Ok so I have been going to BaBas in Joliet for almost two decades and fell in love with their cheesesteaks and amazing frozen lemonades, which were This amazing combination of lemonade and shaved ice. Almost like an Italian ice Combined with Lemonade. When they opened up in Bolingbrook I was excited. Been here so many times. Now have to admit that with covid etc. it's been some time since we last went. We had a craving so we went tonight. Service is always prompt and the cheesesteak was as good as ever. However that is where they lost us! as we started enjoying our frozen lemonades, one lemon and one strawberry, we realized that they filed most of the glasses with big ice cubes!!! Not sure if this was a one time mistake or if they are trying to cut costs by filling the glass with big ice vs the shaved ice. Total cheap move!!!! If this is the new norm we will NOT give them any more business!!! Not sure if this is just this location so going to go back to Joliet and will post review for that location. First off let me apologize for not putting up pictures the food didn't stand a chance lol, yet I highly recommend Baba's catfish fillet dinner which was tasty with a hint of lemon pepper & fries. Ordered food to go last night on the recommendation of a friend who lives in town. She raved about the chicken wings so on our way home, we stopped and ordered 30 chicken wings, fries, a Philly steak sandwich and two lemonades - one mango one pineapple. Food: Wings: I thought they were excellent. They are not like a buffalo wing if that's what you're thinking.They do not separate at the joint so you get the wing, plus the tiny drumstick. They are breaded like a fried chicken. We opted for the mild sauce which was OK but I preferred the few wings that I had the lemon pepper sprinkled on. Those were extremely tasty without the sauce.My husband prefers just the wing part so he kept giving me the tiny drumsticks but other than that, he enjoyed them immensely W/ the mild sauce. Philly steak sandwich: I am no Philly steak sandwich aficionado in fact I didn't think I liked them. But I loved the sandwich! In addition to the usual ingredients, it had roasted red peppers which were to die for! Lemonades: I felt they were far too sweet for my liking but my daughter enjoyed them. I cut mine with a lot of sparkling water and it was delicious. Service: I have read some of the reviews and could definitely believe at least some of the stories. While I was not treated poorly, it was definitely not the most friendly exchange. We ordered and paid online via GrubHub. Seem to be a simple transaction which told us exactly when the food would be ready. We drove over and My 16-year-old daughter went in to pick it up. During this time of this pandemic, we have ordered out quite a bit and my daughter has no problems going in and picking up our order as well as paying if need be. She walked in to simply pick up the order and stated my name which was on the order. She came back to the car without the food and said, "You didn't tell me it wasn't paid for!" Knowing that it was, I went back in myself. I explained to the gentleman at the counter what had just happened and showed them my receipt on my phone. There was a fair amount of confusion which in sued and finally they asked me my name again and it appears they were trying to give us a different order. I am assuming the best in this situation. I must add at this point, that not only was there a miscommunication but it was exacerbated by the absolute blaring rap music in the restaurant. Even my 16-year-old complained to me how loud it was in the restaurant. The type of music is not my favorite but I don't expect to walk into a place of business and have the F word screaming at me. Which is what happened. I was by myself so I let even that slide but if I had been with young children, I would've had a serious problem with the situation. The nicest person And the one who was able to cut through the miscommunication and the blaring music was the young boy about 10 to 12 years old behind the counter with I can only assume, his brothers. The young boy was kind, and courteous. Not to mention, a very capable young worker! As his counterpart was showing me my order, he quickly grabbed the drinks. This place has anything from tacos and burritos to burgers and wraps to salads and fries. So many different things to try and super great prices! I was surprised but the food is great and their fries are the best I've had anywhere! The lemonade I had there I didn't like. But to each his own. The place is a bit rundown and not the cleanest setting but it's one of those "rundown but yum" places. It's maybe not a place id drive out to to eat but if you live in the area and it's five minutes away from you or better yet walking distance, I'd definitely recommend to stop by. There's been a few times when I came home to an empty fridge and Babas was there for me. It has a lot of seating area so if you bring your whole family it would be ok. We really enjoy Baba's food. If you don't mind the intimidating environment after sunset because it's dark in the parking lot, you'll be fine. We ordered fried Chicken Wings which are the perfect crispy, delicious in flavor, with their added lemon-pepper seasoning; fried Catfish Filets and fries. We had no mercy on the food. My picky eating 7 year old granddaughter brags on how many wings she's eaten. Baba's help make an enjoyable weekend. read more

I just bought a small plate of gizzard. The first 2 pieces were good. But when I was eating the 3rd piece, I tasted some kinda weird and bitter taste. They didn't clean the gizzard well. They didn't peel off the poop lining. GROSS!!!! I Today 7/30/20, my daughter bought me "pick 2 meal". I really didn't want to eat anything from this place because of my past "gross" experience, but I was hungry and I was hoping that they fixed my issues with them already. This time, the chickens and gizzards are looking fresh and good...but my problem now is the sauce they gave me...small containers are not even half full!! Well, then, welcome to Baba's - coz this place is exactly reminiscent of that joint from your childhood! So far I've had their catfish filets, hot dogs, buffalo wings, and fried chicken - and they've all been good. And their frozen lemonades are off the chains! My favorite is piña colada, but I like the green apple and strawberry too! This place may seem slightly seedy, but it's run by really great, and courteous people, and the food is always good. No complaints from me, except that this place is perpetually filled with very loud, and rambunctious teenagers, so the atmosphere can be quite...uncomfortable sometimes, otherwise good, fast and yummy food for decent prices! read more

Looks like a great late night food spot. The area is kind is sketchy and their is no friendly banter. It's pretty much a transactional type of exchange. Give me a steak sandwich and here is my money! I ordered a gyro, which was decent, and a Philly cheese steak. The Philly wasn't on par with Mojo's but satisfactory. The fries were good, something about diner type fries that smell and taste great! I think I will stop by again for takeout to try the Cheeseburger and some Fried Chicken! The Fried Chicken seems to be their most popular item as everyone who came in ordered it! Also, I have to try the Lemonade since it's in the restaurant name! I would not recommend eating here unless you have to. It's more of a pickup joint since there are only 3 tables and no waiters. The store next door is more of the sit-down type of place. I think Baba's provide service to the next door seating area. I made a mistake... A huge error that I will fix the next time I return to Baba's Famous Steak and Lemonade. Although the steak is part of the name, it became apparent that the regulars came for the chicken. By the look of things they knew what they were ordering, and I messed up, but I digress. Although I knew I messed up. I was still was happy with my ribeye steak sandwich. The sandwich was actually a legit ribeye sandwich, and what I mean by that was there was a ribeye steak in my sandwich. It wasn't sliced pieces of the steak. It was an actual steak, and it was a large portion. It was served topped with lettuce, tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms, and gooey melted cheese. To be quite frank the lettuce and tomatoes weren't really needed. I would've been just fine with the steak, mushrooms, and cheese. It was good, a little over cooked, but the all in all well done. The ribeye steak combo came with fries, and this is solidified my thoughts that I made a huge mistake with my order. Like I said I liked the steak sandwich, but when I had the fries, I realized I should have gotten the fried chicken. Reason being, the fries were exceptional. They were super crispy on the outside and silky on the inside. All I can think was if they do fries this good here, I wonder how great that chicken would be. Baba's Famous Steak and Lemonade may have steak in it's name, but next time, I'm for sure getting the fried chicken. All in all, my experience with Baba's was really good. The food was tasty. My first time at this location. I've been to a south side location not sure if they are connected. I tried the chicken philly customized to my liking i will say it was pretty good. Omg- I think I just died and went to heaven! This place is nothing to look at and is in a rough part of town. I wouldn't want to go there at night. Earlier I was trying to find another Philly Cheesesteak place for a friend and this came up right across town. So I decided to try it. Upon walking into this place I didn't know what to think but it was fabulous! I had a Philly cheesesteak which was deep fried and served with french fries which were a little soggy after having the Cheesesteak sit on top of it. Still good! My first sip of their homemade frozen lemonade was orgasmic! The cost for all this $11!? Not bad at all for all this! I wish I could rate them zero. That has not always been the case - this is new - and awful. Apparently there's new management on site - the younger man was much more professional and personable. This older male is apparently now the manager, and has implemented "rules" that are insulting and that defy good customer service. We have many gatherings - some planned and some quite impromptu. For years now we would simply call this establishment and order 50 or 100 wings depending on the group size. I called a couple of weeks ago and was told that I have to come in to place an order. Huh? So I just called J&J, ordered the wings and catfish nuggets - a half pan - and it worked out fine. I did call Baba's to speak with the manager and he affirmed that this was his rule ... explained his reasoning, and said that if he knows who it is he can take the order by phone. Strike one. Oh, and there's an up charge for using a credit card - most businesses that are reputable and respect their customer base assume that business cost - its the price paid to do business. His new rules. Strike two. Last night my Grandson and his two friends arrived in town for Christmas, and they wanted Baba's. I drive them there and ask my Grandson to also order a half pan of catfish nuggets along with their food. He tried to but was 1) told that he can order a small or a large catfish nugget, and 2) was asked if he's sure his Grandmother is actually coming. Huh? What? Who does this guy think he is to ask this customer that question, as if to imply that he could be lying. When my Grandson called me - in the car, in the lot - and told me about the small or large I told him never mind. He told this older male that, to which he was met with more rude, nasty, and condescending treatment. He said that he doesn't play games about his food. Huh? His nasty demeanor and heavy accent and broken English clearly created a miscommunication. So busy profiling and being rude, unkind, and dismissive, along with very questionable, ghetto,' "rules" with a nasty approach. Why is this type of treatment even in Bolingbrook???? These young men, upon their return to the car, were upset that this person was so rude to them. All three are wonderful young men, High School athletes, and consistently carry good grades. They are well mannered and respectful - they communicate well - and they have no reason to tell anything but the truth about this. I was in the car watching this the whole time. There'd be no reason for this older male to ask if I was actually coming, because my Grandson made clear that I was in the car. Rude older male " manager" said he didn't tell them the nuggets could only be small or large, yet all three heard the same thing and were more upset now that this business owner who was extremely rude to them - dismissive and condescending when they first entered - was also not telling the truth. This older male told me that his rule is 40 wings ordered by phone - his rule - take it or leave it. He said this to me. This was not Baba's that we frequented. Things are very different now. The customer service my African American Grandson and his friends received was horrible, and nobody should be made to feel that they don't matter - or that they can be spoken to with disrespect and even disdain. Strike THREE... and let's just say that the J&J's was excellent, and will be our new go to. I did not take the nuggets from Baba's, and was sorry the guys had given their money to this guy. It was a teachable moment ... to NEVER spend your money in a place that ONLY wants your money, and does not respect you enough to want you as a customer. The Bolingbrook community deserves more and better than these "rules" that offer inconvenience and imply that the consumer is not trustworthy. Part of being in business is assuming certain risks - this guy chooses to not assume any even though it's insulting to the community - and my family will not be returning. Ever. We know many people in this community and will use our word of mouth to make sure others know our story and can decide if they want to do business with this new culture of Baba's. Bringing this mentality and treatment into Bolingbrook is concerning to me ... others I'm sure will feel the same. After specifically noting I wanted hot sauce, I even called the store and spoke to a women who was so rude and in a rush to get off the phone with me and still didn't receive my hot sauce. Well, my first post, which I posted after my first two visits, made this place out to be heavenly. My next 3, however, brought it down to earth. Visit #3, I had a burger. Nothing spectacular, just an average 3-star burger. Visit #4 (take-out, as were all the rest), was by far the worse. I ordered Jumbo Shrimp. I understand that nothing out this way will ever compare to the Archer Avenue shrimp shacks I grew up with, But nowhere did I ever have the breading just come off like a mitten when I dipped it in my shrimp sauce (which I had to request, as they were about to give me BBQ sauce instead). Taste was just okay. My son ordered a crispy Philly cheese (like the one we shared in Visit #1), but they left off the crispy and just gave a regular one (though the receipt said crispy). He said it was just okay. But the part that upset me the most had nothing to do with our order. This was the first time the older, stoned-faced man waited on me, On all other occasions, it was a more cheerful, younger man. But he (the older man) also waited on two young boys ahead of me who ordered chicken. Now the menu here is a little strange. Probably written by someone whose first language is not English (as evident from there Reuben, which used to be referred to as a "Robin Sandwich"). But for the chicken, something like "2 piece leg and thigh" means 2 pieces total (not 2 of each), In fact, when I ordered chicken on my Visit #2, the young cheerful man explained this. But evidently, the older stone-faced man did not explain that to the boys, so when their chicken was ready and they saw it was only 2 pieces each instead of the 4 they expected, they asked (after being told that 2-piece leg and thigh means 1 of each) if they could get 2 more pieces each (and pay the difference, and, yes, wait another 15 minutes), but were told no, that they'd have to order other dinners with fries, as they don't sell chicken by the piece (which they ended up doing). 1-star. Visit #5, I had a gyro sandwich. Slightly better than average, but no Cedar Grill (my favorite). 3-1/2 stars. read more

I am a fan of Baba's but on my most recent visit I was sadly disappointed. Trying something new, I opted for the catfish nugget dinner - #tragedy! The fish was overcooked and extremely hard while the fries were a soggy limp mess. The wonderful sauce couldn't even save this fail. I will give this location the benefit of the doubt due to the fact I have ordered several pans of chicken wings on prior occasions with success!
