Perfect morning for bakery/cafe lovers during opening hour after 8am/8:30am on a Thursday. Plenty of street parking in Japantown and before 9am, it's all free public street parking. Nice. I came specifically for B'anne Bakery. Clean, modern, organized, and great over the counter customer service. Love it. They make some of the best pastries here. Everything looks great and tastes great. Good vibes. Peaceful morning too. Basic sandwiches & beverages are decent and still affordable, but pastries/tarts are pricey. There's good quality options for good value here. I had the $10.50 vegetarian sandwich, $12 turkey & cheese sandwich, $4 plain small hot cup coffee, $6 hazelnut croissant, and $8 ham & cheese pastry. Very satisfying touch. Everything fits my tastebuds and are on point good, including the presentation and food textures. Fresh and delicious, perfectly made. Chicken & pesto sandwich can be purchased starting at 11am. There's plenty to try during future visits. Self service cafe bakery. Foods and beverage came out quick and ready. Tempting. B'anne Bakery is definitely for morning cafe bakery lovers who enjoy peace and tranquility. I'll be back for more. They don't have customer rewards program, at least not right now. I stopped by Banne on a Friday for some coffee. The interior is clean with lots of natural lighting. It's a nice spot to study or catch up with friends. The man working was super friendly and greeted me immediately. I ordered an iced hazelnut latte. an iced caramel latte, and a cookie. I would've ordered more food, but I wasn't super hungry. It was super tempting though because all of the food/pastries looked so good! The coffee was just what I needed. Lately, it feels a lot of places water down their espresso with too much milk, so I enjoyed actually being able to taste my espresso. I also liked that there was some cold milk foam on the top. It was definitely a better than average latte. The cookie was very good too. Super soft and chewy! I plan on returning to try their pastries, fresh baked bread, and sandwiches! read more

It has taken me a while to get to this review! I went there a month ago and decided to stop by. First off, I don't remember Japantown when I was a student a LONG time ago at San Jose State. I really want to go back for bread and to explore the area. The restaurant is like being inside a Tiffany box. I had to take in the aesthetics before I can focus on my order. This was a short visit since I was working and had to head back online. Since this was my first time, I was overwhelmed by what's in the bakery case. It all looked great, but only a few items could go home. I took home a sourdough boule for my SIL and I (get the bread sliced). This was the most memorable and I would do this again. Edith's got her bread game down. Apple Galette (my favorite) Lemon tart (my husband is particular about lemon) Veggie sandwich (I like arugula, brie and fig but it was a little heavy on the fig jam). Next time: I'm trying the chocolate chip rye cookie. It sounds odd but I heard good things. Other: Gender neutral restrooms Coffee! If there are samples, try it. Wow so much variety!! When I walk into a patisserie I want to walk into one that's like B'anne because though it might be in Japantown it really felt like I was in France with the high quality pastry and sandwich options. The tomato olive croissant is so good and the brie and fig jam sandwich on a baguette was the perfect lunch. Visited after seeing wonderful photos & reviews of this new neighborhood bakery. We drove out to specifically try their blueberry scones, galettes, rye chocolate chip cookies. * Clean, very new, very shiny location * Arrived before 10, no queues, but also very limited options. * I greeted the staff member behind the display case & asked if they had galettes & chocolate chip cookies. Learned they sold out of galettes and scones, & didn't have cookies. "Are the cookies only offered certain days? Should I target a specific day of the week?" Curtly told, "Sometimes we offer them, sometimes we don't." We thought about leaving altogether after we struck out 3/3, but out of hunger chose to try an épis & chocolate pastry. This was actually my second time coming to this coffee shop. The first time I came was about a month ago, but I came in around 1230 almost 1 o'clock and they were completely sold out of everything but there refrigerated desserts! Lol so come early!! Lol. I really like the fact they serve cats and clouds since it's a local Santa Cruz coffee shop and they have a great pour over roast coffees!! I always drink my coffee plaque without any creamer, sugar, so I was very impressed!! Service was great, there were two ladies behind the counter and bakers quickly moving in the back! Everything was very clean cut, and I was greeted as I walked in the door. I love the assortment of pastries they have and I thought the circular croissant thing I always forget what it's called, but it's almost like a muffin side and it had the perfect crunch outside and crispy. I need to take pictures of the exact food I get, but I remember there was a really bad glare from the sun outside, so sorry I guess I'll have to go back again and try more pastries and let you guys know! This bakery offers limited hours, and there's no signage on the building (as of May 2026), but it's right next to Hukilau. There was just one customer in front of me on Sunday around noon time, so there was hardly a wait for service. Staff was friendly, and seating was available inside even though the shop is small. Got the chocolate chip banana bread (comes in a baby loaf), bacon & egg croissant, and a chocolate milk (which is just a horizon organic boxed beverage). The bacon & egg croissant was on the small side, and the flavor was okay. They didn't offer to warm up the items, but I bet it would have tasted better heated. The chocolate chip banana bread wasn't loaded with chocolate, like other places I've gotten this from, but it was still moist and delish. Parking is a pain in the area, but if you're willing to walk a couple blocks, it's not impossible to find. read more

I've tried B'anne Bakery multiple times since they opened in February 2026. They have a wide selection of pastries and bread that are convenient to grab for breakfast or lunch, and their drink menu (serving Cat and Cloud coffee from Santa Cruz) is both reasonably priced. I had never tried Cat and Cloud coffee before seeing it here, but it has a pleasantly balanced flavor profile between fruity and nutty. My favorite pastries that I've tried here are their danishes and tarts. They also have a fig, arugula, honey, and goat cheese sandwich that is delicious. Baguettes and bread start at around $4 or $5. Pastries and sandwiches are more expensive, but comparable to market prices (ranges from $5-$8 for most pastries and $10-$11 for sandwiches). Service is quick and staff are patient and friendly. There's limited seating inside, so consider eating at a nearby park or taking your order to go if you'd have a larger group. It can get quite crowded even on weekdays, so come early if you'd like to have the widest selection of pastries available. The only suggestion I would have is to ask staff to heat up your pastry if possible so that they're fresh. B'anne Bakery is a great addition to Japantown and I'll be back for more! read more

I had the chance to attend the grand opening. I arrived fairly early (8:30), but it was already quite busy, and the wait was around 45 minutes. Most people were patient since it was the opening and the menu was new. The staff was very friendly and patient throughout. Decided to check this out on my day off bc I really wanted to try the chocolate sourdough. Came at 8am right when they opened and there was a few ppl ahead of me. Cute interior, felt like a modern bakery which was different in an old small Japantown. Owner and staff seemed a bit rushed as a line formed behind me so customer service wasn't welcoming. Also, wasn't given a bag for my different pastries so I was struggling carrying all my pastries out. Was disappointed no sourdough or sandwiches until 11 so it was a limited selection of pastries in the display case. Ended up getting the chocolate chip banana bread, apple galette, and cinnamon brioche ball bun. * Chocolate chip banana bread - good but wished there was more banana flavor. * Cinnamon brioche - fluffy on the inside and good sugar coating but plain. * Apple galette - probably the best. It looked thick at first, but it was nice and flakey. Would get again. Overall, it was ok. Good but can be better and hoping they do as they are just starting out. Didn't realize a new bakery sprang up in Japantown, but I'm here for it! I stopped by B'anne Bakery around 8:15am on a Wednesday morning. It had a cute storefront and an impressive display of various savory and sweet pastries as well as desserts. I got a few savory items for me and my family including a ham and cheese croissant, tomato and olive pastry, breakfast pastry (egg and ham), and spinach + egg + cheese pastry. I had the pleasure of trying the veggie pastry, which was excellent. The tomato and olive pastry was delightful as well. It reminded me of a pizza. I could've easily packed a box of their sweet baked goods, but all the reason to come back. B'anne Bakery also offered craft coffee drinks. I had a macchiato with caramel syrup. One of the employees prefaced that it wasn't like Starbucks, which I totally got. I was expecting it to be a true macchiato, the size of a shot. Have you noticed that the quality of store breads is going down? I sure have. Enter Banne. Their burger buns are delicious. They have a good texture and flavor, stay intact with your burger. Also perfect for breakfast sandwiches. We've also tried the oatmeal loaf, very nice for toast and sandwiches. I think right now my favorite thing is the fruit galettes. Yesterday I had the peach one and it was perfect. The peach maintained some of its firmness, the shell had a good bite, and it wasn't too sweet. Oh and their ham and cheese breakfast pastry deserves a special mention. It's like a quiche but baked into croissant dough. It's soooooo good, a nice mix of the cheesy ham flavors. I was able to come by on a Thursday morning which seems to be the best time avoid coming out here on a weekend tend to be the busiest and quite crowded with limited space. Customer service top notch greeted very warmly and they have their breads freshly oven baked. Yes, their prices are bit pricey but then again the quality is the taste texture and the aroma. I chose the baguette, croissants and Danish pastry along with a cup of iced mocha reasonably priced at $5. They have an array of baked goods neatly arranged with each with its own price tag. One can dine-in though not as spacious would be nice they've provide outdoor seating. Ample parking along side street 2 hour limit or meter parking. Would definitely be back only on the weekdays only wished they've extend their hours and have it seven days a week. read more

Picked up 3 pastries to try and was so excited however I was disappointed that the pastries weren't warmed up for us. Not sure how long they were sitting out on the counter because the almond croissant was hard like a rock and I couldn't even chew it. We are regulars at Aloha Fresh across the street and Nijiya Market down the block but had never noticed B'anne Bakery. They were sold out of a lot of their headliners so we had the Vegetarian Sandwich with Brie, arugula and fig jam, which I loved but my wife thought was just ok (because she's only meh on Brie but I seek it out). We went to try the new bakery. We got there around 815am. A small crowd was inside, only a couple of people in line to order. The nice thing about the early opening is the meters are free till 9am. It took a few minutes to decide what to order. Everything looked fresh. The place had a great bakery smell. Very solid!!! My girlfriend and I ordered a rye chocolate chip cookie, leek & parm pastry, fruit tart, and a couple of iced coffees. All of the pastries were great! The rye cookie was unlike anything ive had, I appreciated it! My favorite was the braided pastry that alone will have me coming back. Saw them open and decided to try them out for a sandwich. Walked in and was blown away by the bakery goods selection. Rye flour chocolate chip cookies, tarts, croissants, breakfast buns and 5-6 kinds of fresh bread. Totally unexpected. They make sandwiches for the day vs per order, so get there early. Everything was tasty and the staff and owners were great. They have 6 ciabatta burger buns. We asked if we could order and pick up Sunday closer to our BBQ date. The owner paused and said, I can't think why not. Pay now and we'll put your name on it and set it aside". They are seriously just opening and figuring some things out, but the place was spotless, the variety was excellent, and the quality was first rate. I stopped through on a Friday around 10:30am. They had no pastries, no bread, and only $3.50 rye chocolate chip cookies. You could sign your name on the waiting list for loafs, but they were clearly behind schedule as a man walked in saying he came to pick up his bread but was told to wait another 40 minutes. They did have all their coffee drinks available. They use Cat & Cloud beans from Santa Cruz, and a Nuova Simonelli espresso machine, but I don't think they're getting the best shots pulled. It's clean, it's new. They've made a concerted effort to make the place feel nice, but it's not anything special, at least not yet. Tried their Apple Galette and Kouign Amann. Both were delicious. Kouign Amann was pretty much as expected (super high expectations) with a buttery, airy flaky dough. The galette was excellent too with perfect sweetness and tartness from the apples. I'll try their cinnamon roll next. read more

1st time to the newly opened bakery in San Jose Japan Town. came on a Friday Am, lots of parking & no traffic. a variety of breads & pastries. friendly & helpful counter staff, reasonably priced. ordered: chocolate chip sourdough bread (ccsb) $12 oatmeal bread (ob) $10 kouign amman strawberry (kas) $ 6.50 strawberry tart (st) $3.50 (1-5 ratings) ccsb: i tasted more chocolate than sourdough, although, you do get the sourdough texture. it was ok, in my opinion (2.5) ob: had a different flavor profile of other oatmeal breads, nice fluffy texture (3) kas: a denser croissant dough with strawberry filling (3) st: flaky pastry with minimal strawberry filling, ea bite was satisfying (4) overall, it was ok. i won't be back, but will venture out to other bakeries. read more

Cute little bakery in Japantown, decorated very nicely and for the most part they have some great breakfast treats. I think they will do better over time with the consistency in the quality of their bakery items. Gone 3 times and it's a bit of a hit or miss. Also they have not quite figured out how to price things for value. The loaf breads are reasonably priced but some other items are over priced(cinnamon bun, strawberry hand pie, galettes.) They had hot cross buns for Easter this weekend. $5 a bun (I know!) yet they were so small they really should've been advertised as mini buns. They were also not fluffy and soft but rather hard. Manresa has larger hot cross buns that consistently are soft and fluffy (and larger). I really want them to succeed but they have to price more reasonably and up their game on the quality of some of their baked items (they have such a wide variety of pastries that I have to go back a few times to try all!) but staff is so welcoming and friendly that I will be back. read more

Went to grand (or maybe soft) opening and tried the sourdough, banana bread, cinnamon bun, and the brioche bun. Loved everything but the brioche bun. Didn't hate that one, just thought it was kinda plain. I thought the sourdough was slightly expensive, but haven't compared to what a similar place like Manresa or Acme might charge. I really like buying Watsonville sourdough loaves at Whole Foods, it's presliced which I don't prefer but the quality and flavor is the best I could find until B'anne opened. Now I buy an unsliced Boule every week and it's so fresh as in fresh baked every morning. 15 dollars and worth every penny. Also excited to try all their other offerings.
