I used B&R previously, but a recent service call proved this company values technician ego over basic competence, diagnostic accuracy, and customer service. I hired them to diagnose an intermittent chattering noise coming from my Argo switching relay box while the AC was running. I expected standard low voltage electrical testing on the 24V transformer and control circuits with a multimeter. Instead of taking actual electrical measurements, the technician and supervisor fabricated a theory that my Sensi smart thermostat was defective and calling for heating and cooling at the same time. They attempted to charge a $249 service call fee on top of an unnecessary $180 thermostat replacement. Their claim was completely baseless. Built in firmware lockouts make dual calls impossible, the heating circulator pump never activated, and the baseboard pipes were cold. When I questioned the logic, the technician became combative and brought up past invoices, despite every prior job being paid in full. On two prior occasions their own technicians lacked exact change for cash, so I went out of my way to drop off the remaining few dollars at their shop the very next day, and on the third job I paid exact cash. Bringing that up when questioned on a faulty diagnostic was completely unprofessional. He then insulted me on my own property. On top of that, they expected half a service call fee simply for giving an answer, as if guessing without testing justifies billing a customer. The actual fix required no new equipment. A plug in relay cube was merely loose in its socket pins. Once pushed firmly back into place, the chatter stopped entirely and the system has run silently under heavy load ever since. I documented these technical facts and conduct issues in a professional email to their office. The receptionist stated the owner, Bill, would contact me directly upon returning. It has now been over a week with zero follow up or accountability from ownership. Pushing unneeded parts, charging for bogus guesses, and avoiding customer concerns is unacceptable. They will not be getting my business again. read more

I recently had a shower base installed by br plumbing, it cracked within days of installation, before walls were even installed. Cost me $850. It took 3 weeks before they even came to look at it, then the owner told me it was my fault because I didn't level concrete, but they poured the concrete under the shower base. I showed him the instructions for installation, and his answer was I wouldn't follow the directions. Even though they told me it was done and needed no more work. A couple weeks now have gone by and I was told the shower base was repaired, now there is a melted spot in the shower base is still cracked inside and out. I would definitely not recommend this company. read more

I converted from oil to gas a few years ago. LIPA has a few contractors for their conversions. After the conversion, the boiler always created black soot around the boil ( not a puff back ). The system has never run correctly from the start. The gas burner was not tuned correctly from day one. Every time I called for service or a cleaning, I was told the system is burning the old oil residue away and will evenly stop creating the black soot. I called the manufacturer of the gas burner, and they confirmed the system is not tuned to run efficiently and correctly. After calling again for service, I could see the technicians didn't know what to do and they basically did nothing after paying almost $500. They said I need a new system. SAD. I am now dealing with the manufacturer directly. As for the storefront... Excellent service..,ask a question, they had the answer. read more

Made the mistake of using B& R plumbing in the Nesconset. Was quoted $265 for the job. Ended up costing me for $428. The guy working on it said he hates working on pedestal sinks, they take more time, I was quoted the wrong price, and I got lucky. Then they said they had to go back to the office to get a part which cost $20. OK that's all well and fine. Then charged me $110 for that 3.8 mile round trip to the office to get the part. They said it was 1/2 a service call. It took less than 12 minutes. As a business, if you quote a price, have the integrity to stand by that price. The fact you screwed up is not the customer's problem. Will never recommend them to anyone. read more

The B&R plumbers installed a water heater that had an obvious manufacture defect and they didn't consult me before the installation. Had I known, I would have not had that particular unit installed. When I spoke with the owner, I was told the plumbers followed common practice and the way the water heater was installed will not cause me any problems. I hope that's the case, but If leaving the home owner out of the loop is common practice then something is wrong. read more

In October we heard that familiar gurgle telling us the cesspool needed to be pumped. My husband called these guys (for some reason) rather than our regular cesspool company. They came and supposedly aerated, used chemicals, and pumped. $450. Okay. Two days later, we hear a gurgle again. They come back. They say there is a stoppage in the house trap. They tell me it was full of tampons (which no one in the house uses and we've lived here eight years). Thought that was weird, but let it go. $250 more dollars. Fast forward to January. Occasional gurgling again. Tried to ignore it. Got worse and worse. Assumed it must be some kind of clog...couldn't be the cesspool. Called roto rooter. For $700 they will camera the line, clean the line. That hurts, but what are we going to do? First thing roto rooter says is that B&R never put the cap on the trap back on properly, basically destroying the cap. Once they start to snake the line - no blockage. Cesspool is full. Roto Rooter plumbers say there's no way the cesspool was aerated and pumped just a few months ago. Called B&R to see if they would come back, as the other company we used always had the deal that they would come back again if cesspool needed to be pumped again within a year (which it never did). B&R will only come back if I pay, again, despite the fact that they clearly did not aerate, use chemicals and pump. I am so disgusted. Now we have to call our old company, surely drop another $450 and I'm out $1150 (plus the bogus $700 I paid B&R in October). Run fast and far from this company. read more

DO NOT USE B AND R PLUMBING!! Beyond a doubt the worst experience I've ever had with service company. First of all, it took three trips to my house to attempt to fix a running toilet. But it still wasn't fixed. They wanted to come back a 4th time and charge me AGAIN!!! But first I was verbally assaulted by "Bill"- can't swear that's his real name- when expressed my displeasure with their work. I could not believe what I was hearing! He was literally screaming at me and then hung up. I am a senior citizen and a single woman. I was absolutely appalled and horrified by the abusive way "Bill" spoke to me. Incompetent, inept and abusive, and they charged me a fortune!!!! I agree with one of the other reviewers; I'd give them negative stars if I could! By the way, I checked Yelp and found a really terrific plumber who fixed my problem on the first try! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Absolutely awful customer service. After having our oil burner stop working Monday night, my Husband called for a service Tuesday morning, against being advised by multiple people regarding their horrible service. Two inexperienced technicians came at 9 am and for 4 hours they made calls back and forth to someone else because they couldn't figure out the problem. They told my husband that we would receive a call from their boss later that day to discuss further diagnostics and a possible fix for the problem. We never heard back from them until Wednesday morning!! Knowing we have a baby and that I am pregnant, they left us without heat in 30 degree temperatures since Monday night. Their solution to our problem is to come back Thursday at some point and leave our family without heat or hot water for DAYS. Completely unacceptable and unbelievable and we will NEVER use them or recommend their services to anyone. read more

They replaced a gas hot water heater in my home about five years ago. The hot water heater that they brought in and installed was over $1500.00 dollars to replace. The heater stopped working. They came in and worked on the unit and said $800 parts and labor. This hot water heater has a ten year warranty. They said they only warranty there work, and I would have to contact the manufacture for reimbursement of the parts needed. I augured it was your unit and you installed it. Why are you not contacting them for the part and just charge to install it. That is not how our company does that. I contacted the manufacturer of the water heater, and they said the installer is supposed to take care of everything. Also the part is not as expensive as they were saying. They were over charging for the part by $150.  That is so messed up. Ripping me off on the installation. Overcharging for parts that should be free. and charging 175 per hour for there poor work. The manufacture is sending me the part. I had to pay for shipping. I will have a real plumber install it.   I can't believe these jokers still have any business. read more

I called back twice, first time it was under review and someone would get back asap....that never happened. The second time I was told you were overbooked. Worst Experience Ever I had the worst experience ever in my life with these guys. Called them to change a lead pipe to PVC because t was old and leaking. I had even put tape on the pipe to control the leak. They quoted to me $225, ended up being $750. They sent two extremely rude, unprofessional guys, they come in and out of my house with muddy boots. I told them what wanted, to change the pipe, instead, they decided to cut it and change only a portion, leaving a portion of the damaged pipe behind. They did not even remove the tape that I had put to prevent the leak, took them only 20 minutes. I tried to tell them to correct their mistake, they would almost so rude and nasty, telling me that they know what they are doing. I tried calling their office, I experienced the same nastiness.They couldn't even send someone to check out what I am talking about, yet they have already corrected my $750.00 for a shoddy job read more

I use B&R for all of my plumbing needs. If I shop there I am greeted by Allan. He's very nice and very helpful. When I am in need of service I call the office and am greeted by a friendly person on the other end of the phone. The service techs are professional, knowledgable, and respectful. I have to say they protected my floors perfectly and my house was left clean as if there wasn't any work performed. The owner is hands on and does the original estimates. He is aware of every aspect of the job and is in contact with his plumbers throughout the day. Best of all is the price is right. I have always been treated fairly. read more

We have an old house. We have had B&R replace nearly every faucet in house - including two external and rerunning the laundry machine waste pipe. Also replace two toilets. In addition they have done work on our cast iron baseboard radiators. Other plumbers looked at those radiators and told us to get someone from NYC. They are terrific. The hose to the faucet under the sink broke and flooded the cabinet under the sink. We are new to the area, and a carpenter recommened them since they serve the housing community where he lives. The plumber replaced it with a lousy faucet. The only settings are hot and cold -- no luke warm; and it can only shut off in the cold position or it runs. They returned when I told them I was not happy with it. I was not happy with the fact that one has to "play" with it to get the right temperature on a single handle faucet. I think they got rid of a faucet no one else wanted. They said they had a faucet at the office. I expected better. They installed a really lousy faucet. I am going to replace it, but will never use them again. And they charged an arm and a leg to install the new faucet. The kitchen faucet and installation cost me over $600! Extremely disappointed! Woke up with no central A/C on these brutally hot days. Have my in-laws in the house who really need the A/C. Needed to get the air back on and my regular guys said 2 days. B & R did all my plumbing so on a whim I called them. Wasn't aware they handled A/C but turns out they did. Air was fixed same-day. I was more than willing to pay the upcharge for same-day service in this heat. The tech Alan was great and very informative about how to maintain my unit. Very pleased. read more

About $250/hour and I had multiple issues that needed to be addressed. Due to a severe medical condition I asked him to please remove his shoes before walking on my carpet. Booties or a dusty drop cloth would unfortunately not suffice, based on experience. I was very clear that he can put his shoes back on once in the bathroom and kitchen where the work needed to be done. And at least those floors can be washed, easily. It was a simple request and he refused and passed up the job. By his reaction you'd think I asked him to strip naked. He called the company then came back to pack up his things and left in a huff. This is my home and I'm paying him a massive amount of money and it was too much of an inconvenience for him to respect this simple request as a customer. He seemed like he had a chip off his shoulder from the beginning as well, which was off putting to say the least. As a former business owner myself I am well aware of the importance of friendliness and making your customer feel like you value them and their business and first impressions really do go a long way. I did not get that from him at all. Well, no longer will I be a customer and I'll be sure to let others know of this should they be considering using this company in the future. read more

Worst experience I have ever had right from the start. Krista, who claims to be the owner, was the nastiest and most unaccommodating lady. My price went from $295.00 to $695.00 to install a bathroom vanity just because they had to carry it up the stairs. When I asked for a breakdown, she said they don't itemize bills. So much for helping the local businesses. Clearly they do not need my business, and they will not get it ever again. Still can't get over how rude Krista is. What a shame. read more
