Next to cupcakes, pies are probably my favorite dessert out there and I have been yearning for a pie shop in the South Bay for YEARS. I discovered this place through Yelp's "best pies in South Bay" list that hilariously only had one other "pie focused" shop on their list (Sweetdragon) thereby proving my point of needing more pie shops in the South Bay. I got a sampling of some of their fruit pies as well as their quiche and chocolate tart. Their pies were definitely the best that I have ordered from any store. I am usually not a fan of crumble toppings as I think they can make the pie overly sweet but theirs was just right and provided the perfect balance to the overall pie. The crust is the key component for me with any pie and theirs was absolutely phenomenal. Their chocolate tart was one of the best I've had rivaling those that I've eaten at some high end cafes. The combination of quality chocolate, caramel, tart shell, and a little bit of sea salt was heavenly. Their quiche was okay. I have to say that I make a pretty good quiche so I tend to have high standards and I found theirs to be a bit too creamy for my taste. However, everything else was so good that it didn't make a difference with my overall impression of this place. So initially, I had discovered this place on Yelp and had added it to my "want to go" list.. solely for the Biscoff Cookie Butter Latte. If you know me, you know I love Biscoff anything and everything. And I also love lattes. So being able to find a place in San Jose that makes Biscoff Cookie Butter lattes felt to me like finding a diamond earring in a giant pool. The sign in front kind of makes this place a little hard to miss- it's settled amidst a small little strip of shops, including a Greek place that also happens to be delicious! Hahaha. But once you walk in, the design and vibe of the place is very homey and relaxing. I observed some small talk between a customer and the very polite and dedicated cashier man, so it seemed like there must be some regulars and good rapport established, which is always good! Once their interaction was over, he thanked me for being patient and was so receptive in taking my order! Asked all the right questions and was so incredibly thoughtful through and through. I was sitting down waiting and he brought my takeout order over to me, which consisted of two Mushroom Bacon quiches and one Biscoff latte of course. Anytime a place physically carries your TAKEOUT order over to where you are seated waiting, it's always such an incredible gesture that definitely adds to the place's charm. The latte was oh so delicious oh my goodness. And the mushroom quiches were soft, flakey, savory but not sickeningly savory, indulgent but still light, and just overall yummy as heck. If you're looking for an ordinary pie for a cheap price - this is not the place. If you would like to choose from a huge variety of very tasty pie flavors and willing to pay a premium for a great product - this is the place! Their gluten-free crusts are also very good. It pains me to not give five stars, but it comes down to pricing add-ons. I'm actually okay with the price of a regular pie, but $10 extra on a $35 pie for a gluten-free crust seems excessive, as does a fixed $30 delivery fee when you live not far away. I was also a bit shocked to be prompted for a tip after being presented with a $128 bill for two gluten-free pies delivered. I'm a firm believer in supporting small businesses, but in this case, it needs to be special occasion only, unfortunately. I do wish the owner(s) success - they have a great product. read more

The Giving Pies is a small pie shop in Willow Glen. The shop is tiny and somewhat disorganized but the service is friendly and efficient. The place did have a strong chemical/cleaner smell but we took the pies to go. We got medium versions of the apple crumble and pear almond pies. The reviews on both sides of this are right. The pies themselves are about $8 each which is kind of expensive considering you can buy a 10" pie at Whole Foods for about $15. They have a decent crust but the filling is minimal and somewhat bland. The only thing I taste is fruit and sugar. It needs additional ingredients to elevate the flavor. The crumb top is good, not too sweet. But again it's missing some flavor. Also it gets everywhere as you cut and eat this pie. It should stick to the fruit a bit more. This review is long overdue. Gavin and I was here because we were too early for his school event. And if you know me, you will know that I'm annoyingly early to everything. It's a bit funny to me that what I ordered was pretty much a replica of what I ordered today from the Yelp Elite Experience: The Giving Pies. + croissant bread pudding was pillowy and flaky. + mushroom quiche was rich and savory + the chocolate croissant was buttery and mildly sweet + the 2 mini chocolate and salted caramel pies were decadent and rich Gavin and I enjoyed our late afternoon snack there as we were killing time. Drove up eager for a wonderful pie but walked away having learned the beautiful story of Voahangy and the Giving Pies. This woman owned business not only provides delicious and unique flavors baked into mini, small, or standard sized pies, she also manages to make sure every pie purchased means money flows back into the community. This is such a cute and homey shop with so many pie flavors, it's hard not to be delighted! I came in on Wednesday around 10:30am and tried the coconut cream and banana chocolate. Coconut cream was a winner with a nice blend of soft and sweet into a tasty tiny crust. Banana chocolate still had good crust but the flavor was less defined and maybe the texture felt off due to the size? I also tried the biscoff cookie latte expecting it to be sweet like a Starbucks holiday drink. It was actually a nice blend where you weren't over sugared and could still taste coffee. I did end up with some unmixed cookie butter sips so maybe it's different hot. Service was also wonderful and while I had a little trouble getting my order down adding two mini pies that ended up being four because of having to repeat which flavors, I decided, why not?! Was never a pie person until I had this place. The pies were so flavorful and not too sweet. We got the raspberry pie, coconut, and banana chocolate. My favorite was the coconut even though I'm not a coconut person. That says a lot! The strussel and crust paired so well with the creams. It gave a nice balance of soft and crunch. The drinks were also delicious! The lavender Ube had a strong Ube flavor that did not overpower the lavender. You can still taste the coffee in the drink. The raspberry pie mocha was just as good. He settled on a blackberry pie so I ambled in after work one day to place an order to be picked up the next day. The Meh: *Parking lot is tight but there is some street parking, as well. *A bit pricey but everything is handmade *I'm not 100% how I feel about this part, but their crumble on top contains almond flour; I wasn't aware of this when ordering or I would've bounced seeing as my son has a tree nut allergy. Fortunately, **he** did spot a sign when he and Carissa came to do the pickup the next day, or it could've been a disaster. Now, I get that they have signs and that's great, but they really, really, REALLY should say something to you when you're ordering. Quite frankly, I've never seen a crumble recipe that uses almond flour so I would never think to assume there might be some in the pie--and I'm sure I'm not the only one. The Ugly: *While the filling was fantastic, the bottom crust was the complete opposite. Somehow they managed to overbake and simultaneously underbake the pie crust at the same time. They had a display case of full size, mini, and tiny pies. It was late afternoon, so some of the flavors were already sold out for the day. I chose the Pear Almond Mini Pie and Key Lime Mini Pie, and took them home to try. Both were very tasty, but the Key Lime was easily my favorite - sweet and tangy with a nice crust. I came here to get some mini pies for a friend's birthday and they did not disappoint. the mini pies range from $3-$4 each which adds up if you're buying a lot but having baked pies myself, the price is justified because they are not easy to make. Originally I had wanted banana crème pies but they said that had to be ordered a day ahead. I ordered 3 each of the ube, mango, and key lime mini pies. I think they might have accidentally given me a couple apple instead of mango but my friends said they tasted great. My favorite of the 3 was the key lime pie. I had to stop myself from driving back that afternoon to buy more lol They also had savory pies which I'm so curious to try. I read they change their flavors daily and that it's best to check their doordash for the updated flavors. Although I don't think they offer all their flavors on doordash. The quiche was tasty, coffee was good (came with a complimentary canelé that was better than any I've had in Paris!) Went the first time last Friday and my son and I ate a quiche that the gentleman heated for us. They were excellent! The crust was amazing and the cheese and egg with bacon was better than I've ever tasted. I will be coming back earlier next time to try their other flavors of quiches. Then we bought 4 pies to take home. They were all very tasty. I especially liked the berry pie and the cocoanut cream. They also had really good coffee's. Honestly a little afraid to write a stellar review because I don't want them to run out of pies before I can get there in the afternoon lol. But not only do I have to give this place the highest praise for their deserving pies.. the customer service is also incredible. The interior of the pie shop was cute and inviting, a bit of indoor seating, service was standard, staff was friendly enough. Got an iced mocha which was good, and the medium sized salmon and zucchini pie only took about 5 minutes to heat, flavor was okay, but a bit salty and definitely fishy, and the crust was sticking to the paper on the bottom, so that wasn't fun peeling it off as it fell apart... I'd rather try their other pie flavors, but they only had two kinds remaining about 30 minutes before closing time on a Saturday, and the other was a sweet pie, not what I had in mind. As I had taken the last savory pie in the display case, walk-in customers who came in after me simply left in disappointment. What's the point of having an enticing menu, when you have an empty display case during business hours, and basically tell customers they have no options?!?! If this is the norm, I'm not sure it's worth making the trip out here (unless you have made a special order in advance), but I might give it another try just to see if this was an off day. Since then my husband has been getting pies for our anniversary on Pi day. We've tried a majority of the flavors but my favorite is cherry.
