good, and the place has a great atmosphere. The only downside is that it's pretty overpriced, despite the good food.

Loveee this place. My friends took their mom here for her birthday and I tagged along because I love seafood. We order a bunch of dishes and mostly did family style. My friends order the oyster shooters, I did not so I cant tell you how it was haha. We got hamachi crudo, black garlic caeser salad, oyster brock a fella, pastis baked barron point oysters, the inlet mussels; my friend and I split the hawaiian swordfish and wagyu short ribs. Everyone else at the table ordered the chilean sea bass. The food was sooo good! I really like the hawaiian swordfish, it had such great flavor and the meat was tender. Everyone was ravign about the seabass. Apparently, the way it was dressed reminded everyone of vietnamese sweet and sour fish sauce. We had a great time. We ended the meal with all the desserts haha. I didnt have any of the smore or beignets but the key lime was delicious. Our server was really nice, he was a bit sassy but I loved it hahahah. I'm sure I'll be back!!

Good luck finding a parking place anywhere close to the restaurant

No parking is provided by the restaurant and no valet option. I guess Seattle is like some cities that have eliminated minimum required parking spots for restaurants. The reason they can't do valet is because there is no street parking reasonably within three blocks. Every spot on the side streets was already taken with cars; presumably by people living in the multi unit housing surrounding area. If you don't take an Uber, it's a nightmare. We really liked the ambience of the restaurant itself. Wait staff were very friendly and helpful. Everyone seems to work as a team. However, service was pretty slow until we ordered entrees as our waiter was so laid-back. It was hard to get his attention. We started with the calamari Kari Out. Pretty cool idea to put the calamari in a Chinese takeout bin. The Calamari itself was very good. We liked the cornmeal breading but wish there was more actual calamari. For my entrée, I tried the blackened fish. Beautifully displayed on the plate, but unfortunately, the fish itself was overcooked and tough. The side of cauliflower was very good with a nice mustard base sauce. The restaurant has a mandatory tipping policy of 23%. It makes no difference whether the service you receive was good or bad. At least the tip is applied before sales tax. Of the 23%, they apparently provide 83% of that to the hourly staff and the house pockets the rest to "offset rising costs" instead of increasing the prices on the menu I guess. I don't like it, and I think it made the staff lackadaisical because they already knew they were getting a tip which resulted in slow service and a less than great product from the kitchen in our case. If you have any questions about the 23% charge, you apparently are supposed to email the address they put on the receipt.

Oh this restaurant is absolutely worth the high praises. One of the best meals I've had in Seattle and I'm still thinking about it days later. The happy hour menu is fairly extensive and absolutely worth a try for dining at a more affordable price point. I'm not usually a fan of West Coast oysters, but RockCreek knows how to pick the good ones (and clean them well). The restaurant itself is spacious, with indoor and outdoor options. Larger groups should make a reservation, but as a table of 2 on a Friday night, we were able to be seated immediately as a walk-in. It was busy, but there were still a couple tables open. Service was pretty quick once we ordered. They did do the weird restaurant thing where they saw we had leftover sauce from our clams and asked if we wanted a side of bread for it without telling us the single slice of toast wasn't complimentary (but I guess we should've known). Bonus points, the restaurant is on InKind, so you can get cashback for dining there.

How I heard of this place: A good friend's favorite, local spot, it was high time we gave it a try. Type of cuisine: Seafood focused, this "...full-service restaurant and bar, founded by Executive Chef Eric Donnelly...centers around globally sourced seafood from well managed fisheries; with offerings of local Northwest familiars like oysters, mussels, and crab, to more tropical fish like Kona Kampachi or Hawaiian Ono, and East Cost staples like Striped Bass. Our preparations emphasize fresh ingredients that arrive daily, and pronounced flavors from around the world. The Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, WA is home to our flagship restaurant, and in 2024 we welcomed our newest RockCreek in Kirkland, WA overlooking Lake Washington. Our creative, passionate and hardworking teams have spent time working in some of the best restaurants locally and across the country. Our goal is to provide the highest level of service, excellent food and drinks and an experience that leaves you wanting to return." Ambiance: "A chic restaurant, Rock Creek is set up in a contemporary space, keeping in mind the modern customers taste. Brightly-lit, the restaurant has a huge space, both indoors and outdoors. Located in Freemont, this trendy little place has become quite famous among the locals and foodies of Seattle. Bacon & oyster benedict, dungeness crab chili relleno and ham & white cheddar scramble are some of the stand-outs on their refreshing menu. A decent list of wines, cocktails and other beverages are available to complement the order of your choice. Private events like parties, corporate dinners and luncheons can also be held at Rock Creek." What I ordered: We started with brewed coffee and the Caramelized Apple & Ricotta Beignets, vanilla bean-caramel crème anglaise ($12 for four). For my husband, The Tar Pit ($22), buttermilk biscuit, smoked ham, poached eggs, lemon-dijon hollandaise, low country gravy, and the Pit Smoked Ham Benedict ($24), fried green tomato, brioche, lemon-Dijon hollandaise, herb roasted yukon potatoes for me. A side of Nueske's Bacon ($11 for three crispy strips) rounded out our meals. What I loved: While the poached eggs were too runny (goopy whites) rather than beautifully oozing for my taste, the ham was perfectly smoky and thinly sliced, which I appreciated. The bacon was crisped to perfection. The potatoes on the side of my dish were soft, with a slight crisp at the edges, buttery and warm. The beignets, while extra dark and slightly burnt, were soft inside and had a lovely burst of flavor. Why I loved it: Easily situated to serve parties large and small, the reservation process was easy and the service friendly yet unassuming and unobtrusive. We loved the open floor plan, the loft seating among the cabin-esque setting was warm and comfortable. Cost: High, overpriced.

A decent experience. wouldn't recommend or go again prob. Not that impressed by the food. ambience is great and service is nice. the octopus was good. a little too buttery. the beans though... soooo bad sooo dry sooo grainy. asparagus was well asparagus nothing crazy here. the sauce was good tho. the yellow tail had a really wonderful crisp on the outside but was a bit dry. it needed a sauce or something. loved the plantains.

Molinda K.

I came here for happy hour and thoroughly enjoyed the raw oysters! They were so fresh, service was also very attentive. I came back a second time and ordered the mini martini and fries and it was a perfect Hh item.

Do you have valet parking?

There's no valet service. There are two small stalls in front of the restaurant but most times they are already taken. Your best shot is street parking.

Are small dogs (a 12lb havanese in my case) allowed on the patio?

Strictly speaking, it is against the Health Code of the city unless it is a service animal to bring a pet into any "food establishment" in Seattle.

Do they have a mandatory % for a tip that is included? I hate that. It usually means that the service is sub-par, and they know they don't deserve a tip.

It's not for small parties. I don't know their policy for large parties.

Was there Tarragon?

There wasn't in anything I ordered, but that doesn't mean the chef wouldn't use it when and where appropriate.… Read more

OMG, these were some of the best sandwiches we've had. I had the mean sandwich and my partner had the steak tartare. Their homemade mustard on the mean made the sandwich. The sandwiches are substantial on their own but the bag of fried potatoes make this a filling meal. First time here and we'll definitely be back. Thanks!

My order was ready at the time that was specified (also received a text when it was done) and according to what I read, they keep your food on a warmer while they wait for you to pick it up. How nice! $20 for a sandwich seems pricey, but let me tell you, they definitely make a MEAN sandwich! The Mean - THICK pieces of juicy corned beef with housemade mustard, pickled red cabbage and mint. The cross section of the sandwich looks insane! The combination of flavors is excellent. The Hama Hama Oyster Po'Boy - Deep-fried Hama Hama yysters with housemade remoulade and lemon-pepper mayo. I loved this. The oysteres were nicely fried with not too much batter. You could really taste the oyster and appreciate the texture. The French roll was also very nice. It was similar to a Vietnamese Banh Mi roll. Soft, but with a light crispness on the outside. Fully Loaded Skins & Ins - Skins & Ins are basically a mixture of fried potato skins and potato chunks so you get a variety of texture: thin and crispy, or soft and meaty. The fully loaded option adds toppings similar to that of a loaded baked potato (white sauce, spices, scallions, and super crunchy bacon bits). This was a nice change from having the usual chips or fries with a sandwich. Parking can be somewhat of a challenge in this area, but if you're able to make it over then I think it's worth visiting.

Lorenzo opened Paseo in 1994, where his popular Cuban roast pork sandwiches were regarded as among the best in the country. After years of local expansion, Paseo abruptly filed for bankruptcy in 2014. The brand was subsequently bought out by a local entrepreneur, but the sale did not include Paseo's secret recipes (the reboot attempted to reverse engineer the sandwiches with varying success). So, in 2015, Lorenzo's sons revived Paseo under a new name, Un Bien, armed with their father's original recipes. Nowadays, Un Bien is generally regarded as superior to Paseo, and you can grab their Caribbean sandos at one of the three locations across Seattle. You can't miss the pastel pink-and-teal palette of the original shack on an otherwise drab block of Ballard. As you approach the wooden window, you are greeted by the aroma of sauteed meats and veggies. Communal laquered wood benches are lined up underneath a covered pergola. Fifties hits ring respectfully around the kitchen. My partner and I visited for late weekday lunch, and we ordered immediately. We opted to focus on the signature pork shoulder, so we split the #1 Caribbean Roast and #2 The Press. Across both sandwiches, we were impressed by the tender pork, rich onions, lemon-forward aioli, and marinade-soaked baguette. The standard roast pork sandwich added on pickled jalapenos and crisp romaine, culminating in a dynamic flavor that accentuated the meat. Meanwhile, The Press featured tart banana peppers, smoked ham, and melty Swiss, amping up the sweet and savory flavors alike; we agreed that this extra-messy sandwich just edged out the standard version. Our order took just minutes to be prepared, and the bill just topped $30. Despite the fanfare, I still found myself surprised by just how satisfying Un Bien's sandwiches turned out to be. Across all the food I ate in Seattle, only these pork sandwiches would be worth a return visit, even if I had to venture out of my way.

We ordered promptly, but were told we would only have about 10 minutes to use the seating area before it closed. When we asked for clarification because the restaurant was advertised as being open until 9:00 PM, staff confirmed they were open until then but said the seating area would close earlier anyway. After receiving our food, we were told not to sit down and were asked to leave the seating area altogether. The interaction felt abrupt and discourteous, especially given that we had arrived well before closing and had purchased food with the expectation that we could eat on-site. The food itself was average, but the poor customer service and inconsistent messaging about seating left a much stronger impression than the meal. There are other better places. Skip.

While other Serious Pie locations tend to be semi-upscale-yet-casual pizza joints, this spot felt more like an afterthought with its small, dark space and decidedly hole-in-the-wall vibe. The good news is, the pizza was still delish, as it always is at Serious Pie. We enjoyed the sweet sausage pizza that has become a fave over the years, along with a couple of beers which were served in plastic pint "glasses". Okay, I'm sure this makes me sound like a beer snob, but plastic?! Good beer just doesn't taste good in plastic. (Unless you're at a frat party?) Our server (who, by the way, was excellent) later told us he'd accidentally used the wrong glasses for the beer; so apparently it's something they're fixing. Yay! It was also darn cold inside. We had to keep our coats on the entire time. A door between the restaurant area and the semi-open entrance to what appears to be their central storage area would most likely help. Again, this all probably seems a bit petty. I'll own that. But as someone who loves Tom Douglas and his restaurants, and has had great experiences at other Serious Pie locations, this one was a disappointment. Especially since they're charging the same (some might say elevated) prices as they do at the other locations. Maybe if they called it something else, to differentiate it? Serious Pie Lite? Semi-Serious Pie? I dunno, but I expected just a little bit better from this iconic local brand.
