We've been wanting to try out Bankhead Seafood every since we heard that Killer Mike and TI were purchasing it and updating it, now we finally have. It's in the same exact spot that it always has been, but definitely has had a much needed face-lift, that also includes a small rooftop. Parking is very limited, so I'm not sure what the options are if they are packed. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, around 3pm and the place wasn't too packed, but we got the last available parking spot. When we arrived, we were greeted and the ordering process was explained to us. You select your seat and then order that the counter or the bar. The restaurant is cute and colorful inside. There's probably 8 or so booths for seating and stools at the bar. We ordered whiting basket, hushpuppies and catfish sandwich basket. The fish and the hushpuppies are the stars of everything! Our fish was fried and seasoned perfectly, both my husband's whiting and my catfish on my sandwich. You will not leave hungry! Although it's not cheap, they give you a lot of food! The hushpuppies could've came out the grease a few minutes earlier, but they were still really good! I'm a sucker for a hushpuppies with corn and a little sweetness! My only dislikes were the fries and the cheap ketchup, other than that, everything was really good! We'll definitely be back!! read more

This place really sticks out. I was unsure if I was in the right location but when I saw the building, I knew this venue is special to this neighborhood. There is less than 20 parking spots. The place considers itself an elevated self serve so parking will never be an issue. Since this is an elevated self serve, you can place an order at the counter in the back. You can get full service at the bar but there is a mandatory 20% tip. I see no issue with this. They do ask for additional tip and round up once you pay. They don't force it but they ask. I got the catfish basket. The hushpuppies have peppers and corn like mexican cornbread. The hushpuppies are really good but not worth a trip alone. The catfish was fried to perfection and seasoned good. The fries did not have any salt or seasoning at all which is weird since they are called cajun fries on the menu. They only have bottled water and all draft drinks cost $2 per refill. I got a pineapple lemonade which tasted good and house made. The cup was pretty small for a $5 drink and no refills. I would visit this place 2-3 more times if I lived close. read more

This review is based solely on the takeout that was brought to me, so I'm focusing strictly on the food. I had the Fried Whiting, Mac n Cheese, Coleslaw, and Hushpuppies. The fish was cooked well with a nice crunch, but it lacked seasoning and tasted like a standard store bought fish fry mix. I was hoping for a more distinctive flavor that would make it stand out. The Mac n cheese was good, but not unique. It had a flavor similar to Kraft or Velveeta cheese. The hushpuppies had corn kernels in them, and tasted the most homemade and authentic out of everything I tried. Unfortunately, the coleslaw didn't work for me at all. It had a very bitter and sour taste, and it seemed to be missing the creamy balance I usually expect. It was not good at all. Overall, the food was OK, but other than the hushpuppies, it all tasted like it leaned on pre-made or familiar ingredients rather than a distinct memorable flavor. read more

I was super excited to eat here & a drive across town to treat my boyfriend because he love fried fish sandwiches. The visit started off great, the hush puppies and shrimp were good.. we realized my bf's fish was inedible. The whiting that they served tasted old and refried. As if it had been sitting and then it was recooked. We we asked for new fish, management said no. I guess because my boyfriend ate a piece of bread and a half piece of fish. We had already paid and tipped the nice server however the character of management is why I'd never return. The manager didn't even address us, look at our food or attempt to resolve the issue. Not sure if you can get free water but they had their own branded water for 3 bucks a bottle. We went before the late crowd. Parking is very limited. The food was worth the wait though. Typical fish, no snapper or anything good, just basic nasty catfish, pollock, and Whiting. Breading falls off shrimp, fries are good. Refreshments are high for the small cup they come in and non refillable. Atmosphere is good but when dining in, you must get up to place an order. I cook so I wasn't impressed at all. Salmon Philly, fries and water....pretty good!! The staff was pleasant and polite. The decor was modern and pretty chic. The sandwich roll was nice and soft, complimented the salmon well. The sauce was a little spicy but Im not a fan of anything spicy, so it's probably just my wimpy tastebuds. I did however expect more dressing on the sub, lettuce, mayo, and pickles but it still hit the spot. The crinkle cut fries were nice and crispy but due to the fact that we didn't want the special seasoning they were pretty bland. Iykyk world famous made famous by a shout-out on Goodie Mob Soul Food song back in the day! I used to come here when Mama Helen Harden had this place on lock with the $5.50 fish plate with hush puppies before she passed and the new ownership by Ti and Killer Mike. I used to happily wait in line for 15 - 20 minutes with no complaints.This is my first time visiting the new building on 5-15-2026. They did a great job with the new building and the customer service is top tier. I got the delicious big ass fish sandwich it's huge combo with seasoned fries and the grape koolaid. I got my mom a order to go also she got whiting and shrimp and hush puppies. On our way out of the door some guys were taking a picture with Killer Mike. I waited until they finish and gave Killer Mike a what's up and congratulations on the Granny's and told him that I rocked out at The Tabernacle and One Music Festival with him he dapped me and nephew up. Below is the details: *Crab Claws : the garlic butter was great. Some of the crabs where perfect and soft and most if the crab tasted over cooked and harder the chew and eat. 5/10 *Mac & Cheese : flavorful, and baked perfectly. 10/10 *Fish Sandwich: crunchy, big serving and fresh! They changed their model to an "elevated to go experience" - whatever that means. But the food is served in to go containers. Smh. You have to basically pay 18% to eat in PLUS 5% to order from the bar. We did both so an extra 23% was added to the bill. INSANE! In addition, the menu is now super small with maybe 8 or 9 options. The dirty rice looked like dog food and the macaroni was overly dry. I doubt that neither TI nor Killer Mike is feeding this to their families. This was sad. Real sad. The 23% automatic gratuity made it feel like a robbery. Smh. Def won't ever even think about coming back to this place. read more

Now, Ti and Killer Mike have bought the place. It is an upscale Bankhead Seafood with the fixin's. We sat down inside and ordered 2-piece fried Catfish, 6-piece shrimp, 2 hush puppies, fries and Cole slaw. I could not finish it all. When I tell you they did their thang, they did their thang! My sister in Baltimore put the idea of fish in head this morning while wishing her a Happy Birthday. I had errands to run. All were on the Westside. So I thought I'd give this a try. While I've loved the old place for years. This is not it. I ordered the Bankhead platter with pollock and shrimp. First off the shrimp was definitely not fried long enough and the pollock was fried way to hard. The flavor was there. The cooking was not. The fries were very soggy too. I told my waitress and got a "sorry about that". They only have corona and one other beer. Nice bar setup. I have to say I'll be looking elsewhere for a fish dinner. So $35 later I went to McDonald's for something quick after I left. I will say the staff seemed very nice. read more

Great service, delicious food. I visited this establishment for the first time and had a positive experience. My waitress was very attentive and made sure I had what I needed. The atmosphere is bright and welcoming and the hostess greeted me with a smile. I ordered the shrimp basket which came with shrimp (seasoned well and crispy), hush puppies and fries. I also tried the mac and cheese and green beans and everything was tasty. There is a bar area that is quite large and plenty of open seating. There was music playing but not too loud. Overall I had a pleasant experience and will be back. The parking is not great so be prepared. There is a police officer outside directing traffic but the spaces are pretty tight. The "new" Bankhead Seafood was just OK. I was hoping for more. I do realize that they are probably still in the infancy stage and trying to figure it all out. I went in for lunch and was not sure on if I should seat myself or wait at the host stand since no one was standing there. I asked someone at the bar who told me that someone would seat me. The inside is nice. I imagine that the restaurant becomes a party spot on the weekends. The bartender made delicious cocktails. I ordered a gin gimlet...several times lol. The food was not as good as I hoped for. The fish was fried a little too hard and tasted like Captain D's. I cannot remember the name of the fish used but it was similar to cod. Again, I give grace because I believe they will get the recipes together. The server, however, was top notch. I wish I could remember her name for a shout out. We got the perch (I think), whiting, and shrimp. The best thing were the hush puppies. The fries were good too.
