I've come here several times now and have always left with a full stomach and super satisfied. While there were long waits when they first opened, it isn't too hard to get a seat now, especially if you're able to put yourself down on the waiting list. We always get the pot for 4 (have never come with less than 4 people) and this worked for us even with a party of 5 - it's a ton of food for a decent price. We always get the traditional sauerkrout pot with fish and mix and match the appetizers - I am partial to the spicy chicken and fried dough (youtiao), but all are solid. The only one I didn't love was the noodles given you're given plenty of carbs already. The mochi is honestly super delicious as well if you have room for dessert - it's a great texture and flavor. Overall, we have enjoyed every meal we've had here and could not recommend it enough. Service is also solid and boxing your meal results in a super fun packaging that is easy to transport. I loveee this spot! Best (I'm not exaggerating) pickled fish soup I've had in the area. A combo for two is good for 3-4 people - you can choose the soup base, 2 toppings and 2 sides! The half and half fish and beef soup combo is the best of both worlds. It is HUGE and full of flavor. The pickle is not too overpowering either and the soup doesn't have a fishy smell. Their sides are also tasty and come in unique presentation. Make sure you try their freshly made mochi for dessert! The service is quick and friendly. Good atmosphere. I keep coming back here. -9/10
Food was actually delicious. I do have one comment/criticism that I feel the need to express and let the management/owner know... talking about societal norms. This is regarding the big sign/ads that is taking up a huge space on each of the dining table... See attached picture. I found it quite annoying how much you'd have to do to get their "free" mere $7 worth of mochi dessert. Not must recommend to a friend! You just recommend to THREE friends (or to a chat group), per their requirement!!! Or if post on IG, etc, you'd have to talk abt the experience and what not. Provide the ADDRESS! Whoa. Who on social media still uses addresses provided by their friends -- pretty sure these days folks just have Google Maps point out where so and so is located... For the management: the trend today, you just have to follow them or Yelp abt them, and you'd get the free mochi... not write a novel with all the names and locations and publish it to the whole world... and in case you're wondering why there probably aren't that many customers desperate enough to claim your free mochi, maybe because of the voluminous requirements you impose for claiming the "free" mochi. I thought I get this off my chest.
parking is street as everything in this area. been here a few times, it's been very consistent, delicious, and spicy good! the place is small, with under a dozen tables. the service is quick. they'll take your order if you're waiting in line and serve you as you sit down. we usually select a set for two people or four and or both depending on the group. we haven't had a dish we didn't like here. everything is fresh. the flavors are BOLD and unforgiving. it doesn't apologize for its tongue burning numbing sensations. will return
I've been meaning to try this place and finally went on a Saturday for lunch! It is a small restaurant and got busy pretty fast! We got the combo meal, small tomato with fish&beef with the fried pork and fried fish skins. The portion was bigger than I thought! It was so good and flavorful! The only thing is I wish there were more options for non spicy, tomato was the only option on the menu. I love that the food also came out so quickly! This combo for 2 people definitely could've been for 3! You definitely get a good amount of food for the price. I definitely recommend trying this place out!
Service was quick and efficient! Inside is pretty small, casual and cozy. We got the combo pot with fish soup, cucumber salad, and chicken stomach. Everything was very tasty! My favorite though was the free milk mochi we got. So milky, soft, and chewy! Very filling meal for reasonable price.

Another hotpot style soup restaurant on Harvard Ave. I came on a weeknight for dinner with a friend and we ordered the vine pepper numbing since we didn't want the super spicy szechaun red peppers. We got it with noodles, lotus root, and fried buns. This soup was delicious and definitely still very spicy! The noodles were chewy and bouncy. Thankfully the fried buns helped to take away some of the spice. When we finished our meal, the takeout container was very sturdy and you could put it right back on your stove to heat up and enjoy again for another meal. If you're looking for a spicy soup, I would recommend coming to try this place!
Yeah I'm going back. Whoever lives in Allston please do me a favor and put us on the waitlist and you can eat with us but actually food was great, even in the dead of summer the fish was so enjoyable. Small footprint but they utilize their space well.
B2J is another tasty option added to the Allston Asian food scene. It is located in a tiny space tangential to the main road. The restaurant itself has only 8-10 tables, so getting there at open or joining the wishlist is very important. The restaurant specializes in spicy hot and sour soup with your choice of veggies and meat. We opted the boiled fish with the spicy and pickled vegetables. You can also pick multiple sides to go with the main meal. So tasty! The service is very on top of it as they need to be because the line is always so long. Great restaurant!
Great new addition to Allston. The taste of the signature soup is great and balanced. They serve not hot tea alongside your meal. Be sure to arrive early and get on the waitlist because the wait builds very quickly!
Spicy sour broth the golden broth is our favorite. Service has been fine! Our server this last time was very kind! We usually order: Small combo golden spicy sour broth - 1lb. Beef + fish - bean curd skin + spam - fried milk curd + spicy chicken (cold) or crispy pork belly This is definitely enough for 2 of us, probably 3 people even depending on how big of an eater group you have! Everything came out quickly, i enjoy the broth a lot, it's not overly spicy and the sour tang is yummy. The beef is super tender, we usually bring the beef to the top so it doesn't end up overcooking while being in there. Feels like a good portion. The sides you add to it are also dumped in there pretty hefty. The crispy pork was alright, it would be nice if a bit crispier, ours didn't have that crunch when initially biting into it. Maybe not the way it's supposed to be but for me anyways. The milk curd was good to me, light flaky crispy. The lady loves the cold spicy chicken dish, that's almost a meal in itself. B2J Tasty Pot is so good, I ended up coming here two nights in a row for dinner! My first visit here, we ordered a combo for 2. This comes with a small pot with 1 lb of your choice of broth & protein (fish, beef, or both), 2 add-ons to your pot, 2 appetizer sides, and 2 bowls of rice. We did: - fish and beef with signature spicy sour broth (mild spicy) - 2 add ons: bean curd sticks + spam - 2 sides: spiced chicken w/ chili sauce & house made fried milk custard The combos are such a good deal! If you order a small pot of fish & beef on its own, it's $39.99. For $26 more, you get 2 add ons, 2 sides, & 2 bowls of rice. BUT I guess if you're not too hungry, you could totally get away with ordering just the pot! We typically order appetizer dishes whenever we go out to eat & had planned to get some sides anyways, so the combo deal worked in our favor. With that being said, i think next time we come, we could totally do the small pot with 1 side = $50. Honestly, it did end up being way more food than we could finish & we had leftovers to take back with us. For my second visit, we were a party of 5 and decided to get the combo for 3! This includes a medium pot (1.5lb protein of choice), 3 add-ons, and 3 side dishes. This was the perfect amount of food for us. I think if we had done the combo for 4, it would've been way too much. I'd say, the combos are great but totally not necessary. Only go for it if you actually see some appetizers & add-ons you'd like. The spiced chicken is my favorite side/appetizer! It is served cold & is decently spicy. Both visits, I opted for the same broth & protein: fish + beef. Fish & beef were cooked perfectly. I liked that the beef was soft & not hard to chew. This place recently opened near us, and every time we walked by, we were intrigued by the huge bowls! We ordered the combo meal for two, and the portions were enormous. Even though it's called a "small pot," it could have easily fed three people. For our hot pot, we chose wide starch noodles, pork meatballs, and a half fish, half beef combination. The pork meatballs were just okay. Since I can't handle Sichuan spice, we went with the tomato broth. If you're able to tolerate spicy food, I'd recommend trying the Sichuan broth since that's what they specialize in. The tomato broth was a bit underwhelming and reminded me of American-style tomato soup. We also ordered the crispy fried pork belly and takoyaki. The crispy pork belly was definitely the standout--I highly recommend it! It came with a flavorful dry spice seasoning for dipping that made it even better. This pickled fish really has to be the green peppercorn (tengjiao) flavor--it's the best Highly recommend adding yuba (tofu skin), luncheon meat, and wide glass noodles. Honestly, I super recommend this place overall. The watermelon juice is also really good!! Tastes like it's freshly squeezed And the fern root noodles are delicious too! read more

Unexpectedly obsessed with this place! B2J Tasty Pot serves up fish like no one else -- super fresh, perfectly tender, and soaked in that addictive sour-spicy broth that hits all the right spots. The portions are generous, the spice is customizable (thank god), and their side dishes? Absolute bangers. Get the pickled chicken feet or spicy lotus root if you like a kick, and don't skip the free milk mochi (yes, free if you post). I moved here from California last year and have been searching for a place like this ever since!! We ordered the traditional sauerkraut beef + fish pot, and all the ingredients were very fresh and great quality. Definitely hit home for me, would highly recommend! The service was awesome as well, all the staff were really friendly, quick, and helpful :) read more
