But don't let the humble appearance mislead you. This place is incredible. I don't know what their secret ingredient is, but my guess is love. I've been several times over the years and previously have had brittle and the small fruit hand pies. This time around I got a peach hand pie and decided to try a savory hand pie. There are so many incredible flavors to choose from, but I was in a meat and potatoes kind of mood and got the steak and stout. Imagine a gourmet pot pie. I put it in the air fryer for about 8 minutes, and that would be my recommendation to warm and crisp it up once you get it home. The steak was tender and plentiful, the potatoes were cooked perfectly and had a little crisp to each bite, and the buttery crust is flakey, tender, and flavorful. Best to be reserved ahead of time but also offered on the spot orders assuming they have them in stock, the pies, galettes and brittles here are exceptionally crafted with the local community in mind. A lot of their ingredients are locally sourced so you'll know their treats are fresh and sustainable. When visiting this spot on Lincoln Avenue, pull up and park in the spots near the shop and once you've decided what you're planning to order or if you're here to pick up, press the button found near the window or table and the staff will greet you through the window. Pick up is quick unless you're like us and decided to order more after we arrived. We primarily came for their pies and galettes but upon visiting, we have discovered their brittles are also something to consider trying. But among their pies, their sweet berry pies contain the juiciest fruit I've had in pies and their savory double crusted pies are hearty and delicious. Black cherry hand pie/galette - bought this on a whim being a huge cherry fan. The fruits were bursting with flavor and the crispy crust was a fantastic complement to the jammy texture of the filling. Cherry galette - a bit more tart than its black cherry variant but still just as juicy! Despite its size, I felt like I could have eaten it all like one of their hand pies; not too filling but just indulgent enough for you to still want more after one or two slices. Triple berry galette - a wonderful medley of berries infusing their flavors and textures into each bite. Probably one of the most fun and delicious mixed berry pies I've eaten ever. Just writing about it now already has my stomach rumbling. Steak and stout double crust - don't sleep on this crust - it's the real deal and in addition to being crispy and buttery, that last few bites where the two crusts meet will stuff you up. The steak in this pie was meaty and flavorful, the veggies were soft and cooked perfectly, and the solid to liquid ratio was a clear example of their exceptional execution. For those looking to stock up for meals later, these pies stayed intact and tasty extremely well for at least a week and their posted reheating instructions were faultless. Based on this initial experience, there's no doubt that multiple pie orders are in store for future visits. Overall, if you're a fan of pies, you NEED to make a visit to Sweetdragon, find them at one of the local farmers markets, or pick up an order from one of their partners. I bought a few things from the booth at the San Mateo farmer's Market a couple weeks ago. Thoroughly enjoyed the chicken pot Hand pie. The lady was really sweet and friendly. I'm headed over there again this afternoon this time I think I have about eight or nine things on my list. I pre-ordered to make sure they would have them when I arrived this afternoon Margo answered my phone call and was so friendly and helpful. I am going to try more chicken, pot, pies, chocolate, pecan pie, cherry pie, black and white, Ube, coconut, and of course, the black sesame brittle. Don't they all sound amazing. Needed a pie in time for the holiday season and Sweetdragon came in saving the day. I ordered a 9 inch double crusted apple pie and it was ready the day after Thanksgiving. (I didnt need it on Thanksgiving)I didn't stop by the storefront, my dad picked it up so I didn't get to check it out. The pie was delicious with the perfect amount of sweetness from the apples. My favorite part was the crust, it was thick but very soft. Most of the time I don't like pie crust because it gets chalky and hard but this one hit different. My dad came home with a surprise cookie, I thought it was a snickerdoodle but turns out it was a Burnt Almond Sugar cookie. Definitely a different tasting cookie but I loved it. This is my first time trying the pie at this bakery! I called earlier that day, hoping to pick up a guava pie to celebrate a pre-birthday treat for my bf. The person on the phone was so nice !! She was able to ask the kitchen to make a fresh one and told me it'll be ready in an hour. The pie has a nice crust and they definitely don't skimp out on the guava filings! We tried a Chicken Pot Pie, Chicken Curry, Brown-sugar Peacharine and my son bought a Raspberry Mango which he said was really good and polished it off before I could take a picture...it must have been pretty good All of the 5" pies we bought were good and crust was flakey and not dry. I would have preferred a deeper chicken pot pie with more filling to be able to taste more of the ingredients and flavor. I love peaches and nectarines so I enjoyed my pie. My wife thought the chicken curry was good but loved the Raspberry Mango pie the best. For fresh pies take a group of friends and/or family, get a variety and have a tasting party. Someone brought Sweetdragon's pie to a potluck and it was a hit so we decided to try their Working From Home Pack (4 small galletes) to sample their large variety of pies. I called Friday at opening (9am) to place my order if the 4 small galletes and was able to pick up at 3pm. We ordered: lemon cheesecake, POG, steak&stout, and chocolate pecan. Each had their unique flavors that brings out it's uniqueness. Love all the pies! These pies needed to be warmed up for 10-12minutes at 350F. We also tried their black sesame brittle cookies and snickerdoodle. Both delicious and perfectly made. Be sure check their website since some of their pies require time in advance to prepare. Sweetdragon shares a parking lot with an old liquor store and there is a doorbell to ring for service at their window. Their offerings are listed on the wall and on their A-frame and I very much appreciate the equal amounts of sweet and savory pie selections. The Heating instructions written on a board next to service window was my first sign that their pies are given chilled and it was very straightforward. This trip I picked up the Spicy Mushroom (with Havarti), Potato Leek, Cheddar Bacon Onion, Brown Sugar Pineapple, and Cinnamon Apple. LET ME TELL YOU: I may have a preference, but they are all equally good. Flaky, buttery crust on each of them was great AND the filling ratio and the balance of flavors and textures were great. It took nearly 45 minutes to get to the window, but the folks waiting in line were fun, so we all made the best of it. I decided to get a few hand pies (chicken pot pie, steak and stout, and cherry) as well as their black sesame brittle. This was my first time trying chicken pot pie (don't judge), but the steak pie was much tastier, IMO. I loved the mixture of the tender meat, potatoes, gravy, and flaky pie crust. One of these pies was more than enough for a meal. The cherry pie contained both sweet and sour cherries, which made for one deliciously balanced pie. If you're into less-sugary European sweets, you will enjoy that one. To my surprise, my favorite item ended up being the brittle. It tasted like a mixture of coffee and sesame; again, it was not too sweet. It came in a resealable pouch, perfect for keeping it in the freezer. It's not meant to be but I got their next best thing: coconut custard pie and black sesame brittle cookies. The pie is so tiny but good enough to not share with anyone else. So get your own! The hand pies were a yummy filling snack for me with a buttery flakey goodness to them and the cookies had the perfect amount of chew to them. They were both such perfect cookies it left me wanting more but I had to control my dessert intake haha. They were nice and chewy and the outer layer was a little crunchy. It was such a nice balance between crunchy and chewy! The smell was deliciously sweet and reminded me of homemade sugar cookies. I prefer the burnt almond more than the black sesame, but they were both really good. The service was really nice! They were friendly and very accommodating! The cookies came in a bag of 6 but for one flavor. I asked them if it was okay to do half of each flavor and they said yes! I was very thankful for their service. In the mood for some pie, I visited one well-rated pie shop in the area, only to find, shall we say, uninterested service and somewhat stale-looking product. The pluot galette was, hands down, my favorite, and that is saying something, as the other two products I bought were wonderful. All were baked with an attention to different complementary flavors and their textures. The cherry galette was not too sweet, and the crust was flaky without being crumbly. The pluot galette showed that not enough of us use that fruit in our baked goods. The chocolate chip cookie, made with rye flour, had a nice tang, high-quality chips, and a chewiness that reminded me almost of a good molasses cookie. The place is hidden a little bit, since it's tiny, but I love the charming walk-up window instead of fighting with people in a crowded space.
