We came for a nice lunch. The steaks were tiny but cooked well. The sides were all COLD! I asked the manager if the food was shipped in frozen and reheated for serving. Even the mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese were cold cold. Not like they sat a min. Cold through and through. Don't recommend at all. EDIT TO ADD The manager was rude and condescending. I will admit I was upset after first asking for fries that were not cold and then finding both "made from scratch" potatoes and Mac & cheese cold. I did not use any foul language at all. I only raised my voice when I was accused of mis treating the server which I never did. I asked for warm fries then the manager. Nothing more. When accused of the mistreatment I clearly stated to bring him over and ask him cause I never said anything to him at all. She was dismissive and rude and got the same behavior in return. read more

I stopped in after driving past this location for years. I chose to sit at the bar, expecting better service, but I was completely mistaken. The place has an old-style interior, and even though the 6 PM crowd was small, the bar server was nowhere to be found. A staff member handling phone orders ended up taking my order. When my food finally came out, it was handed to me in a takeout bag--and that's when I was told that the area I was seated in was for takeout only. It would've been helpful to know that before they let me order. I was then directed to the other bar area, where I received zero service until I was already finishing my meal. Only then did someone ask how everything was. The food itself was good, but having to eat it out of a Styrofoam box instead of a plate really took away from the experience. No salt, no pepper, no butter--no service at all. This visit was such a disappointment that I won't be returning. If you plan to sit at the bar, make sure you're seated in the correct area, because no one here will tell you. After a day of thrifting we were hungry & thirsty. Great HH 2-7 let the #Tiki triathlon continue, dine,drink,shop, tiki hubby and I shared catfish shrimp okra & a side salad. 2 catfish filets in a crispy cornmeal coating and 4 large butterflied shrimp in a crisp very light coating. Not one bad bite and we still took home leftovers, even with sharing. And enjoyed a$6.00 Old Fashioned. Food was good hot and fresh. I've been going here for 26 years, tonight we went to have a final meal with my parents that I only see once a year and my veteran nephew on Memorial Day. My Dad ordered coffee, they didn't have coffee. We then ordered a fried mushrooms, they were out of those. My nephew ordered a steak, medium rare, it came well done. I ordered fries as my side, my food was brought out with no side and I was told they were out of fries, so I ordered sweet potato fries, about 10 minutes later I was told they were out of those as well. The water came and was supposed the manager didn't come by my table yet. Someone quickly walked past our table earlier carrying something and asked if we were good, my nephew being kind said yes. When I asked to speaks to the manager and told her all that was going on she told me, and I quote "I came by earlier and you said everything was fine so what's the problem. You can just order any of the sides that we do have", also something to the effect of "it's a holiday so it's more difficult for us". There was no mention of sorry we will make it right, just pure defensiveness. I told her if she's ok with customer having that kind of experience than fine. Again, no apology, nothing but making us feel like we were somehow wrong for bringing this up. Our waiter was great, very apologetic, we knew he was in a difficult spot with no support from his manager. This is a very well decorated rustic bbq place. The brisket was almost dry but the smoke flavor was great! Potato salad very creamy and delicious. Coleslaw was nice and cold and just amount of flavoring. The beans were great! Finished with the peach cobbler. It was room temperature served with cold ice cream so you didn't get the full effect of the cobbler. Super sweet. Will have to come back and try the breakfast. read more

We wanted something that is local to the area and prairie house was recommended. The restaurant is typical rustic dining with older tools and signs on the walls. Outside has a selection of old tractors and farm equipment. We had grilled pork chops with cowboy beans and cole slaw and cowboy quesadiilla. Our drinks were a classic margaritas and a Texas Bluebonnet. We enjoyed everything. The margaritas were very well made. We had peach cobbler for dessert. The service was great. This is a great restaurant with a very professional, enthusiastic staff and excellent food. It was not a terribly busy night but the acoustics were great for conversation which we appreciated. I joined 3 friends for dinner this evening. All of them eat standard American food. I am a very strict plant eater. It is important to note I am the one who selected this restaurant. If there had not been some good choices for plant eaters, none of us would have been there. We all found exactly what we wanted on the menu and found it delicious. I have been going to Prairie House for many years. However it has been a while since my last visit. I was very disappointed. The service was unfriendly and slow. We ordered fried mushrooms and burn ends for starters. The mushrooms were slightly warm and dripping with oil. The burnt ends were cold and under cooked. We asked for them to be cooked more and they brought back a new order of cold under cooked meat. I ordered a medium rare steak, it came out medium and was so salty i could not eat it. My son, his first time there, ordered a BBQ platter. All of the meat was cold, the sweet potato waffel fries cold and limp. I don't know what happened to the place. The fire kissed steaks are delicious, but the catfish is the stand-by for us, whether fried or grilled. I miss the days of the caddy for the baked potato toppings, but you can't have it all! We eat here once every week. The food is GOOD but I wouldn't say outstanding. The value for the $ is on point though. Haven't had anything I wouldn't order again. All of the servers are amazing. The ambiance can be hit or miss in my opinion. There are three sections to the establishment. The "door" room on the West, the middle section and the saloon on the East. Ask to sit in the saloon or the middle section. We aren't fans of the door room. If you haven't been, you must give it a try. read more

Texas standards in an amusing atmosphere. Our server was very polite and efficient. Drink glasses are large, limiting the need for refills. Burger was average in flavor, brisket was above average, and the spinach salad was fresh and huge. Other portions were average. This review is about the customer experience, not the food. I didn't eat anything. That's the issue. (Visited 7/26/2025) We drove 30 minutes to try Prairie House, a place I've heard praised for years. Everyone I know who's been here said it was great. Not our experience. The parking lot was packed. We checked in with the hostess and gave our number. I asked if they'd text, she said no, they'd call, and it would come from an Illinois number because she was using her personal cell. That alone felt sketchy. No buzzers? No texting system? Just a hostess with a personal phone and a Sharpie? She quoted a 45-minute wait. Fair enough. At around 35 minutes, we walked back in. A different hostess said they'd already called me "a long time ago" and that "some guy" answered. Except: my phone never rang. And no one else had it. I asked if we could be seated. She led us to a table, not the booth I'd asked for when we checked in. There were two empty booths in sight. Nope. Apparently not for us. Still trying to salvage the evening, we sat down. A waitress walked by and said she'd be right back. Then another one showed up and let us know, with serious attitude, that we could order drinks but wouldn't get food for at least 45 minutes because the kitchen was slammed. She emphasized they wouldn't be "jumping orders," as if I'd asked for special treatment (I hadn't). So, we left. On the way out, I asked the hostess what number they'd called. They'd written it down wrong. Last digit was off. No apology. No accountability. Just blank stares. So, here's what we got: A hostess using her personal phone to manage waitlists (and getting the number wrong) A 35-minute wait that didn't need to happen A booth request ignored, even with empty booths visible A waitress who treated us like a problem before we even said a word No food, no service, no reason to come back I really wanted to like this place. We were excited to finally try it. But if this is how they treat customers, I can't imagine how they handle actual problems. Maybe the food's good. Wouldn't know. If I ever go back and the food blows me away, I'll update. But based on tonight? Hard pass. read more

It is located in the crossroads intersection, diagonal from Walmart off of 380. I stopped in for lunch today, I'm meeting I was headed to was canceled so I stopped for an early lunch. I got there around 11:00, so I was one of the first people to be seated. I ordered tea and the Tuesday special which was a barbecue plate served with brisket, chicken breast and your choice of sides. I went with the beans, potato salad. They also brought out a cornbread roll. I wasn't wild about that, it was kind of dry. The meat was tender and had a great smoky flavor, was served with a nice barbecue sauce. The beans had a fabulous kick, potato salad had a creamy mustard base, potatoes were the right consistency of tenderness, nice flavor. They decor here is definitely rustic. Even though my daughter loves the food here she does not love visiting because the taxidermy animals bothers her. There are several rooms in the sprawling location. There is a bar set up in two of them, think saloon style. There is a large stuffed bear in the lobby and all kinds of furry guys throughout. They had a John Wayne, Western vibe in my booth today. There are all kinds of old pioneer regalia on shelves around as well. On my way out, I noticed a new fence with a enclosed backyard patio area. They are upgrading their outdoor entertainment area next to the stage, I will definitely have to be back to check out music in the future! Server was friendly and had good follow-up. My family gets together once a month for lunch or dinner. In August we met at Prairie House Restaurant. The place is large and accommodated our family of 8 without feeling cramped in as in many restaurants. The food was good American fare, and everyone enjoyed what they got. I got the chicken fried steak which was quite large with two sides. Our waiter was very attentive without making us feel like we needed to hurry up. Great place for good family meals. read more

The pork chop and the prime rib were great! I think they only offer the prime rib on the weekends though but it's worth it! The restaurant is large and they have an outdoor area for music. The service has always been good even during busy times! I highly recommend! read more
