A dozen of each different Portuguese tarts ~ a bit cuteeee!
    Lily D.

I wanted to like this place, but I just don't see the hype. The pastries were stale and lacked flavor. Even the malasadas were underwhelming and if you think they are similar to Leonard's, then this does not come close. For the Portuguese tarts, they were served a bit cold. I'd recommend reheating them. The crust was so oily it seeped through the napkin and the filling was overly sweet. I took one bite and couldn't finish it. Overall, the texture and flavor didn't meet expectations. Service was decent but the staff were not friendly. This was a bit of a letdown. If you can, I'd suggest driving or taking the train to SF for this better spot, Holy Nata. It was so much better.

Went on a Sunday 10 minutes before they opened and there was already a line forming outside. So safe to say this place does get busy--so do come early or preorder. It is a small shop with a few tables to sit at. The display of all of the tarts was presented nicely and clearly labeled. I tried their plain Portuguese egg tart and the chocolate one--both of which were good and some of the best egg tarts I've had. I ate both of them hours later and they were both still flaky, creamy/custard-y, and still had a nice bite/crisp to it. I like how it didn't taste eggy like some tarts I've tried before. Besides egg tarts, they offer other pastries that I have yet to try.

Great Pasteis de Nata and Malasadas! Perfect for gifts too! The lemon Malasadas was my favorite!

Still one of my favorite places, and their pastel de natas are always delicious and perfect. The crust is so flaky and buttery. The custards are smooth and all taste as advertised. Price is $4 for a single pastel de nata or $21 for a box of 6. Highly recommend parking at a free 90 minute garage, then walking over here. Service is usually quick and friendly.

I think the pastries here taste okay but the ladies that work here are super friendly. One of the ladies gave me a free pastry. So nice of her to do that!

The first time I tried Pastelaria Ageda's Pastel De Nata was when the first blow-up on social media and there were a line in front of their door. My family got me their original Portuguese Egg Tart, Ham & Cheese Croissant, and Chourico Bread to-go. The croissant and the bread were too buttery for my taste, I love buttery flaky pastries in general but these were too much to handle, like they basically soaked in butter, I cannot even taste the flavor of the ham or the sliced linguica sausage. But the egg tart was good, the shell were flaky and rich in butter, meanwhile the egg custard filling have a nice fragrant smell of egg & milk with soft jelly-like texture. So this time when I was around downtown SJ, I decided to stop by to get myself an egg tart, as a quick tasty snack on the go. The lovely lady behind the counter helped me get the good and check out all under 3 minutes. The store ambience were bright and have a lovely cyan/blue color theme, I feel calm and relax when I enter the door. But this time, the egg tart didn't taste as good as I remembered. Funny thing is, I thought when I bought it in store, the egg tart supposed to be fresher and tastier in compare with my to-go experience. Likes... it was still that same egg tart but somehow the flavors and texture decreased 20-30%. I still finished it tho, but I don't know if I will want to give it another try in the future.

Box of 6 Pasteis de Nata (~$21): traditional, hazelnut, blueberry, strawberry, passionfruit, and cinnamon apple

Ordered: Box of 6 Pasteis de Nata (~$21): traditional, hazelnut, blueberry, strawberry, passionfruit, and cinnamon apple Aya's take: Pastelaria Adega came well-recommended by a friend and we decided to give it a try. As I couldn't get there before the afternoon, we placed an order in advance which was a great move considering they were out of most flavors by then if I had just walked in to try some. The Pasteis de Nata were all good in the sense that they were flaky, creamy (not eggy), and not overly sweet. I was most excited to try the passionfruit one but I will say it tasted pretty much like the traditional with passionfruit seeds on top. There must have been the slightest hint of passionfruit, if at all. The flavor needs to be way more pronounced. The hazelnut was one of my favorites; the cream inside was delicious and it honestly didn't need the sprinkles on top. Both blueberry & strawberry were also well done and added a nice tart flavor to each bite. Sadly, mine was not served in their pretty boxes; apparently they charge ~$3 for that now. Decent try!

I saw this place on TikTok and had been waiting to try it for a long time. I was finally in the area and decided to try! I'll start off by saying it's in downtown San Jose. Parking is a little challenging and the area isn't great. Walking up it's smelly and dirty. I know some of you will say I'm being dramatic or delicate but it's just my opinion. Anyway, the baked goods are good. The stuffed sugary pastry is a bit much, a little too sweet and large portion. So it's a good idea to share if you aren't much of a sweets person. Pairing it with one of their espresso coffees makes it perfect. The croissant, in my opinion is the star of the place. It's the best I've had! I got a ham and cheese melt, omg delicious!! The woman at the counter was friendly and prices were decent. Definitely worth the try!

Finally got to try this place after seeing it on social media and bookmarking on Yelp! There was a few people ahead of me but not a long wait thankfully. Was able to try malasadas - vanilla cream and chocolate hazelnut filling as well as their egg tarts were delicious. They have a few drinks available to order as well more malasadas with different filling flavors and different egg tarts that have different toppings such as strawberries, etc.

I finally happened to be in the area to try this place. It was around 11am on a Saturday and luckily no line. There were lots of different pastries to try but since I was on my way to lunch somewhere else I needed to limit my purchase. The place is small so to go is the best option. Since I was the only person at the counter, the service was good and attentive. I wanted to try the malasadas but some of them looked a little sad I guess since they probably have been sitting there for hours prefilled with pastry cream. I stuck with just trying the egg tarts. I tried the original and a chocolate one. They are small. I was surprised they came warm which was a good sign. Each tasted great. The crust was flaky how it should be. Each egg tart is $4. There is a sign at the register charging a 5% cost of living surcharge and then taxed. To me this seemed a little steep for 2 small egg tarts. If I was in the area and ok to splurge, sure I'll try this place again. However I would not go out of my way to come here.

Tried this spot through TooGooToGo, glad I did because we got to try a great mix of pastries! Bakery had no queue at 3:15pm, staff was kind, and surprise bag pick-up was super-fast. Highlights: * The croissants! Enormous (nearly the length of a whole salad/dessert plate), buttery, great for dunking in hot coffee. * Partner loved the Pão com Chouriço (bread with chorizo) - he ate one with salad for a filling lunch. Will definitely be back to try more sweets & their sandwiches.

    PASTEL DE NATA - SINGLE

This was my first time visiting this bakery. When I walked in, the young lady that serves you just looked at me and didn't greet or anything. I felt like she was rushing me and wasn't very friendly. I went around 10 a.m. and ordered the chocolate and guava Pastel de Nata. They were honestly mid, I don't think I'd come back.

6 malassadas and 12 pastel de nata
    Maggie W.

I ordered a set of 12 pastel de nata and 6 malassadas to split with my team. I selected the lemon and the chocolate hazelnut. The crust of the Portuguese egg tarts is so amazing! I love making custard and think I could attempt to replicate this at home, but the flaky crust is what I would struggle with replicating for sure. The lemon helped temper the sugary goodness of the egg tart, while the creamy hazelnut spread added another texture in the mix for my egg tart. The malassadas were just alright, they were very doughy and a bit tiring to eat since they lacked a more nuanced flavor (what with the sweetness of the malassada bread and the filling). My boyfriend liked his strawberry one and I enjoyed my plain vanilla one very much.

Is pastel de nara the special one? How much is it? Thanks?

Pastel de Nata is similar to the egg tarts you can get at a Chinese bakery. They're flaky in the crust and ooey gooey in the center with sweet custard. They're about $4 a piece. You can get 6 for $21

We walked into a cozy, compact space with shelves filled with freshly baked breads, pastries, and prepared foods, all arranged in a way that makes you want to browse slowly even though the shop is small. The atmosphere has that simple, welcoming feel reminiscent of the small bakeries you find throughout Japan, focusing more on quality and variety than on a large café setup. Seating is limited, so it is better suited for grabbing something to go rather than spending a long time inside. The biggest draw here is the combination of Japanese baked goods and savory items. The bakery selection offers a great mix of sweet and savory options, with classics like melon pan standing out for its crisp sugary topping and soft interior that stays light without being dry. The curry bread and croquette bread are also popular choices, both feeling comforting and freshly made rather than overly sweet or greasy. The bakery items are reasonably priced, which makes it easy to pick up multiple things without feeling like you are spending too much, and the variety means there is always something new to try. The onigiri selection is what really makes Clover stand out compared to a typical bakery. They offer a variety of rice balls with fillings like spicy tuna, tuna mayo, and unagi, making it a great option for a quick breakfast or light meal. The rice is well balanced and the fillings give each onigiri a different personality. The spicy tuna has a nice kick that comes through without overpowering the rice, while the unagi adds a sweeter, more savory flavor that works especially well with the slightly salty rice. The onigiri are a practical, satisfying choice for anyone looking for something more substantial than a pastry. Beyond the baked goods and onigiri, Clover also has drinks, sandwiches, and desserts including cakes and other pastries. The strawberry cake is a nice lighter dessert option, and the overall menu gives plenty of reasons to visit whether you are looking for breakfast, a snack, or something to bring home. The offerings feel thoughtfully selected, with enough variety to cover different cravings without making the menu feel scattered. Service is friendly and efficient, and the small size of the shop adds to the charm. Since it has become a popular local spot, some items can sell out during busy hours, so arriving earlier gives you the best selection. Parking can also be a little challenging during peak times, but the quick grab-and-go style makes the visit easy to manage. Clover Bakery & Cafe is a great stop for anyone who enjoys Japanese bakeries. The combination of fresh breads, affordable prices, and unique savory options like onigiri makes it feel different from a standard bakery. It is the type of place where it is worth picking up a few items and trying a mix of everything, leaving you with the sense that you have found a little neighborhood gem that delivers on both quality and variety.
