I ordered a pulled pork sandwich because I'm a sucker for those things, so I'm very judgmental of whatever pulled pork sandwich I order. It wasn't dry, it was pretty juicy. There was no sauce on it, but I dined in so they had two different sauces available on the table, hot and mild. I picked the mild since I'm not into spicy food, and the mild sauce was absolutely delicious. I was pretty pleased with the sandwich. I think next time, I'll go without sides. I ordered coleslaw & mac and cheese as sides. The coleslaw was okay, but really watery. Then the mac and cheese was seriously lacking flavor, enough where I had to put salt on it & I still didn't think it was enough. I'll definitely be coming back, only for the BBQ though. read more

Not only the best BBQ in Plainfield, but some of the best in the Country and I have tried many BBQ along my travels. People complain about the cost of BBQ. I feel those same people lack the understanding of how costly meat is, the cost of equipment required to make good BBQ and finally, the fact that it took 12+ hours to make your sandwich. I will admit that some visits are better than others. The ribs are good, not great. The brisket is often great and the pulled pork is good too. What a pleasant surprise! We were in the area visiting a relative and boy did we luck out! After what turned out to be a long week and day altogether, we just wanted a solid meal to enjoy and get the weekend started. We narrowed down the options to Thai and BBQ. It had been a while since we last had BBQ so comfort food was the winner last weekend. We both had a pulled pork sandwich and were quite satisfied with our visit and choice. The pork wasn't dry and great in flavor; not salty or overwhelmed with seasoning nor was it bland. I enjoyed both the mild and hot sauces as each one was distinct and really added a lot to our sandwiches. Since there were quite a few sides for us to choose from, we had to order several between us both to give them a try. We went with the mac & cheese, fries, cucumber slices, and the mashed potatoes. I was reeeeeally impressed by their fries as they were crispy, not too salty and plentiful. From one place to another, fries usually aren't that memorable but theirs are definitely a stand out. The mac and cheese was a little on the soupy side pretty I'd say still pretty solid. We loved the cucumbers! For such a simple side, the lime, chili powder, and vinegar proved to be incredibly refreshing and tasty. More please! I didn't try the mashed potatoes but my fiancé did and I think her only critique is that they were more on the dry side, but that could be because we came in when it was late and close to closing time, aka they could have been sitting for a while. I think a few more sauce options would be a great addition for customers who enjoy sweeter or spicier BBQ. It was a little chilly inside so we opted to eat outside. Very good BBQ. Love treating myself here whenever I am in the area. Now here's the downside. Employees have the personality of a milk bottle. The unsweetened iced tea is always empty and I have noticed that they do not place the covers on top of the dispensers when finished brewing. So that's kinda gross, especially for the folks that get to drink the bottom of the pot stuff. Food is exceptional though, which is why I will keep visiting. read more

Not very happy with customer service or the food. We ordered and did DoorDash but couldn't apply the healthcare worker discount. When we called they said we have no idea what you're talking about... but you can see on their Facebook advertising the discount. When we pointed it out they said oh and did nothing about it. Weren't helpful at all. Then we got our food and everything was cold. The ribs were dry and the size of the sides were so small. For the amount of money we spent I was expecting better. I've always heard good things about this place and was excited to try it, it was our first time ordering from here. Left a really bad first impression..probably won't be back. read more

This place has delicious BBQ. We've tried a ton of the items on the menu and it doesn't disappoint. Our favorite is the pulled chicken and the ribs. The beans and Mac and cheese are really good too. Say it isn't so. What happened to you BBB? You were my favorite bbq place by far. You have fallen onto hard times! I went there 1/20/21 @11am. The pulled pork was sopping wet. It tasted awful! No Smokey flavor just nasty. The fries were under cooked! They kept trying to jip me on the bbq sauce. I like a lot. I didn't get enough! Now trying to nickel & dime you for pickles which were complimentary before. Shame on you BBB! I'll stick to Firewater BBQ for my BBQ fix! read more

This place has absolutely amazing pulled pork & beef brisket.... but their greens beans are not good, at all. They taste like crap from a can. The beans are pretty watery so I wouldn't recommend those either. The fries are great tho & their hot bbq sauce is amazing. I'm very rarely out in that area but I always stop there for lunch if I get the chance. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone I know in the area but I would not suggest it for special occasions... It's super small inside and almost everything is either plastic or styrofoam. Other than that, the prices are right on for the quality & amount of food you receive. Fresh cut French fries are great. Two types of sauce but the ribs are rubbed with seasoning that doesn't need any assistance from sauces. Baby Back Blues is definitely my favorite restaurant in Plainfield. There isn't much to write home about when it comes to Plainfield, but if you find yourself here for one reason or another, Baby Back Blues better be a stop for you. My "small" brisket sandwich was actually quite enormous (how big could the large be then?) and outstanding, especially with BBB's hot BBQ sauce. The hot BBQ sauce isn't very hot at all, but if you're a real wuss, then stick with the mild. The macaroni & cheese was so creamy and cheesy, it's much better than any I've had at other BBQ or fried chicken joints. I felt like a piggy, but I was so happy I ordered the "large" side versus small. When it comes to macaroni & cheese, I go big or go home, because I can devour that stuff! My dad was eating some ribs, and when he gets excited about food, he starts doing this silly head-nod while proclaiming how good the food is. As soon as he started bobbing around I KNEW the ribs were well worth the price. They were "fall off the bone" good, and a meaty portion for a half slab. My only dislike was the fries. They had no seasoning and were kind of cold. We decided to do take-out, so that could have been part of the problem. You can dine-in, there are about 8 tables. They were very busy for a Tuesday night. When it comes to the cole slaw, my husband said he's "had better," and by appearances alone it looked like it needed a little improvement. Stick with the macaroni & cheese or corn on the cob instead. Four of us had very large portion dinners for a little more than $50. They also provided generous cups of both mild and hot BBQ sauce for us to-go. The meat comes unsauced so you will need it, but I like being able to add as much or as little sauce as I want. read more

I'm not sure what the big deal about this place is. Yes, it was featured on the Food Network. Yes, they have decent barbecue. Not the best, but decent. Yet, people come from miles around to rave about it. As if God itself came down and blessed this barbecue. No, it's not that good. I say this after trying the place twice. The first time, I had the rib tips. They have a great flavor, well smoked, with a hint of sweet. Sadly, they were a bit overcooked and rather crispy. The coleslaw I had as a side was very white. No carrots, just chopped cabbage in a creamy sauce. Very industrial looking. The second time around, I had a slab of ribs. A much better choice than the rib tips. Same flavor, but cooked perfectly. But this time, the coleslaw was just plain disgusting. I don't know what happened, but it was so sugary sweet, I couldn't stand it! Will I go here again? Yeah, if someone from work is picking it up, but I wouldn't make a special trip. Their prices are pretty reasonable, though, and they have different specials each day of the week. read more

So, I'm from Memphis which is arguably one of the Mecca's of BBQ, and I have been dying for someone that can cook some good BBQ. My wife found this place and was so excited for me to try it. Her excitement built my excitement and I have to say walking into the building; it sure looked the part. I thought I'd better to a complete sampling so I got a pulled pork sandwich and a slab of ribs. That is were my excitement ended. Just like other places in the North, they cook the hell out of their meat. It like eating dry almost jerky. The ribs looked like they came off a wild hog because there was almost no meat on them. The only reason I gave them one extra star is because they do have a pretty good BBQ sauce. It's a little spicy for North folks, so beware. To the owners of Baby Back Blues... I don't know if you are boiling them first (a HUGE no no) or if you are just cooking them too long or not basting them as you go, but please work on the moisture content of your ribs. I'll check back from time to time in hopes that they will fix this issue. read more

I walked in and asked how much brisket I would need for four adults and then how much chicken for for adults. They asked the right question... is it the same four adults and yes it was. At any rate I ordered the brisket and chicken, three sides (cucumber salad, pinto beans with brisket and green beans). The staff was friendly and helpful, prompt and thorough in preparing my order. All the way home I called my family and let them know that if it tastes as good as it smells in the car then we were in for a treat. I'm thrilled to say that the meal did indeed taste as good as it smelled. The brisket seemed to be the biggest hit as everyone went back for more. The chicken received rave reviews with comments about how juicy it was, something which isn't easy to achieve when smoking chicken. By the way, three out of four preferred the spicy BBQ sauce while one preferred mild, be sure to get both if you aren't sure which your group will want. My ride recommended we stop at Blues to pick up some pork to bring with and we just happened to have a sammich while there. I had the "small" pork sammich with green beans and mac & cheese, you know, a light lunch. The sandwich was anything but small and most definitely frickin' delicious. The pork had that thick, smoke taste and was tender like Elvis. The beans were decent, mac & cheese was ok but seems like it came from a box. Honestly, if the sides were better here it'd be an easy 5-stars. But I'll have to go back and try the other choices. They also have unlimited pickles, in fact I haven't left Blues yet because I haven't stopped eating them. Both the pulled pork and brisket were very good. Moist, smoky and tender, served on good plain white buns. Could have used a bit more salt, but that was easily remedied. Both mild and hot sauces were provided at the table. I tried the mild - tangy, vinegary, not too sweet. Coleslaw was milky, runny and too sweet. At first bite it was ok, but then got weirder with more. There was some sort of fruity-sweet aftertaste, almost like there was marshmallow creme in the dressing. I'd skip this next time. Pinto beans were amazing, closer to frijoles charros, made with chile seasoning, not sweet, and with lumps of skin-on potatoes, all in a savory broth. They are a definite repeat order. I liked this place!!! I was a little skeptic about this place at first not because of the location but because of the variety of meats on the menu. I didn't see any hot links or burnt ends. That aside, the meats that they do have are really good. I had the rib tips and my buddy had the brisket sandwich. The brisket was okay; but I think it was because of the cut. It was from the flat and not the point. The rib tips were good and were great without any sauce. The true hero here are the sides. The sides are a make or break to me. A BBQ that takes the time to make there sides from scratch everyday is the real deal!! I will be a customer for life now. There is no better place in Chicagoland to get BBQ. In fact, I was in Austin, TX recently and decided I liked Baby Back better than the highly-rated local place down there. A co-worker brought me here for lunch one day several years ago, and after one bite I was smitten. You walk in and inhale, and the sweet smell of wood smoke fills your lungs. Your stomach starts to growl audibly as you gaze up at the menu, trying to decide how you'll take your Smokin' Deal today. Skip the bun - don't let those empty carbs get in between you and the meat and tasty side dishes. Before you know it, a plate of meaty deliciousness is in front of you. Don't be offended by styrofoam plates and plastic utensils - it doesn't matter - just take a bite. Good, right? Now pour on a bit of the BBQ sauce (hot, please) and take another bite. Take a bite of your green beans and then another bite of meat. Repeat. Then leave, go back to work, let your co-workers smell that delicious BBQ smoke that you brought back with you and watch them fill with envy that they were not invited to dine with you. You will not find better brisket - this is as it should be. Juicy, smoky, tender, beefy. The chicken is also out of this world. I'm sure the pulled pork and ribs are great too but I can rarely get past the beef to the chicken, let alone throw another animal into the mix. Now that I live two and a half hours from Baby Back, I have to make the most of every opportunity to eat there. I order brisket (lean) with green beans and pinto beans. And just when I've cleaned my plate, I go back up and order more to go. Last time I brought home brisket, chicken, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, pinto beans, and green beans. I would recommend reheating your meat in a skillet instead of the microwave - put it in a dry pan with a lid on it for a few minutes, let it steam a little. Then uncover, pour on the BBQ sauce, stir to coat everything in it, and move it around until it's heated through. The sauce caramelizes a bit, some of the edges of the meat will char a little. I did this with the chicken and wrapped it in warm corn tortillas - oh my stars, this was heavenly. Some tips: don't let the word 'small' in Small Smokin' Deal fool you - it's a hugely generous plate of food. If you're ordering fries, get them extra crispy. And seriously, if you're going to Baby Back for lunch, do not eat a huge breakfast. Stretchy pants aren't a bad idea either. read more

I have heard the radio ads for years, and one random day coming back from the city in the early hours I decided to patronize this much publicized BBQ establishment. I ordered up the BBQ pulled pork with fries & coleslaw. The Pork was awesome the fries excellent and in very generous portions, the coleslaw however was nothing to write home about. The staff was friendly and cool the restaurant was clean over all, however I did spy a few tables that needed to be wiped down which did irritate me a little bit. Being that this place is hidden all the ay in the corner of a strip mall, it's easy to miss unless you know where to look. And do not let the dingy exterior appearance of the strip mall deter you... the food here is amazing! Rich, smoky flavor, you can tell that these guys know what they are doing.
