Popped into this landmark restaurant, wanting something that wasn't a "big burger" place or a fad restaraunt. So happy I did. I placed my order and had a GREAT conversation with the man who took my order. They have deals, they make their own in house soups, daily specials, they're open for breakfast. They make their hotdogs with the cucumber on in like how Portillos use to do. Big bag of crispy fries. Come into Nabbys and say hi to A.J. Something has changed with Nabby's over the last few months. They've cut the portion of beef on an Italian beef in about a 1/3rd. Bread has been dry/over firm. If it happened once, I could understand, but I've been going there for 25 years now. I ordered on Wednesday and the same result. I literally pulled all the meat to one half to show my point. I also ordered the soup listed as cream of chicken with rice on their written board and came home to a cheese and broccoli. When I called, the young lady said they didn't change the sign and that portion control was set by the managers but didn't offer to refund or anything. Not good customer service like that. Hope they go back to the way they've been all these years or I won't be eating there. read more

Nabby's food is consistently top-flight. My favs are the meatball sandwich and chicken wraps. Service is very personable, and orders are gladly customized. In particular, there is a gentleman who works the counter named RON, he deserves a raise, and recognition for his excellent customer service and general regard for his teammates! He makes sure to have coffee available on request, and takes time to get the details of an order correct. He keeps a watchful eye on cleanliness of the tables, and checks in with customers regarding any needs which might arise during the meal. So my search for the best hot dog in Will County continues... it's not here, but it's still a good dog. Let's start with the good stuff. Vienna beef? Check. Sport peppers? Check. Tomato, pickle spear and cucumber? Check check check. Onions and mustard? Of course! Now, the bun wasn't poppy seed, but it was nice and fresh. And they missed the celery salt, but I don't think it affected the flavor of the dog. They went a little heavy on the sport peppers, but I just picked off the ones I didn't need. We contracted with Nabby's to cater an 80th birthday party . There was a variety of ages and backgrounds attending. Paul arrived exactly on time and set up everything and explained it to me. The food was delicious!!! Several people commented on different foods(green beans, fruit salad, Italian beef and chicken , both baked and fried) and how delicious they were. It was a pleasant experience planning the menu and how much . Paul was very informative and worked with me to get most for my money. It was a great experience from beginning to end. I love me some Nabby's , I used to work at the nursing home behind it for about ten years so I became addicted to thier fried chicken sandwiches. Its one of thise places that has pretty much anything your little heart desires Salads, Italian Beef, Burgers, Fried Shrimp, Poorboys, Ribs, Wings, Pizza, Perch, Soup, Chili, Sub Sandwiches, Meatball Sandwiches, Sausage sandwiches, Hotdog's, Full Perch, Rib, Fish Dinner, Breakfast Sandwiches, you name it they have it! And its all delicious. I wish there were more places like this one stop shop's near me this one is a bit of haul for me now, but I do go when I get the chance. Nabby's is fine with me. From the outside it doesn't look like anything special but I've found the interior to be neat and clean. I guess I've been fortunate, I've never been stuck with a dirty table or had to ask an employee to clean off a spot for me. For me, Nabby's is a quick and easy breakfast spot that won't cost you twice as much as it should. Too many dedicated breakfast spots have prices that are simply out of line. I think at times that employees could stand to be a bit friendlier. Reviewers often seem to complain for no real reason other than to complain. Don't like it? Don't go there, or go back and leave your attitude at home. It is a solid three star place. Give Nabby's a chance. read more

For twenty-six years, Nabby's has occupied this tight corner of Plainfield, and it is showing no signs of going anywhere. Nabby's serves your typical assortment of diner food: Burgers, hot dogs and the like. The staff is friendly and appreciates your business. For the type of restaurant it is I'd have to say the quality of the food is on the average side: nothing to cheer about but certainly nothing to scare business away either. The portions are good, giving me a sense of value. As far as the location goes, it is fortunate Nabby's is an established venue, as the traffic along Rt. 59 is horrible in the afternoon, making entry an egress difficult. That, combined with the small size of the parking lot, can be a challenge if you wanted to bring a large group. The food isn't bad depending on what you order but this is definitely a Resturant that is okay with false advertising. The Resturant continually advertises that they deliver even on this app and yet when you order for delivery they will wait until closing time to cancel your order. Or if ordering over the phone they will tell you that they cannot do deliveries at this time but yet "this time" has lasted years on end. I would've imagined the Resturant would start to look up since it's under new management but clearly not. They did a full 360 and decided to get back on their bullshit. HMM UPDATE... Food has gone to shit too. I guess it was only a matter of time. The Owner really can't keep a constant staff or a good menu. I've driven by here for 10 years and the exterior kept me from stopping in. After reading the mixed reviews we decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised to find the inside is super clean, and more updated than the outside. The menu features several options from typical "diner" food to pizza and catering. I had an Olive Burger (a burger with green olives) it was decent and the ingredients fresh. The service was fast and friendly with reasonable prices. Overall a positive experience. read more

I recently heard this place refered to as Nab and thought that was strange. Then I drove by at night and realized half their sign is out. So whether Nab or Nabby's (day light hours only) you can get your grub on for cheap. The staff is friendly and always waiting to take your order. Despite being a fast food place they never screw your order up. The food is better than McD's but your favorite Pub Burger it is not. Crinkle cut fries are my least favorite fry option and that's what they serve up. Upside is a plethora of choices like seriously probably more than 60. The downside is quality. The food here is not good. If you're looking for a gyro/beef/hot dog place, you're much better off going north on Route 59 to Doggie Diner or south to Portillo's. The grilled chicken sandwich was awful. The chicken was bland, dry and chewy, and it didn't appear "grilled" at all. I asked for a side of honey mustard to try and make it less dry, but the honey mustard was just as disgusting. It was too tangy and vinegar-y, it tasted more like a salad dressing. My husband had a burger and chili dog, which he said were "okay," but expected the chili dog to have liquid cheese instead of melted cheddar. The mozzarella sticks and fries were fine, but it takes a lot to screw up something you just drop in a fryer. What the hell, Nabby's? Undercooked crust, not enough sauce, and a greasy load of cheese. For the price, just not good enough. The place kind of crawls with high schoolers too, which isn't surprising. Bad Food, Bad Attitude, and Outdated. I moved out to the Plainfield area back in 2003, and within a few weeks, tried Nabbys. I was disappointed. I had a hamburger, and it reminded me of a bad school lunch as a kid. I recently went back, and met a couple buddies for lunch. We chose there because of being centrally located between us. I had a "poor boy". I've had better food from Chef Boyardee. It was beyond awful. A frozen rectangle of "beef" seared on both sides and slapped on a flavorless garlic bread. When I went in, it was dull and dreary inside, empty, and silent. I went up to order, and asked what was the best thing they had, as I often do when going in someplace new. The person behind kinda shrugged their shoulders and said the poor boy was popular. Very little personality, and didnt seem to care what i ordered. I got the food after a couple of minutes which you would expect. While I was sitting there eating my sandwich, I noticed that the restaurant was pretty much empty. This was 12:15 on a weekday. In a location on 59 & near 126, it should be packed from open to close. There was 2 or 3 other people and an older guy wearing a Nabbys shirt that I can only assumed was the owner. No music playing, no real visual appeal at all. We were on there for almost an hour, and he sat there talking the whole time with a buddy. Not once walked the place asking how food was, not checking on staff, not having anyone clean tables or sweep. Floor was a little dirty but not horrible, and a couple of tables had been clearly eaten at and not wiped down. The guy seemed to not have a care in the world. If he was an active owner, asking for feedback, having things cleaned, and actually caring about the product that his establishment product puts out, they wouldn't be providing food of such low quality. Between that, and looking like it hasn't had any renovations since its opened is mostly why they are providing such bad food and service. That location has unbelievable potential. If he was smart, he would revamp that place with a 50's diner vibe, neon, and oldies playing inside and out. I don't mind going to a hole in the wall when the food is good, but this is a dive with food that on its best day would barely make mediocre. Been going to Nabby's since 1990. The food has always been great until lately. Order a 10 Italian beef the bun about 2.5-3 high. When receiving my beef sandwich I noticed something different. They out about four slices of beef on a 10 inch bun. The beef only was about 1/16" high and covered about 6 inches of the bun. 4 inches of bun, where is the beef Nabby's? Told the guy/kid behind the counter that usually the sandwich is full of beef. He replied back that they have to cut back on the amount of beef being used. Lets get this straight you pay for a 10 inch beef sandwich and get 6 inches worth of beef and 4 inches of bun. Nabby's is no longer the same as they used to be IMO read more

I've lived here in Plainfield for a year and always drive right past Nabby's. I've never stopped because it seemed an odd combo of a breakfast place, a pizza place and a burger joint. Usually when one tries to be all things to all people it turns out to be an epic fail. Boy was I wrong. Hot dogs? Vienna beef. Delicious. Sausage? Delicious. Italian Beef? Not as good as Al's Beef but still yummy. Pizza? Delicious. The atmosphere inside isn't one that I would dine-in for. It's too burger-standish for me but there are plenty of tables for those who don't mind that. Add in arcade games and a candy crane machine and its a great place for people with young kids. I've been going here since I can remember playing Tee Ball off of Lockport St. Solid full menu ranging from burgers, beef, pizza, dogs, and everything in between. Hell, they even have subs and wraps. This is my go-to place whenever I'm craving something unhealthily delicious in Plainfield. It's right by our house, so the location is nice as well. The decor is somewhat nostalgic, and I always have fun playing on the arcade machines. I enjoy watching Jeopardy or the History channel while I wait. I always get the pizza burger and the chili cheese fries. They never disappoint. It's not my absolute favorite food in the world, but it's pretty awesome. read more

First time here but got to say that the Italian Beef sandwich with sweet peppers ROCKED! When I got to the counter I asked what menu itemwas the favorite? Without any hesitation two guy behind the counter almost shouted Italian Beef. Yep, they were right that it was finger lickn' good. Very good service, fresh food and reasonably priced. I have been told that Nabby's is a community gathering spot & I now understand why. Good folks, great reputation (over 25 years with same owner) & darn good Italian Beef. Worst. Restaurant. Ever. Beware. All the food is frozen and pre-made. We had a bacon cheeseburger, tamale, nachos with meat, hotdogs, and a Italian beef. EVERYTHING was horrible. The cheeseburger tasted like a school lunch burger. The hotdog was cold and flavorless. The Italian beef tasted like it was freezer burned. The nachos had to have the lowest grade of beef and it had a stale taste like it had been sitting for days. The tamale was literally microwaved in the prepackaged paper and served in the package. Not to mention, they did not use gloves to prepare the food. The decor was gritty and the table cloths felt slimy. read more
