4 stars for a nice Atlanta restaurant. When it comes to Bacchanalia, I heard a pretty wide range of opinions. Some have told me that it is wildly overrated, while others have told me that it is now underrated. I wasn't sure who to believe about this Star Provisions-owned venue located over on Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard, so I decided to book myself a table early one evening to find out. I arrived at the venue, which is split between a store on the left when looking from the parking lot and the restaurant with a nice setup and pretty lighting on the right, and went inside to check in. I was invited to take a look at the store for a few minutes while my table was prepared. I came back over after looking around for a couple minutes and was led to my table. My server, who was a relatively young guy, did a very good job of providing solid service and answering questions. Like with some other nice Atlanta venues, Bacchanalia utilized various staff members to do things like bring out each menu item and even just be the bread guy (I really liked the bread guy). Aside from one issue that I'll discuss below, the service was overall what I would expect from a restaurant listed as a top 10 Atlanta spot in various lists. The way it works here is you pay something like $115 dollars for a 4 course tasting menu. While that price for such few items alone could be a bit concerning, they also bring you little tasters in-between each course to give you a full meal experience. While I wasn't super full at the end of the meal, I had plenty to eat and walked away feeling like I received my money's worth. The first thing I started off with was actually a holiday drink - their version of egg nog. I actually got the wine pairing to go with the tasting course (which is actually specific wines to specific selections, which is kind of nice). While the wines were fine, the egg nog was actually a really good drink to start off the meal. My first items were (off menu) a few little little items (I think a radish was one of them) covered in an interesting butter. They were a little bland tasting, but I appreciated the effort and creativity. The first on menu item (which I ordered due to some pretty extensive Yelp research) was the crab fritter. The fritter was probably one of my favorite food items of the night as it came with citrus and avocado to make for a really fun food item. When it came to the next items, it actually took a little while for anything to arrive. A large party came in and seemed to take up everyone's attention (aside from the awesome bread guy). I get that big parties are important and profitable, but going about 30 minutes from first course to second course with zero waiter interaction was pretty annoying. My second items that came out were (off menu) a moderately spice carrot dish with pumpkin seeds on top that was fun and (on menu) the guinea hen. In terms of the hen, the foie gras and endive that came along with it were great ideas that made for a really tasty and interesting dish. The third items I had come out were (on menu) the Beecher's Flagship, which is a cheese dish that was suggested by the waiter. While I thought it was a little weird and unnecessary to have the main entre come out before the cheese/salad type of dish, it did work ok and the cheese dish was fairly tasty. The off menu dish that came out after it was some hot chocolate that was by far my favorite drink of the night and some of the best hot chocolate I've had in a while. I would drink a tall glass of that anytime. My fourth and final dish that came out was the profiterole. I'm a pretty big fan of getting these at French restaurants, so I wanted to see how they would do. While the item generally tasted alright, the move to use maple instead of chocolate seemed like a bit of a misfire to me. A bold choice, but one that I don't think worked. It wasn't bad, but just not what I wanted to end my meal. Overall, Bacchanalia provided me with a good but not quite great restaurant experience. The pretty venue, solid service, and good food I think is enough to make this place actually pretty properly rated and at least worth checking out. Plus, they have a bar (why do nice venues not advertise this?), so that it another avenue to check this place out as well. read more

I dined here with my family for my mom's birthday and thought it was below average. The ambiance was very nice along with friendly staff. The sommelier knew his wine and recommended us a bottle of white wine for dinner. My dad enjoyed his vodka martini with blue cheese olives as well. For the food, I wasn't that excited about the options of the courses and the overall food experience was whatever. The course price was too high for what came out and the ingredients. I had a lot of friends that asked me how my experience was and in all honestly it was not worth the money and drive down here. You're not missing out on anything by not dining here. read more

Great first time at Bacchanalia! For many many years I've been told the experience here is a must in Atlanta and my husband and I finally decided to come here to celebrate our 10 year dating anniversary. Bacchanalia only offers a prix fixe menu consisting of a 4-courses. Wine pairings are optional for an additional cost. The dinner started with a 3 piece amuse- bouche which was truly delicious. Next, we experienced the fresh bread delivery? I've never seen this before where there is a staff member with a basket of fresh bread dedicated to servicing the tables. Very cool! From there our 4 courses began arriving. Our first course was probably our favorite! The Crab Cake and the Lobster Roll were so so so good! Highly recommend both of these options. The second course was a bit of a disappointment. I ordered the Salmon which was fine- it was cooked perfectly but there wasn't anything unique or special about the flavors here. My husband ordered the duck and unfortunately we had to send it back. We never send food back (emphasis on *never*) but the duck was inedible. I thought my husband was being dramatic but when I tried it it was all skin, incredibly chewy, and after chewing it for maybe 2 minutes I still had a hard time swallowing. I'm not sure why Bacchanalia would think eating a piece of duck like that would be possible or enjoyable but it was not. Learn from us- avoid the duck. The rest of the courses were decent. Salads and desserts were delicious, unique, and were presented beautifully! Since we were celebrating an anniversary they brought us a complimentary small cake with a candle. Very thoughtful on their part. At the end I ordered some coffee which was the second disappointment of the evening. It was brought out in a french press which was nice. Then I realized the coffee tasted far too strong to be made in a french press and had coffee was murky with coffee grounds (not good filtration). So, I took a look at the coffee grounds in the press and they were far too small! It looked like coffee grounds for an espresso! If this place knew anything about making coffee they would know that coffee grounds need to be large for a french press. I was honestly shocked that a top tier restaurant would make a mistake like this. Overall, I now understand the fascination over the experience at Bacchanalia. The service is like none other. However, there was basic errors (objectively) and for that I deduct 1 star for my review. read more

I came here expecting to give it five stars, which I suppose I should not do before an experience! However, Bacchanalia essentially met my high expectations. I came with a group of about 20 people for a corporate event, and we got to sit in a separate little dining area at a long table which was nice. We commented that the lighting only reaches about 2/3 of the table, so a few of us were left in the dark - but like, too dark to be in the "romantic" or "fancy" sense. I can say that the service was exquisite although I wish we could have had more individual choices for wine or cocktails. For the group, we just did a couple bottles of wine which were tasty but considering the price of everything, it would be nice to choose 1-2 drinks versus many refills of the same wine. Food was wonderful and I left very full - each course is small but there are many and also things interspersed, including a tasty bread basket. My favorite was the summerland farm egg with a runny yolk and unique spices as my starter. I think I will never quite feel comfortable at places this upscale, but I did really enjoy the food, service, and overall dining experience. read more

I had high expectations for this place but was underwhelmed. I will start with the positives then move on to the negatives. Positives (+) Because of its locations, there is ample parking and none of the valet hassle surrounding restaurants in tight lots around Atlanta. I also appreciated the architecture and interior design of the restaurant.But no one is here for parking and ambiance, so let's talk food. Food (+) I started with the Nantucket Bay Scallop and we were off to a great start! Very well seasoned and cooked, and the sauce it was paired with was delicious. Usually, scallop portions are quite small but I was not only surprised but appreciative of the amount of scallops on my plate. It was followed by the Pasture Raised Lamb, cooked medium and yet another great selection. I will also mention that others in my party got the Crab Fritter (we will get back to that) for the first course and the Dry Aged New York Strip for their second course and I heard great things about these selections, too. As mentioned, we were off to a great start but the rest of the meal fell flat. Negatives (-) They give you small snacks in between portions to fill in the gap between courses but all of these are a miss. An assortment of bread that has more misses than hits, very hard and crunchy (could do without), small bites of cucumber with garnishes, something else I can't remember because it was easily forgettable, etc. All of these snacks leave you with one big question, how long before the next course comes to the table? The answer: FOREVER! The time between courses is immense (this could be because of the holidays but please come prepared with several conversation starters because there is much more talking than eating in the time you spend here. Moving on to the 3rd and 4th course, I chose Cheese and my partner chose Mushroom (I tasted my meals and theirs) and they were both okay. Nothing special. I could probably get a better selection of cheese at Kroger and the mushroom was overpowered by shallot and tarragon that you might forget there is mushroom on the plate. NOTE: This course also seemed a bit out of place, I would rather have the 3rd course before the 2nd course and after I finished my lamb go straight into 4th/dessert course, but that's neither here nor there. What was there, was an okay dessert. I had Pecan and my partner had Apple. Both were just okay. Nothing to rave about, nothing to remember. The big question: would I recommend? NO. Only because the highlights of the night didn't overrule the low points. Yes, I loved the scallop and the lamb but the amount of food I didn't care for doesn't make it worth the wait. If I wait 20 to 30 mins between courses I want to be blown away but instead, I continued to think about places I could've gotten a bigger portion of lamb. And to not leave anyone hanging, Bacchanalia is a sister company to W. H. Stiles Fish Camp in Ponce City Market and the same Crab Fritters are on the menu. If you enjoy steak, lamb and scallop, there are better options without all the fluff in between. Proceed with caution. read more

Our primary server was polite in his words, but not warm, friendly, or welcoming. The other staff that we encountered were very friendly and made us feel welcome. My date was vegan (noted this when reservation was made and upon arrival) and it was her birthday. We were grateful for the special cupcake with candle that was brought out for her - but upon inquiring further, it was not a vegan cupcake... our server tried to play it off like the cupcake was for me. That was actually infuriating, as it wasn't my birthday and it all really didn't make sense. We would've appreciated an apology for her being sent out a non-vegan product, at the end of her fully vegan 4+ course meal - not a lame excuse/lie. Otherwise, the food was decent. I truly enjoyed the crab fritter (enjoyed it so much I didn't get a picture) and the salmon dishes, but the other dishes left a bit to be desired; they also may have been better received had this meal not been at the price point it was. The majority of the vegan dishes that came out were lacking in flavor, although the tomato dish was the shining star - I think that's because that's usually on the menu, as opposed to the other dishes that they had to "make" vegan. read more

I thought this place was really great. It is very expensive, but the way that the food was presented and the service was truly amazing. My friends and I planned to have a large party, but they were initially unable to accommodate a party of 14 so we split into tables with staggered start times. However upon arrival the manager was able to pull some strings for us and we ended up getting the back section for our whole party to be able to sit together, which made the experience great from the get go. I believe the menu is seasonal. Everything I had was really great. I thought my cheese course was a bit heavy but everything else was great. I thought the crab fritter was one of the best things I've ever tasted in my life. The duck was my second favorite. And the desserts were amazing as well. Definitely worth the experience, but make sure you're saving up for it! read more

Let me begin by saying the service was impeccable and the ambiance is lovely. The food however, fell short. They offer a four course tasting menu where you select one dish from each category. We started with the sweet breads and crab fritter. Both were very good, the crab was the most flavorful dish I had that night. However, it went downhill from there. The bread basket they brought out was good, but the pretzel roll was cold and a bit hard, and the other bread was good, but nothing unique. The second course was lamb and the lobster. My boyfriend liked the lobster, but the lamb was bland. It was cooked well, but did not have much flavor to it, nor did the broccolini it came with. The third course was the cheese course. We tried the cucumber and tomato with yogurt and the goat cheese. Both were good, but again, not unlike dishes we have had previously and nothing really stood out. The dessert course was the squash profiterole and apple tart. The profiterole was pretty good (bit too sweet for me) and the apple tart was a bit odd, it was a baked apple on top of a pastry. The vanilla cake they brought out to celebrate the birthday was totally devoid of flavor and a bit dry. It was probably the worst thing we ate that night. They brought out other tastings from the chef such as a parmesan bread bite, pickled cucumber, smoked cod on top of a cake, a side of pickled carrots, onion and celery, a side of sauteed kale, chai (which was cold) with a biscuit and lemon madelines, raspberry shortbread cookies and chocolate with pistachios and currants. It was really nice to get all these "extra" dishes from the chef. For the price, the food simply does not live up to it. There are other restaurants in Atlanta for similar prices with better food. That being said, the service was some of the best we experienced, just unfortunate the food did not match it. read more

I booked a splurge dinner here for myself and Sarah a few months ago (we're going to the Van Gogh immersive exhibit tomorrow morning) and I thought it'd be a fun and special way to get the party started, and boy was I RIGHT. The Bacchanalia experience starts in the parking lot, pulling into a lot shared by another Star Provisions locale. We had a 7:00 reservation and were seated immediately! We knew what we were ordering from the get-go (ya boy does his research ok ok!), and both did the pre fixe menu, oysters, and cocktails. What they DON'T tell you online is that the chef treats that get brought out to you are the best surprise and delights you could ever ask for. Swiss chard here, some tomato purée there, a little strawberry jasmine drink before dessert, the list goes on! Every element of our 2 or so hour experience felt curated, intimate, and undoubtedly worth every penny. The service was immaculate, and being youngsters in the fancy eating world, we felt like royalty! I almost feel a responsibility to ensure my friends and family know about this place for special events, because Bacchanalia turned a regular ol Thursday for us into one of the best dining experiences of my life! I used to come here a lot back in 2020 and it was one of the best restaurants in Atlanta I had ever been to. I came here again with a few guests on Dec 17th 2021 and I was very disappointed. Not with the food but with the service. Particularly with the obnoxious wine connoisseur. He brought the book of selections for the wine and did not bother to show me the book but immediately gave it to the eldest person in the group who had never been to the restaurant and was not going to be picking up the tab. I had already been there in person to give my card to the front desk with the percentage of tip discussed ahead of time so no one needed to fight to pay for the tab at the table after our meal was over. This person who was going over the wine list kept on picking more expensive wines when the gentleman in my dinner party was trying to select modest pricing since he felt awkward being handed the book as my dinner guest. This wine connoisseur made the entire dinner feel nauseating. It was definitely not worth the over $1000 tab that night. It is a real shame because the old Bacchanalia would have been a great experience for my guests. read more

I have come three times in the past few years, and despite there being grave errors in two of my meals, I still will give this place 5 stars. The first error was an overly grainy chocolate sauce in a dessert that never should have been served and was nearly inedible. Alas, the remainder of the meal was stellar. The second error was a grapefruit soufflé that was overly sugary and gritty. As you can see, there appears to be a theme centered on overly gritty desserts. But yet again, the remainder of the meal was stellar, including a lobster dish that easily belongs in the top 5 dishes I have had in my entire life (a list that includes several dishes from Michelin three star restaurants in New York, Paris, and Kyoto). As they say, the third time's the charm. Everything was just right this last time, and the dessert finally matched the quality of the remainder of the meal. Good food and experience, but not great as it should have been at the price point. Food: 2 stars My date notified the restaurant I am vegan upon making the reservation. I reminded the waiter of this, and he told me the courses the chef would likely make for me. I did not have to / get to choose since there was only one option for each course -- chef's choice. First course was what they called a porridge, but was a grain (pretty sure farro) with oyster mushrooms, and crispy onions on top. Overall, the flavor was decent -- it was just lacking. It was okay, but I expected to enjoy it. The second course was a vegetable "shawarma" with a few chickpeas. The sauce would have been good if it had something to balance the bitterness. I love vinegar personally, and it was even too much for me. The star of this dish was the beet! I don't know how they did it, but it was meaty and tasted almost like a jam. So good! But not enough on its own to make this one enjoyable. The third course was a tomato dish. Very fresh and light. Nothing spectacular, but the tomatoes themselves were very delicious. Dessert was a vegan chocolate cake with walnuts and dried cranberries. It was good -- the pieces of cake seemed like they were the crust -- crispy and almost burnt. I would have preferred softer. The flavor was nice. Several other small bites were brought to us as complimentary items. All nice, but unfortunately again nothing exciting. They thoughtfully brought me a birthday dessert (carrot cake), as my girlfriend noted it was my birthday in the reservation. When our waiter came back to our table I asked if it were vegan and he said no, they were bringing a different vegan birthday dessert for me and this one was for the table to enjoy. Why would you bring a birthday dessert to someone who cannot eat it? Portion sizes were very large considering all the courses. I definitely left full! Service: 3 stars Mixed reviews here. The hostess had an attitude from the time we called to say we were running late. Mind you, when we arrived and for the remainder of the evening the restaurant was never full and there was plenty of open seating. She also mentioned us being late when we arrived. Our waiter for the evening was polite in everything he said to us, but had an arrogant tone and demeanor the entire evening -- almost as if he felt he was too good to be serving us or we were not good enough to be eating at this restaurant. When we would thank him for bringing us things, his responses sounded sarcastic and pompous. The thought crossed my mind that he may not have liked the fact that two females were clearly on a date together, but who knows his motivation for acting the way he did? Additionally, he never refilled our water glasses -- not once in the 3 hours we were dining there. Only other staff did after they were empty each time for a while. This is not something I would normally complain about, but I expect great service at a restaurant in this price point -- not to have to wait and even ask for more water. All other staff were very pleasant and kind to us. Ambiance: 4 stars Cute setup -- cozy / medium sized space. Nice, clean decor. Beautiful bar area. Very much liked the feel of the restaurant. A lot of people will tell you this is the best restaurant in Atlanta, and it is certainly a great place to dine. The place was made a little more famous but the 2017 movie Baby Driver when "Baby" played by Ansel Elgort is offers to take his girlfriend to Bacchanalia for dinner exclaiming that's "it's the finest wine'ing and dining in all of Atlanta"! It's definitely a place you should try, but I've heard mixed reviews. I don't think this is a reflection on the restaurant as much as widely varying expectations on the part of diners. My recommendation, try and after work drink and an appetizer at the bar one evening and get a feel for the place, see if it's for you before you drop a few hundred on dinner...;). NICE PRIX FIXE MEAL WITH DECENT SERVICE! i made a reservation at bacchanalia for a Christmas present and it was absolutely lovely. the ambiance is pretty formal with a farmhouse/industrial vibe. it wasn't too crowded when we arrived for our 6:30 reservation and we were seated immediately (reservations are required). food - 5/5 the food was outstanding. i had such a tough time choosing between dishes to get from each course since so many of them caught my eye. the menu changes regularly, but some items are pretty permanent. we got the oysters to start and they were wonderful! they said that they get a shipment every day. for my meal i got the crab fritter, marine lobster, Pierre robert, and chocolate. the crab fritter and marine lobster were outstanding. the seafood was so fresh and beautifully done. i wasn't a big fan or the pierre robert, i thought it was a little one dimensional and flat. the chocolate was good, but needed more ice cream in my opinion (probably wouldn't get it again). my mom got the steak tartar, pasture raised lamb, chevre, and pecan. however, she originally ordered the souffle, but right before we were supposed to get the fourth course they said that they could not serve the souffle due to recipes issues. that was a big disappointment, especially since they notified us on such late notice. doesn't a souffle take a while, so wouldn't they have known earlier that they couldn't serve it? anyways she opted for the pecan instead and it was really good! i would get that over the chocolate. her other dishes were fabulous, the lamb was so tender and perfectly cooked. the chevre was vibrant (i liked it more than the pierre robert). service - 4/5 the service was an area that was lacking for me, especially since it's such an expensive meal. for the most part, the waiters were really helpful, but a couple could have been a bit better. they frequently didn't refill the water glasses which was a bummer. and i am only making these harsher comments because it is one of the fancier restaurants in Atlanta. additionally, i tried taking photos and used a light and the manager came over to me and said i couldnt. im guessing the light was bothersome to the guests, which is totally understandable, but i was disappointed that i couldn't take pictures. other comments - parking: plenty of parking, big parking lot - extra food: the chef provides complimentary dishes in between some meals. it's a nice addition, but none of them were spectacular. read more

I was so excited to come back here after so many years. I love getting dressed up and having a good meal experience, but this one was disappointing. Bacchanalia's is a well known restaurant down in Atlanta, and known for their exquisite American cuisine, high end gourmet food. They offer a prix fix menu consisting of four plates, including dessert. When we walked in, everyone was congregated at the bar, so being the social drinker that I am, I tried the Mary Pickford, a pineapple, white rum concoction with my all time favorite gourmet cherries in it. YUM! Seriously this cocktail was amazing, so good I had two, which is a rare treat because my boyfriend doesn't drink so I really haven't been drinking either. We all sat down in a private area, because we were a large party. You basically scan the QR code, and check out the menu. I chose the crab fritter, which I remembered being amazing, the halibut for course two, the red cow parmigiano, and the spicy pistachio souffle for dessert. We also ordered the fruts de mer, which consisted of oysters, hamachi, octopus, and shrimp among others. The crab fritter was so disappointing. I don't know how else to explain this, but the crab was not fresh tasting, and it just didn't taste like how I remembered it. The halibut was also a disappointment, and the brussel sprouts would have been better served roasted, which packs more punch. The halibut was really bland. I think the only saving grace for it was this onion broth that was placed on the table. The red cow parm was decent, but the date cake was lacking in taste. The parm was good, it was fresh, but it was just a few slivers of parmesan, not super exciting. They also served some bread, and while the butter was on point, and super soft, the two pieces of pretzel roll I had were super hard, but I was hungry. The worst was the dessert. I am a huge sweets lover, and I hardly ever pass up dessert even if it isn't that good, but this dessert was awful. First of all, there was no spice whatsoever, and one of the women there agreed with me. The creme anglaise was runny and not as rich or robust in flavor, and the souffle just tasted "off". I had two bites and passed. I am really disappointed in such a top notch well established restaurant serving such a sub par meal. For our 1st wedding anniversary last week, the hubs and I dined here. We've heard great things about this place, and we weren't sure if it was just hype related. But boy oh boy was it on point: service, food, and atmosphere. This is a four-course dinner where you're able to choose items for each course. If you're thinking you might not be full after leaving, you'd be surprised. Though I heard they used to provide 6 courses, they now have only 4. Instead, they have the breadbasket and other surprises from the kitchen as fillers in-between the courses. We had some miniature cheesy bread before we got started. Some time later in the course, there was a 3 item creation. And thereafter, there was a chocolate shake with cream. Course 1: Maine lobster & foie gras torchon. The sizable Maine lobster was really good as it sat in a broth (turmeric & lime?). The shiitake mushroom was a nice compliment in the broth so you aren't just eating lobster, though only lobster doesn't necessarily mean a bad thing. :) The foie gras torchon was amazing. The hubs choose right as it was like butter in your mouth. It was rich and pretty tasteful. Save some of your bread from the breadbasket bc what they provide isn't insanely enough. The portion was surprisingly more than what we expected, never having had this before. Course 2: Scallop & dry aged brass town strip. Omg. The scallops were amazing as it was seared on the outside and juicy on the inside. There were about 3 to 4 pretty sizable pieces that accompanied Jerusalem artichokes. I definitely enjoyed the scallops and potato pieces it was dispersed amongst. The hubs' pick of the dry aged brass town strip was good, but I don't have a pallet for beef like that so the dry aged was subtle. The vidalia onion and potatoes were somewhat ordinary, but it went well with the beef. Course 3: Cheese & red cow parmigiano. The 5 cheese selection was interesting as a gal comes over with 12 various cheeses to choose from. I took the dealer's choice but insisted on getting 2 from the sheep's milk category. The other categories are as follows: French, goat's milk, and blue cheese. In addition to these 5 cheeses, you'll get a plate of various delectables to eat the cheese with. His red cow parmigiano was interesting. It had hedgehog mushrooms and dates... And I'm sure he gave me some mushrooms, but it wasn't oddly out of place as 1st impressions seem to dictate. His dish had cow parmigiano which would sort have satisfied my cheese craving. I think this pick is more interesting than my 5 cheese plate (even though mine was still good). Course 4: Baked Alaska & pear. The baked Alaska was interesting: both taste and presentation. It's basically a beehive looking mound of toasted marshmallows with a fennel seed cake surprise at the bottom. Throughout the marshmallow, there was something green that looked and tasted like ice cream? The miniature kumquat provided great texture and flavor to this interesting creation. A must try! The hubs' pear was also something others talked about. I honestly found it to be okay. The almond panna cotta was rather interesting. The florentine was caramelized so it provided a nice crunch. I'm not a fan of pears so that was an initial turn off, but, the creation wasn't bad. However, this is not the end as they have a final surprise: coconut and (warm) lemony cookie. Yeah. This stuffed me to the max. Psst. I heard the cheese selection comes from Star Provisions. And another psst... The potato bread was amazing. There's also the sour dough, French baguette, and pretzel bread. The potato bread was really flavorful so it's a must try. The restrooms are located near the kitchen; it's on the side with the reception. It's behind the huge reflective mirror wall. Parking is pretty plentiful as Star Provisions and Bacchanalia share their own parking lot. Everything we choose was amazing. The extra kitchen surprises were superb as well. Hashtag worth it! First things first - for the price, it's actually a lot of food. They give you so many compliments from the chef that you get more than what the menu offers. Also, the table bread... Jesus take the wheel. I think I ate like 8 of those. First course: - Lobster was freaking delicious. The bread was buttery and was cooked right amount of crispiness. - summerland farm egg, Which I think is a good comparison to the one from Miller union. But I'd say bacchanalia does it better. Husband thought it was a bit too sweet but I disagree. Second course: - duck was really tough. I think this was a miss. We got a lot of gristle on this... we didn't like this one. But we believe this is anomaly. - NY strip was cooked perfectly. Often times you order "medium rare", and I get "medium" but they did this as stated: medium rare with awesome flavor. One of the best steaks I've had. Third course: - Pierre Robert was like a sweet cheesy yogurt consistency with croutons. It was on the sweet side. It was great. - red cow parm came with a lot of parm. Like a lot, a bit too much. I mean you don't have to finish it but I did because my parents trained me to finish my food. Fourth course: - soufflé was out of this world. So light, airy, adequately sweet, and the ice cream was to die for. Freaking amazing. - chocolate... s'mores kind of a thing? Basically like a lightly cooked brownie with ice cream, cooks crumbs, and toasted marshmallow. I'm not a brownie fan so it was aiight for me but my husband adored this dessert. So excited to dine at Bacchanalia, one of Atlanta's premier farm-to-table restaurants. Twenty-six years of greatness, now in its third location. The new location has that industrial feel I see in many new restaurants, but not of this caliber. The location seemed certainly off the beaten path for this out of towner. Given my need to catch a flight that evening, our server did a marvelous job of expediting our courses, with the assistance of the chef. First Course: Crab Fritter Second Course: Jamison Lamb Third Course: Red Cow Parmigiano Fourth Course: Chocolate Souffle Every course was exceptionally prepared, plated and served. The only thing I missed was the time to deeply savior every bite. This might be a special occasion restaurant for some, but it was amazingly perfect for a business meal. I went with my long-time college friend to experience my first Michelin! The decor, lighting, and service (very attentive and friendly) were exactly what I had envisioned when I think of Michelin restaurants. Leftovers were packed for us, and we were offered fresh loaves of bread from the adjoining bakery (Star Provisions) on our way out. Overall, I'm glad that I experienced my first Michelin here! We selected and shared different items for each course to try more of the menu. We chose the foie gras and crab fritters as appetizers (1st course). Although we loved both, our server said that the crab fritter was one of the most popular appetizers, and that was definitely one of our favorites from the night. We chose the lamb and duck (both of the most popular entrees) for the 2nd course. The lamb was tender and one of my favorites; however, the duck disappointed both of us because it was dry. For the third course, my friend chose the selection of cheese, and we liked the sheep cheese. Lastly, we chose baba and chocolate for the last course. I didn't try the chocolate because I was full, but I disliked the baba personally because it was completely soaked in bourbon that overwhelmed any other flavors. To be honest, I don't know where to start with this place. If you have a special date, this will be a place to keep in mind to check out or go to. I didn't label the food because to be honest, you're probably going to get something different. It's hard to believe anyone at their word, but for me it was worth every penny. For this review, I'm going to explain the experience because the food was out of the world. Now, I think my review will be biased, because this will be the place that will live forever in my mind. Just getting married earlier before coming here, I was still high on emotions and marrying my wife. The day was perfect for us, so yeah, Bacchanalia topped it off for us. What's nice about this place is that there's limited options. You're not trying to scramble and decide what you want. The menu is small enough that once you see what the restaurant is offering, you're going to be quick to pick your decision...or well I think you'll be quick. The food was amazing. Every course was something new and something exciting. I had my share of sweet and also savory dishes. In my opinion, there's not really any losers in the right dish. It's whatever that catches your eyes. The service was exactly what you thought it would be for a fine dining restaurant. The servers were extremely attentive as well as knowledgeable in that night's dishes. I would say it's one of the best and it wasn't unexpected. If you have any question, you should have no fear and the server would probably answer your question right there on the spot. Leaving the restaurant, the restaurant gave us a choice of a loaf of bread. I chose wrong and should have just followed what my wife said...I guess it's a newlywed lesson. I can't say enough that if you're a foodie and you want to have a unique rustic type of experience in fine dining, this should definitely be a place to be in consideration to try out. Years ago, my hubby and I made a list (after lots of research) of the "Best Restaurants in Atlanta" that we wanted to visit and Bacchanalia kept coming up over and over again - so we were thrilled to finally take the time to visit for dinner service. Definitely plan to make a reservation to eat here, they do have a generous bar space but it fills up quickly - there is very little room for walk-ins so you'll want a rezy (and make it several weeks in advance or else you'll end up eating at 5pm or 9pm) Parking - they did not have valet and had plenty of self-service parking. Location - they're tucked away behind Star Provisions on Ellsworth Industrial (you'll feel like you're lost or passed it, but it's literally on the back side of SP) Ambiance - LOVELY place! The decor, lighting, music, mood, etc was all exactly how I expected. They have a very generous bar space and great table seating. It was exactly the kind of ambiance you would expect for the price! Service - wonderful service, the server was attentive in the correct amounts and allowed you plenty of time to enjoy your dish without making you feel rushed. They were great to answer all of your questions about the menu and the sommelier was great as well. They allow you to bring your own wine bottle for a corking fee, I read online the corking fee was $25 which must have been very old because it was $50! That's definitely the highest corking fee I've ever experienced. They have a very extensive beverage list as well. Now on to the food....the food was good, however it always felt like it was missing a little something. In general it was good, but not excellent (which for $110 pp you expect excellence). My favorite dish was either the Crab Fritter or the NY Strip. For the bread service, go with the sourdough or the baguette. The lobster was lack luster, I had a few pieces that were a little fishy and I felt like it lacked the natural sweetness that lobster should have. The cheesecake is a nice finisher as well. In general I just felt like the food was missing a little something (seasoning, salt, etc), it was good but there was not much that absolutely knocked my socks off. read more

Dined here for a special occasion. The restaurant is clean, industrial modern and calm. We were greeted by a friendly host and were provided attentive service throughout the night. Even as it grew busier, the restaurant was never too loud or crowded. The beverage journal left me desiring for more cocktail options. I chose the apple brandy concoction first and then the Japanese whisky/sake libation afterwards. Neither left an impression and I was a bit disappointed given the caliber of the restaurant. The pre fixe menu offers 4 courses. There are countless options and combinations. Unfortunately I did not enjoy my 1st course. I blame myself for being adventurous and choosing something unconventional. The duck entrée was decent, but I wish the skin were more crispy. The cheese plate and apple tarte tatin dessert were both delicious and excellent. Overall, given the reputation and price point, I was expecting more. Anticipate spending 150.00 pp with drinks I would recommend the experience once. read more

IMPECCABLE is the word to describe Bacchanalia. I was hesitant initially bc this was the first indoor dining experience since COVID but they did such a fine job to make sure we felt safe. We went on a Saturday's evening & there weren't many people & the tables were spaced out. We each got our own rolled-up silverware's w/ all the weapons we would need for this food battle. LOL. The service was amazing as always!! Nice presentation for the foods & it tasted great of course! OMG the seared foie gras just melt in my mouth... sooo delicious! We ordered a bottle of Elyse Cabernet Sauvignon & it paired really well w/ all the foods!!! This was my first Michelin star experience. I made reservation a few weeks in advance. It looked like an industrial building from the outside. We got seated immediately. I brought my whole family including 2 children under 10 years old. Service was excellent. I tried 2 different cocktails and both were good. Food was very good, but portion was kinda small. There were 4 main courses. Third course was cheese and last was dessert. Children paid the same price as adults. So, it's not worth bringing children in my opinion. While by no means a terrible experience, I couldn't help but be disappointed. We came here expecting to be blown away but left feeling that we got robbed of our money. Let's start with the positive. The service is excellent. The staff are very friendly and very attentive. We had a late reservation on a Tuesday and when we left they gave us an entire loaf of sourdough bread they had leftover. The place also has a cool vibe and nice lighting. There's plenty of parking as well. The bread. Love that they have a bread service. Wish the bread was better. The baguette was stale. The onion bread was good. The pretzel bread could was average. The appetizers: we got the crab fritter and the hamachi. The crab fritter itself was quite good; a decent portion, and not too heavy with the batter but there was a little too much fish sauce/vinegar in my opinion. The yellowtail had potential but i felt that it wasn't marinated well enough and lacked some flavor of the sauce it was in. But still quite good. Second course: the pasta and the lobster. The pasta agnolotti is delicious. No complaints at all. Good flavor and good portion. Likewise we were pleasantly surprised at the generosity of the lobster portion for the lobster dish. Downside was that pieces of lobster were still frozen inside. The accompanying sides of the lobster with the corn also felt very bland and thrown together. The chorizo in the dish was the sole contributing flavor. Third course: the least favorite part of the course. We got the triple creme and the Parmesan. I love cheeses and i love triple cremes but something was off. I almost think that the cheese was borderline turning. It was pungent but not in a good way in my opinion. The Parmesan was trying to be fancy but was just shaved Parmesan. I felt that this course was useless honestly lol Amuse-Bouches: in between some of the courses they gave you different tasters. The first was a cracker with smoked fish paste. The smoked fish paste was tasty but the cracker was so stale it was embarrassing. There was also a tomato tart which had a lot of potential but the dough was not cooked properly or had not risen in time to give the flakiness that a tomato tart deserves. There was a beet side that i tried a bite of but I'm not a fan of beets at all so i am biased in my dislike. Dessert: the blueberry honey cake and the coffee feuilleutine. I was so excited to try the blueberry honey cake. I was disappointed to find that the blueberries were likely frozen. The "croissant" pieces were reminiscent of a hotel breakfast danish rather than a croissant and the gelato didn't taste like anything. There was so much potential for this cake. It felt like they had just taken the easy way out on the preparation. The coffee dessert was basically a bunch of ice coffee shaved ice and some coffee mousse. Enjoyed the mix of textures a lot but it was a bit too sweet. Unfortunately, fell quite short to my expectations and for the cost. I really wanted to like this restaurant. The presentation, the staff and the wine selection were all wonderful and some of the best parts of the experience, but paying top dollar for a "fine-dining" experience requires top-dollar taste. How are you gonna under-season a steak? It's a steak. It's not hard. Honestly that was the biggest complaint for most of the food. There wasn't enough emphasis on individual flavors playing perfectly with each other. Almost every dish felt like it was missing something or just didn't have enough of what it was presenting. If they were going for "subtlety" they severely undershot. It's unfortunate, but the food gave the impression that the staff was "resting on their laurels" and didn't feel the need to reevaluate why certain dishes just aren't up to par with other fine dining experiences. It's lazy and I can't really recommend this place when I can go to Talat Market and have an unbelievable experience for half the price. read more

We just came back from an evening out. We haven't been to Bacchanalia in many years but have good memories at the other location. We enjoy great food and the experience that comes from a Michelin rated restaurant. The new location is very nice, the interior tasteful and comfortable, not stuffy. This evening, the food was very good. The presentation was beautiful, especially my beet salad with goat yogurt. The turnip dish was also wonderful as was the main course. What fell surprisingly short was the service. It was odd, unfriendly and unwelcoming, almost robotic. It felt as if everyone who came to our table from our server to the other food runners (with the exception of Marcus who had good energy and was gracious) was either told not to interact with guests or were so miserable working there that they couldnt help themselves. My husband and I paid close attention because the service felt cold from the minute we sat down. Not one single person-aside from our main server who sort of greeted us (he seemed fairly new to the job) even gave a "Good Evening, how are you both this evening?" The entire 2 hours we were there! I watched how the staff interacted with other tables and it was the same. It felt as if they were trained very well on how to serve the food and what to say about the food but the most basic training regarding service and interaction was completely forgotten. Really very bizarre. We have felt more welcome and had better service going through a Chick-Fil-a drive through. This is very surprising for a restaurant that is highly regarded. What happened on the service side? Are the servers that miserable or have they just lowered the bar on what they would expect as far as how to create a welcoming atmosphere. This is basic, basic stuff. Everyone who touches your table or interacts with you in any way should be at the very least, saying "Good Evening!" before laying down a fork or serving your food or clearing your dishes. Very disappointing. For the price, this should be a given. Thankfully the food was good but a robotic waitstaff is not a good look. read more
