He enjoyed both very much. I had coffee and the 'lamp post' which had more food then I could eat. 2 eggs, bacon (3 big pieces), fried potatoes, a biscuit, and grits. I ate what I could, the Mr. ate some too, and we still left some food on my plate. I really enjoyed the grits. I liked the way they had butter, cheese, and green onions. On 12/21, we stopped by B. Matthew's for lunch while visiting Savannah. I ordered the Cuban sandwich, and I must say--it was excellent. As a Cuban from Miami, I'm extremely particular about Cuban sandwiches, and this one did not disappoint! It was moderately priced and generously portioned--definitely big enough to share with my husband. The service was fantastic. Jay, our server, was attentive and on point, making the experience even better. We've been here before (about three years ago) and still remember how delicious the shrimp and grits were back then. We were greeted exceptionally by a lovely hostess, and were promptly seated at our reservation time. Our waitress was lovely and gave us good recommendations. We ordered a local vodka for our mixed drinks and it was delicious! The green tomatoes and the tortellini were a 10 out of 10. The flavors were unique and we almost ordered it again. For our entrées, we got the short rib which paired well with the collard greens and sweet potato, as well as the local market fish, which is a swordfish. Space is very cute, with exposed brick and industrial feel. Well lit and not too busy at brunch - we had no wait! Food was decent, the texas omelette was very good and tasted similar to a philly cheese steak. The chicken biscuit with pimento cheese was okay, the biscuit was very dry though. Potatoes were well seasoned. They have a great cocktail menu for brunch as well, I had a delicious bloody mary and my partner a "whiskey before breakfast" which was yummy too. First, Absolutely love the old building. We ate here initially out of convenience as it was right near our hotel. We quickly realized though that this would have been a restaurant worth driving across Savannah for! Service was impeccable. This place was nice! The service was good and our waiter was very nice. The inside was pretty and just gave a very casual vibe. For the food, I loved all of it. The only problem is that my friend food and my food came out room temperature. We did wish it was hotter. We both got a chicken sandwich. I did not get the cheese and gravy on top. I substituted it for jelly on the side. I did prefer it instead of the gravy on top. I was not a fan of the gravy. Over the chicken was really good on the biscuit... or bread. Cool restaurant in downtown Savannah! Visited this for NYE and was able to make a reservation on open table last minute. They did not have a set menu which I appreciated. I ordered the full size b salad and opted for ranch dressing and removed the bacon. The salad was delicious and very large for 14$. Despite making a reservation they seated us in the bar area which was a bit of a disappointment since our server was also a bartender which left us with basically server-less. My husband and I had a very disappointing meal last night. We have enjoyed brunch at B. Matthew's in the past, but our dinner experience was not pleasant. First, we waited a long time to be noticed though we had a reservation and were seated in the middle of the restaurant beside the bar. Also, there seemed to be no bartender present, and our waitress made our drinks. My husband's gimlet tasted like nail polish remover, and my tequila drink was better, but not something I would order again. We ordered the Carolina rice with shrimp and the dinner special of Mahi Mahi. The fish was small and had little flavor. My rice was mushy, and the vegetables tasted like a bag of frozen. Nothing about either meal tasted fresh. I did not finish my own. We will not return. read more

This place is delicious! Be prepared for a wait if you're brunchin over the weekend. We arrived around 11, but added our name to the waitlist around 10am. Service was amazing! We were able to add substitutions and alter our meals the way we wanted with no issue (we had some vegetarians in our party). The food was so good! And the carafe of mimosa was perfect for the four of us. Be mindful of parking, this is in the quieter end of Bay Street, but it can still be busy! Our server only had 3 tables and he was too busy flirting with a big table of girls to fill our water glasses during the entire meal. Meal was decent, but not exceptional. Shrimp and grits were so runny they were served with a spoon. It was like shrimp and malt-o-meal. The shrimp themselves were good but the grits left something to seriously be desired. The crab cakes were mushy and tasteless. They seem to be prepacked and frozen. They were also out of 3 menu items, one of which we wanted so that stinks. When the bill finally came the server selected his own tip on the hand-held POS device. Umm.... No. That's not how it works. I get to pick it. A nice place for breakfast/brunch in Savannah's historic district. If you like old buildings the dining space might be as good (or better) than the menu. There is a lot to look at in the details of this old southern home turned dining establishment. Our server (AJ) was great, making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our breakfasts. I had The Lamppost and substituted fruit for grits (sorry, this northern girl just doesn't get the love of grits) My eggs were cooked perfectly, the potatoes were very good and you could tell the biscuit was homemade. On our way out of town, we wanted one last breakfast stop... my hubby and I found B Matthews Eatery and on looks the place is very nice. I really love red brick walls inside the restaurant and the bar was on the smaller side but very nice looking too. And of course the menu looked pretty good too so we took a table. I had their French Toast which is made with challah bread. We use challah bread to make french toast at home but I think mine was better. It come with a berry preserve (which was very good but I don't really use on french toast). It also came with bacon. My husband got their Lumberjack Omelette which he said was pretty good; he didn't leave any leftovers so it must've been good. I'd give it another try; maybe next time I will try their lunch items that did sound good on the menu (Shrimp 'N Grits or the Apple Pecan Chicken Sandwich). read more

We were also seated next to a rather obnoxious patron, which didn't help improve the experience. The food was okay, nothing spectacular or worth coming back for. Overall, I'd have expected a better seating location with reservations. It felt like we were just tucked in someplace at the last minute, and the staff didn't greet us and weren't helpful overall. Came here for breakfast last weekend while in Savannah. Def recommend getting a reservation this place was pretty busy. Very cool southern home style vibe made our breakfast experience welcoming. Our waitress greeted us quickly, told us about specials, gave great recommendations on the menu, and was very tentative to us. Started off with the Hot Mary bloody and my wife got a mimosa. For our main courses my wife ordered the Classic Breakfast and I got the Fried Green Tomato & Crab Cake Benny. Her biscuits with the homemade gravy was very good but the benedict stole the show for me it was so full of flavor and very delicious. The brunch we had at B Matthew's Eatery was hands down the best meal we ate in Savannah. I will warn you there will be a wait (as there seems to be everywhere in Savannah) but it wasn't too long (about 45 mins) and the time passed fairly quickly. My table decided to split the crab cake benedict, the fried chicken sandwich, and the brussels sprouts. The chicken sandwich was just okay in my opinion, and the grits that came with it were actually very bland, but the crab cake benedict and the brussels sprouts were both amazing. The crab cake was flaky and was perched atop a fried green tomato and a perfectly baked biscuit. I think there may have also been pimento cheese involved? I can't remember but what I do remember is that this was probably the best benedict I've had and if I lived in Savannah I'd for sure be back in a heartbeat. read more

This was a new restaurant for us in Savannah, and a solid brunch it was! The location is great as it's just across from the river walk. We walked in with no reservation and got the last table available, so I would recommend a reservation if you are in a time crunch- it was pretty busy! We ordered some brunch cocktails and they were quite good and refreshing. I do wish they had a larger beer selection, but they do have several local beers available. I ordered a mule of some sort (it was a special that day and I forgot what they called it) and it was a great way to escape the 107 heat index that day and was beautifully presented. I ordered the breakfast T.A.B.L.E. sandwich (tomato, avocado, bacon, lettuce, egg) sandwich. The sandwich itself was pretty good- I did forget there was avocado on there because it was a very thin layer and would have added some depth to the sandwich if there was more of the spread. I don't like tomatoes, but I feel like that would add some heartiness to the sandwich if that's up your alley. My husband ordered the Chicken N' Biscuit which had pimento cheese and gravy on it. It was solid as well, but neither one of these blew us out of the water. I will say that the sides were our favorite part of the meal. We ordered the cheese grits and collards, and both were home runs. The service was impressive, especially with how busy it was. Our server was very attentive and super friendly. Our food and drinks came out quickly and we didn't feel rushed at all. I think we would try this place again as there were a few other things that looked great both on the brunch and lunch menus. I liked it. I liked it a lot. Dinner was very good and service was prompt and attentive. We sampled multiple appetizers and entrees, and the only real weak point was the desserts. I would definitely consider this place a great spot for a date night, a family get-together or a meet-up for friends. I don't normally like beets (at all) but I would recommend the Harissa Beets plate as a starter. Fresh and vibrant, it sets the palate up for the rest of the meal without being heavy and filling. The cheese plate is hard to resist, and includes some interesting flavors, including some honeycomb and a fresh berry jam. Dinner was very good -- high points included the chicken thighs which were very tender and savory, accompanied by the potato gratin and a fresh slaw. Not quite as remarkable were the semolina gnocchi which presented more like a polenta and didn't please the senses the same way a real gnocchi does. Tasty nonetheless, it makes a decent companion to an added protein, but is underwhelming as a vegetarian dish on its own. And for the unfortunate desserts, oh well, the tiramisu was runny and the cheesecake was only slightly better. Coffee and drinks throughout the night were great, and overall this place is worth the visit. read more
