I'll never bother with this place again. His hired help is absolutely awful, rude and have no business being in a customer facing position. They will eventually cost him his business. I called to see if they had a part and the person I talked to couldn't find it with the official MB part number. You could literally Google the part number and see it everywhere online. I asked if he could look it up by using the schematics and the part name but that was waaay too much work for him. He had zero interest and said "go to the dealer" without even trying. read more

Arnold has been professional with all my phone parts inquiries for my old German car. Most recently I needed a gas tank. Arnold took the time to go check if they had it, and got back to me promptly to inform me that they did have one. He didn't just forget about me or fail to call me back like other places. He also sent me good pictures of the inside and outside of it for my inspection prior to purchase. Attempted to purchase Seat rails for a 2010 A4. Missing mine from the sport seats, was told I had to buy the whole seat which I'm fine with. Called again after verifying the seats after speaking with the manager wanting me to confirm my year. I confirmed they would match since their seat is an 09. Their reply was "the seat is an 09 and that we don't care about the rails "bro"... I told him I had spoken to other person"manager" about confirming the year and mine is a 2010 so they will work. The customer service person was still being rude , obviously not knowing I had spoken to someone else who he had transferred me to. I told them it was fine, I would buy the seat tracks from online, they are $100 anyways. They wanted $140 for a full seat, I'll take my business elsewhere and pay less. I had the engine in my 2001 BMW M3 blow up so on February 10th 2020 I came to this shop to pick up an engine from a supposed wrecked M3 that they had. I paid $3300 for the engine and got a person to bring the engine to my house that day. My mechanic had decided it would be a good idea to bring it by so he could take a quick look. He noticed with a camera that he could clearly see the valves had been damaged. He also noted that they had stored it in a damp place so the engine would have to undergo major repairs to even get it to run. Luckily A German had given me a 30 day warranty with "no overheating" or my warranty would not be good anymore. So their only redeeming quality was that I returned it the next day with one of the employees telling me that they would have it put in a car next week and send me a video so they can show me that I am dumb. Long story short bad taste in my mouth, no video of the engine running and $300 down because of shipping engine cost. Only left another star because they gave me my money back. read more

If I could give this place 0 starts I would! Being stuck with a check engine light on and getting the run around with 6 other previous mechanics I was getting pretty tired of it until I found this place. Upon arrival I spoke to the owner( which I had no idea it was him) and I told him about my check engine light being on and 2 hard codes are showing up. He then tells me to hold on a moment while he calls out a mechanic to come take a look. I want to say his name was Marty? well it starts with an " M" lol ( bad with names) but he came out and I was telling him what was going on and he lifts the hood and starts the car. With the 2 codes I gave him he already had an idea of what was going on since he sees Jettas having problems all the time. He told me to check the car and run tests to find out the exact problem it would cost $95 bucks ( other places i went to before hand wanted to charge me 270!!) so this was a damn good price! Matty then tells me to leave the car at the shop for a couple hrs and he will let me know whats really going on with the car. The MAF(mass air flow sensor) is bad and I also need a new gas cap and the total was going to be around 375! I told him its kinda of high for me since I'm a poor student and don't have all the funds right now. He then tells me to hold on...(moment of silence)...............ok then he says okay we can knock off 30 bucks for you.. Then I tell him its still a bit high and I'm not trying to low ball you whatsoever but im unable to pay the full amount. So then he puts me on hold once more...(moment of silence).......and he says okay can you make us a promise? I'm like sure! A few days later my check engine light comes on again!!! the mechanic tells me he'll take a look and sure enough more codes are coming up in the computer! For 2 weeks i've been back and forth to this damn place! wasting my time and the mechanic has no idea how to fix it! he says all 3 of his computers were giving him different codes and he was just dumbfounded. We use A-German sometimes whenever we need an obscure part that costs more new. The owner Max is always very friendly and sometimes his daughter is there for me to talk with. The parking can be tight at times with almost no street parking. A little expensive at times but still always a great bargain compared with anywhere else. The junkyard is really large but we do not get to wonder around. Sort of dirty but what do you expect from a Auto Wreckers. I may sound like i am complaining but i see worse all the time and Max really tries hard to please. read more

We did not patronize this establishment. We parked on the street some distance from this business. Attached is a photo of their mostly obscured private parking sign. Also attached are photos of the vandalism on our car courtesy the owner of the business. No warning, no note, not even a towing, which would have been annoying but understandable. Nope, just writing with a permanent paint pen on every single window, and even the side mirrors. The police have been involved, lawsuit is coming. In the meantime I wanted to make sure these jerks aren't getting any more business. At least he was kind enough to give us a straight razor to scrape the paint off ourselves! Seems like he's prepared for this kind of thing. I should note that my boyfriend was nothing but polite to this guy, but the business owner was belligerent and rude from start to finish. Also, if the proprietors of this establishment see this review: trim your hedges. And maybe try leaving a note under the windshield wiper. Or even call a tow truck! Vandalism is illegal. Round trip from Costa Mesa to A-German Auto was well worth the 750 miles. Needed a used Mercedes V12 for my S600 coupe. I gotta tell you BMW and Mercedes guys, this gentleman is not your typical owner. You know the type, the door's $125.00 if you don't like it , use the door you just came through ! Couldn't have had a better experience. Looking for a V12 for months, everyone wanted $3200, $2500. I left with a motor and trans complete and the price was great ! Highly recommend! I looked around many places and came across A-German Auto Repair. Took my car in and they sifted through priorities and non-essentials. They're Snakes. I would have kept it at that, but yelp wants me to expand on the issue. Rear seat left window was broken into on my E30 called in for replacement part, they confirmed they had it. headed down to the shop they couldn't find it Had a conversation with one of the shop guys, that I'm lucky its the left side if it was the right I'd been expensive. Guy comes back and says I couldn't find it Me: Are you sure rear left window? Guy: oh left rear window sorry was looking for the right (face palm) guy comes back with window, I purchase fully trusting he got the correct item. get home start taking my door apart and notice he gave the right side window (face palm) shop was closed for the evening (now I'm a day behind on this) call the next morning and let them know they gave me the wrong item Guy: Thats your fault you told us the wrong side! (quick to give me a scolding over their incompetence) went back for an exchange for the correct part, instead of it being the $40 they originally sold me the other window for now it was $95 (price gouging) I also asked how much they'd charge me to reset my transmission they quoted me $300 found another shop that charged me $50 Snakes. read more

I have a Eurovan. I am not sure about the quality of the work that was done at this shop. Eurovans aren't easy but they fixed the primary problem. This issues I have are the following. 1. a new problem developed. The owner assured me that it couldn't possibly be his shops faults. 2. I asked the owner to have an oil leaked looked at. He assured me he would. When I picked up the car, he had no memory of me asking him to look at the leak. (my fault for not having him write it down on shop estimate sheet.) 3. While he couldn't find time to look at the oil leak, they had plenty of time to put their advertising on my car this the form of a license plate frame. I wan't to give Max the benefit of the doubt. But I thought How can he know the new problem wasn't caused by his mechanic if he doesn't know what the new problem is? (My Check engine light started coming on after their repair.) Who knows? Nobody seemed to have the part, but there were plenty of vague referrals to a "German car specialty place" in San Jose who had everything for older VWs. Used part dealer after used part dealer kept talking about this place, but nobody had the right name or a phone number After repeated research, it turns out that this mythical place is A-German Auto Wrecking off of San Jose Ave. in San Jose. I gave them a call and they had the part so down I went. The place is a typical wrecking yard, but it seemed well run. The person I spoke with, Max, was no non-sense and was a pleasure to deal with. They were even glad to help me find spare bolts for the hood. If you work on older VW, Volvo, Saab, Porsche, Audi, BMW, or Mercedes-Benz cars/trucks, you should have this place on speed-dial. read more

I drop off my car in here and max's staff dropped me home instead of calling friends to pick me up. I took my 98 vw golf mk3 in here for putting new engine,replace wheel bearing,replace MAF and replaced check engine light bulb. The only reason i gave them 4 stars because they f*ck up my aftermarket front lip(my car is too low) i know they didnt mean it. A German is the place for used and new Auto parts for your German car. They have a huge yard filled with wrecked and parting out BMW's, Mercedes, VW, Audi, Volvo and some Porsche cars too. If you do your own repairs and hate paying new part prices, often a good used part will work just as well and save you a bunch of money. They offer no nonsense service and reasonable pricing, they also do service too, I've been using them for years and totally recommend them! read more

This place is cool if you have an older car bmw/vw/Porsche/Mercedes theyll have a used part or can order you new parts if they don't have what your looking for....I came in two weeks ago and bought a inner drivers side door handle for my 98 bmw and they charged Mr 30 bucks for it....which was 40 bucks cheaper than what the bmw parts department wanted....I should have known though it was going to be they cheaper quality handle it was not sturdy like my other door handles but I needed it fixed asap so I bought it anyways.. I should have bought it on amazon tho for 7 bucks and just waited because it was lmthe same quality plastic handle I got from a-German........ After hanging up the phone, I have received several emails from the wrecking yard over the country to let me know they have the right part. Not only was the service done quickly but he also changed me WAY less than other shops had quoted me. The techs here do great work and I will definitely be bringing my other cars here. I had a great experience at A-German Auto, and would totally recommend this shop. After not having a car for a few years, I decided to buy an older car for around town and the occasional commute. It turned out that the car I purchased - a 1991 VW Cabriolet - had an engine knock. I was very lucky that Max's shop turned up in a search for a used engine at car-part.com. I called him up, and he quoted me a very reasonable price for the engine and labor. At 100K miles the car also needed a clutch, and Max said he could replace that too. Awesome! If you've always purchased new cars and taken your car to the dealer for repairs, then you might be intimidated when you show up at A-German; the business is set back from the street on small side street, and there's a large junkyard. Trust me, you have nothing to worry about. The people that run A-German Auto are friendly, accommodating, and fair. When I dropped my car off at the shop (via tow truck), Max was out. I learned later that Max has been in business for 27 years, and that this was one of the maybe 30 days that he's taken off in his entire career. I think that really speaks to this guy's dedication to his business. At any rate, I had no problems dropping off the car, and knew that it would be ready sometime the following week. When I went to pick my car up, Max was in. Even though it was already 5 PM, he was very welcoming. We went out to look at my car, and after Max opened the hood he off-handedly mentioned that there were quite a few "little things" that they took care of -- the battery had not been properly bolted down (!!!), the timing belt needed to be replaced, the timing belt didn't have a cover, so they added one. Even though he didn't mention it at the time, I noticed later that his guys also repaired the windshield washer fluid line, which had been snapped. The price that I paid for labor did not change from Max's original quote. Max also took some time to show the me the old parts that had been taken out of my car, discuss proper car maintenance, and give me some driving tips to ensure that the new clutch would last a very long time. These guys really went the extra mile on my car. Plus, I had this work done 4 months ago, and it's been running perfectly ever since. I'll definitely be bringing my car back to A-German if it needs any other work in the future. read more
