This place was absolutely amazing! They don't do reservations on the weekends, but make sure to call them to get on the waitlist. Everything we got was so delicious! Recommended by friends so we had to look it up Nice service and very fast. Both of us ordered the lamppost which is 2 eggs potatoes Turkey apple sausage for me and bacon for candyce. The sausage was great. Homemade biscuits. Ok this is coming from a northerner who thinks grits tastes like eating wall paper paste. The grits at b mathews is by far the best I have ever had. Taste, cheesy buttery and really really good Great place for breakfast and lunch. Good selection on drinks on the menu. Cant go wrong read more

This place is small but AMAZING. I had the BEST dish here while visiting Savannah: CHICKEN N BISCUITS. I have never tried this before and for my first time, it was INCREDIBLE. I'm from NY (born and raised) but I think this dish converted me to a Southern belle. I ordered the Peach Tree Street drink and it was sweet but not overly so. I could've eaten here over and over again on my trip. Savannah has so many places to eat and enjoy yourself. If you could stop here for breakfast, I promise it won't be disappointing!! Ate here for breakfast before leaving Savannah. Tried the biscuit with chicken and pimento. Wasn't a huge fan of the pimento but that's just because that is normally not my thing, but everything else was good. I got the vegetarian gravy which was delicious. The grits needed some salt but were tasty. read more

The food was fantastic, I had the avocado toast, probably the best I have ever had.l, from the crunchy of the bread to the freshness of the avocado and the capers and tomatoes. Super cozy restaurant with delicious food and great service! The mussel plate was so good and I usually don't tend to be wowed by mussels. There was tons of flavor and the bread was yummy! The fried green tomatoes were delicious too! They had great texture and the sauce was perfection. The crab cakes were also fire, very moist and fantastic flavor. I loved my drink the Georgia peach old fashioned with house-infused peach bourbon, brandied cherry, orange and chicory pecan bitters. Was the perfect combinations. It would have been a 5 star experience except I the shrimp and grits didn't hit the mark for me. The texture was perfectly smooth and creamy but it was lacking some flavor which was a surprise especially since everything else was so good. Would love to come back sometime to try their brunch! read more

The food was delicious. We really enjoyed our dishes. The chicken and biscuit was surprisingly light and the chicken was well seasoned. It tasted like Kentucky fried chicken without the grease. The shrimp and grits were really good and filling. Also at the table was a full breakfast that included eggs, potatoes, grits, breakfast meat, and a biscuit. The coffee was yummy too. The service was excellent-- Christine was very attentive. It's a very comfortable space and friendly. read more

Really good brunch spot. The food is amazing, the service is friendly, the restaurant is in a central location, the vibe is relaxed, and it doesn't get too loud. I love that they make their own biscuits and apple chicken sausage, and anything you try is going to be so good. read more

This place is very cute and has a great friendly vibe. They obviously get pretty busy so go there early if you're going on the weekend. We were able to sit In the second floor which had a nice view of the street. Their food is fine. Their cheesy grits were a a bit cold and not that creamy. I had their fried chicken and biscuits. The fried chicken was small and a little dry and biscuits were ok. I guess based on the crowd, their food would have been spectacular. I did enjoy the setting and the service was excellent. read more

Wonderful establishment! In town with friends on a group trip of 8, all 8 are fully impressed. From the service, and decor to the friendliness and delicious meals. A wonderful experience! We were a little late coming into town (10-15 min late) and contacted to see about flexibility of reservation, and they were fully accommodating! This is my 1st time in Savannah, and it's already off to a wonderful start! Highly recommend! read more

B Matthews Eatery is a local hot spot. What I love about this restaurant is they serve brunch 7 days a week. Not to mention it's the perfect location, and is walking distance to most Savannah attractions. I came here with a group of friends for a Monday brunch. I ordered the Crab Cake & Fried Green Tomato Benedict with a Bloody Mary. (Note: the Bloody Marys are served with a bacon garnish and this is not listed on the menu.) My favorite part was the straw -- it was made out of a pasta noodle! Apparently this is a big thing in European countries. The crab cake benedict was good, but the fried green tomato was way too small and there were too many onions in the crab cake. The hostess and waiter were friendly. Overall, I would return and recommend. read more

The sausage gravy that came with The Lamp Post was delicious as well. I'm giving four stars because while it was good, I don't feel compelled to say that this was an amazing brunch. Price (4/5) A little pricier for what I would expect from the Savannah area, coming from California. However as expected crab cakes run on the pricier side. Wait Time (4/5) Our food came out in about 10mins. We arrived around 10am but were a little surprised to find a line already. I guess people brunch a little earlier in these parts? We waited about 30-45mins for our table and took the opportunity to walk to the riverfront and back. Ambience (4/5) A cute cozy brunch spot with some historical background - if I remember correctly it used to function as a trader's house/shop? Service (5/5) No concerns. Our waiter was friendly. The hostess seems friendly and seems to be familiar with many regulars. Parking/Access (5/5) Can't speak to parking but it looked like there was easy street parking nearby. read more

I liked it. I liked it a lot. Dinner was very good and service was prompt and attentive. We sampled multiple appetizers and entrees, and the only real weak point was the desserts. I would definitely consider this place a great spot for a date night, a family get-together or a meet-up for friends. I don't normally like beets (at all) but I would recommend the Harissa Beets plate as a starter. Fresh and vibrant, it sets the palate up for the rest of the meal without being heavy and filling. The cheese plate is hard to resist, and includes some interesting flavors, including some honeycomb and a fresh berry jam. Dinner was very good -- high points included the chicken thighs which were very tender and savory, accompanied by the potato gratin and a fresh slaw. Not quite as remarkable were the semolina gnocchi which presented more like a polenta and didn't please the senses the same way a real gnocchi does. Tasty nonetheless, it makes a decent companion to an added protein, but is underwhelming as a vegetarian dish on its own. And for the unfortunate desserts, oh well, the tiramisu was runny and the cheesecake was only slightly better. Coffee and drinks throughout the night were great, and overall this place is worth the visit. read more

Southern cooking at its finest! Great prices that match the portion size (just enough food to feel satisfied). The crabby benedict was the best with the fried green tomatoes and homemade biscuits - a must get! The grits are to die for! I ordered a second bowl because I loved them so much! Great cafe located on bay street. A lot of blogs I read highly recommended this place and it did not disappoint. Excellent service, clean and following all the Covid guidelines. Great restaurant located in historic downtown Savannah! To start I got the "Good Morning Lavender" it was light and refreshing and has a subtle hint of Early Grey/floral hints! The food is spectacular! I recommend the "Black Eye Pea Hushpuppies" they were golden balls of perfections- I haven't quite had anything like this and they were paired with a tartar sauce. Also the LOVED the "Shrimp & Grits" you seriously can't go wrong! It was the perfect blend of tomatoes, onions, cheese in a white wine cream sauce- and the shrimp were cooked perfectly! What a nice surprise! We sat upstairs in a small dining room area which was much quieter than downstairs. Megan our server was amazing, besides being extremely knowledgeable about the food. 4 diners for lunch 2 days after Christmas We had reservations Food was barely adequate, dry chicken salad with little flavor Shrimp and grits edible but just warm Bourbon bacon burger and fries was satisfactory to the 13 YO diner Reuben was unremarkable Overall pricey ( yes, it's in downtown Savannah over a holiday time), but disappointing Only one unisex restroom downstairs is problematic for a restaurant this size, another single restroom is up a steep set of 20+ stairs Not worth trying again Disappointing read more

The Food was good. Next time I'll tell them to hold the goat cheese as I didn't think it was a good mix with the Eggs Benedict. The coffee drink was WAYYY over priced at 13$ nothing special about it, crappy coffee with some alcohol mixed in, not worth the price IMO. Atmosphere was nice. Service was good. read more

Their biscuits look so good here, nice and golden and crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. We were on the wait list, about 35 minutes for 2 of us. There's a line outside, hope that's a good sign for us then. We were a few minutes before our call ahead time estimate. They were just cleaning up our table for us. They have indoor and outside seating and some upstairs as well. There's a private party upstairs this morning. Beth is waiting on us today. We ordered the veggie scrambler, fried green tomato & crab cake Benny, B salad and Caesar salad as well. Happy to at least see sriracha as a condiment for us. The Caesar is crispy and tasty. The dressing for the B salad would be better with more crispy mixed lettuce. The dressing isn't bad. The bean sprouts and the artichoke and salad content blend is good. There's a lot or rotten and wilted leaves, this is such a simple thing to check and one of Michigan biggest pet peeves when I see something so simple get overlooked before it goes out to the table. The veggie scrambler is really flavorful and has a ton of a variety of veggies in it. The biscuit is quite tasty on its own. The fried green tomato is good on its own. The crab cake isn't bad. The Benny combo is quite yummy. A nice crunchy, slight tartness and balance of flavors. They did smash down my biscuit to fit all the fried green tomato and the crab cake. The biscuit is also yummy with their assortment of Dickinson's jams. They offer touch less payment here, QR code available on the receipt. Default tip options once you swipe the card is 18%, 20% and 25%. Service was good here. I would like to see a bit more care in picking out the rotten lettuce for their B salads. Food overall was quite delicious. The biscuits are well executed and has a nice crunch to them, maybe more buttery for me. The river walk isn't far for a nice long jaunt after a heavy and ends meal here. read more

One of the last stops while in town and it was one to remember. Saturday brunch. The wait was 40 mins. We walked around the area and they text us when the table was ready. Sat upstairs next to a window and had a nice view of the square/park across the street. Black eyes hush puppies- these were incredible. Lightly fried, with a delicious tartar sauce and micro greens. Cream of mushroom was the soup of the day and it was fantastic. We only got a cup but wish we'd gotten a bowl. It was so good. Fried green tomato crab cake Benedict. Boom! This is what I wanted. Hit the spot. Not to fishy and perfectly stacked with flavors. Veggie scramble - a ton of cheese, potatoes and other veggies. Large and delicious, without feeling too heavy. Service was excellent! Really glad we stopped in here for brunch before hitting the road. read more

Stopped here for brunch today with two others. It was pretty busy and we were told there would be a thirty minute wait, but we were actually seated much quicker after about 10 minutes! I ordered The Lamp Post which was delicious. I added sausage gravy onto my biscuit, and that was my favorite part of my dish. You definitely get A LOT of food, as I was not able to finish my food. My sister ordered the shrimp and grits which was very lackluster to say the least. The dish was very bland and she ended up having to send the dish back for another item off of the menu. Her husband also had to send something back due to there being a hair in the food. Despite all of this, our waiter was apologetic and swiftly accommodated us. The service and my individual meal made my experience worthwhile, but I would not recommend the shrimp and grits. read more

The server will tell you, the menu says tapas, but the servings are larger than that. Meat portions are generous at 6 oz. The cocktails are the real star here. They fall under the categories "strong and adventurous," light fare," and "signature." Non-alcoholic cocktails are also available. I started with the medusa 1597, under "strong and adventurous." Made with Old Tom Gin, extra dry vermouth, truffle, grapefruit, and amaro, it was extremely strong. A bold, slow sipper I would have done better to have later in the evening, but I still appreciate the complexity of it. I also had the Bella primavera, a lighter cocktail under the signature section. Made with pisco, blanc vermouth, French herbal liqueur, watermelon, and basil leaf. A smoother, brighter, faster sip than the Medusa. And I also had the blood orange martini, made with French vodka, blood orange, lime, and cranberry. A little sweet, but not cloying, and again, would have been a better starter as opposed to a closer. I think when I return, I will ask the bartender to make me off the menu drinks. This place seems creative enough that the outcome would be fantastic. I loved this place. The vibe, the view, the service, the offerings. Can't wait to see what more they have in store.

The chicken was fried perfectly and still really moist. And at this point, I'm convinced Savannah just knows how to cook chicken. Everywhere we went, the chicken was consistently good. My partner got the grilled apple pie sandwich, which has fried chicken, grilled apples and bacon. He's not even a big pork person, but that bacon was so crispy and the whole combination just worked. Even the waffle fries were good--crispy, fresh and actually seasoned. We had the Grateful Dead and Wicked Kiwi cocktails, plus a couple of shots, and the drinks were strong, good and reasonably priced. Honestly, I don't have a ton of notes here. It's not trying to be some elevated dining experience. It's just a really good late-night spot with good food, strong drinks, friendly service and a fun atmosphere. We sat inside because Savannah in August was not about to have us sitting on anybody's patio. Definitely recommend, especially if you're looking for somewhere to eat late. DELICIOUS brunch! My wife and I spent one night in Savannah on the way home from our honeymoon week and it was great! Prices were very reasonable, especially for Savannah and for such high quality food. I ordered the B. Matthews' Classic Breakfast -- perfectly cooked eggs, bacon, cheese grits, and biscuit. My wife ordered the biscuits and gravy, which she raved about. The gravy was perfectly seasoned with quality sausage, and the biscuits at this place were wonderful. Also got a side of hashbrowns to share and they were great, too -- perfectly cooked with just the right amount of crisp. Agreeing with previous posts, the service left something to be desired. If offered a beverage from the bar, I would have gladly ordered a mixed mimosa. Alas, our waiter did admit to just coming off the evening shift and being unfamiliar with the brunch menu. According to our experience, be prepared to flag down your waiter if you need anything. He wasn't very attentive. The food did take awhile to arrive, but we were happy to hang out and enjoy the nice atmosphere and our last moments in Savannah. It was definitely worth the wait! If you dine there, especially for Sunday brunch, be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. We made ours the night before via OpenTable and the only available times were 9, 9:30, and 12:15. The place fills up quickly, and others who came at our same time that did not have a reservation were enduring 45 minute waits. This place honors reservations! Ours was for 9:30 and we arrived at 9:35. At most places, it seems that we are still required to wait another 15 minutes for a table with a reservation. At B. Matthew's, we were seated immediately. My husband and I were told by the valet at our hotel to come over here. We had eaten at Garibaldi the night prior, and it were somewhat disappointed. The atmosphere here is much more casual. It was packed and we had to wait a few minutes for a table, but were able to get a drink at the bar from the hostess, who is apparently also the bartender. Great drinks. Loved the blackberry ancho margarita! My husband is Very picky about his martinis, and she made it just right. We were told 20 mins for a table but soon after we got our drinks we were seated. Server was very friendly, although it took a few minutes before she got to our table. But once she came, service was prompt. We ask a lot of questions about the menu, and she seemed very knowledgeable. I ordered the Mushroom strudel upon recommendation. It was excellent! And the portion was enough to share with my husband and not be full before our entrees. For my entree I had the tuna over linguini and my husband had the pork loin. I loved my dish. The server said the pasta was fresh made and you could definitely tell! It was great! My husband loved his pork loin too. I had a bite, and was tempted to switch plates with him! My only complaint is that it was quite loud in the restaurant because it was full... We had trouble hearing our soft spoken server at times. My extended family and I had breakfast/lunch yesterday at B Matthew's. When I say extended, I mean we had a party of 18 of us in all. The matron of our family was in a wheel a wheel chair and the restaurant was very accommodating to fit us all in. Our server, Antonio, I can not say enough good things about him. He made sure to stop and talk to our two Grandmothers and made sure to repeat back their orders to them and even compliment their choices. When it came to drinks, he did not hold back. When asked what kind of juices he had available for the ladies, he listed at least 5 different kinds of juices. He was able to take our order the first time without coming back and asking questions. Several times before when our family as a whole have gone out, we would have problems getting our large orders straight, but not here at B Matthew's! The drinks that were ordered from the bar were superb. We had the Good Morning Lavender and Bloody Mary's. Over all, we had a great time and highly suggest it as a place for lunch. I ordered shrimp and grits which was amazing!! They were so cheesy and topped with pan seared shrimp, green onions, and diced tomatoes. Perfect flavor combination. And I ordered a biscuit on the side because I cannot really be expected to pass up a southern biscuit, right? Such a filling and scrumptious breakfast! To be honest, I couldn't finish my dish on my own. And I didn't want my fiancé to have it; I wanted it all to myself...despite being full. But since we were leaving that day I had to concede and share my leftovers. My fiancé ordered a scramble which was kinda cold so he asked them to reheat it. After that he enjoyed it. From the sounds of the other reviews, this place is always packed. However, We arrived late afternoon (~2pm) and were seated immediately. The staff was not overly friendly, but very efficient and to the point. One of us got the Black Eyed Pea Cake Sandwich and the other got the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich and we each had 1/2 of each. They were amazing! Very unique southern dishes with a generous amount of remoulade to detract from some of the dryness from the bread. Very creative take on each of those dishes! I would highly recommend getting the Blue Cheese & Bacon Pasta as a side dish- worth every bite. The mimosas were good- although nothing really set them apart from any other standard mimosa. This place seems to be a pretty standard staple of the Savannah dining scene- and rightfully so. The only real downside: only 1 bathroom, line can get long. read more

We got the lamb gyro which was just ok. But we really enjoyed the table almond butter and bread, okra fried rolls, and black eye pea hush puppies. The almond butter with the hush puppies is a must. The braised short rib was hands down the best I've ever had -- so tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The service was excellent; the staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. On top of that, the cocktails were amazing and crafted with real care. We had our sons rehearsal dinner here. The woman that helped my wife out with all of the planning and customizing the menu and pricing to fit our needs was very helpful. B. Matthew's is a great hidden eatery right on Bay St. in downtown Savannah. Both the food and the wait staff is excellent. When it comes to breakfast, I seldom eat out because I can cook some mean grub. However, when I do eat out for breakfast, this is the place I go. Everything is made well, including their homemade biscuits. I definitely recommend. Oh, and if you're really hungry or looking to share a meal, look for the Lamppost Breakfast. I honestly don't even think my picture does justice to how much food comes with it. Surprisingly, the fries were really good, too. But the chicken was what really impressed me. Sometimes when you order grilled chicken, it can be super dry, but this chicken was SO tender and juicy. There wasn't a single tough or dry spot.
