Pork Handing Tender With Long Horn Pepper
    Dickson L.

Now this is authentic Chinese food! Specifically northeast region of China. We came in as a party of 2 on a Friday early evening and were promptly seated. The ambiance is interesting and not what I'd expect from a Chinese eatery like this - it has underlying nightclub vibes with a pretty large bar to boot, but their food and menu is really what people come for. I think it's an interesting twist compared to many other similar Chinese restaurants in the area, but not sure how well received it might be for their target audience. On to the actual food - We got a pork dish with green peppers, a bean curd dish also with green pepper, and the stirfry noodle with sour cabbage - a very northeast style Chinese dish. All were excellent, lots of flavor and just a hint of spicy, as expected, but the comparing between the dishes they seemingly had very similar flavor profile. Perhaps they just used the same wok to cook all the dishes? tldr; excellent authentic Chinese food, great portions and flavor. Eat this Chinese food if you don't handle Mala or spicy very well!

    3 entree bento

Ordered the 3 entree bento from ubereats and I would definitely order it again! It's a generous amount of food with variety. It was a little salty but was flavorful and spicy. I liked the pork in garlic sauce and celery with shrimp. I'm glad they wrapped the containers with plastic because the oil/sauces spill out of the containers during transit! It was about $30 pre fees/tip for this, which I would say is a good deal!

What an amazing addition to the Chinese food scene to an already stacked Brookline neighborhood. Northeast Eating club specializes in dishes from the north east region of China with some other staple dishes found in other regions of China. The service was excellent to start off as they got us quickly seated at a clean table during a busy dinner service. Our table ordered multiple dishes including pig ears, Dongbei Guo bao ruo (crispy sweet and sour pork), and assorted veggies with egg plant. The pork dish was definitely the star of the show. Crispy yet juicy, tangy yet sweet. Absolutely delicious meat dish that everyone should try. Come check out the modern ambiance of North East Eating Club

    Northeastern Style Sauteed Veggies

I have nothing but good things to say about Northeast Eating Club. There isn't a lot of Northeastern Chinese cuisine in the area, and I'm very impressed with the rich, hearty flavors here. The food is definitely high up there in terms of taste and quality! You can tell the food was thoughtfully made in a certain way to emphasize their flavoring. I was initially worried that I couldn't handle too much spicy food, but I was shocked that most of the food that I thought would be extremely spicy was pretty tolerable. The peppers were definitely deceiving! Here are the foods I tried and would recommend: * Sweet & Sour Pork Tenderloins - very crunchy and thin throughout! I brought this home for leftovers and they were still crunchy even after microwaving them. * Squirrel Fish - this is the first time I've had this in the Brookline/Boston area! This comes with the skin and tastes really good with the sweet sauce. * Dry Fried String Beans - thought this would be really spicy, but it actually was slightly spicy with really good dried spice/sauce around it * Northeastern Style Sauteed Veggies - also thought this was going to be really spicy, but surprisingly it wasn't! It's only spicy when you eat the peppers, so for people who like spicy, every bite is enjoyable when you eat a veggie with pepper together. * Spicy Boiled Sliced Fish - this was the spiciest dish we ordered. The fish was cut thinly, so there was plenty of surface area to have that spicy flavoring on each bite. * Ma Po Tofu - The tofu was cut in a small size, which gives it a good proportion of tofu and the sauce that surrounds it. * Shredded Pig Ear with Cucumber - this was refreshing and crunchy Workers were very attentive and provided napkins (from the spiciness) as needed! The place is also very clean with a dark kind of ambiance. This will be a default restaurant I'll be coming back to!

Food was very good. The peppers used in several of the dishes were rather spicy, fine for me as I enjoy heat in a dish but too much for my wife. Portions were sizable and delivered a good value in addition to flavor. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Interior was dark but good for couples.

The ambiance is very nice, you an be casual but the ambiance is also set up for if you want to dress up for dinner. Service is friendly and fast. I was waiting for a friend so I had a MaiTai a s a Mojito while I waited. I skipped the cold starters but people at a table next to me seemed to love them. I jumped right into entrees. And everything looked just as good and as appetizing as the pictures on the websiteThe mixed vegetables consists of perfectly cooked eggplant, peppers, and potatoes in a black sauce. The string beans with ground mean was fantastic! My husband had the bbq which he liked a lot. And I mean FANTASTIC! What I liked most about the dishes is that they were not drowning in sauce. Everything is well seasoned with good strong flavor

Great food, great vibe. Staff were super nice and friendly. Busy on a Friday night. Not strictly northeastern food since I can see they are also trying to branch out to include more cuisines to accommodate a broader audience

    Blueberry Flavor Yam
    Kathy M.

Much needed variety in the Boston area Chinese food scene and it was so goood. Everything we had was delicious and super flavorful, from the blueberry yam to the bbq skewers. The portions were huge as well, and we had leftovers from everything except the bbq. I'm especially a big fan of the blueberry sauce on the yam - it was tart and not too sweet, and paired so well with the yam. I do wish there were more veggie dishes on the menu, just to better balance out our meal. The restaurant is aesthetically very nice and decorated in a traditional Chinese style. Our party of 4 was sat at a massive booth table that could probably fit 6-8. Service was quick and very friendly, and they could speak Cantonese which was a bonus. Overall highly recommend!

House Special Salad With Pork, Eggplant With Tender Pork, Sour Cabbage Pork Dumplings
    Annie G.

Went there in their grand opening day, and had a great experience. We were seated most back in the restaurant, and were able to have a relatively private dinner, although the uncles next to us were quite loud (couldn't complain much, since the food was enough to make up to it). We ordered barbecue (chives, chicken, and beef), eggplant with pork, and sour cabbage with pork dumplings. Since it was grand opening, we got free house cabbage salad. The portion of the food was super solid, for the Boston standard. We basically had all these for two people and two meals. About the flavor, I'd say it is one of the most authentic Chinese food I've had in Boston (at least for northern Chinese food). The dumpling (sour cabbage and pork) is very rare especially this type of filling. And both me and my friend(from South Asia) enjoyed it. The eggplant and pork was also very authentic, and it happens to be saucy and sweet and flavorful. The service was prompt, and when we were checking out they even asked me if I enjoyed today's meal and if there is anything they can do better. I smiled and said that we were enjoying and had a good time here. If you want authentic northern Chinese food, I'd definitely recommend. Good service and good portion.

The staff was incredibly friendly, and I think I only waited 5 minutes from when I ordered to when the food was ready to take away, so that's pretty amazing! I ordered: Lunch special ($11.45) - The price alone here is incredible. You get a good variety of food and a good amount as well for what feels like pre-pandemic prices. I've seen a lot of lunch specials being raised to more than $15 or so recently, so the fact that this one is only $11.45 is a great deal. It also came in a tupperware with a big section and a small section, and I would have expected the rice to go in the big section and the main to go in the smaller one, but they did the opposite - so you get a really large and nice portion of your main course! The actual food I got was: Crab rangoons - These were nicely fried and the filling had noticeable pieces of imitation crab in it. I also liked the savory flavor, as some places make their filling sweeter, but this was more on the savory and salty side. Very nice crab rangoon. Pork fried rice - This was the iffy one. The flavor was on point, but the rice itself was hard and felt undercooked. It wasn't inedible, but it was definitely noticeable, though covering it in the lobster sauce made up for it. If I had ordered the fried rice alone without a sauce, I would have been pretty disappointed. Shrimp with lobster sauce - This came with 4 shrimps which is pretty standard, but it was an above average lobster sauce in my opinion. It was nice and gooey, salty, and savory, and the shrimp was very meaty. This was definitely the star of the lunch, and I had some leftover to eat with white rice for my next meal! All in all, I'd definitely come back - the price along is a great deal, and I'd like to see if the fried rice would be better on a second time around. The appetizer and main were great tasting, and the service was incredibly fast and friendly. 4/5 stars - I'd absolutely have this again!

Each of the times I remembered were tasty. The ambiance when you arrive is dramatic Chinese music in the background which makes it somewhat difficult to converse with your group. Most recently we arrived with a group of 8 for our 7:30 pm reservation without any issues. All the other tables were full but we noticed the restaurant cleared out after an hour of us being there past the peak hours. They gave us 2 containers of the standalone spicy powder so people could add on as they wanted and the less spice tolerant in our group weren't saddled with the consequences. I tried the following dishes: Lamb & Beef Kebabs - 3 sticks per order I preferred the beef texture and taste over the lamb. BBQ Lamb Ribs - they said this was the only dish that came default spicy but I didn't think it was that spicy. the smoking in the raised wooden container gave it additional flavor. I preferred lamb ribs over the kebabs. Torched Beef - one of the favorites for our table the sauce with it was also super tasty. Big Squid - challenging to cut but they give a lot of pieces and generous portion with a special sauce. Grandma's juicy pork buns - on the small side, topped with black sesame and sauce you can add on the side. it was juicy as advertised. Cucumber salad - refreshing and included peanuts for texture and flavor. Fried tofu - not too memorable but the fried texture was tasty. Bok choy - I enjoyed the sauce spread across this veggie dish. Shiitake & King Oyster Mushroom - these are 2 separate orders but I can't remember which was the skewer and which was on a regular plate. Both were overall tasty. Cauliflower - Another solid veggie option but nothing too memorable if you want to focus mainly on protein. BBQ Bread slice - one of the inauthentic cuisines and it's like French toast Kaoijiu dragon yogurt- I was expecting more dragon fruit flavor so that was a bit disappointing but it still tasted good overall. I am not sure it's worth the $10 dessert price. Overall solid food options and we didn't have any leftovers so it ended up being ~$40-60 per person depending if people also ordered drink/dessert. Worth checking out if you haven't had a chance to before they are gone forever!

Really exciting place focused on Northwest Chinese cuisine…read more The signature dish, the hand-pulled beef noodle soup, had a fairly light, but subtle, flavor. The noodles themselves I wish were chewier (got the 'flat' but probably should have gone for 'extra wide'), and perhaps it'd been nice to have some different textures inside the soup (e.g. something crunchy). The scallions in the soup were also too wide, and needed to be sliced more thinly. The beef pancake was quite decent, though the edges didn't have enough beef and the middles had too much beef. The beef was tender, though I might have liked it more flaky. The sauce inside the pancake was somewhat unevenly applied, and a bit too sweet. I wonder if a dipping sauce (maybe a vinegar?) would have helped. The blueberry with mashed yams was fascinating. It was listed under appetizers, and wondered why the dish came out last. But the dish was a bit sweet (naturally!) and so it actually worked as a light modest dessert! The wait staff was spot on after all in putting out the dish last. The stir-fried cabbage dish was beautiful! It was appropriately crunch, yet using good wok hey. The salt level was a bit high, but the spice level was good. Their spice ratings were a bit timid to what I encounter in Szechuan restaurants (the 'regular' level seemed to be more 'mild-regular'). With the only non-Asian waiter in the restaurant, he struggled with basic elements of service. Inattentive. Requests went unmet (lemons for water). We sat for more than 15 mins after asking to box up leftovers and to close our check. This was all a little embarrassing, as we brought my boyfriend's father. It's $50 for the regular AYCE or $80 for the Premium AYCE. We opted for the former, and it was plenty great. We have done lots of AYCE sushi and I will say this is the BEST of them - I think it's because it's the same grade sushi as they would normally do Ala carte on other nights. The $50 menu had plenty of sashimi and regular nigiri (sushi with rice) options and some Thai too. We had mostly the sashimi Salmon, Tuna, Yellowtail, Octopus, a few rolls, some edamame, gyoza, shumai. My favorites were the salmon, as the cuts were large, thick and amazing silky, and the gyoza, as it was perfectly crispy. The Pad Thai was bit way too sweet for my taste - a skip for me next time. The decor is very nice - reminded me of a dive Tokyo bar. Service was quick and very attentive. We will be back!

With what…read moreseems to be a recent price increase, now $50++ allows access to a good variety of sushi/sashimi, on top of apps, ramen, poke bowls, and cooked rice/noodle dishes. Whereas $80++ offers diners a set of amount of uni, plus unlimited amount of everything else, wagyu included. Sounds like a good deal, especially when one can eat a lot. Even as we are no longer Team Eat Till You Burst, we went for the premium, mainly for the nicer cuts such as toro and wagyu, and because uni!! Jumping in shortly after 5pm, we were promptly seated, marked a bunch of stuff on paper, and soon after submission, we got food brought to our table. It was a decent meal overall, so why 3 stars? Let's recap. Menu variety is fantastic, though of course we didn't get "one of everything", coz that's simply impossible. While the premium did cover a lot of grounds, it would have been nice if they also included anago (sea eel) which is currently only available on the a la cart menu, and maybe even offer couple lesser-known items such as monk fish liver app, sea grapes, off-the-beaten-path fish cuts, what have you. Would be happy even if we only get an allotment of those like we do with the uni. Now, service - great overall. Servers circulated around and were alert of customers' needs. Approached at appropriate times to take our order sheets, refill water, provide new order sheets, and ask if we wanted more food. So kudos on that. Their denotation of serving "regular portion" of cooked food had us hesitant in ordering, since we didn't want to be wasteful (or use our limited stomach space for dishes we can easily get elsewhere). But from other tables' orders as well as the one noodle dish that we ended up getting, it seems that the portion size was what I would like to see at AYCE places -- about 50-60% of regular Asian dish size, where 3-4 people can each have a couple bites "just to try". However, to think if that is what they call "regular portion", then it is definitely "Brookline pricing" on a la carte, which I would not recommend one to do such things on these items. Food is fantastic in general; we got a variety of stuff, and everything was really of top quality and taste. The meal would have been a "highly recommended" if they didn't serve the uni that we got. Out of the 12 pcs of uni sushi, all of them were... while not "foul" to a point where one cannot safely consume, they were definitely more sub-par than "ok but not great". Colors aside (which I understand there can be a range depending on origins and such), the uni was a "splat" of yellow stuff on rice, without distinct shape of the flesh. On top of the fishy smell (I'm talking about slightly ammonia-ish), the presentation and taste-texture upon them hitting our tongues... really left the ENTIRE room to be desired. In retrospect, we should have sent them back even if they weren't going to replace them. But instead, we stupidly forced ourselves to shove them all down in cowardly silence, then ordered another round of wagyu just to make us feel a little better about it. Yes, we weren't smart as customers. But if the restaurant is going to charge $100++ per person (after tax and tip), someone from the kitchen should have known better than pushing this thing out for customers to deal with. In their defense, yes, the uni itself was still "edible" in a sense that it didn't make us sick, but I'd maintain that better judgment should have been made. Once the shell was cracked open and you see this pale-gray yellow mush, it should have been decided that it is better repurposed, than be served straight to your customers as your star/featured product. As seen in other diners' experiences, it could just have been a one-off mishap, so I'm not knocking them entirely. But I do hope the restaurant would improve on their QC accordingly. It was such a disappointing low point in an otherwise wonderful meal.
