After a day of thrifting we were hungry & thirsty. Great HH 2-7 let the #Tiki triathlon continue, dine,drink,shop, tiki hubby and I shared catfish shrimp okra & a side salad. 2 catfish filets in a crispy cornmeal coating and 4 large butterflied shrimp in a crisp very light coating. Not one bad bite and we still took home leftovers, even with sharing. And enjoyed a$6.00 Old Fashioned. Food was good hot and fresh. I took my bestie here for her bday at her request. The food was definitely not good. My bestie didn't eat anything. She had the catfish and shrimp platter. She said her fish tastes like it was fried in old grease. Her shrimp were soggy, half of mine were done the other half had raw batter on them. I didn't complain. My friend did and they could clearly see she didn't eat anything on her plate. They said nothing. Must be used to the negative feedback. Never again!! read more

I stopped in after driving past this location for years. I chose to sit at the bar, expecting better service, but I was completely mistaken. The place has an old-style interior, and even though the 6 PM crowd was small, the bar server was nowhere to be found. A staff member handling phone orders ended up taking my order. When my food finally came out, it was handed to me in a takeout bag--and that's when I was told that the area I was seated in was for takeout only. It would've been helpful to know that before they let me order. I was then directed to the other bar area, where I received zero service until I was already finishing my meal. Only then did someone ask how everything was. The food itself was good, but having to eat it out of a Styrofoam box instead of a plate really took away from the experience. No salt, no pepper, no butter--no service at all. This visit was such a disappointment that I won't be returning. If you plan to sit at the bar, make sure you're seated in the correct area, because no one here will tell you. We have tried this place on 3 separate occasions and the last time was confirmation that their food was lacking in flavor and freshness. Our last food bill was $70 and it was expensive for 2 people. I ask my wife if she wants to go to Prairie House and she just laughs. We are pretty good cooks at home and if the food we pay someone to cook for us is not as good or better than we can cook we don't go back, that goes for this place! read more

Kids burger was hard as a rock. We've driven by this place and always see cars loaded in the parking lot in the weekend but during the week it was almost empty. We won't be back. read more

Had one of the best tasting pork chop dinners of my life from this location. And it was a to-go order which took me quite some time to get home and eat due to traffic, so I can't imagine how good it would have been eating it right away. We came for a nice lunch. The steaks were tiny but cooked well. The sides were all COLD! I asked the manager if the food was shipped in frozen and reheated for serving. Even the mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese were cold cold. Not like they sat a min. Cold through and through. Don't recommend at all. EDIT TO ADD The manager was rude and condescending. I will admit I was upset after first asking for fries that were not cold and then finding both "made from scratch" potatoes and Mac & cheese cold. I did not use any foul language at all. I only raised my voice when I was accused of mis treating the server which I never did. I asked for warm fries then the manager. Nothing more. When accused of the mistreatment I clearly stated to bring him over and ask him cause I never said anything to him at all. She was dismissive and rude and got the same behavior in return. read more

This is a very well decorated rustic bbq place. The brisket was almost dry but the smoke flavor was great! Potato salad very creamy and delicious. Coleslaw was nice and cold and just amount of flavoring. The beans were great! Finished with the peach cobbler. It was room temperature served with cold ice cream so you didn't get the full effect of the cobbler. Super sweet. Will have to come back and try the breakfast. read more

We wanted something that is local to the area and prairie house was recommended. The restaurant is typical rustic dining with older tools and signs on the walls. Outside has a selection of old tractors and farm equipment. We had grilled pork chops with cowboy beans and cole slaw and cowboy quesadiilla. Our drinks were a classic margaritas and a Texas Bluebonnet. We enjoyed everything. The margaritas were very well made. We had peach cobbler for dessert. The service was great. We eat here once every week. The food is GOOD but I wouldn't say outstanding. The value for the $ is on point though. Haven't had anything I wouldn't order again. All of the servers are amazing. The ambiance can be hit or miss in my opinion. There are three sections to the establishment. The "door" room on the West, the middle section and the saloon on the East. This is a great restaurant with a very professional, enthusiastic staff and excellent food. It was not a terribly busy night but the acoustics were great for conversation which we appreciated. I joined 3 friends for dinner this evening. All of them eat standard American food. I am a very strict plant eater. It is important to note I am the one who selected this restaurant. If there had not been some good choices for plant eaters, none of us would have been there. We all found exactly what we wanted on the menu and found it delicious. I am excited to discover this restaurant that accommodates everyone. Perhaps one of these days they will add the baked potatoes to their lunch menu and we will visit more often. read more

I think the server was new and still learning. Everyone needs and deserves an opportunity to learn. She was very nice. Once the dinners arrived, my steak was severally burnt. I took two bites, and was done. Every bite tasted like ash smells. I like my steaks medium, pink center but not bloody. I could not eat the steak. I have been going to Prairie House for many years. However it has been a while since my last visit. I was very disappointed. The service was unfriendly and slow. We ordered fried mushrooms and burn ends for starters. The mushrooms were slightly warm and dripping with oil. The burnt ends were cold and under cooked. We asked for them to be cooked more and they brought back a new order of cold under cooked meat. I ordered a medium rare steak, it came out medium and was so salty i could not eat it. My son, his first time there, ordered a BBQ platter. All of the meat was cold, the sweet potato waffel fries cold and limp. I don't know what happened to the place. For years it was always great food and service. I wondered why they weren't busy at noon on Father's Day, Now I Know. Will not be going back. read more

I've been coming here since I was a child. It's still a staple with my parents, even now with me in my 30s. The fire kissed steaks are delicious, but the catfish is the stand-by for us, whether fried or grilled. I miss the days of the caddy for the baked potato toppings, but you can't have it all! From our previous experiences in the past six months, the service was great, we ordered the ribeye which came out perfect the sides were not bad and the Sam and dinner was decent. Went on Wednesdays, where the wine bottles were priced. We chose this place because it's very convenient and so glad that the food was good. We will be back. Texas standards in an amusing atmosphere. Our server was very polite and efficient. Drink glasses are large, limiting the need for refills. Burger was average in flavor, brisket was above average, and the spinach salad was fresh and huge. Other portions were average.
