My favorite BBQ place, EVER!!!!! (so far LOL) I've tried many a pulled pork sandwich, even Alice Cooper's in Phoenix, AZ, and this is by far the best! The pulled pork is perfectly tender and smoked, and their BBQ sauce in mild is absolutely one of my ultimate favorites! I cannot rave enough about this! LOL It IS all about the sauce, but this meat is fluckin' the best too! :0P My man loves their ribs, though they are a bit pricey---so they're worth it, but they're a once in awhile thing! I normally get the smokin' deal meal with 1/3 pound pulled pork sandwich with 2 sides and I drink for about $8. The amount of pork is overflowing, so I can't leave it all on the bread, I have to eat some separate. Some people mix it with coleslaw, but I'm not a fan of that---I think that's a southern thing. I believe I forgot to mention they also have my favorite coleslaw and some of my favorite fries---the steak kind with the skin, nice and crispy and great with the BBQ sauce! The coleslaw does not have carrots, and isn't too creamy nor too watery---the flavor is wonderful! The sauce is in bottles for the tables, or in tubs to pump out in plastic cups for to-go orders. You apply your own sauce, and if you're me, that's always EXTRA EXTRA! The place itself is kinda small, but nice Bluesy decor on the walls. The meat can sometimes have darker or "purpley" pieces in it, but that's completely normal and a part of the "smokin process". Ate here for the first time after hearing about it for years. I was especially impressed with the full slab of ribs. The meat was so tender that a gentle bite tore it in shreds. The combo meals comes with two sides, which I recommend the French fries. When you dine-in, you should mix the hot and mild sauce. Dip your fries, ribs, meat, and/or bread in it! The employees were super friendly and attentive to the customers, even though it is not a service restaurant. My only complaint was that the place had many flies roaming around the joint. But on a 95 degree summer night, it would be hard to keep them out, so I can't penalize them on the inevitable. read more

Food is great, 5 star, but service is horrible, from the short guy, with small man simplex, and the big girl at the register, both are very very rude, and I would have to say quite racist, I'm a man of color, never in my 45 years of life have I been treated so badly! Then as I leave, a Caucasian come in and they are great with respect and kindness. For some reason or another the guy went off on me as soon as I entered to store because I parked at a handicap space, little did he know the vehicle was a handicap vehicle, I was driving an 86yr old couple in the car that owned by them, it just so happen to be their favorite resturant. Well I left out very angry, my client were really upset about not having their food, but clearly understood why I left and said, that they would never return, and that they will communicate this to the country club members in the plainfield, joliet and naperville area! Next time he and she will worry more about their bbq, and less about public parking, he should have been a mall security guard instead! We've been eating here for years. Hands down the best barbeque in the area. There have been lots of local BBQ restaurants popping up lately and none of them come close. In my opinion, the two best menu items are the brisket and and the pinto beans. They have a simple, down to earth menu and reasonable prices with absolutely zero pretension. I waited to get help for like close to five minutes even though the guy saw me he ignored me and continued talking with his co worker. I ordered a large pull pork and some hot sausage. For my side I got the beans and Mac and cheese. I didn't enjoy the food the pull pork missing flavor and dry. The hot bbq sauce tasted like cheap bbq with Louisiana hot sauce mix horrible. The Mac and cheese looked very good but lacking salt. The beans I asked the guy if they were bbq beans or how were they and he said it was a chilly based beans but they just regular nasty tasting pinto beans. Then to kill it off there pop machine sodas were all flat they had no co2 gas. So the guy supposedly changed it. I ran the coke for couple seconds they filled my cup and tasted it and still flat so I just stuck to there supposedly sweet tea which barely had sugar. Don't recommend this place at all I don't even know why it has so many stars on its rating. read more

After our trip to Memphis, and it's huge letdown ending at Marlowe's, I had to try this place on my way home from picking up my car at nearby Rod Baker Ford. It had been recommended to me by a friend, and I couldn't see how it would be worse than Marlowe's. Given that it was just me, and not 5 people total, I had to omit some of our standard order, in the interest of not having a huge bill and too much food, but I did splurge on a half rack of ribs and a side of cole slaw. More than I would have bought for myself normally, but I wanted to at least get a halfway decent comparison. The ribs amazingly stayed hot as I drove from the restaurant back to my place, and I tucked in to what are some very respectable ribs. They're pink, although without a ton of smoke flavor, and they have sauce basted on during cooking, which imparts a nice tangy sweetness. I would prefer dry rub, but this is the wrong kind of the country for dry rub, I think. Meat was moist and tender, came right off the bone - very respectable. And this on a Sunday afternoon, when I wouldn't expect traffic to be too high, and I might be getting some warmed over food. But no hint of the old pork flavor from Marlowe's. They came with a side of standard yet good hot (and yes, it actually had some heat) BBQ sauce. Which I did use - again, I didn't feel the need to do this at BBQ Shop or Rib Shack. So these aren't as good. But they are good. The coleslaw side was good - creamy slaw, but a bit tangy, although interestingly without any cabbage or color (just white and green from the cabbage) but also with little or no onion. So this is very decent, maybe a step below that of the Rib Shop. I will be back - I want to try what looked like very good rib tips, and the other sides as well - they had marinated cucumbers which sounded like a nice refreshing change from the ordinary. read more

I really enjoyed it! Is it the best I've ever had? No, but it's damn good, closer than going to Texas (or Smoque, Lillies, Whole Foods Lincoln Pk, others) at least for me... and I know I'll go back. I've read a few reviews here that gigged it for not being clean. Well, I wouldn't do any open surgery in there, but it was certainly clean by restaurant standards. The food was really enjoyable. I just had a brisket sandwich, which was huge. The beef was moist, good char crust to it, moist, and didn't need sauce at all. I also had some mac and cheese and a small pinto bean dish. Were they worthy of stars and big orgasmic reviews? No, but they were really good--and good enough. I don't get people who come on here expecting everthing to be the ne plus ultra of whatever they're writing about--or it's dreck. C'mon. It's food. It's like sex! Never bad, just some better than others :) Wanna go back for some pulled pork and try the ribs. I'll keep you posted. read more

Can't give this place anything less than 5 stars. As good as you can get in a bbq joint. And yes that includes Texas, Louisiana and Carolina. I've had everything they make and it's all outstanding. The help is always friendly and pleasant and that can't be easy- they're working right in front of the smokers. The prices are more than fair. So the staff graciously gave me a small sampling of the ribs, brisket, pork and mac and cheese when I asked if I could try them all. Upon sampling, the pork was watery and lacking in flavor, the mac and cheese was bland, the brisket was pretty good though it needed salt, and the ribs were really really good. So I went back for a brisket sandwich and half rack of ribs. The ribs have an excellent taste with a bit of chewy pieces and a lot of fall of the bone tender meat with residual sweetness from the sauce used in the basting process. I would definitely go back for another helping of the ribs though I would pass on everything else. Finally, the BBQ sauces were kind of a disappointment. They have hot, mild, and the vinegar based Carolina. They improved the flavor of a brisket sandwich (so they aren't bad) but I'd rather go buy a bottle of BBQ sauce at Firewater BBQ. It's hard to find rib tips out here in the burbs. While the tips don't compare to the best of the best, they were still the best I've had out this way. I really wish they offered a tip and hot link combo. The one thing this place nails that so many BBQ fail at is the fries. Fresh cut, though I have to say they were a little under cooked the second time I was there. They do also offer the option of well done fries but I haven't tried them yet. Yeah...well...sorry. My experience was not great. First off...when you walk past the "Chicago's Best" sign on the sidewalk and step up to place your order...Look at the staff. Messy and barely speaking English. Then look at the kitchen. It's right there. The hood, facing the register, was covered in a half inch of greasy buildup. I was gonna turn around and walk out, but decided to give this place a chance. I ordered a brisket sandwich with fries and a drink. The soda fountain was older than me. I took my sandwich to go. Fresh cut fries, Ill give them that. Snuck a few on the car ride home. Hot and delicious. Once I got home...cold and soggy. Not bashing the place on that, just the way it goes with fresh cut fries everywhere. They don't travel well. The sandwich and mac and cheese were both major dissappointments. My first bit of the sandwich was 60% stale bun and 40% fat. The brisket was surprisingly flavorless. I mean like nothing. Such a nice smoke smell outside the restaurant...no smoke flavor in the meat. I don't get it. I love Brisket. This was just meh! I've had better mac and cheese from a blue box. Not in a hurry to return. Famous Dave's does it better...and that ain't saying much. read more

This is the best place in Plainfield that I have ever had "fall off the bone" ribs. The sauces are pretty good too. I mostly come here for the pulled pork sandwich though, it's really is hard to beat (especially if you sauce it up). The mac and cheese is always hot and creamy, and the fresh hand cut fries always hit the spot. I've never had any issues with the service or staff either. Saw this place on Chicago's Best and had to try it. I went for lunch. First off, the location is not great. It's in a little strip mall in a kind of different area. Not somewhere I frequent. I just tried it because of the show. The menu was not very extensive. There were ribs and then a few sandwich options. I ordered a brisket sandwich. The brisket was very smokey and quite good. The sides were average, but good enough. The meat came without any sauce and they had two types of sauce on the table (mild and hot), which were both pretty good. The employees were nice and helpful. The restaurant itself is pretty small and not fancy by any stretch of the imagination. The smells are pretty nice when you walk in, but I noticed that I smelled like a smoke house late into the night. Overall, the food is good and the prices are pretty reasonable. UH!!!! Such good barbeque! I'm here on business and found this place on Yelp and so happy that I did. Gotta get the combo meal with the pulled pork. The sauces are to die for and my friend and I don't know which one is the best, mild or hot. Both of the sauces they have are more savory than syrupy sweet. They also have a Carolina style sauce if thats what you're into. Stay away from the mac and cheese, its sad and tastes just like noodles with melted cheese on it. Really disappointing. Skip the large sandwich - unless you are extremely hungry - a small will be more than satisfying. Smoky delicious pulled bork or brisket piled generously on a soft bun.m add your choice of 3 sauces - mild,, hot, or Carolina and sides and you have a tasty meal. Fries are hand cut with skins on and served crisp and fresh. They taste especially good with.the vinegary Carolina BBQ sauce. My other go-to side is the cucumbers - always fresh and pleasingly tart. After living in Plainfield for almost 13 years, my wife and I finally tried Baby Back Blues for lunch today. While the food here rates 4 1/2 stars, the atmosphere is about 1 star. My wife enjoyed her rib tips. I enjoyed the beef brisket sandwich. Both had a nice hickory smoked flavor...so good that my sandwich didn't really need any BBQ sauce. The fries here are good but the oil needs to be changed a little more often. In regards to the atmosphere...this is a small restaurant with a few tables. It was about 40 degrees outside today and not much warmer inside the restaurant. It became even colder after an employee opened the back door creating a draft from the front of the restaurant to the back. It's hard to keep your food hot with a 40 degree wind blowing through the restaurant. In addition, having watched too many Restaurant Impossible episodes, I noticed the cleanliness of the (open) kitchen and was a little disappointed. I want to give them 4 stars but I can't because their sauce is average and the AC either didn't work or they enjoy tropical climates. And because they don't serve brewed iced tea - just stuff out if a fountain. We had the pulled pork with fries, cole slaw and pinto beans. Fries were ok reminded me of fries from a food truck. But the oil needed to be changed - they had an old flavor despite being right out of the fryer. The pork was smokey and tender. The slaw was good but my husband didn't think it was home made. The pintos had potatoes and onions. It was ok not great. Really kind of flavorless except bean flavor. Their BBQ sauce was merely average. There were 2 flavors, mild or hot. The hot isn't super spicy but the sauce was better when I mixed the two. Adding them to the sandwich only made the it wetter - it didn't add much flavor. We expected better but really it's a below average BBQ joint. I think the high ratings are from those who are comparing to maybe Applebees or something like that. I hope you like barbecue because Baby Back Blues isn't exactly vegetarian-friendly. For the carnivorous impulses in all of us, the little place tucked back into the corner of a small strip mall will offer you meaty delights so gratuitous, you won't even be concerned that you're probably devouring Babe. Oink. Oink. First, let's be explicitly and perfectly clear. The food here is amazing and well worth the almost hour trip from the suburbs to head down to Plainfield to get it. The next best thing I could possibly evangelize in the span of this review is Portillo's ribs, pending any lack of desire to make the trek necessary to get to BBB. But, when in Rome. Before you even walk in, you're greeted by the mouth-watering aromas so succulent that you'd swear it was a Pavlovian response. Thankfully, it tastes as good as it smells and no one is trying to mess with you psychologically to boot, but more on that in a bit. Walking in the door, there is a dazzling amount of food that would give any larger BBQ joint a run for their money -- primarily Weber Grill or Sweet Baby Ray's. It's almost overwhelming. Almost. Just about everything you could order in a visit will be exceptionally good. The brisket, pulled pork and ribs are all worthy of an order, just to try them once. The moment they hit your mouth, it will make you feel like a kid again at the quintessential summer barbecue biting into the first smoky, broiled bit of pork you've ever savored. The sauce, spicy or not, is to die for and you'll be so engrossed in the food, you won't even notice it's dripping down your chin if a fair portion should miss your mouth. Spoiler Alert: I'd recommend not wearing your favorite shirt. For sides, I can't recommend the green beans and the macaroni and cheese enough. Mom rarely made it this well, but if you want to fib and give her a bit more credit in the face of overwhelming piquant cuisine than she deserves, your secret will stay safe with me. Surprisingly, the staff seems more than accustomed to answering slews of questions from people who, mouth agape, are unsure what they want initially.
