Bacari is such a cute place. From the street, it has a small, hole-in-the-wall entrance (at night you might be scared to go in) but once you go through the tunnel, you enter a little hidden gem. It was a beautiful day to sit in the patio for brunch. I enjoyed everything we ordered; the Brussel Sprouts, Egg Pizza, Vegan Pizza (not vegan but it just looked good and we added bacon), and the French Toast. The French toast was my least favorite. Not that it wasn't good, but it was just basic and the portion was really small. I would not waste my calories on this again. The service was a bit slow, but the server was really friendly. I honestly have no idea how this place has a good rating. We ordered, the falafel, the chicken sliders, mushroom pizza, street corn, shawarma tacos. The falafel was super dry - very little flavor. The mushroom pizza was the worst thing I have ever seen. It was some kind of flatbread and they melted some cheese on it that fell off when you pick up a slice, the flavor was bad and the dough is something you would expect at 7/11 The chicken sliders was ok, meat was juicy but no wow effect. The shawarma tacos was ok, we put the street scorn on top of it to get some flavor and make it eatable. I don't think I will come again, only good thing here is the service, top notch. Who made our experience even better. She was very attentive and helpful! I went ahead and tried the braised beef with mash potato's and it did not disappoint, it does come with a chili sauce in which I asked not to add to the dish. The mashed potato's were seasoned so good this dish was not bland at all flavors coming at you from left and right. The ambiance was charming and peaceful, on a noisy street. Our server, Daniella, had amazing energy and enthusiasm. I think we ordered almost everything on the small plates menu. They were mostly excellent but the salmon in pita was dry and needed more salmon in the filling. Would have been better on a plate. The outstanding dish was mujadara, a Middle Eastern rice and lentil pilaf with lemon, mint, probably sumac and other spices including my favorite, fried onions for crunch. Wonderful friendly service and even puppy stew for our dog. I didn't have any but I heard the French toast was amazing. The salad was highlighted by parsnip chips. We love this restaurant! This location specifically has a cute tunnel entrance that leads to a garden space. Make sure you make reservation ahead of time as their dinner time slots get filled up quickly. Street parking is pretty difficult over weekend dinner but not impossible. I LOVED dining at Bacari on 3rd. The space/ambiance is simply gorgeous, the food is spectacular, and the service is 10/10. I went on Valentine's Day for dinner and was so impressed. I love trying a variety of foods and their menu is so fantastic for that because the plates are smaller and you're meant to order a few of them. I tried a few a their cocktails, the valentine ones and an espresso martini, and didn't think much of them, but I care more about the food anyway and that was stellar. Some standout favorites of mine were the lamb hummus, wings, and Mac and cheese!! So delicious. Perfect for date night or celebrations. I hear they really shine at brunch too. Service was very attentive, and knowledgable. We ordered 5 plates between two of us - and it was MORE than enough. Even though its tapas style, the portions are quite large and filling. They recommend 2-3 plates per person, I think two is enough. Let's talk food- The burrata and baguette was probably my favorite thing. The pesto, cheese, and tomatoes were SO cold and refreshing, and the baguette was warm. I could eat this all day. The shrimp and calamari lettuce cups were good! They were my least favorite thing, but it was a unique flavor, something different, and I loved the yuzu mayo. The scallops were AMAZING. The creamed corn that accompanied it was delicious, but the scallops were really so tasty and cooked perfectly. The pear and brie pizza was good! I wish it had more brie, but I think that's just because I love brie. Finally, the chipotle cauliflower was really great. The chipotle was so good, the cauliflower was crispy, these were addicting. The chilaquiles with house-made tortilla chips was epic. The service was awesome. Everyone that works here was so friendly and nice, especially the bar staff. The ambiance was super cool. From planning ahead to the night of, their service was nothing short of spectacular. A special shoutout to Leah, our amazing hostess, who welcomed us with such warmth and professionalism. She had the patience of God to be able to handle such at big table and did it with a smile. We have no reservation, but the hostess was so nice to give us a table as long as we can finish by a certain time. Sounds good. After going through a very mysterious brick tunnel, when the door opened we immediately felt the cozy, romantic vibe restaurant. The ambience was very romantic and the restaurant was decorated with sting lights. We were seated by the tree, a tight spot but perfect for staying close to my partner. After reviewing the menu, we decided to order a few items, the menu is tapas style so the portion was small but allowing us to try a few things. We had the scallop, Brussels sprouts, the shawarma tacos and the pork belly. We finished our dinner with the double chocolate cake. It was a wonderful and romantic dinner. Came here on a Monday evening with some girlfriends for a dinner before the holiday break. We made a reservation on OpenTable and were sat immediately. Our server was quick to bring us tap water we requested and had some suggestions for the wine selection. We ended up going with a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand for the table. For food, we ordered two pizzas (smoked mushroom, Asian pear and Brie), stuffed mushrooms, burrata caprese, little gem salad, beef cheek, pork belly, scallops, and sea bass. The kitchen paced out our food very nicely. It didn't feel like we were ever waiting to eat or rushed. The two pizzas were lovely. If you like both savory and sweet pizzas, I would recommend either. However, my friend doesn't really like sweet so the Asian pear and brie is isn't something she wants to order again. I thought it paired very nicely together - a little caramelized with the char from cooking and gooey texture with the mild flavor from the brie. The smoked mushroom pizza was also very good. A stronger flavor with the baked mushrooms and sharp tang of the goat cheese. Both had a nice thin crust. The mushrooms were stuffed with a mixture of pesto and cheese. The mushrooms were very succulent in texture but mild in taste, which played well with the strong taste of the stuffing. The burrata caprese was as to be expected. Came with the same pesto as the stuffed mushrooms, along with some heirloom cherry tomatoes that gave a fresh pop of acid to match the creaminess of the burrata. The little gem salad was like a mini Cobb salad. The dressing to lettuce ratio was wonderful. Enough of the toppings and dressing to go with each bite but not enough to drench the leaves and make it soggy. I really enjoyed the cut of beef cheek, which came with radishes and goat cheese polenta. The meat was stewed or slow cooked to have a short rib kind of texture, but still had some pieces of tendon that I enjoyed. The polenta was especially tasty, with a kick from what I'm assuming is the Aleppo oil. The pork belly was braised in a sweet glaze and came paired with cilantro. It wasn't the most tender pork belly I've had but the flavor was there and it was quite delicious. The only thing was that a tiny part of the meat was a little tough and stringy. But overall very tasty. Lastly, the seafood dishes were only okay. The texture of both the sea bass and scallops were a bit rubbery, clearly from frozen. What saved it were the sauces and other ingredients in the dishes. The shishito peppers and corn in the sea bass gave a mild heat and sweetness to the dish. The carrot parsnip purée gave the scallops more textural variety along with the beet chips. Our overall experience was very pleasant and the food was pretty good - some dishes were clearly better quality than others. I would come back to try the ones I didn't get a chance to taste this time to see what I missed or what I can recommend to friends who want to visit this restaurant. I love the ambience. It was dimly lit and decorated with Mediterranean inspired decor. It is a little loud inside and I'm not sure about the music choice, but I would tell someone to come check it out for the food and vibes. read more
