The location in Sanger offers roast beef, roasted chicken, and some other options. With Babe's, it's not what they serve that's so special, but how good it is. Do you like scrumptious meat that melts in your mouth like it was made in heaven? How about buttery cloud biscuits? Well, Babe's is the place for you!! If you go with plain ol' fried chicken or chicken tenders, you most definitely will not be disappointed. Best tenders I've ever tasted, hands down. They're fried perfectly with a light and crispy batter hugging the moist and tender meat. And they give you PLENTY of them. They serve like-meats on the same platter, so with just three orders you'll end up with a heaping pile of golden chicken that could feed an army. Plenty for left overs... I like to take a few of their biscuits home and make my own breakfast chicken biscuit sandwiches the next morning. Their only carry out container offered is a small, clear grocery bag, though, so you probably won't make it out with any of the other sides. You can buy extras to go, however, if needed. The family style sides just takes it over the top wonderful. The salad, a simple mix of iceberg lettuce with their vinaigrette, is strangely addictive. The chicken's served with mashed potatoes, white gravy, cut italian green beans, corn, and more biscuits. They're bottomless and the servers are great about checking up on you and bringing out more as needed. As far as the other menu offerings go, I've heard from a few friends that the roast chicken is a little on the dry side, the catfish is pretty standard, and have never had the pleasure of pot roast. GREAT place for groups. I've hosted multiple parties here and the atmosphere is perfect for a good time. They don't take reservations, but do appreciate call aheads for larger groups and will normally have the table prepped by the time you get there. It can get loud, but that's more fun at places like this. Probably thanks to the BYOB. :) Entrees with all sides will run you about $12... can't beat that for endless ecstasy! Side note: I'd recommend checking out the menu for the location you're visiting online first. Not all locations carry all options... Mom has been raving about this place. We took a little road trip to visit my cousin in nearby Denton. The food, was, well ok. We shared the chicken fried steak. Maybe, I should have insisted on chicken. The chicken fried steak was tasty, I have had better. It is big enough to share. The mashed taters are nice and creamy. The gravy, it was a little to thick for me. The corn was tasteless, the green beans extremely salty. The biscuits, they had me at carbolicious. This establishment is very much a novelty. Best chicken around! We usually go for birthdays, and as a party of 10, we ordered 6 plates of chicken and two orders of sides, which was PLENTY! We even had plenty of leftovers to take home! The chicken is always juicy and tender on the inside, and crunchy on the outside. The veggies are fresh and bottomless! We got greeted with wonderful smiles and enthusiasm. Good start for our first time being here. We were seated in the far back which felt like the busiest traffic in the place. I don't know if this was custom for Babe's s but we were not greeted for exactly 17 minutes.( yes I kept track). I believe our waitress's name was Brittany? My hubby saw the billboard for this place. So we decided to try it. It's a nice place clean and the staff are friendly. We got there when they open very few people had arrive. The hostess sat a family of four right next to us when there 50 other open tables. Ordered one chicken plate as I wasn't feeling 100%. It was really good. Mashed potatoes were ok too much sour cream in the mix. The manager came over and asked how everything was. We told him you can taste the sour cream in the potatoes. We were looking for something that you couldn't find in NYC and Babe's definitely delivered. It's about as far away from the city as you can get. This location, in the small town of Sanger, is a bit more remote but has shorter lines than the very popular Roanoke location (we were seated as soon as we walked in). Food is served partially family style. Everyone gets their own choice of entree (Fried Chicken, Chicken Tenders, Chicken Fried Steak, Smoked Chicken, or Catfish). Everything else (except dessert and drinks) is shared and unlimited. This includes salad, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, beans, and biscuits. The food here is insanely good and authentic. This includes the proteins and the sides. Rest assured, you'll go home very, very full, even if you skip dessert. The place itself has to be seen to be believed - but it's lots of fun. The decor is random and fun - including the boat the in the dining room. We ate with "Rick" - a mannequin cowboy who was also seated at our table. Oh my gosh this place is as close to grandma's cooking as it gets! It was SO good i wish I had more room in my stomach to keep eating i loved the food that much! I can't decide if I loved the mashed potatoes, the corn, or the chicken the best it was that good. I went on a weeknight so it was steady, not too busy but not empty. This is a must stop every time we head south! The food is out of this world! Very little variety...like choose from four meats...served family style along with salad, biscuits, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy. The deserts look amazing and we always plan to get one but we can never can because we are so stuffed! Cute, eclectic atmosphere and attentive wait staff (unlike everywhere else who stretched them so thin) make the wait you encounter any time day or night worth it. The Babe's experience is lost on me. For the life of me, I can't figure out why this place is so popular! I have been several times, as this is the favorite place of a friend who now lives out of state. Who am I to deny her on the rare occasion she gets to visit? The Sanger location is central for her reunions, so this is the location with which I am most familiar, but I have had the same experience at other Babe's as well. The price is pretty high for what you get. The green beans are out of a can. I can make better mashed potatoes. The fried chicken is not well seasoned and the skin always tastes a little burned. The gravy is also under-seasoned. The salad is plain iceburg lettuce in a sugar/vinegar dressing. If you want to make it yourself, heat half a cup of vinegar in a saucepan, add half a cup of sugar and continue to heat and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Then add a fourth of a cup of wesson oil. Voila! The cheapest salad dressing on the planet - courtesy of my Depression-Era grandmother. My grandma at least used red wine vinegar! The smoked chicken is dry, the chicken-fried steak is under-seasoned and small. The catfish CAN be ok when they have the oil at the right temperature, but that is hit & miss. I've never had the chicken fingers. The corn is actually pretty good, but I can't eat enough corn to justify the price I pay to come here. No Coke, RC. The pies are TERRIBLE. The service when we went last night was a joke. I had to ask for straws, butter, silverware and no drink refills were offered without asking. We had a party of seven. Three of us got fried chicken, two got fish, one got chick-fried steak and one got chicken fingers. We received a platter of six fish fillets and a heaping platter of all the other meats. Two of our group had had bariatric surgery so barely ate. Based on what was eaten and what was available for take-home, I think we were missing a chicken. I had a southern grandma who really knew how to cook. I know what southern home-cooking is supposed to taste like. This ain't it. I'm sure I will be back in a couple of years when my friend comes through town again, but I don't have to be happy about it. read more

I loved everything about our experience at Babe's! I love places where you know you're going to be full afterwards and this is unquestionably one of them. Out of all the options, I'd recommend going for the chicken tenders... so fresh, so flaky, and with the honey mustard and barbecue sauce it can't get much better! They bring out wonderful sides (mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, gravy, biscuits, salad, etc.) and the place has a great atmosphere. While we were there some of the servers sang along with what was playing from the jukebox and everyone looked so happy to be there. It's a fun place and totally worth going! read more

Let me first lay this out. I am a Yankee. Born in Wisconsin. I say my vowels through my nose. I never order a Coke unless I am actually ordering a Coke. I arrived at Babe's to find probably 50 of my newest friends standing outside waiting to get in. This is a novelty for me. If I had to wait outside for a table in Minnesota in February, I would be hypothermic. Nice change. The restaurant is huge. It feels like it's been there forever. None of the chairs match each other but it works out just fine. The wait staff are not only attentive but many of them can sing as well. That's a nice touch. The biscuits were there in a flash. I tried molasses on my biscuit. That was new. Never had molasses before. I ordered the smoked chicken. The portion was large and the chicken was flavorful. The sides were extensive and delicious. Loved the corn. I tasted the fried chicken and the chicken fried steak from others at my table and they were excellent as well. I would definitely go back. In my most nasal and annoying Yankee accent, I will tell my fellow Yankees to go to Babe's. read more

It's one of my favorite CFS places around because it's the southern country style that I grew up with. The only thing that's not good here is the green beans. I love Babe's and have for many years! But today we brought a large group of 20 to the Sanger location. They wouldn't take reservations! Wouldn't do call ahead setting. We told them we wanted one place for everyone to sit! They came out and offered to sit half our party on one side of the restaurant and the other on the the other side after we had been waiting for an hour! We kindly declined, and asked that they sit us all together. Let me mind you this was the second request. So ten minutes later they came out and said they were ready. Believe us, we were looking for something to downgrade from 5 stars, but no such luck! This place is off the chain awesome! My wife and I were shaking our heads in disbelief at how delicious every-thing was. I ordered smoked chicken (best in my life-succulent) and the wife ordered fried chicken (tast-y). The green beans was our favorite side, but, really, the corn, creamy mashed potatoes with perfect white gravy (not spicy-yes), homemade buttermilk biscuits and light salad was all perfect. Our waitress was excellent, even offering to fill our Yedis with sweet tea when leaving. There was no wait tonight, a Friday night, and everything came to the table right on time. Honestly, it's an ungodly amount of food and you feel a little guilty, but no so guilty that you won't make this gem of place a regular stop off on the way from OK to Ft. Worth. If you want some really good throw down home cooking, this is THE place. We happened upon this place on a trip between Dallas and Oklahoma City. It's all about chicken. You can either get fried chicken, smoked chicken, chicken fingers, chicken fried steak or fried catfish. With your entrée comes and assortment of mouthwatering "stand up and slap your mama" kind of sides. There were mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade cream corn, flat green beans cooked in bacon drippings along with homemade biscuits. On the table, was a container of black strap molasses and another container of honey. It was truly a down-home gastronomic experience. If you are on I 35 and pass by the little town of Sanger, Texas...this is definitely worth the stop. read more
